Hello all,
I just got my AT&T Tilt and love it so far, except for one major annoyance. When I press the power button, the device will turn the screen back on after a few seconds to a few minutes. The problem is when it's in my pocket, it can accidentally call people. My 8125 and 8525 did not experience this issue.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Button lock
It sounds as though the phone isn't set to lock all buttons except the power button when it is in standby. This happened to me last time I re-flashed my Wizard, and I couldn't figure out for ages why my battery was draining so quickly as well!
Settings > Buttons > Lock
Hmm, not seeing any option under Buttons or Lock. I do remember this setting from WM5. It does appear, however, that the buttons are not turning the phone on, it's just waking up even if I leave it on a desk.
You can add lock to the home screen
first press and hold the hang-up button so that it locks. Then just push the power button once. This puts it in standby.
There is a idle timeout for going on standby mode, but I can't find a setting to auto-lock.

Are you paired to a Bluetooth device? I see similar behavior in my 8525 when in my car - the BT car kit does stuff which "wakes" the 8525

Try this leaving Google Maps On the Screen
Hi Guys,
I get this behavior when I have Google Maps running. It will even cycle the screen on and off a couple times.
nope and nope. just sitting on the today screen.

I have the very same problem.
However, my girlfriend whom I also bought a Tilt for, her's doesn't do it.
We've installed all the same software too, so I'm a little puzzled.
start>settings>system> key lock. set it to lock all buttons except power.

Hmmm.. yeah, umm my key lock is already set to lock all buttons except power.
The problem isn't with when you press a button it comes on. The problem is the phone turns on by itself, sitting on a table, nothing being pressed, no new email, no new sms, just lights up and that's it.

Any number of applications might be starting the device, from weather apps to calendar, diary, time sync etc etc. For example, HTCs weather app will do it depending on how often you have it set to another example I came across from someone was TREO ALERTS that contains a script "refresh.mscr" and it was set up refresh time 30 seconds (this was turning his TyTn II on by itself).
Mike
hard reset and try again.
i'm betting that none of these suggestions were helpful (except the one about some application generating a wakeup event without any other visual notifications).
i was having the same problem, but i just tried to narrow down which running program was causing the events. it's one of:
* wireless manager
* messaging
* IM
my guess is IM; i'm going to test that out in a second.
well, it's none of the above. still seems to wake up randomly anywhere from 15 seconds to several minutes.
seems to happen more frequently when it's just been turned off.
Even if you were to find what was turing the phone back on, this can still be a problem just from normal use... obviously, you WANT the phone to turn on for things like a call coming in. The solution for people like us who stick our phones in our pockets is to "lock" the phone. But for whatever reason, the Tilt doesn't lock the phone while holding down the end key. That means the only convenient way to lock it is to keep the lock function on the today screen, wasting space. Hopefully someone can find a way to allow the end key to lock the device on the Tilt just like the unbranded device.

i'm fine with using the lock function, but it still turns on randomly, using battery, and eventually unnecessarily yellowing the screen from backlight aging. my next approach is to check out the notification queue, using a notification cleaner app.
So i am having a similar problem. When i press the power button, the phone's screen turns off but when the keyboard slides, it turns back on... is there a way to make it so the keyboard sliding does not turn on the device? I think the keyboard slides around a little when in my pocket and i hate pushing 3 buttons to unlock my phone... thanks
I was having the same problem.
This is an issue with the ATT rom. Flash over HTC rom and you will be all set.
I have been having the same problem as well. I just installed this DeviceLock program:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305402
If you enable the "Lock on Wake" option, the device will be locked when it wakes up, so the backlight stays off and you won't call anyone by accidentally hitting buttons.
Also, I ran across this related thread you might want to check out (basically talking about the same thing, but for the TyTn II):

