TCPMP

Hi,
I have a question about TCPMP, without a doubt it is the best media player for Pocket PC.
I have not used TCPMP before
After searched the web, I found the official website:
http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about
And it has been discontinued ...
The commercial one is CorePlayer ...
How is it compared? TCPMP vs CorePlayer ...
I meant, is there any much different in performance, file format support, etc?
Anyone is using CorePlayer?
I am thinking of purchasing CorePlayer, but if it is not that much different compared to TCPMP, then better not.
Thanks for any feedback
I believe TCPMP is way much superior and has more options IMHO.
I tried CorePlayer when it was released as a commercial product.. and was not really impressed
the GUI of CorePlayer however is nicer.
TCPMP has larger community which support it and continue to release plug-ins and codecs on a regular basis
for instance you can watch Youtube videos using TCPMP, but I'm not sure if CorePlayer can do that...
maybe because I have been using TCPMP since it's first days, I like it that much... but Franky it's a great utility.. and above all it's free
cheers
Hi duke,
Thanks for your feedback. Where can I download the latest version of TCPMP and all its plugins?
And which forum is the best community support for TCPMP?

How do you set your equalizer?
FYI
Read this for Kaiser:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1540060#post1540060
Thanks,
I just want to know how do you set the equalizer ... currently it is still default.
Which hz should be set to left ... and which one to right?
To get a better audio quality ...
My reply was about tcpmp on kaiser in general, about the equalizer... i have no idea how to get a better sound... i know bass is left and treble is right...

CorePlayer Mobile v1.1.x Qtv Edition (for Tilt / Kaiser Owners) released ...

Hi Guys,
CoreCodec has released a pre-update of CorePlayer that should fix most of the video playback issues on our devices ...
Can someone who is authorized to download the update confirm that it works smooothly with htc Kaiser ?
All owners of CorePlayer 1.x should be able to update for free ...
The Link to the thread in CoreCodec board is here :

I just downloaded it on my Touch. So far with the one file i actually had on my Touch the QTV driver shows the video with a black screen. The file plays when I have GDI. I was assuming the Touch may use the same QTV driver. But I think I remember somewhere that BetaBoy wrote that this was for Mpeg4 files only. So i'll look. I was able to run a bench mark using the GDI and QTV settings though. QTV did about 10% higher on this small file.
Hum... I'm currently testing it with a 640x340 xvid file and it seems pretty fluid. Don't really know if I'd say the playback is flawless.
Hi,
Thanks for sharing this news.
I downloaded and installed on my Kaiser.
It feels like my device is much more responsive now!
Also the Touchscreen feels more responsive!
THIS FEELS GOOD
Am I grazy and the only one or what?
Regards,
Leo
Uhm, why would this make the touchscreen more responsive?
You tell me...
It does!

Please send a sample of the video via www.yousendit.com to [email protected] so we can take a look at it... thx!!
FYI.... also the speed difference will ONLY be available within CorePlayer itelf when playing back ANY video (not just ASP). Although ASP plays pretty damn flawless based on the early feedback.

Beta Boy it turns out it isn't the file. I even tried a couple of different mpeg 4 files encoded at 640x480. They play fine if I have it set to GDI but the second I put QTV on it plays black and the player becomes unresponsive. Now I do have the Vogue Touch which uses the CDMA verison of the Kaiser chipset. The case might be that the changes that were made to core media work on the kaiser only so far.
So theoretically, this proggy should play the videos fine, and utilize the unused hardware?
Is there a demo of this bychance, that we can test on our devices. I would gladly get the software if I could see that it works on my phone.

Even though my touch can't take advantage of the QTV driver. I do have to admit. This is a real clean player. I've only used the beta's before for youtube, but really like this version leaps and bounds beyond even windows media player. Looks like I gotta relink all my sprint links to go to this player instead of Windows Media. I have to admit this version plays videos better than the others did even in GDI mode.
It's a great program. Hopefully there is something small missing for the Vogue to work with the QTV video mode, but for now in GDI mode it's still leaps and bounds above what I had before. Now gotta figure out how to get youtube to work with this.
you know, both you guys at XDA-Dev as well as the CoreCodec people seem to be trustworthy enough. I'm currently RMAing my cracked phone. So I'll lurk this topic to see if its worked on other peoples phones. If the results seem positive. Then It'll be the first bit of software i install on the new Tilt that'll come in.
beta_boy--Thanks
Hi beta_boy,
Because of your support for our issues, I purchased CorePlayer for our device , but am a vid newb, so having issues, I'll check out the forums on your site.

