I'm going to start by saying I'm an ATT customer using an ATT Tilt. I updated to Ansars ROM about a month/month and a half ago I think and I had issues with my connection. I've seen switched to the PDACorner ROM and the issues I've had are not resolved.
I cannot maintain a good HSDPA connection. Very rarely I will get a good HSDPA connection which I can use data and voice just fine, but most of the time, when I get an H connection and I try to use either data or voice, it will try to connect or will be attempting to start dialing. After about 15 seconds it gives up and the connection is completely cut. As in the phone says no service. Eventually it will reconnect and the issue repeats. As to whether or not it works, it's completely random as far as I know. The only way I have a reliable connection is to force it to stay on GSM, which I'm not too keen on. If anyone has any solutions or needs additional information to provide help, it would be much appreciated.
Try a different Radio ROM, see if that helps.
Try one of the newer (emo) ones.
Well, I tried all of the kaiser ROMs listed on the front page and niether of them resolved the issue, so I tried reverting back to the latest HTC rom with the built in radio. I've been using this phone for the past few days and I think the issue is tower specific. There are times I'm at home and I get 4 or 5 bars of H and it's fine. But when it is failing, the # of bars are always at 2 bars. And this suddenly changes even though the phone may not have moved at all.
But when I'm out at work, I leave my phone in the car and it seems fine when I'm there. Then as I approach, it eventually craps out again. Furthermore, when I reset the phone at home, I usually have about time to make one call, but then if I end that call and try to start another, it then fails. Could this stil be a radio issue, ROM issue, or an issue with AT&T?
Same problem as mine

