I'm looking to buy a replacement battery cover for my Sony Xperia in black. Anybody know where to find one?
Thanks!
I second that, looking for a replacement cover as well..
Keep an eye out on this site http://cnn.cn/shop/sonyericsson-xperia-c-28_638.html, so far they just have a placeholder for the X1 but they are a great resource for OEM replacement parts. Hopefully they'll start stocking X1 parts soon.
yeah i would like to get one so i can drill a hole in it. seems like im always resetting this phone and i hate to keep taking the cover off. im afraid it might not stay on after so many removals.
This is the battery cover of my x1 !!
That hole is so pratical!

Hmmm... that drilling isn't exactly top-notch. How was it done?
i think it looks good. what are the dimension from either the top of the battery cover or bottom. what drill bit size also.
thanks.
put a small piece of paper soaked with ink in the reset button hole. Then close the battery cover. Open the battery cover and you can see the exact point to drill.
You must use a mini-drill, like dremel
Am looking for a replacement battery cover too. My week old X1 looks 100% brand new, but unfortunately, I made a small dent on the battery cover by accident. If this was an old phone I wouldn't care much. But, mine is barely a week old......
I email to sony support, I'm in HK
and they said the battery cover need HK$280
I still thinking buy or not, cause the metal battery cover is too easy with scratches
unless your phone freeze, u dont need to press that reset button, there are softwares that let you softsoft.
when phone freezes, holding the "panel" button usually get out of freeze.
I also would like to buy new battery cove (silver). Somebody found where can we buy new cover??
Thanks
if u do have scratches, i suggest u remove the cover, grab a tin of brasso and nice muslin cloth. Polish the cover you would be amazed at the stuff a polish from brasso can do. Again recommended only on the cover.
i have done it on my x1 and my ipod. Both look as good as new.
I am looking for a cover too, so i can buy one and get vodafone to reimburse me, are they made of a cheapo material, mine got really scraped in my pocket within a few hours, but nothing else was in my pocket and its a cotton/polyester pocket...
Ric
When i was doing a mod on the cover (drilling a hole for the reset), i found that it was hard to drill thru. i think its made of stainless steel. anyways, i got the silver one, you might be talking about the black x1 getting easily scratched on the battery cover because its painted. i dont know if thats a true statement, just an assumption.
The black ones are anodised and not painted.

Does it mean it is possible to poish it in a way if there is a scratch there?
I have some small annoying scratches that i hope to be able to remove, maybe wait for replacement battery cover to arrive at cnn.cn

Hi all,
just wondering if anyone has come across a protective case for the XDA. The sort of thing I want is rubber not leather............
any ideas
Thanks
I saw some in an outdoor shop and will probably get myself one as soon as I can find the time to go there again.
They were meant to be used for digital cameras or portable audio players I think. They were at least rainproof, (one even claimed to be submergible!) I think they would provide the shelter required for carrying the device around in everyday use. The only problem is that you'll have to get the XDA out of the case to actually use it.
Martin
Thanks
Hi Martin, thanks for the reply.
I have found a case similar to what you have described at www.ruggedpeak.com. they seam a little expensive bur probably cheaper than a new XDA !!
XDA Hard Case
O2 sell a hard case for the XDA - It's a metal case lined with foam, that clips over the XDA and makes it pretty much shock proof - I have one, and it's GREAT!