Post a bit more info please.
Compare different video files in format/bitrate you have already tried without changing anything else on your device. Subjective will do for the moment as most on here will only be happy with a 'visual' improvement as benchmark figures are no substitute for 'bloody great improvement' !!
Need to know this info (drooling at the mouth at the moment!!)
Many thanks.
Just downloaded it. Looked at two different movies, one in MP4 and one in M4V format. Subjectively they look better, playback was smooth as was motion. Hard to quantify of course (and there is likely a placebo effect)e but overall I'd say it's an improvement.
edit nevermind

htc tilt vs n95 8gig

what do u guys think about these two phones whos better? or whats better?
imho it all comes down to what 3th party programs one want
tilt, if only the video drivers were included.
They're fully incomparable.
1. If you need MUCH better audio / quality (!) A2DP / video / MUCH better camera / MUCH better, 3D accelerated gaming / being lightweight (!!!), get the Nokia. It's way better in these respects.
2. If you DO know you MUST have Windows Mobile and don't want to play / the low-quality A2DP and the considerably higher weight isn't a problem (that is, you're looking for a "strictly" business machine with almost non-existing entertainment capabilities), get the Kaiser.
BTW, there is another, relate dthread of the same subject in this forum; use the forum search engine.
*pops his head round the corner*
My Kaiser provides me with more than enough entertainment, I watch films, listen to music through my bluetooth headphones, and browse the net. It also has the "wow" factor compared to other phones/Pda's (even if features of it don't run as well as other phones/pda's)

List here what exactly you want to do and I tell you which of the two you should get. It's mostly about entertainment / camera / weight vs. built-in keyboard / Windows Mobile / touchscreen.

Personally, I prefer the N95 over the Kaiser because I love the unmatched multimedia features, the flawless answering machine / call recording (which the Kaiser miserably fails to deliver), gaming capabilities (3D hardware accelerator!) and the camera (and, I also have other Windows Mobile devices, should I need to use Windows Mobile for some reason). The crippled multimedia / gaming, bad camera and, as far as using the phone is concerned, the lack of call recording support of the Kaiser are a showstopper for me.
HOWEVER, if you DO know you absolutely MUST have a touchscreen or Windows Mobile, you should go the Kaiser route.

pocketpc have been an active platform for way longer then there was anything called symbian or anything called java at all
of cause it all comes down to what programs one needs but i dare say that there are more pocketpc arm based applications developed then symbian or java apps for phones
I would have a hard time dealing with no touch screen. I got used to graphite writing back in the palm days and it would be hard to do without, especially losing both that and the qwerty keyboard. I have had one other symbian phone too and was not thrilled with either the UI or the 3rd party program selection. I think it has gotten much better since though. I actaully have been keeping my eye on if the Sony W960i is going to make it stateside, but it isn't looking good.
I am most hopeful for the iMate 9502, but may wind up with the LG KS20, once it comes down to a reasonable price (and actually starts shipping??).
What about the MWg Atom Life Windows Mobile 6 Edition. Anyone know anything about this? Looks like No GPS or BT though.

Ummm... I don't know what you're talking about - my kaiser is a freaking entertainment facility. I have excellent GPS, about 20-25 great games that I love to cut my spare time with, I watch movies when I'm in traffic, I watch Discovery channel on it, with new camera app I take excellent movies (even at night, in Las Vegas I filmed a great movie about dancing fountains) and photos.. When I go fishing, I play music for me and my friends over the speakerphone...
That's only etnertainment.. I'm not even talking about amazing upgradability and customization of Windows Mobile. And the fact that it fully syncs with Outlook, and trust me - I was an Outlook hater about 5 years ago. Outlook 2007 is amazing and I love it.
I mean what else do you need from the PPC? To have hot sex with you?

Which games do you play? I bought the Kaiser thinking I would get to play some SNES games on it as a bonus, but I was greatly dissapointed in that matter.
Well, I wonder how you got you Kaiser to film at night. I tried to film some new years fireworks and that filming went terribly bad. You can count the average fps just by watching it ( like 1/2frames every second). Every other phone/camera there filmed at least a regular movie.
The speakerphone crakles all the time, I can't really appreciate music through it.
The N95 series is great minus the build quality.
I prefer the Kaiser overall because it's a better PDA, but they are still very different.

