I've been researching this phone and I really like it so far, but I have a question about the battery.
I've read about the battery lasting something like 9 hours or so.. now my question is that 9 hours while constantly in use?
For example if I leave my house at 3:00 PM with a full charge hang out with my friends, end up at a bar at night, and I maybe talk for 20 minutes, send 5 txt messages and barely mess with the phone, will the phone dying around Midnight?
With that type of light usage it can last a day or even two deopending on how you config. & the radio you use.
The +or- 6-8 hours is with wifi, BT, 3g data usage, gps, etc...
I make it about half the day(5-6 hours), but I've got AgileMobile running all day using 3G connection so I'm assuming I'm running normally. This is greatly improved by switching off 3G(adds another 2-3 hours). I put maybe 15-30 minutes of calls on my phone a day, it's mostly a mobile web browser and instant messenger.
To get through a full day for me I charge the phone in my jeep while driving to / from work, and most days I eat lunch out so I charge it then as well.
Thanks for the replies. I will probably have all data connections turned off, and won't run GPS on days like that.
I really dig this phone, I just got a little worried about the chance that I won't go home after some heavy drinking and won't have a phone to use in the morning...
Also, I just read on a website review from Laptopmag.com that said "We left a fully charged Tilt on over a long weekend, and when we returned, the unit still had three out of four bars of battery life"... What do you think?
Well I think if you upgrade to wm6.1, you should gt alot better battery life.
I was sick (in bed most of the day) yesterday so I took my phone off charge at about 7am in the morning.
I sent some messages, surfed the internet with hsdpa for about 3 hours (and this is in a bad signal area, which means more battery consumption)
then did some wifi (20mins)
and a bluetooth recieve or two.
I just checked the battery level this morning (8am) and I still had 57% left. I was abit surprised because I thought it will have drained by now like it did with wm6. The point is wm6.1 has a lot better battery life. So for maxumum battery life you should upgrade.
Just my 2 cents
Battery life...
Hi I have had the kaiser for not long really... there's a neat program that tells you what is the drain, of the battery...
well if you are not touching it and not doing anything it drains about 6-10ma, so based on that yes, it can last for a looooooooong time, now when you call it goes to 200-400ma, so yes it drains more battery there. ( as you would think it would )
then again you can have the backlight to low, to use less battery, also, turn the screen off when not using it, and change the radio an a lot of hacks.
based on my experience using EDGE, the GPS, the screen, playing a game, sending some mms, and talking, it can really kill your battery in no time.
but you can also well get a car charger ( be carefull with those ) or a better battery, because to be realistic the one that comes default really sucks...
I have seen people talking about a 3000mah battery so that could really drive the phone for a loooooooong time, better think about other issues, like how sucky the camera is... ( maybe with the video drivers we are wating for this will get fixed ), also well, sometimes the performance is not that good, ( also video drivers I think ), besides that, and if you don't mind like I do, to have to wait for a few seconds to get things going on, the phone is a real jewel, if you live life in the fast lane, well maybe that second to open the keyboard will kill you
TC !

which one do u recommend? also where can u find this battery?
thanks
^^
Seidio 1650 battery and the Mugen 1500 batteries seem to be good oem size batteries from I have read. THere is a thread on the Kaiser Accessories board about batteries.......
I had a similar experience with excessive current consumption in standby, likely caused by the GPS though it is off (see Post "TyTN II / Kaiser issue: GPS & battery drain").
Perhaps you should install "BatteryStatus". Make yourself familiar with the battery current display, and try to figure out how much power your device draws.
Another nice test is, switch all units off (phone, WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS, really everything). Make sure no program is running (TaskManager). Leave the fully charged phone alone for 5 hours or so. Recheck the battery capacity whether it dropped more than very few percent. If you do not need GPS frequently, you may simply try a soft reset. If you have interesting results, please be so kind and add them to the abovementioned thread, too.
BusterTyTN
I've had an experience the explains why the Kaiser goes through batteries like it's the grand prix. It may be tied to the reason Apple started the I-Phone as 2G.
I own the kaiser, the Nokia e90 and N7710. On a full charge and normal use (for me that's about 50 calls a day in/out, 20 mins of games, 30 mins of reading rss and other information and 30 misc. minutes of backlight on with limited GPS use and very limited wifi. The Nokia e90 lasts 2/3 days, the N7710 2 days and the Kaiser is at 10/20% in 8 hours. But here I am in small Liberia on business, no 3G and yes there is GPS for those that attribute power consumption to GPS and the result is, unplug at 8am by 5pm I am at 90% power (yes my calls are less etc.) but this is amazing. (Worse - I wasted $42 from ATT on a standby battery prior to departure.
My conclusion, 3G is the battery killer...... I'll like to hear from those in none 3G markets about their consumption because I suspect they were the ones who kept taking about being at 80% and made me feel they were on another planet........
I wonder what Apple users willl say when I-Phones start lasting 4 hours
you have a good battery. My battery is retarded, gotta charge it every single day . After about 1hr and 45 mins of talk time , some lil screwing around with music and software . I am here , at 50% .
WiFi
I believe the 3G might be a battery killer, so does the WiFi. If I turn on my Wifi, my kaiser can last for 3-4 hours only.
makes sense, it's why Apple kept 3G out of the original iPhone. It is a battery sucker for some reason, perhaps poorly designed chip or software, who knows. Although maybe Apple will push some manufacturer to make a decent 3G chip that doesn't kill batteries.
iphone battery sucks big time , even without 3g . My bro got an iphone, he cried all day about his battery. yep, 3g kill the thing. Why get an expensive unlimited data plan when your battery aint last long enough to enjoy it fully.
I'm using T-mobile USA and there is no 3G here.
Just using GPS with Live Search, e-mail checking every 15min. Maybe 15min of web surfing on an Edge network, and otherwise normal use. If I take it off the charger around 10am - it's at around 20% battery life by 2am.
So I get about 16-20 hours out of a full charge with normal use. No 3G.
I thought 3g being a battery killer was pretty obvious.
I can get 2 days out of my phone, in 3g, but I set it to auto-activesync every 30 minutes and maybe an hour or 2 of talk time in that period.

