On Course Navigator to a regular SD card - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

I have the new On Course Navigator http://www.oncoursenavigator.com and want to transfer it off of the shipped SD card onto my bigger, regular card. Anybody have any success in doing this?

I tried this with ocn6 when all it had was a 2GB card. Now they offer ocn8 with an 8GB card so I'd suggest getting it.
I tried even backing up the sectors via an image backup utility and restoring it, but it still didn't work.
I just wanted the extra space for music so I wouldn't have to switch the cards out so much.
One thing to note, it is against their license agreement to do this.
Just dump the $140 for the 8GB and be done. If you just bought ocn8 maybe they will allow you to return the old one and upgrade?

Anyone has problems with 2 gig SD card in their 8125?

Everytime i insert my card it asks me if i want to format it to make it readable? - even though i formatted it in my computer. Also i cant write anything to it when my 8125 recognizes it in a slot. The cars is SanDisk so it should be a good quality.
I'm using a 2GB SanDisk card with no trouble at all. I _didn't_ format it on my PC but rather used it straight out of the box.
Do you still have the same message if you let the 8125 format the card?
i tried doing that and it says that the phone cannot recognize the card.... the weird thing is that the card goes in crooked and the fit isnt perfect i have to push it in hard.....
Quite a few people reporting a problem like this - seems to be fixed with sktools or storage tools (google them demos allow you to format - install on device) and format card on device to fat16.

I have the same problem before, i tried to format it to fat16 and the 2gb minisd was recognized as 1gb instead of 2, tried every solution from getting compatible version of a card reader to re-format using fdisk via DOS., Called the manufacturer and they we're happy to replace it. They advised that it should be re-formatted as fat only and not fat16 via DOS using the card reader.
good to know as i just bought a 2gigger.
The problem is that you formatted it on your PC. USe SKtools to format it on your device and you should be all set. I think the demo version of SKtools allows you to do this stuff.
i use my 2 GIG since i bought the phone almost 4 months ago without any hassle.
Just used the card out of the box without formatting it.
This issue is reported several times and is caused by using a not compatible cardreader on the PC to format the card.
A lot of the (even usb 2.0!!) cardreaders is not capable of reading over 512MB memory cards. If you use a 1Gb or 2GB card on such a reader it will probably say the card is not formatted. WHEN you do format the card using that reader, you wil make it unusable.
 Make sure you format the card via a compatible cardreader to avoid this.
 If you get a 'card not formatted' message, try to read from / write to it in your device first (before attempting to format)
Just got my 2GB card....MDA won't read it.
Camera won't read it.
PC can read it. It was Fat32, I reformatted it to Fat...still a no go in the phone or camera, but works on the PC....what gives?

I have a SanDisk 2Gig card. It worked fine right out of the package. Haven't had any problems with any of the ROMs I've run on my 8125.

my 2GB card works fine, except for the fact that it's stuck in there.. i need to tak it apart and fix the spring loaded latch somewhere in there..
I got a 2GB from Amazon: OEM 2GB MINISD Mini Secure Digital (SD) Card but it did not work on my Cing 8125.
TopRam
I have been using a 2GB miniSD made by TopRam. Works in the 8125 and with my USB card reader no problem since day one. 8125 recognizes the entire 2 gigs (well minus just a few bits...about 99% of the card). Got it off eBay while I was waiting for the phone in the mail. Never needed formatting or anything..worked straight from the package. I was a little worried at first that it wasn't one of the "well known" brands of cards, but there have been no problems whatsoever.
I'm using the Transcend 2Gb 80x MiniSD. Works like a charm.
Keep in mind that SLC flash chips (mainly made by Samsung and a.o. used by Transcend and Mobymemory) have longer lifetime, are faster and consume less power than MLC flash chips. Disadvantage is that SLC is more expensive. Bought my 2GB for approx 62 euros.

HELP - Mini-SD Un-Readable>>

Performing WizBackup successfully, resulted in an un-readable mini-SD card!!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=53132
Got this A-data 2 GB card of the net for a good price, but I don't like throwing 60 bux out the window!!!!
The card worked perfectly fine until the programming steps where the instructions start writing data from the phone to the memory card, I noticed after that point the card did not show up under file explorer on the 8125.
The data wrote fine, the software continued on, and even copied the data from the card to my PC, but after that this card has not been readable.
I do not have a card reader for my PC.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I have already attempted to use a tool on my 8125 to format the card (SpTaskManager) and it does not recognize the card either.
At this point I'm wondering if I can use a terminal service program over USB to fix the card. (seemingly the same way it was screwed up).
I sincerely appreciate any help or links, or resources into fixing this 2gb corn flake!
Thanks!!!
Well I ordered a card reader, and another 2gb card from NEW EGG this time.
I'll try the card reader instead, but I appreciate any other solutions or advice you guys have to offer.
Atleast this time if I have a card problem New Egg is usually good to deal with.
I don't think it is a hardware problem though, it's probably something wrong with the software on the card.
I don't know alot about mini sd cards, but I'd guess something similar to the MBR on a hard drive got erased.
Just an update, I also downloaded a trial version of pocketpc mechanic, and it doesn't see the card at all either.
UGG! Waiting for my other stuff from New Egg.
Same problem here...got the 2GB miniSD off ebay. It was new, or at least it looks like new packaging...but I can't get anything, SKTools, Storage Tools, card reader, camera, MDA to read the card.
Do I need to upgrade the ROM? Is 2GB too much for a miniSD?
I and many other people here have 2 gb cards so that is not the issue. What probably happened is that your card died. I had this happen to a Kingston card after only 2 weeks. They replaced it for free and even paid the shipping. There is really nothing else you can do once the card is dead. I learned the hard way to backup not just to the card but to the PC also.
TMO customer service says my ROM won't support more than 512MB. I'm still running the stock 1.2 that came with it.
Getting ready to try the ROM upgrade....hold your breath......