Hi people Ive found a cheap and very strong case for our device.
See this link here http://www.outdoortrends.de/index.html?d_DE_39622_700_Deuter_Handytasche_Phone_Case_M6646.htm
Ive used the s model(antanna hanging out) for 1 year but its a tight fit thus heavy pulling of the zip every time to close it and it has survived a year of this treatment and still not a tear and only some paint came off the zipper.
They now have the M model which fits the Xda perfectly totally enclosing it. It offers no protection but the thing I like about this case is I can wear it horizontally on my belt with the screen facing inward and thats very comfortable.
If you see it in an outdoor store give it a try its cheap enought
Hey guys...i bought a similar case on ebay... Similar to This. The concept was great, it is lined with a nice padded feltish. materal but the closing latch did a huge number on my phone. Luckily (Ironicly) my screen $hit the bed, and T-Mo is replacing the phone for me.. My words of advice, find out what their return policy is on the merchandise and if you don't like it see if you could exchange it for something different. I didn't do that and I am stuck with my case
I would be willing to sell it for $25 (buyer pays shipping) to someone that deoesn't have paint on their XDA. I didn't like it because I like my stuff always looking new. anyone interested PM me.
is that the case which doesnt have button holes and covers the whole phone with the airel sticking out the hole at the top.
i had one of these on my 1st xda and ti made a horrible mark near my ariel and the catch scuffed up all the side and it kept popping open and all.
the PROPORTA one is a hell of a lot better that kept my 64mb XDA mint as and still looks mint today not a scrach on it just fingerprtints all over the screen and sides lol.
get the proporta one much better then that other metal case.
gaz
I totaly agree the Proporta case is a little gem they on eBay I expect thats where I picked mine up from
Anyone bought one? i figured $6 a piece...y not
Sent from my wifes shift because its way better than my hero.
I got mine today. Bought it from a seller off ebay. I can't post links yet else I would show you which one. Sorry.
It makes the phone kinda thick and its definitely not rubberized just cheap flimsy plastic. The front cover on mine does not stay on. looks like it was miss manufactured and is missing a tab. Contacted the seller and he's sending me a new front cover. Hopefully this one is better. The back piece stays on pretty solid. In fact I'm scared to take it off. Feels like I might break the tabs on it if I do. Makes it hard to slide the keyboard out lots of resistance but my phones slide is pretty resistive to began with.
I bought one on ebay as well. Maybe it's just my luck, mine works fine, both the front and back cover stays on. I am not sure what the previous poster means by it's not rubberized, mine pretty much feels like the back of the shift but a bit more smooth/less rubbery, if that makes sense.
It does make the shift thicker, but to me it makes sense because it protects the camera lense & screen when you put the phone flat on a surface. But it does make the power button harder to press when I wasn't used to the case. FYI it's about 2mm thinner than the Seidio case, according to my measurement against the measurement someone posted for the Seidio case.
The only thing I don't like about it is that there is a slight bow on the right side of the front cover. You can't tell by looking but it doesn't stay against the side of the screen and there's a slight give when you press on it.
Wife and I got ours, no problems what so ever, sweetg colors too! Def is rubberized
Mine...

How does this feel in your hands. On my shift, when I am messaging for awhile with my hardware keyboard, the hard edge on the back of the screen starts to dig into my hand, and I often will hit the power button. Has anyone who has gotten one of these rubberized cases noticed this before (or after) they got this case? Can anyone take a few picture of these with the keyboard open please?
thanks!
I just got this case because my prior case (the one in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926269) was a bit bulkier than I wanted. However, that just means that now the whole issue of hitting the volume key is back.
Oh well. I'll keep this one for a bit to see if I get used to it or if need to switch back to my other one. FYI for everyone, I got the black version and this has a few bits of plastic pieces that got baked onto the back during the manufacturing process. Not a big enough deal for me to exchange an $8 case over, but just so you're aware there might be some minor quality issues.
Anybody have an invisible shield installed on their Droid 3? I just got mine in the mail today and i tried putting it on but the corners on the back keep popping up...I really dont want to pull it up and try to reinstall because I already ran out of the solution they gave me and had to use some leftover from my Touch Pro2's install kit. Any advice is helpful Thanks
Yes I had the same problem. I think I fixed it by starting at one corner of the phone, holding it down for a few seconds and slowly moving all over the outer edge. There are a few spots that curl up but it looks good.
It sucks, I think it took me an hour to get it how I felt comfortable it would not peel off.
Just keep working at it. It feels like they rushed production and it does not fit the phone the correct way.
Sent from my DROID3
yeah for all my other phones the corners were cut so the side flap folded down and the top flap had an extra edge so u could fold it up and wrap the extra peice around the corner. it looks like this one the corners are just rounded...i tried the 'palming' method and it's working but still peels up after a while. I'm trying to be patient but it's still rather annoying.
If you ran out of the solution you can just fill it up with water, the manual says up to 3 times or so. Its just soap and water.