For starters, the iPhone isn't 3G.
Second, tell him to return it since it sounds defective. I own an iPhone that I use daily when I don't want the bulky Tilt on my hip, and I listen to a live stream for about 8 hours and have plenty of battery life left. The battery life can't even be compared to a Tilt. It's superb. Try listening to an RSS feed on the Tilt for more than an hour. You're phone will almost be dead.

nobody say that iphone had 3g, it will.
battery of the tilt is on bad side, but iphone battery is nowhere near superb.(except yours, of course )
its not just my bro some peeps i know say the same thing. yea, should tell em to return.
no hate for iphone here cuz i dont own it, but hey I proudly carry my rss-radio-die-fast tilt all day every day. tell ya what my bulky tilt can use for self defense.
btw my bro planning to sell it soon for the upcoming 3g version.
Well....Its rightly Said 3G gulps d battery ...I m in a NON 3g country right nw (at least for d time being ...they r goin to launch it...and dat will be d real test f d battery)
AND
So does the WIFI ... dats smthing people r nt pointing at...dats also is a battery Guzzller....it eats up mine at d rate f about 20 for 1 hr continuous use on an avg.
On an avg using NON-3g mode, 0.5 hrs Wifi, 2 Hrs Egde, 10 calls, 30 sms
my battery give me about approx 1 dat time...may be bit more.
BUT i think, Seriously using people should go for A HIGh amp battery ....dats GR8 instead f carrying small standby ones.... which will also save d cost!
Regards
Thanks for the reminder, I have known about the 3G battery issues and been meaning to look into how to switch between EDGE and UTMS, looks like this thread outlines it pretty well. Looks like perhaps a few solutions in it.

ok what the hell are u guys doing to get such ****ty battery?
here is my setup..
first start with a good CLEAN rom..
dk's 3.14 w/out voice command.
backlight set to 30%
backlight timeout set to 10secs
keyboard timeout set to 15sec
force edge
direct push activated "as items arrived"
wktask to make sure most apps get closed out.
device sleepmode 1minute
kaiser tweak options.
allow fastsleep during call = yes
all power saving features minus the memory card one, my ringers are stored on memory card..
wm6 dialer..no video. (from my experience the video dialers..aka touch dialers seem to drain battery quicker..call me crazy but i think they do.)
......hmmm cant think of nething else at the moment.. with these settings my battery lasts a good 2-2.5 days
avg 150txts/day
avg 80emails/day
avg 20mins web/day
avg 90mins calls/day
avg 15mins 3g OR wifi/day (mostly for coreplayer's youtube)
now my treo750v will be here tuesday so ima see how these settings compare while running the treo.. getting lil bored of my tilt.
i dont know about u guys but i get a good 2 days with always on bluetooth standard 3g 4 hours of wifi and 115 calls average i also run a 8gb card... make sure your batteries are holding full charges
I get decent battery life out of my Tilt. On T-mobile with no 3G here. I don't do a whole lot of talk time on my phone, so that is a definite factor. Push email running from 8am to 3:30 pm daily. Quite a bit of data usage in general. Don't really use bluetooth or wifi all that much though. At the end of the day I can still have about 85% battery left.
Now if I don't go into airplane mode before I get into the workplace, it can be a different story altogether. I get no signal where I work so it's always searching - which will absolutely destroy my battery.