Here's some cool games that run perfectly on Kaiser:
MoreGames Legends of Orions (with addon)
MoreGames Nanobotz (both games have very cool graphics)
Arcades Collection (about 5-6 games)
Bubble Shooter (don't confuse with bubble breaker)
Doom
Contra
Palm Heroes
Pocket Transport Tycoon Deluxe (free and have awesome graphics)
Pocket Hexen
Pocker Challenge
Pool Challenge
Rats
Tomb Raider (plays like a charm)
Wolfenstein 3D (no problems whatsoever, insane FPS)
Age of Empires (works perfectly, very high FPS)
you just have to look for it. Some games won't run well on Kaiser even with drivers.

I don't know what to say - It's been at night (around 11 or so), on the street, only light was the hotel in the far back, and some lighted fountains in the foreground. I can't count the FPS, but I can estimate it to be around 25-30. I can upload the video once I cut it, as it is - it's 11MB (about 5 minutes long).

Dunno what to say either, I had Wizard before this, and although Wizard's speakerphone was just insane (best one I've heard), Kaiser's is not that bad at all.
Wouldn't a better comparison be between the HTC Kaiser/Tilt and Nokia E90..? Those are the flagship enterprise communicators for each company.
I've cut that video to a smaller size and uploaded several of them.

Should video issue stop me buying Kaiser/Polaris

Hi everyone,
I've been using my Universal (O2 Exec) for a few years now and think its great.
I do watch quite a lot of video on it, as does my 1 year old !!!
I was trying to decide either to upgrade to a Stellar (Kaiser) or Orbit2 (Polaris) but hearing about the video issues has put me off.
My only prob with the Exec is its size (not that it has got bigger since I purchased!)
Any thoughts or alternative devices with similar specs to those 2 above would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam
Maybe I should have said I'm using Pocket DivX Encoder to enocde to avi and BetaPlayer to play (never got round to updating to TCMP)
Sam
Firstly, there are no driver issues with the TyTN II.
Secondly I have had my TyTN II (Kaiser) now for 3 months with no major issues at all.
I watch movies on my device regularly. Just make sure that they are encoded for QVGA and you're fine. I use PocketDIVXencoder and TCPMP but now I use CorePlayer and it's much better.
I watch Youtube videos which I download. Just make sure you have the FLV plugin for TCPMP and you're away. I watch many music videos this way.
Honestly, go ahead and get the TyTN II with a good Mugen 3000 mAh battery.
There very clearly are driver issues with the Tytn II - or at the very least, video performance is well below the expectations of many users (particularly those with experience of previous devices) - hence the Class Action thread and many hundreds if not thousands of complaints all over the web.
I like my Tytn II, I think its a very good device, but then I don't watch much video and I'm not really bothered about its quality. When I do watch it, or use the camera, I generally do notice the poor performance. Despite the 400mhz processor and general snappiness elsewhere, this device does struggle to display fluid video without jumping frames and "tearing" across the picture.
If you're used to watching a lot of video the Tytn II (or any of HTC's other Qualcomm 7200-based handsets like the Polaris etc) almost certainly will dissapoint, and you'll end up pining for your Exec instead. You'd be better off to wait either for the supposed fix from HTC - which was supposed to have been released in March but has now gone extremely quiet - or another model altogether.
As I said, this is coming from someone who's owned a Tytn II for five months and is generally very happy with it.

I will second this comment to the T. Love my phone...wish they would fix drivers...but don't do a ton of multimedia with it.
Since you're using an O2 Exec I'm assuming your in a Triband area. Why not consider the HTC P6300? I would if I could do triband. I'm all for the larger screen and especially if you watch a lot of video on it. I also think that uses the Samsung 400 chipset which does video better I believe. You can however get video playing "good" on a Kaiser/Polaris but you have to jump through a lot of hoops to find that sweet spot of codec/bitrate/player happiness. I think TCPMP .81 does video pretty decent. I think a lot of it has to do with how you initially have encoded the video for your phone. But without any tweaking the video playback especially in Windows Media Player can be pretty bad.
I have no problems with my TyTn II, i bought one from o2 a couple weeks back, i use TCPMP to play videos and its worked flawlessly...
Its fast enough, i watch alot of videos via HSDPA and have no problems at all, not too sure what people are moaning about
if you had a previous capable pda (eg: htc hermes/TyTN) then the video issue will be a problem for you.