Wow, that's crazy haha. I guess I should practice reading the manuals more, after doing it so many times I just take out the plastic and start going to work. This was the first time i got a refillable bottle though, maybe it's something new they do?
On another note...
As an update, i ended up taking it to a zagg kiosk at the mall and i must say, I wish i had done that to begin with. I really didn't see how their installation could be so amazing but it was FLAWLESS...I kind of wish I had stayed and watched her do it instead of walking around the mall. Maybe I could have learned her secrets so I could make it look that good myself next time around haha.
These pics were taken within 5 minutes of leaving the mall. No bubbles at all, and all corners stayed down.

It cost $10 for the install but i think it was worth it. If it ever peels i can go get it replaced for free.
I was thinking about getting one of the invisible shields, but they seemed a bit expensive, and with a $10 applying fee (I doubt I'll be able to get it on) that's a lot for a protective film. Just wondering if other people think they're worth the price.
I think it's definitely worth the price IF you use your phone like me. I refuse to put it in a hard case and always keep in in my pocket, so it basically eliminates scratches and prevents drops because it adds a better grip/feel to the phone. Especially when taking it out of my pocket there's a chance of it slipping out of my fingers so the full body works for me. Even if you do use a case, though, the screen protector is probably a good idea. It's the best one but since it's thicker some people don't like it. I got used to it on my Touch Pro and since then i've never noticed it being hard to slide my finger on the screen. It's all up to preference basically, but there's a reason why you get multiple protectors with the cheaper versions vs. 1 with invisible shield. It just works.
Also search online for online coupons, i used Zagg20 to get a 20% discount, so all together with the install it was a little over $30. Either way you get a lifetime warranty, but if you don't get it installed by them you have to remove, ship, and reinstall the new invisible shield yourself (they reimburse for shipping) and I didn't want to struggle with the back again.
I've noticed that through all these stories of cracked backs, that no one has bothered to talk about the back of the phone. It seems to be removable with the screws on the back and comes off as a whole piece like so:

What does this mean for someone selling backs? I feel like if that was an option, they would be loaded in cash, I mean there can't be that many crucial components on the back-plate (I have only heard that the NFC antenna resides on the back), so you could make em' cheap and sell them for like $40 to replace the once whole and now shattered remains of the sad glass back known as everyone on the XDA's phone backside.
According to iFixit:
Step 8
The rear cover of most phones is a ho-hum piece of plastic that serves no real purpose other than covering the battery. That is not the case here.
A number of pressure contacts power the NFC antenna and connect the induction coil needed for wireless charging to the motherboard.
With "wireless charging" listed as an official tech spec for the Nexus 4, we were anxious to try it out on our device. Alas, the phone doesn't ship with a wireless charger. Boo.
Two years ago, Google brought NFC to the smartphone realm with the Nexus S. It's been a long road, but the technology seems to finally be catching on.

I am sure there will be a market for it to some extent.
Else we will have issues where you see kid nappings where ppl are slipped a ruffie in vegas and they wake up in a tub with the back of thier phone missing.
I certainly hope someone eventually starts selling replacement backs but I disagree slightly about the purported simplicity of offering up a replacement.
Sure, the back is not irreversibly integrated into the rest of the phone, but there is a whole lot more built into the back assembly than say perhaps the other classic example of a mass production phone that had the misfortune of featuring a glass back, the iPhone 4/4S. Say what you will about apple on a myriad of other topics, but at least on the 4/4S design the rear glass was not integrated into any other part of the phone, you could replace it with 2 screws and for 10 dollars.
The problem with the N4 is that I shouldn't need to replace the entire back assembly of the phone, just the finicky glass plate. However, that is bonded to the back of the phone with adhesive and it remains to be seen if there will be any viable way to replace it... but I'm assuming not.