Here's an idea. Choose which statement you want to make instead of contradicting yourself. That's for my 3G statement.
As far as the rest of your sarcastic follow-up, I own and mod both the iPhone and Tilt. Whether my opinion on which is better means anything to you or another reader, I actually have a "hands-on" experience using both daily. The iPhone is superior in OS, battery life, design, and over-all "phone" use. Get your facts straight about the data plan too. When I purchased the Tilt after having the iPhone on my account first, they switched my 'plan' to a Tilt oriented Unlimited Data (why would you even own a Tilt with anything less) plan, so all that changed was Visual Voice Mail (whuppittydoo), not the $$. If your friends are as educated on the iPhone as yourself I'll take thier opinions on the device and file them under "Former Sidekick Owners" also, and while you're trying to beat off an attacker to "defend" yourself with that dead-battery-brick, maybe I'll stop my 10th hour of podcast listening to see if ya want me to call 911 on my iPhone. lol.
I don't have 3G. I am with the Tmobile USA network and don't use any data unless it is wifi. Is the 3G part of my radio off unless I turn it on, or is it constantly searching for a 3G network? Well disregarding that, I am on my 3rd day with light usage and am at 43% and screen brightness on max brightness.
But i use Edge, i always use Edge, and my battery still gets eaten up.
when i have 3g on my batt dies like crazzi fast. i dont think i can get more than 6 hours out of it. but when i am on edge then the batt would probably go for more then 15 hours on average.
I generally do not turn off my phone at all. It is always running Direct push. Bluetooth is always on. The backlight is set to approximately 50%. The device is set to go to standby after 1 minute. The beam reception is turned off (not sure of the effect since there is no IR. I do not use 3G at all.
I use the phone heavily from around 8am until 10pm and often later. This includes around 2hrs of calls nowdays, 30-60 texts in and out, maybe 40 emails, and an hour of browsing the internet spread throughout the day. I might spend about 30 minutes with calendar adjustments, contact additions, and checking tasks over the course of the day.
The phone will still have 50-60% of the battery remaining at the end of the day. If I use GPS for a little while I can expect to need to charge at the end of the day.
Tilt Battery.
As a Network Engineer I am using my phone constantly. Sometimes you wish people didn't know that you had the ability to always check your email
I unplug mine at 7:30am. I read and reply to 80+ emails, talk for 2-3hours (while typing on laptop), use Opera Mini for 15-30mins, use blutooth for file transfers, use Wifi to test the wireless network, run WIFIFOFUM, and other phone general things. I will be at 15% charge by the time I get home at 6:30. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to to use my USB cable to charge it and I'll be fine all night.
I knew the Tilt have fair to below average battery life before I bought it. It's like buying a Vette or any other V8 car and expecting awesome gas mileage, it's not going to happen.
The Iphones do have a fairly good battery usage time. Just like their Ipods can last forever. They have had lots of R&D time to make it all work.
Some people say I should have bought an Iphone, but I am very happy with my little black brick. It feels sturdy and fits well in my massive bear hands (6'6tall)
Hi i have a diamond with the official Htc Extended Battery Pack .... and the thing give me only juice for 3/4 of a day ....with moderate use .... Is it my ROM and radio ??
ROM :1.93.0.0 (Official)
SPL(Original)
Radio:1.00.25.05 (Official)
As you can see i have not flashed the deivce .... but in order to improve my battery liife , I am willing to take that step.
I dont think it makes much of a difference. The Diamond has a powerful processor and the battery doesnt suite the phone except that it makes it thin. If you dont mind a little thickness, buy a larger battery.
I think thats the only way to go.
I think he is saying that he already has a 1350mAh Battery Extension attached, and with this battery he gets only 3/4 of a day.
That seems to short for me. Since 900mAh almost lasts 2 days....
Anyone else can give his opinion about BP270 1350mAh?
I think it matters whether you are using push email or not. Or, even just checking mail automatically on a regular basis. Signal is also an issue. If you don't check mail and have a strong signal, you'll get good battery life. If you're like me and check 2 accounts and work in a basement, better have the charger at your desk

