I am the proud owner of an Xperia X1
Its branded on UK Vodafone, I have been lurking and reading the posts on flashing the rom and removing the Vodafone barnding etc from the phone.
One quick question though, if I flash the rom will I lose any of the apps that I have installed on the phone?
If thats the case could someone recommend a good app to back all the software up to my pc before I flash it?
many thanks
Yes, you will lose all preinstalled applications and there's no easy way to back them up. They are however often available for download somewhere, look around the forums and you'll find most - if not all.

Hello,
sorry i'm a newbie so if the thread is in wrong room, please mod to move it..
i've just bought my G1 a month ago and until now it hasn't received the updates OTA.
after searching how to get the updates for a whole month, then i noticed that it might be my G1 has it automatic updates turned off.
this is because i've bought 2 G1(one for my GF),and she G1 got the updates, even it's already twice. and she got notification about the other applications' updates ready for download. while my G1 never get any notification for the applications..
so i assume my G1 automatic updates setting is turned off, however i can't figure it out how to turn it on..
so anyone can help me please tell me how to turn on the automatic updates..
my phone info:
G1
firmware version 1.0
baseband version 62.33.20.08H_1.22.12.29
kernel version 2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0 android [email protected] #6
build number kila-user 1.0 TC4-RC30 116143
thank you very much for the help
It sounds like you are not even using cupcake yet,
you could greatly benifit from a cynagon rom or the like.
also they are based off ADP1 so should be immune to the auto updates
But i want the new updates.. especially the emoticon.. there's no emoticon in the old version..
i'm new in this forum so i haven't read all the thread(maybe it will take forever>_<) but from what you said it seems that the cupcakes has many minus points..
But still i really want to send sms with emoticons>_<
how to remove this immune to automatic then..?
You can flash rc29 and wait to see if you get the update. But what the other poster was saying is just root your phone and go to one of the custom roms. You'll prolly be more happy doing that considering it has everything that the t mobile roms have plus more.
if i flash it,does it will get the android become factory reset?
okay then, i'll wait for this answer first,if the answer is no,then i'll flash it,but if the answer is yes. is there any way i can get the emoticons for the sms?
thx for the answer
First thing first: You don't know what you want.. automatic updates are NOT what you want as the provider takes over your phone. Root it and install updates manually.
search around for the official t-mobile cupcake update, should be posted somewhere on this forum. Flash that and you will probably start getting ota updates faster.
i just want to know one thing again..
when i flash my phone, will it be a restore default setting? because my phone isn't factory unlocked and i'll lose the phone function if i restore it to default-.-
please anyone can answer this and i'll thank you and close this thread^_^
pskay, after i read all over the forum,i know the update is not as good,so i'll try to root it,but please answer my Q so i won't be an idiot losing my phone>_<

I'm kinda confused what you just said. If your saying your phone is unlocked and want to know if you flash if your phone will become locked back to T-Mobile. If that is the question then your answer is it will still be unlocked. The sim unlock has nothing to do with it. You will be fine.
yups,you saw through me
thx very much for the answer..
i'll flash it right away
hi,
iam new to android and i bought htc explorer

if any one knows please write to my

thank you
At first hi, welcome to the XDA-community! Second, you are at the wrong place. This is the T-Mobile G1 section, but maybe I can help you. My opinion is taht you just stick to the orginal ROM, because it is a new handset with a good OS. BUT, if you still want to root your phone, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415223 Though rooting requires basic computering knowledge I give you 1 big caution:
Rooting your phone WILL void your warranty
As you have a new phone, you don't want to do that in case you let it fall and the screen is broken or such. This post does have a easy rooting method so it's dumbed up enough for beginners in rooting. Second step is getting a new ROM (OS, still android). The handset if fairly new, so there are not so many ROMs available. Just google around.
I hope this got you started!
Cheers and welcome to our community!
Hey guys/gals
I am seriously considering looking into putting ICS on my Note by using these forums and guides etc (I am a complete knowledgeless noob when it comes to this root/flash etc etc stuff), but I would like to know the following if someone would be kind enough to answer -
1- If I tamper with my device, and if said device ever has to go back to the network operator for repairs etc, how can I wipe everything and revert back to factory settings? is it as simple as hitting factory settings? I would not want them to refuse to service/repair/replace the device if I messed around with it. So is this reversible?
2- what is the best and most simplest way to put ICS on my n7000 if I chose to go down this route and not wait for my UK network operator (Orange) to release their own one? (maybe someone can link me to a good option?)
3- If the part 2 is done, should I get rid of it and use the operator version once they release? or stick with the one I am contemplating installing.
Sorry to be such a pain in the proverbial, would appreciate the help
Kind regards

I will try to answer in a short manner.
1. You can allways flash a stock GB or ICS no matter what you might have done to it. Atleast aslong as it is functioning properly.
2. In my opinion the best and simplest way is to flash a stock ICS through PC Oding. Here is a good guide and plenty of Stock Roms.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
3. I wouldnt get a operator version since they are usually even more bloated than samsungs stock version. And I dont see any benefits with a operator branded version.
Regards
Thank you Belfia,
I will consider this a little more, and it seems that I need to purchase a Micro SD to do all this? so that is next on my to-do list

Barry
Hi
I got the Xperia XZ1 Compact GO-02K Docomo. Can I flash G8441 firmware?
are you sure?
+1
did you find somethig
Its possible?
Does anyone know if this is possible?
I'm going to bump this, since I just got one of these phones (I'm in the US) and I want to get rid of all the Docomo junk and maybe go to a nice ROM.
Edit: I just found out that (unsurprisingly) the phone says that it is unable to have the bootloader unlocked. Is there a way to circumvent this? I've seen mentioned elsewhere that I still may be alble to root.
Hi,
I've got one of these too, and I'm trying to switch to a customized G8441 rom. I can't flash it with newflasher , i've got this error:
- Uploading signature C:\Users\USER\.flashTool\firmwares\Downloads\G8441_Customized FR_1310-8853_47.2.A.11.228_R4C\partition\partitionimage_0.cms
signature:0000053c
Error, didn't got signature OKAY reply! Got reply: FAILFailed to verify cms
I dont know what it mean and i don't want to modify some firmware files to brick my phone.
I've read XZ1 JAPAN (SOV36) can be switched to global (G8431), so I assume it's possible too for XZ1 compact (SO_02k and G8441) because there are identical hardware.