This isnt really on topic at all, but it reminded me of this: xkcd : Ice
That said, wonder if there will be third party backs made of plastic?
There are antennas in there (at least the NFC ones) and it will be more expensive then a plain plastic one with nothing, but at least i'd satisify those among us that wish it didnt have a glass back.
Has anyone else bought this? I'm a bit disapointed in it. XDA has turned off search so I couldn't search for similar threads.
On Amazon they picture the buckle fitting like this. Clearly reaching out and over the entire edge and holding on tight from under.

Mine, fits like this. It's as snug as a bug in the case and no more pressure or pushing is going to make it any better. The buckle just doesn't clasp correctly
I have that case, and it only happens for me when the lower corners are not fully seated (depressed) in their holders. I know you said it is snug as a bug, and if that is the case, yours is definitely made different as mine clasps as in the first photo.
Thanks.. It's clearly defective.
I opened the case up and just put the N10 on it so there is 0% chance of anything keeping it from closing how it was intended.
It clearly is made wrong. There is no way that is clasping no matter what. Pisses me off. $15 product and they know most people won't go through the trouble of going somewhere to ship it back, paying for shipping (and then waiting for them to credit you back) and hope they get it right the second time.. It still holds, especially with the little elastic strap but I'd prefer that extra little security.. Oh well..
I have no luck with cases. My Moko case for the N7 had the magnet improperly placed and the smart cover feature never worked. (it did work though I tested it with a magnet)
Looks like that clasp isn't bent enough. The rigid material underneath is probably plastic whereas metal could perhaps be bent a little more to adjust the fit. Bummer.
I massaged down strip of foam that runs on that edge there and it's sliding over better. Not like in their photo but it's more than it originally was.. It's usable and think once the foam softens up a bit more it'll be even better.
It stays shut and is protected ... Others have complained about the same thing in reviews: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6X3ZM6/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
I see the complaints you're talking about. I'd send a picture of mine, but it's at home. I have to sort of flex the cover down while pulling up a bit on the hook to get it closed. The fit is rather tight, so I am trying to lessen the wear of repeated use. When closed the lid dips down just slightly at the hook. It would be a hassle to return. Maybe they would acknowledge a quality control problem and send a free replacement under the 3-year warranty? You're certainly not alone as Amazon attests.
I'm sorry to hear that. Mine fits perfectly. Smart Cover works pretty well to although I'm not used to it yet. My only complain is that while playing with it, the device gets hotter than usual.
I remember that in the beginning the inner tabs were very tight so I bent them to be able to remove the device more easily. I know it's difficult with that tab particularly. You can try using a heater if it's in fact plastic.
Silly question, did you move the elastic band so it's on the outside when closing the case?
Just ordered my Nexus 10 this morning and seriously considering this case...Should I do it? How reliable is their warranty if the case starts peeling or something? Should I worrya bout the tablet getting scratched while putting it on or getting it in kickstand mode so I can type on it in class?
Thanks!
In my modest opinion, the case is awesome. I own mine for about two months now. To be honest, I don't care about the warranty for a 15$ thing except if you have to return it because it's clearly defective.
I like the case, but I found another one in Amazon that I might like better. If I find it again I'll tell you.

I'd say do it. I wasn't going to use a case at all, but I realized I needed one for travel. I really liked that this one didn't have a bezel. I thought I'd use it just for travel, but I've never taken it off.
I mean, I mainly use the nexus without it, especially for gaming. But exactly, I need it for carrying it in the backpack. And the stand functionality is awesome fit browsing. This is the third case I have of this type. I use another one with my note 2 and with the transformer before if this tablet.