Getting a bigger storage card

Santa is bringing me a 16GB card for my AT&T Tilt (HTC 8925 WinMo 6.1). I'm currently using an 8GB card, and nearly all of my programs are installed to it. I have spent hours...no...DAYS getting my phone how I want it, so I'm understandably nervous about the prospect of changing cards.
Should I just copy the 8GB card onto the 16GB card, or should I instead do a hard reset bloatware removal and start from scratch. Now that I'm a little more experienced, it shouldn't take as long to install everything.
If anybody has advice, I'd be glad to hear from ya. Not long ago, I copied my own Garmin Mobile XT card to my 8GB card (with a few little hacks). I know Garmin won't work if I copy the 8GB card to the 16 GB card due to the piracy protection that uniquely identifies the storage card, but the other programs should transfer okay, right?
Thanks in advance.
If you use your PC to move everything off of the 8GB to the 16GB, there should be absolutely no problem (unless certain files just won't move) with, of course, the exception of programs that are secured. However, I can't think of any other programs that would give you trouble.
I did the same when I upgraded from 1 gig card to 8. I copied all the files to a folder on PC, turned off phone, switched to the 8 gig card and then copied old files back to new card. As long you don't erase all the old info from the 8 gig and just copy and paste to the 16 gig, you should have no probs.

Help Info With SDHC

Hi,
I have CID/Sim unlocked my Kaiser and installed Dutty's 6.1 rom with the great help offered on this forum, I am very happy with it but I have a few questions that I can't find answers, so would like some help please...
What is the highest capacity SDHC card I can put in, I have at the moment a 2GB MicroSD card with all my apps & stuff on...
When I get a new SDHC card can I back up my original MicroSD card with Sprite and then transfer to my new SDHC card and restore back on to my Kaiser with my new card...
Cheers
Jay
16gb is the largest you'll find right now, just do a google search for "16gb microsd" average price is around $100 US, although you can find lower. 32gb is in the works. You will be able to transfer all the files including back-up files from your old card to the new. Just remember that you'll need an SDHC compatible card reader for your computer to do the transfering quickly. An SDHC will not read with an older card reader. Of course you can always use activesync to manage the files on the new card, it's just a lot slower than using your computer directly.

I found this thread in the Kaiser Accessories Forum within about 1 min and as this is a very often discussed topic (even though the facts remain the same since year dot), don't be surprised if this thread gets locked.

Also a question thats been asked before. As already mentioned you're better off to use the card reader and I use Windows to directly make a backup of your card. I just use Windows XP Professionals built in Back Up or Restore Application and it does the trick perfectly and for free, even with different capacity cards.
Since you're new here Jay-La-Funk, you'll find it helpful to review the xda-wiki, that's the link up the top and towards the left and use the forums search function, a few to the right of the wiki link.
I wouldn't even bother using any back up app. Just use a sdhc card reader and copy all the files from your current card to a temp location on your hard drive. Switch cards and copy them all back.
Hi,
Thanks to all for replying, appreciated, now to look for a cheap SDHC card...

Good idea, think I'll use your method and forget about Sprite Backup, will save a lot of hassle, once I have all my apps, files in order on the new card, I'll then backup with Sprite...

[Q] Dead External SD Card?

This may just be a case of me being genuinely unlucky in my purchases but humour me anyway!
Like you lot I have an SGS and with all the recent mods regarding sound I like to use it as my mp3 player, so buying a micro sd card for additional storage was a must.
I had a spare 4gb class 2 card lying around so I've been using that for some months. Finally decided to upgrade to a more meaningful 16gb class 4 card.
Ordered one off Amazon through a seller. As soon as I put the card in the phone, it refused to recognise it but my PC, digital camera, old blackberry 9000 and n95 saw it just fine. So I formatted the card in the pc using the downloadable SD Card formatter as some googling suggested this might return the card to a working state. After that the phone saw a 16gb card, so I copied some music onto it, it worked for about 30 mins and then the card died totally. Upon reinserting it into the pc, windows only saw an 8mb card in RAW format and nothing I've done since has recovered the card. Card was dead.
Anyway I contacted the seller who posted me a nice shiny Kingson 16gb class 6 card right away.
New card arrived last night, appeared in the phone straight away as a 16gb card. Great start.
Plugged the phone in, started copying some music on it - the write speed was incredibly slow. I mean really slow, 100mb of mp3s was taking the best part of 3 minutes. Popped the card in the PC, same problem.
I find that I can actually write data to the card till its full (albeit slowly) but once you've written more than around 4gb of data, the files start to vanish.
I know it sounds incredibly stupid but anything written after around the 4gb mark just doesn't appear when I plug it into the phone or the PC. The card claims it is full, but only 4gb of data is visible, let alone accessible. I've done the usual formatting of the card and changing card readers etc etc but the result is the same and this is starting to grow boring.
So, question. Am I just incredibly unlucky in my purchases or is my SGS killing cards? Because I'm quite weary of buying yet another card now.
Funny enough my old 4gb card still works just fine like it has for years.
I know you'll have a FAT (file allocation table) that usually reserves a predetermined amount of space on the card for file locations. But your memory card should not be able to accept more than whats available and should be displayed correctly no matter what your using. IE pc or phone. Kingston are fairly reputable, but is your dealer reputable. There are a lot of counterfeits out there. I don't believe the phone itself is damaging these cards. Since your stating your old trusty card still works like a champ