This is exactly the same problem I posted here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393182&page=80 ) but nobody could help me. I strongly believe that is a problem of hardware calibration in your phone and mine, because I have not seen any other case as this in this forum. I remember that in cell phones, years ago, thinks like this happened and only a hardware radio calibration/repair could fixed them. I will post any solution (including a possible call to HTC technical support).
No 3G connection
After further research I found that the Kaiser has two antennae, one for GSM an one for UMTS. If this one is damaged the phone only will work on GSM band. This could explain that the phone, when in Auto Mode, loss the signal but works OK on GSM. I also found a web page devoted to hardware problems where you can find the service manuals of most of the HTC phones including TyTN II: www.mikechannon.net . Nevertheless, be aware that by working in the hardware you may void the warranty, if it is already valid.
I'm not entirely sure if it's my UMTS. I only really notice it when home (and one trip down to DC a while ago now that I think about it). But I know I have had it functioning completely normally before. Though I admit it has had a few hits here and there. But please let me know your results, I'm definitely interested.
Maybe its ATT
I have had similar problems, first when using an Opal build of HyperDragon and then when using the official ATT 6.1 ROM. It got so bad I even had ATT send mne a new handset. Then I found out that ATT was having "issues" with the tower nearest my house. Now the problem has just as mysteriously goe away, and I have done nothing to my hand set to correct the issue.
I have since gone to a very late (and nice!) build of HD-III and it till works great. This leaves me to suspect that our wonderful carrier is the culprit.
I used the PDACorner build and had no issues, but it's even better on the HyperDragon III Raphael build. I can keep an active HSDPA connection all day.
So I ran a test. Last night I kicked up IM+ on my phone with an AIM connection and it connected and stayed connected for somewhere in the realm of 3 minutes... tops. So today I checked my phone before I got out of the car and kicked up IM+ again. Connected right away and I left it open while at work. Well, 9 and a half hours later when I go back to the car, I check the phone and it's still connected. No issues. This makes me thinks this is an ATT tower specific issue.
Addendum: just tried with HSDPA disabled, so just 3g and the same problem
Looks like this may be a SIM issue. I swapped SIMS with my gf and her phone (samsung A727) with my SIM got 3g fine. Her sim in my phone was fine, even HSDPA. Though I should admin, I didn't test a 3g connection that long since she doesn't have a data plan. But even when I swapped my sim back and started IM+ again it couldn't even connection at all. You may want to look into this too.
HTC-USA solved my problem of not connection to 3G network
I owned this information to this forum:
After many workarounds and trials/errors, I called to HTC-US explaining my problem with my TyTN II.
They worked in following way:
1. I sent them, to my cost, the phone (they asked to send only the phone without battery, back cover and SIM)
2. They took in deposit the information of my credit card just in case they needed to use it for a payment if the repair is out of the warranty. If this were the case they would inform me the amount and I had to decide to make the repair and pay the charge or not to make it.
They told me that they had to change the phone main board: I believe that everyone who has a similar problem like mine (bad or not connection to the 3G network and sluggish touch screen) should contact HTC-US to Customer Care Department, 1-888-617-1113, M-F 9AM - 6PM EST.
In my case the phone was in warranty (although I flashed the Hard SPL in the phone, but the hardware was untouched). Therefore, I had to pay…zero. And they returned my phone in just 4 business days.
My phone is working very good, always connected showing an H indicating the use of a HSDPA network.
The cost of the solution was $ 20 by the FedEx service to send them the phone. Good deal.
You see... This is why I love XDA-dev... There's all manner of interesting stuff on here...
I've been having similar strange issues with data (particularly HSDPA) on my Kaiser lately...
It's doubly-intersting there are separate antennae for GSM and UMTS. That would fit my situation perfectly...
My Kaiser had worked perfectly (albeit slowly) from day one for between six and nine months into ownership. Recently I noticed ActiveSync wasn't hitting my exchange server. Initially I thought it was just a network 'glitch' and that a Soft Reset and/or a few more miles into my drive would get things playing-ball again. Unfortunately neither worked.
The problem seemed to be that the handset would acknowledge the availability of HSDPA, try to connect, fail, the signal would then drop off completely. Next the phone found signal again, found GPRS, then HSDPA and would repeat the process. It didn't seem to even attempt to use a GPRS connection instead. I tried to connect in various locations thinking that there was something odd happening with my local cell site. Results were much the same.
The following day I was still having the same problem, and after ActiveSync picking up email once (in an area where the phone could ONLY find GPRS) but not again for some time, I called T-Mobile UK's customer support folks thinking that there might be an issue with their data backbone.
The first two people I spoke to were drones - they took the post codes I was in when having problems, punched it into their rather pessimistic coverage database (funny how the sales department one is quite optimistic) and explained that I shouldn't expect HSDPA in these locations. COMPLETELY sidestepping the points that a) I OFTEN spent time in these locations with the Kaiser tethered to my laptop enjoying decent HSDPA, and b) the handset was pretty convinced it was available, but wouldn't connect - nor was it failing to find HSDPA and 'falling back' to GPRS.
The second of the drones was slightly better in so much as she suggested I switch network to GSM (from Auto) in the phone settings. ActiveSync was then able to connect; I was quite impressed with a bit of progress being made, but that was quickly replaced with disappointment as she then continued to say that I should always switch it manually in areas where HSDPA wasn't available/working. I protested somewhat that this was a new thing, as the phone had previously always connected via the best available medium; this fell on deaf ears and the call came to an end not really any closer to a solution.
It was on the third call to T-Mobile that I happened to get through to a chap who is possibly the best customer-facing tech guy they've got. He instantly identified that I'm a geek and was happy to talk to me in those terms.
(I'm not sure whether I should post his name here or not, if he makes too many customers happy I'm sure he'll be promoted away from his position where he's potentially a great help to us!)
Again he took the post codes I'd been in when experiencing problems, but instead of palming me off with the signal coverage nonsense, listened to my description of what was safe to describe as 'normal' service in these locations, and how the current situation differed. He then started to examine the historical HSDPA Retainability figures for each mast relevant to the post codes I'd given him.
He explained that T-Mobile aim at a minimum of 98% HSDPA Retainability from their masts, if the figures for a given day drop below that level they expect connectivity issues and will normally send a field tech to investigate/repair. Most of the masts in my area had been performing in the low to mid 80s over the past few days. It started to sound like the problem was becoming apparent...
So, I was politely asked to try to log some details (signal strength, location (post code), time (as close to exact minute as possible), and any unusual behaviour) on five occassions, at least an hour apart over a 24 hour period so that he could escalate the issue with the back office team. I agreed to do this (and he was quite surprised at that - but the way I see it I might as well try to help fix the thing as much as possible, being obstructive and giving it the 'No! I pay you for it to work!" rant wouldn't help anyone).
Anyway, I started to make quite a detailed log of issues I was having; but in doing this I dug out one of my old Hermes and each time the Kaiser failed, the Hermes succeeded. Obviously it doesn't take herr Einstein to figure out this was now looking like a handset fault. I tried a Hard Reset on the Kaiser (just in case - I hadn't installed anything for months anyway), but that failed, so it's looking pretty concrete its a hardware issue.
I guess something's happened to the UMTS antenna in the handset, we'll find out in due course as it's about to go in for repair...