Hello everyone,
Somehow I have inadvertently set my tilt to lock the screen whenever the screen turns off. I need to disable this, and I can't find a setting. I looked in Kaisertweak, and adjusted settings in settings>system>Key Lock.
I currently have fast sleep and sleep disabled in Kaisertweak, and I have Key Lock set to "do not lock buttons".
Whenever the screen powers off, it enables this mode so that when I turn it back on I have to press the left softkey, which says "Unlock", and then press the Unlock button on the screen.
The worst part is that this is a sudden mystery problem. I went to bed last night with a proper phone, and woke up to this. I've been searching the forums all morning trying to find the answer, but I'm not having any luck.
I'm running Dutty's latest 6.1 build.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Jeff
Okie Dokie, well, I found the problem.
I had inadvertently turned on the "lock on wake" feature of the batterystatus plugin.
I didn't even know that I had this.
Problem solved.
Jeff
thanks man.. I did the exact same thing yesterday and I didn't know how to fix this, until I read your post. I dont' even remembering checking that option in batterystatus. It's kinda weired. But thanks again..
My corporate MS Exchange Server automatically enforced the screen lock security to be used when I connected to the server for the first time. Everytime the phone goes to sleep I have to reenter the password to get access to the device. This is annoying and I would like to disable it somehow. Following the above information I went to the battery options advanced tab and disabled the option "Turn off the device if not used for...".
This seems to stop the lock screen after pushing the pwr buton on and off.
Does anyone know a better way to avoid the screen lock required by MS Exchange Server setting?
I'm using jjblaster's 28014 ROM. I have the setting to NOT lock the keys when the device is off. Whenever S2P is running and the screen goes blank, the keys don't wake the device back up as they do when S2P is not running. The only way for me to get it to wake back up is to slide it out, then back in.
Do I have something strange in my settings for S2P or something? Has anyone else experienced this? Is there an easy fix (registry, a setting somewhere, etc.)?
Bump. Anyone have any ideas? I'm also running S2U2 if that makes a difference. It doesn't have the problem while not running S2P though.
I was running that ROM for a little while on my Tilt with no issues like you're describing, have you Reflashed and reproduced the issue?
Just to make sure, you're trying to wake it up with the power button correct?
I have flashed a few times and it's a problem every time with various ROMs.
It seems to be a problem with S2U2. I don't lock the keys when the phone is asleep (using Settings/Personal/Keylock). Normally, S2U2 just wakes the phone up when I hit any of the hardware keys... just not when running S2P.
I can still wake the phone up with the Power key but my power button is messed up so it's hard to do it that way.
Hi, i've got a problem with the Home and Back buttons. Sometimes when i double-click the home button becomes locked and i have to lock and turn on the screen for it to work
Is this problem normal? I've got a screensave and i don't know if that can cause it
thanks

Take a look at what you installed prior to issue showing up, if it was the screensaver then remove the screensaver to see if the issue goes away. If it did then it is your cause, if not what else did you do the phone. Don't forget to reboot the phone after each step to clear out any caches or residual programs.
Is it possible to have the power button behaviour modified so that it only turns the screen off? I'm hoping there's a utility or setting somewhere.
When the phone is in my pocket it constantly turns itself on and starts tapping away. It never gets past the lockscreen but it's annoying to have battery drained like this.

Are you sure it is the power button and not rather the tap to wake that is activating it in your pocket? (Settings->Display->Tap to wake up)

I had the exact same problem. Tried the following things:
1) Changed the locker - used Nils Locker Master - worked well, but it stopped working with recent 5.0.2 update.
2) Used PIN lock - too inconvenient, and even then the emergency call button would get 'tapped' accidentally while in my pocket
3) Currently using a nice cover which raises the edges around the power button slightly, so it doesn't get pressed automatically anymore when in my pocket.

Thanks but it has been happening for a long time before I enabled tap to wake so that's not it.

Do you have a link for "Nils Locker Master"?
ATM I have pin lock and that's fine.
I prefer not to have any sort of cover/case.