Hey,
I have the same problem here... I have an extended battery too, and it only last me for about 3/4 of a day as well, which was better then the original battery which only lasted of 1/2 a day... The only thing that I'm using the phone for is a couple of text messages, and like 1hr of talk time a day... I'm also having problem getting GPS to lock with this extended battery. I did some search and some people said that it's the phone, that we might have a defective phone... Because I tried everything, every radio, battery fix, tweek... But if anyone can help, I will donate as a thank you.
With radio rom 1.09.25.23
and Rom v. 2.03.401.2
my 900mAh battery ,provide me about 2,5-3 days without charging with moderate use

I get about 2 days with rather moderate usage, find that if i turn off 3G by default i get more, i also find that my call quality is better here on GSM. I'm running Dutty's v4 ROM & 1.08.25.20 Radio.
To turn off 3G
start menu/settings/connections/comm manager
then change 3G to off.
Good luck!
Steve
After flashing the new 2.03 ROM I noticed, that my battery drained really quickly (compared to older ROMs).
After running Advanced Config, I noticed, that all the power saving features are disabled. Before enabling them the phone used to go from 100% charge in the evening to ~80% in the morning (without any usage, of course).
After applying the power saving features it only loses ~5% during the night.
With moderate usage I get about 3-4 days without charging. Without these settings I used to get only get ~2 days...
ROM version 2.03
Radio 1.00.25.08
2 different devices
I think we face two situations ! The duration of over 2 days and those lasting less than a day! Why?
In my case for example as any in the home do not fall below 100 mA. When Kaiser was consuming only 14 mA
Rom 1.93.831.1
Radio 1.00.25.08
And my battery survive only 12 hours.
i tried a lot of radio version but no luck...do i have the right ROM????
Moderate
I think we should define what "moderate usage" means lol
Mine last 2 days
I don't think 1 hour a day of talk is moderate.
I have found that it seems that some softwares are very power hungry. For exemple klaxon from this forum works perfect but when I use g-clock from this forum too for the same usage, it doesn't work because my battery is empty the next morning lol. Coreplayer is suprisingly low power hungry but allreader+ ask a lot from the battery.
I don't use push mail but 3g and I only enable wifi when needed. I have seen here some softwares that keep gps alive too and this must be power consimming too.
Anyone who's seen me in Rom threads probably knows that I usually ask the question about battery life, its like one of my obsessions... I want a phone that does a lot, but gets the most battery life too, probably not a winning combination, but it all helps!
I read on one thread that someone was using a radio version 1.10 and found it gave them better battery life then the new 1.13 with no loss of signal / gps.
Anyone got any thoughts?
1.13 radio
i just upgraded the radio in my hd to the new 1.13 from 1.09 and feel that the battery is a little better than before. i also currently running kwbr topix 1.0.1 wm6.1 rom. today will be the first full with that combo. i'll get back to you tomorrom on how the consumption is.
Have been using 1.13 since release and found no issues at all.
I am using Duttys 2.9 ROM and am getting 2.5 - 3 days of reasonably heavy use. Before i was getting 2 max before
Battery life sucks for me.....
2-3 days of battery life with heavy use.... i cannot even imagine getting that on my phone.
I dunno whats wrong with my phone .
I just updated to the new rom and radio from htc website.
Also, have disabled, wifi, data connections, active sync... all the stuff that take the juice out.
Also i am in NA, so also disabled 3g.
My setting are set manually for backlight and it is at the third point from the left.
I also have screen turn-off in 1min as well as switch off in 4 min.
In terms of program, i have pocket shield and incall touch lock program.
No after charging the battery to full.
This is wat i get,
Talk time- 30-45 min.
Music - 120 min. (S2P2 player)
Wifi - 10 min.
Now after almost 30 hrs.
battery is showing jst one bar.
==================================
Am sure what usage i mentioned above is definitely cannot be termed as heavy.

I'd do this too, its best to start with a rom, see battery life first without installing anything, then add bits one by one and you can usually eliminate the culprit!

i use the music player for about 2 hour's a day and use the phone for about 1-2 hours and i am nearly always on the net with it as well.
edit: @drgopoos, WiFi eats battery like you wouldn't believe so no wonder you dont get more than 24hrs. I once had WiFi on and plugged the phone in to sync with my PC and the battery still went down. What happens if you dont use WiFi. Surely you dont need it 24/7?
I too am in the same boat, can't really stretch much past half a day with a bit of music, websurfing and the occasional email. No WiFi, only 3G. I've loaded a few apps (TomTom, CorePlayer and PHM Regedit) and don't have Exchange or anything active. Running Dutty V3.6 XT and radio 1.14.25.24.
Watch your power settings! My sat-nav program turned off the "turn off device after xxx mins" option in there. I could hardly reach 24 hours with one charge since the device never really turned off. This was really annoying e.g. when a reminder popped up at night, or when the phone was out of my reach.
After I realized that and set my option properly (screen 30 secs/power off after 1 min) my device lasts at least 2 days with normal use and even 3-4 days at light use.
I use radio 1.14.25.24 on Duttys 3.4 XT