Rob.

Believe me. It is the only way to fix the problem. Your problem is exactly as my problem was. After sending my phone to HTC I have a normal working UMTS PDA.
I started having this problem back in November. I found that by enabling the band tab, and switching from Auto to GSM the everything worked fine, but at edge speeds. I called into AT&T customer service, and we tried swapping sims between phones etc. - it wasn't the SIM. I was told that AT&T did some Network upgrades in my area, and the Rep suggested that I switch to WME 6.1. I thought I'd try swapping radios first, so read a great deal in the AllTheWay's Ultimate Radio thread. Well, I never did change my radio, I found the problem went away after I upgraded the HardSPL in my TILT. I was on OliPof's SPL-1.0, and moved up to JockyW's 3.29 found here:

I seem to be having a similar problem w/ my tilt as well since around the 28th of Jan. My phone will show 3-4 bars of signal on HSDPA but sometimes will not connect to the internet, also it will not receive incoming calls even tho it is showing that it has signal. Have tried setting the tilt to only use 3g, get the same results, it will show it has signal but wont be connected to the network (no incoming calls, if I try to make a outgoing it will fail).
Soft resets will get the phone working again sometimes, it seems to be somewhat random far as I can tell because I tried the phone a few days ago and it was showing 3 bars of signal +/- 1 as I was moving around the house but was not receiving calls yet again, then all of a sudden must have got connected (showed new voice mail messages and downloaded new emails)
Anyone else have any ideas? I love the tilt but its worthless to me if its not reliable, I may try flashing a diffrent rom and radio to it and hope that fixes it...

Rom is 3.5 dutty's and JockyW's 3.29 HARDSpl
Edit: Oh btw I am in the central MD area as well so it does make me wonder if it is ATT related problem and not the phone
Just a follow up - my updating HardSPL versions did not permanently fix the problem. Not sure, but it may have come back after I re-enabled HSDPA using Kaiser Tweak, although I had also changed the disconnect after settings in the Data section too. I'll continue to play and post back if I find something solid. Unfortunately, my phone is out of warranty, so getting a new handset isn't an option. One thing I do know, prior to local tower 'upgrades' by at&t, my 3G and H data connections worked great, and I never had the occasional issue I have now of not being able to call out with out a soft reset, or turning the phone off and on.

i used to have connection issues until i removed hidden proxies
My Tilt started acting up on 3G last night here, but I'm still not sure if it's just a simple network issue or a problem with my phone, as it's not that different from when the iPhone first hit and 3G got swamped.
I was using 3G fine last night, no problems. Running TrackMe, and messing with Google Maps a bit. Then everything stalled, had to kill Google Maps, noticed TrackMe couldn't upload. So I toggled the radio as that usually fixes this sort of thing, it gets a 3G signal, but when I connect to the network it can't connect to anything. I can make phone calls, haven't checked receiving them yet, signal strengths all look fine, it just won't do any data. If I turn off 3G, it connects and transfers data just fine.
If this doesn't go away today, I'm going to get more worried. I can use it on Edge I suppose, but damn it's slow.

Well, I tried a hard reset, removed the hidden proxies still will not work on 3G HSDPA. Next step is trying a different radio/rom but I do not see how that would "fix" this thing but, I am running out of ideas of what to try and really would like the HSDPA usable for tethering to my new netbook...

I'm not sure what it is, but for some reason some of the programs are not connecting to the internet on my tilt. i'm running the q-mobile tilt rom, and the only thing that is connecting to the medianet is palringo. i can't access the new w/ windows live or internet explorer. any idea what it could be?
no ideas from anyone...i know they're a boat load of phone-tech savy people here, someone has to have some kind of idea?

