I successfully unpacked my Garmin card to an 8GB Sandisk card I use in my phone. If you don't like switching cards all the time, there is a fairly simple procedure to copy the Garmin card to your own SD card. Google it. The software has worked perfectly since I implemented this work-around.
Here's my question for anybody who may know. It took about an hour to unpack my Garmin card to my Sandisk card. However, I just stepped up to a 16 GB Sandisk card. Will I have to go through that whole work-around procedure again to get Garmin to install on my new card due to its unique i.d. or is there some simpler method? I have looked for a thread on this subject. A link would be much appreciated if it exists.
Yes; the unique ID is tied to the CARD serial number; change cards, it becomes invalid.
I wonder if you can just update those two notepad documents.
To install I had to place two notepad documents on the card containing serial number information. I wonder if you can use Keygen to update just those two files and then copy it successfully to the new card.
Keygens are a banned topic here.
We're walking a fine line here. I think I'll error on the side of caution and close this thread.

hello,
first: very good page, with a lot of infos and bombastic apps.
but i'm a newbie, i read a lot, but couldn't find a post recommend to my question. also my english isnt very good
my problem: i bought my herald without a memory card. so i installed the apps i found&liked (touchflo, flashlite, kaiserhomeplugin, htc cube clone;total commander;google maps, scitebackup) in the ram of my ppc.
but today i bought a micro sd card. now i would like to move my apps to the card.
questions: can i cut&paste the apps in the folder "programms" to a folder in my card, with the total commender. or isnt this allowed because of the registry or something like that? maybe problem with the .ink files?!
is it better to uninstall all programms. and install them new, this time directly to the sdcard?
thanks for your helps
greetings...
you can try copy paste
just like on pc's some will run others will not
though mind you things like today items and other always
running programs should not be put on the sd card
as they are much slower then storage
thank u
My SD card runs them as fast as the main memory, but I wouldn't install things that are running all the time in it. So, don't install things like the cube on the card. You should uninstall and reinstall the programs into the proper memory storage. It's easier and less problematic that way.
You can move installed programs between MAIN or SD memory using POCKET MECHANIC (http://www.wizcode.com/)
I moved all the tmobile crap (hotspot login, tzones wap, etc..) and anything else I don't want to get rid of, but I never use onto my SD card.
How will we have to wait for a 10 or 12 gb Micro SD Card
I know on the Garmin website it says you can’t take the maps off their pre-loaded SD Card but I’ve seen on here that people have done it. Has anyone done this? Can you put them on another larger SD card or even the internal memory?
Thanks,
-Vree
Most of those people did not buy their Garmin maps from Garmin
Yes you can use it on your own card. I use Garmin on my 8gb card.

OK, cool, so I should just buy the pre-loaded card and then transfer it?
Yes you can do that. However Garmin will not recognize the maps on the new card (larger) outright and you need to generate an unlock code using a map unlocker. You can search for that in the forum. you'll need to create 2 files gm.unl and sw.unl and put it in the garmin folder on the SD Card. then Garmin should pick it up.
All the SD cards have an integral ID number, that is what Garmin looks for... The ID of the card matches the ID registered in the app.
There are ways of generating new unlock keys, but that bordering on violating this site's piracy terms... it is definately against Garmin's.
anything beyond this lies with Google
move all mobile xt to SD?
is it possible to run mobile xt from the SD card to save space on the phone?
i installed aka transfered Garmin XT onto my 8g SD
and i run it from SD, on first run it will always install a few reg settings, but i have hard reset my ppc several times, but as long as i run queppc.exe from the garmin folder in my SD it wont require an install.
also all you have to do is install garmin onto your SD card, and put your code into the folder. theres not special SD codes, or anything of that nature.. i say this as i have moved it from card to card, as long as the sw.unl is in the folder it works.
then i use garmin desktop software to backup my waypoints.
another note, the folder 2577 is not needed for anything. what this folder does is when you INSERT your SD card, it reads whats in that folder and runs it. this is not garmin specific, its USB stick all the way to flash drive tricks.
I believe talking about this is against the rules since there was another topic similar to this that was closed. I will recommend that you use Google.
Hello,
Whenever my Kaiser's Media player accesses the new 8GB card for music on it, it hangs. When I remove the card the phone revives. What could be the problem. Thanks
Regards
Format the card, either with the phone, or in windows. Then pop it into the phone so it can build its own folder structure, and then reload your music. I had this issue when I first got my 8gb also.
Search and read up on MicroSDHC on wiki ... Also check if its formated as Fat32, download ie. pocket mechanic for this (Licensed but trial are free), you can see its format under card information. If all fail use the Xda-Dev Search Engine whit strings as: MicroSDHC reformat, tons of info and I bet your issue is in there somewhere
I don't believe it! Against my better judgement, I bid on a 32gb Micro SD card from China. When I won the bid for £19. I foresaw a paypal dispute over a bogus card. But...
I received the card today, plugged it in to my HD2 and immediately went to settings. The £19. sd card is reading 31986.94 mb free!! I know it's probably too good to be true, and I'll have to do some testing to post a real report, but I just had to share.
Here's the listing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180531969727&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Try to load the thing with more than 16GB of data and you will get data corruption

I'm sure going to give it a try, but not while it's inside my phone...
Fill all the 32gb with any files. Don't copy small files, they take too much time.
Before you copy, create a .sfv (checksum file) of all the files to be copied.
After you managed to fill all the 32gb copy the files back to your PC and verify all the newly copied files with that .sfv you created earlier.
Do this test at least twice.

Thanks for the tip Pathologo. Btw, How do I create the sfv file please?
Just a brief update, I copied a couple of avi files, aprox 350mb each. They seemed to take a long time to copy in comparison to my 16gb Sandisk micro sd. Once they copied though, the files played perfectly on my Core Player.

In case you are using the great file manager Total Commander, it can create/verify sfv files.
You can also google for "sfv" and you will find many sites and tools, like Wikipedia and RapidCRC.
Please note that even when your files are played in CP, they still can become corrupted when copying to such a cheap card and most of the time you won't notice it because they will even play fine with some artifacts or such.

Thanks for the info, I'm getting skeptical about using the card at all, but I'll test it just to see and wait for the SanDisk cards to come down in price a little.
Hi
Just a quick question. Running WM7 on HTC HD2 but I can't see my SD card or any settings to get to it.
Is there any obvious setting I've missed.
You won't see it as such as it's effectively incorporated into the WP7 file system. You can tweak your PC's registry to make the device appear in Windows Explorer, which gives you limited access to folders, but you really need to use Zune or email to put files onto the device - the card doesn't work quite like it used to in terms of portable storage.
I understand schapps is working on a WP7 'Device Centre' that may help with some aspects of this - should be released following the forthcoming WP7 update.
Thanks for info.
After install I only have 64MB of data storage left. Therefore I can't install aps or take pic's etc so looks like Android for me then.
Hi,
I had the same problem few days agot...
I tried two of my sd cards, and it didn't work, so I bought a new one, and re install my hd2, then it worked...
You can try to reformat the card with SDFormatter, maybe it could help!
But you have to hard reset your phone when you change your sd card.