Thanks for posting, I'd really like to get this working. The SO-02Ks are fairly cheap and easy to get on ebay compared to the G8441, at least in the US so there would be significant value in finding a solution.
At this point I've lowered my standards from wanting to put a ROM on it, to just rooting so I can remove Docomo bloatware, to now where I'd just be happy being able to flash some US firmware onto the thing so I can at least send MMS messages.
I've got a brand new one for 230$ instead of 400$ for the global version, yes it's really cheap
You don't need root to remove bloatware, just read this guide.
But if you really want root (temporary only), you can flash rom 47.1.f.1.105 (android 8.0.0 ) and follow that . I did it but go back to 9.0.0 because camera wasnt working (something about drm key I think but I don't know that much about smartphone).
The only thing annoying is camera shutter sound I can't disable now.
Here is a bloatware list, just chekck if you need or not some app.

Thanks for the bloatware uninstall stuff, that's fantastic! I gave up on rooting because I didn't want to go back to 8 and have DRM key issues. I do really need to get MMS working on this phone though, and as far as I can tell, it needs US firmware to be able to do that.
Have any of you read this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1/help/xz1-sov36-t3916251
Hi, this isnt for compact xz1 (so-02k). I'va already tried and newflasher wont let me use global rom because of différent signature.
Has anyone found a way around the MMS messages being blocked on the SO-02K? Unlike what other's have said, using a different app like the google app does not solve the problem. I get an "MMS not available on network" message when I try to send something (regardless of whether the phone is on a network or not when I try to send it) and I cannot receive group messages. SMS works fine. This is really my only issue with this phone right now, so if anyone has any idea of why this might be the case we might be able to look for a way to circumvent it.

The point is have you read it and tried anything from it? Those with the device need to try any and all suggestions.
Yes, I've already read this topic, but I can't even flash my phone with global rom, newflasher doesn't allow it and I didn't found someone who success to.
Those with XZ1 (sov36) are not facing this issue and can flash global or JP rom.
Try an older version of Newflasher, a different rom, or try flashing different sin files to see if that gets you any further.
I've tried three différent version and many roms.
I dont want to modify sin files because I dont want to brick my Phone, I'm not confident enough?
I'll deal whith jpn rom, I'm fine with it actually.

You don't need to modify them, you just need to flash them.
I dont get it, how am i supposed to do this? Replace sin files from global firmware by japanese ones? Is there a risk to brick my phone?

Replace Japanese ones with global. Have you tried flashing a global kernel first with fasboot and then the software. The chance of bricking your phone from flashing FW is slim to next to none.

Yes I've tried with flashboot, but SO-02K is missing from device list and when I select G8441 with global or jpn firmware, it doesnt work.
Yeah, it's kind of a stupid question but I really need help to understand some things before doing anything and turning my phone into a paperweight. It's my first thread so I really hope you can help me with it
I'm from colombia btw.
Have to advice that english is not my first language so if you see any grammatical error it's probably that.
So; I've been investigating why my phone is still waiting for the miui 12.0.7.0 update since it's been stuck on miui 11.0.9.0 since a while, tried installing Every possible rom of the official site and that didn't worked. So I started to investigate and found that my phone has a custom rom installed by the business that selled me the phone; and that rom won't be updated anymore since that business is really lazy with that type of updates (I had phones by them in the past that just didn't updated at all since all the time I had them).
And now I'm wanting to change that rom to the official one (The Global One).
I've already started the bootloader unlock and I'm waiting right now for the 168 hours to be able to unlock it, but I've got some questions that i really need to get answered before I can start doing anything.
So let's start with this, ok?
Right, so my first doubt comes about the roms. Right now my phone has a Custom Rom made by "Claro" (also known as telcel on latam) and that custom rom is literally locking any update that comes from the global xiaomi updater; and it wouldn't be that bad if the phone wouldn't reset with A LOT of preinstalled apps and a custom logo for the startup that lags the phone even when starting up.
I would be able to change that custom rom from my phone into the official one without many complications?, I've been looking for some programs and it seems that Xiaomi Flash Tool and XiaoMiTool_V2 were some of my options (for not saying the only ones), and I would like to know your opinion about them and what of those two would you recommend me.
Both of the roms (the official one and the custom one) are "Global" so i would like to know if that would affect (or improve) anything at all.
My second doubt comes mostly on the unlocked bootloader, since what I had readed about it can actually block you from opening apps (like Netflix) and I wanted to know if it could be possible to lock it again since i'm installing the global one.
Have to clarify that it is a Redmi Note 9 with 128GB ROM and 4GB RAM, it's almost new (has like 2 weeks or so) and is currently running MIUI 11.0.9.0.
if you need anymore info or pictures I would be glad to give it to you if you can help me with my doubts.
Certainly, unlocking the bootloader is your best chance.
Unlock it first and then, flash the any other rom you want.
If you want, you can relock the bootloader again too.