Hi dude
more info plz!! I didn't well undertand your problem!
Are you trying to connect by your Pravider Data Connection (GPRS/HSDPA) or by WiFi??!!
sorry, i guess i didn't say that. i did say medianet, but i sure have been a little more concise. but yes, i'm trying to connect through att wireless medianet. the weird thing is, i am connected because i am able to go online with palringo and talk w/ contacts on aim, but IE doesn't work, windows live doesn't work either. i went through and changed some of the settings in media net per attwireless support forum, i'm looking for the proxy cab to download as it isn't on my phone, this could be the fix for it...but i highly doubt it because the internet was working on my phone just fine for the first week or so after i installed my ROM. now it just wont connect anymore, and i know i didn't do anything except uninstall solitaire and a few other games
ok...not much progress, but i guess this is a start. instead of getting an error message when i try to open a page w/ IE, in the status bar it says "Locating..." "Opening...", "0 Kb"...then it just stops, and nothing loads up. I'm stumped

First of all sorry, but i'm not American, so correct me if i'm wrong: "ATT Wireless" is your Phone Provider, right? and you are trying to connect to internet using the Provider Data Connection and not Wi-Fi, e.g. through your home router (Wi-Fi = Wireless but not "ATT Wireless", names coincidence!!! ), right? if this is correct, you didn't answer me to the above-mentioned question (using Provider Data or Wi-Fi??)!!
So try to set this Windows options:
Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections -> Advanced Tab -> Networks Selection -> than select in the two options your Internet Provider service, more ,if you need, under the both tweak keys you can edit it, like proxy settings!
Hope to well undertand your problem!
Umm...i did answer your question, i did say it was attwireless. I'm guessing you're not familiar with NA cell phone providers, which i'm sorry we missed, but i did answer the question. No need for the rolling of eyes. But yes, as i said in some posts earlier, i did change those settings already as per the attwireless support forum on their website. But its still not working.