Zune HD or Zii?

Spent too long and tried to much to try and get videos working properly on my xperia so i decided if i want to watch videos i should buy a proper video player.
But i cant decide between the Zune HD and the Zii?
i assume both will have Dedicated video converter applications
Sony couldnt even tell me which codec or how to put vids on my xperia at all so they sucked.
I cant decide though, Zii or Zune HD?
Zune-hd hands down. Get it.
On the Zune you wouldn't have to worry about an encoding app, since the the zune's chipset has the encoders and codecs built-in. So you could copy over mp4's and it should encode it when it goes to your device from ur comp..and it will down scale an HD video to your screen size. Its just a matter if u want to save space or not. The zune's OS and interface would be much better and solid than anything the zii will currently have..though the zii has more mini pc like functions and seems to be more of a open device..but since the zune is windows..it should support more video formats..and be more compatible with other devices like TV's and your computer, out of the box. The zune has the software and hardware, to do stuff you cant do on a current devices. The zii is more of a enhanced version of something thats already out there..though it still has potential in the future..it seems the zunehd is the future. So I'd either get the zune or wait for a Zii like device that has the the zune's insides with more of a mini pc design, with either a more open windows OS, or a mature android OS.
ARGH! I'm soo pissed at microsoft for not making the Zune HD into a phone! It would be freaking perfect! Add winmo7 to it and BAM! It's perfect! >.> Hopefully the Zune HD 2 shall be a phone with Winmo7.
Hmm yea i think i will go for zune HD although i will wait a bit for some decent reviews once they have both been released
HD!
The ZuneHD definitely! It is the first device to run the Nvidia Tegra, it has a separate processor for each action ie: video, game, music, photos... It is the future of mobile technology!...plus it looks more SOLID
I'm looking to get a Zune HD myself!
just buy core player it has played every video flawlessly on every device i have ever owned.
I dunno the Zii seems interesting with its implementation of Android as well as its "almost-phone" experience just as the iPod touch works. The Zune HD is also drool worthy adn Samsung seem to be working on an "Omnia minus phone" I believe. If the Zune HD doesn't get the Zune software to be far different from before, then I will likely try the Zii eevn though it'll be a lil' more expensive than the Zune HD I think.
Shouldn't really be asking a ? with an answer but Zune still Creative and just M$ putting there name on it? If so then Creative is an absoulutely amazing company and not just when it comes to Audio where there the top market Video aswell thesedays, i have a Zune it's only 4GB but kicks a** for portable movie player.

yea i currently also have a Mozaic Zen and its a awesome little device with OLED screen etc
I'd take the Zii, but if the Zune HD is anything like the Xbox360 experience, it could be worth it too. The Linux-based Zii is interesting too.
But what MS product doesn't look good on paper?
i dont understand why they are only giving it a 480x272 res tho even with tegra?
Yeah I think a 640x360 like on the Nokia 5800 would have been excellent. But the resolution is still good if my Samsung P2 is to be a reference.

If you encode a movie to the ipod's screen size, but choose to keep its aspect ratio, the video will be 480x 270..pretty much the zuneHD screens resolution. You can zoom in on the touch but your cutting off the image. So with the ipod touch in-order to see the full image of the video u have deal with the black bars on the 3:2 wide screen. The zuneHD on the other hand... has a screen thats more suited for watching wide screen videos and doesn't have to stretch the image at all..easily down scaling HD videos perfectly to the screens res..and since its 16:9, so it wont have to mess with the aspect ratio either..so viewing videos on the zune= FTW your right about the making the zuneHD cheaper but its OLED, so I'm sure they chose that over a larger but stardard lcd..it probably evens its self out in cost. Though I havent seen any smaller screen devices with this screens resolution.. thats has this quality.
Yeah MS needs to make this damn thing a phone and give it both US 3G bands.
The Zune HD looks so slick and modern. I prefer HD to Zii. And although Zii is called iPod touch killer, but it still seems it committed to ...