A-ha. I am getting 2 weeks with extremely heavy use.
Brightness is set to 100%, Wi-Fi and BT are always on. And I talk 24 hours a day also.
mine always have some strange consumption of power when I leave it through the night
before I go to bed it would be around 50% but when I wake up (5 hours later without running any programs of course) it drop to Battery very low
I'm using Radio 1.14, when I was on 1.13 I'm not experience that problem
I got the feeling that the newer radios use more battery. I've just downgraded to version 1.09.25.14, which I think was the original one that came with the phone. I will let you know my experience with that.

Even with stock rom I would get no where near this, and I doubt anyone else would. I've used all Throys roms and yes it may be possible to get battery usage to maybe 2 - 2.5 days when left on standby but with heavy use!!! Extremely doubtful.......what do you classify as heavy use? Leaving it alone on standby locked in the cellar so no one can touch it!!
god, i'm happy when i make it through the day, meaning 12-16h without recharging, little to no music, hour or 2 msn, some net, normal call/sms, few weather updates....best i got was about 36h on Lost In Asia v5, generally Titanium seems to drain less then Manila :/
i could see getting 3 days if i buy 2 more batteries....or never unplug it from my laptop/socket :/

around 48 h with normal use
But i noticed that 4 things eat a lot my battey:
-when i check my mail and when the connection is bad ...
-when my HD is connected to my pc by usb
-when i'am in subway because sometimes it's edge, sometimes HSDPA etc...
- Wifi of course !
By the way, manila eat more battery than titanium...

I have suffered with battery life as well... Can never get past a day to be honest & I have tried almost every ROM from here including WM6.1 & 6.5. I use my phone mostly for music, little bit of gaming and web surfing. It is connected to net all the time though, because I have unlimited data plan. I normally leave home at 8:30 in the morning & till then the phone stays plugged in with the charger over night.
On the way to work and back I listen to music with normal 3.5mm headphone & sometimes play xtract or watch movie. The journey time is around 40 mins each way. I actively surf internet for around 15mins during break, not every day though. My emails get automatically downloaded after every 2 hours from 4 different providers. AND THAT'S ABOUT IT.
By the time I get home at around 6 in the evening the battery level is generally at around 65% and I consider this as light use.
Is there any chance to improve it?! I don't wanna buy those huge batteries which shatters the sexyness of the device.
Hi,
I came across this cab file today for the Kaiser http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2132767&postcount=151
its right said:
ok guys, some of you want to increase the battery life, i attached a cab file which contains these registries:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Irsir1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\PPTP1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:0
all of these can improve the battery life, but if you face any issues with WiFi, just check these registries .
enjoy.

I have spent about an hour trolling through all sorts of posts and would like any feedback on what is recommended.
Thanks in advance.
anyone have any comments? surely im not the only one trying to get a full day out of the stock battery.
This is the best hack out there.
http://cgi.ebay.com/AT-T-TILT-8925-...s?hash=item1c05a465c2&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116
if I not wrong, sp call battery hack ..it not really hack to battery, It only reduce the phone keep searching the network (which consume a lot battery ...according to some forum).
I think this one better ..2800mah ...

My phone will last about 3 days by measurement if I'm not running Flexmail with two mailboxes online. Otherwise, 14 hours.
Want a full day out of your Tilt? Limit network activities, or interactive activities, and don't use the GPS. Network, backlight, and GPS are probably the biggest power users on the Tilt. I assume WiFi too, but the only thing I've used WiFi on my Tilt is for scanning for open access points.
Sorry bumping thread couple of months old....
I've got a Kaiser HTC TyTN II and my battery is a shame.... i can't get it until the end of the day, always getting empty at the end of the day....
What can i do to improve the battery life time?
I've installed those cabs, but nothing really happens....
My phone idle during the night takes like 20-25% of the total battery.
I just use my phone to make and receive calls (lot of them), and sometimes the bluetooth when staying at the car.
Some time ago i ordered a 2800mah battery, but i really don't want to carry always a replacement battery with me, besides its really heavy and big....
Thank you for you advices.

There's an old saying begars can't be choosers... Kinda makes sense you want better battery life yet you want to stick to stock battery.
Ummmm? Buy a OEM new stock battery if the size of 2800 is too much? To be honest the Tilt is a brick anyway so i'm happy to have aprx 1cm added to the base... Also maybe time to try all the Radio's available to see if you can get better battery life, while @ it hard-reset device to start from fresh