However give a look here , maybe it helps you!
Ciao
its ok, no problem at all. thanx for the link but that didnt' work either.i really dont know whats going on with my phone, the internet worked flawlessly for the first 2 weeks i had my phone, then it just stopped working yesterday. well, it stopped working for every other program except for palringo, and i'm almost certain that it is not sms based, so i dont understand why that would work, and not other programs.
UPDATE:
ok, so i tried using the media new gprs connection with my 8125, same situation. i'm not sure what on earth it could be, but w/e it is, i can use palingro and aim pocket pc on my tilt, but i just can't get any data from web or anything else. go figure. i think i'm just gonna let give it up for the day, i've been working on it for 8 hours. maybe take a look at it again this weekend, i dont HAVE to have the net until monday, but even then i can still use wifi until i get this sorted out.
ok, so it looks like just about everything is working now on my phone except internet explorer while connected to the AT&T wireless EDGE/3G connection. I can download the maps while connected to Windows Live GPS, i'm able to sign on and chat while using agile messenger, i can download emails on the go with my outlook mailbox.
The only thing that is giving me a problem still is internet explorer/opera mobile. Anytime i type in a page it says "locating...", "opening..." "0 KB" while using IE then it just stops there and doesn't load a thing, and when using opera is says no connection detected. Anybody know what this could be? I dont see anywhere in IE or opera where you can change browser settings as far as connectivity...
very similar problem
Hi,
I'm having a very similar problem. I have an HTC TYTN II unlocked. It has worked beautifully for a couple of months and suddenly PIE would not work. It says Connecting...Locating...Opening and then hangs in there for a while until it error outs with "the connection has been lost"
I'm on T-Mobile full internet plan. The ROM is original stock ROM (UK). Curiously, the "push" emails continues to work, but PIE does not. I can't login to Live messenger either.
I have reset the phone to factory settings to no avail. I have called T-Mobile and they say my account is okay.
Any idea? This is really weird.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
elkavayo, where are you located? I am having the same problem today & I am in south florida. I just got off the phone with a T-Mobile tech & he tried something and said it appeared to be a network problem - not a phone issue. Wi-fi is working fine.
weebo523
I'm located in South Florida too, Miami to be precise. Those were my thoughts initially, but I called T-Mobile and they told me that there were no outages or network problems. This has been happening to me since Wednesday 8:00 AM.
Additionally, I swap SIMs with a friend, who also have T-Mobile, and configured his phone (HTC Touch unlocked) to use T-Mo full internet and it worked on his phone with my account!
My wide and daughter (Dash and T-Mo SDA) can also connect to thye net normally with their phones, so I don't think it is the service. Mine doesn't work with neither full nor T-zones. It does work with Wi-Fi though.
The mystery continues... thanksfor sharing your story. Hopefully we'll find a "cure" soon. I've beenthinking about "upgrading" to 6.1.....
i have the same problem with an unlocked Tilt running on my Rogers network.
all my messaging apps work but not Internet Explorer.
I'm in Fort Lauderdale and just had the same problem .. I have TWO 8525's (TyTn) on T-Mobile and also a Wing with T-Mobile, whats weird, is that both 8525's are having the problem, whereas the Wing is working fine.
There is definately an issue right now with South Florida and t-mobile.
elkavayo & vr24, this is strange. It seems to be happening exclusively to the Tilt / TyTn & in South Florida with one Rogers. And it seems like very few of us have the problem. I am usually pretty good at trouble shooting but this has me stumped.
totally, I have tried tons of settings, everything I can come up with, used their Data Configurator, I've tried 3 different ROMs, including Win Mo 6.1, and even on the TyTn forum, people with the 8525 in other parts of the country aren't having the issue.
It's really messed up, and as I said, my Wing works fine, lol... but I want my TyTn as the wing is having other malfunctions. the only problem is, how can you argue it's the network when one phone works and the other doesn't. there is SOMETHING that changed on the network though that is not accepting something with the tytn, in just our area, lol.. obviously. Just no idea what it is.
vr24 - at least you saved me the trouble of trying different ROMs, which I was just about to do I did try going to a backup with no luck. Do you think that something could have gone bad in the phone that connects us through GPRS?
I guess I will have to sleep on this for now. Hope you or someone figures this out while I'm sleeping - VBG
Lol... don't count on me too much to figure this one out. It's quite the nightmare really. And it's a shame. I just purchased my 2 Hermes and was thrilled to have them and they were working, now I have very expensive bricks basically!!!
Anyways, help would be awesome to anyone out there willing to continue troubleshooting this.
Well I have some "good" news... I'll be heading from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles this coming Wednesday, if we don't get it sorted out by then, and this magically works on the West Coast, I'm jam t-mobiles balls into a vice grip until they fix it. I'm REAL curious to see if it makes any difference.
Hi -- I've got an unlocked Kaiser 100 which works fine in other countries (SFR network in France, O2 in Ireland, etc...) and _has_ worked fine on AT&T in America until recently. Suddenly, the data connection has started randomly but chronically started going dead on me. The problem has nothing to do with connection strength: I'm in Manhattan, which generally has excellent coverage, and the connection can be at four bars on HSDPA, and I still won't be able to download _any_ data. Sometimes the four bars HSDPA icon will suddenly change to the no-connection icon for a moment and then return to four bars HSDPA again. And this happens completely unpredictably: the connection is sometimes fine for hours and hours, while at other times I won't be able to download any data for minutes at a time.
I've tried many different connection settings, some with proxy and some without, and haven't been able to fix the issue. AT&T support has been, of course, completely useless, and just stay that these problems happen with unlocked, non-AT&T branded phones.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm using the stock ROM that came with the phone (and which worked great with AT&T until recently) and I've tried doing two soft-resets, neither of which have fixed the issue.
Thanks!
Alan
p.s. Does anyone understand why a "search this forum" search for ATT or AT&T turns up _nothing_? There are many posts that mention AT&T, obviously, but I can't find any of them doing a search. I wonder if someone has posted on this issue before, but I have no way to find out.
You didn't disable anything with an adv config tool by chance?
You are sure you covered "disable proxy"?
Settings:
Name: MediaNet
Proxy settings: None and "This network connects to the internet" marked
Access point: wap.cingular
Username/password/domain: LEAVE BLANK (don't ask why just leave BLANK)
Adv settings: User server assigned IP address
IP header compression
Servers: All empty
I had a similar issue a few weeks ago and AFTER removing username and pw all worked out well.
Thanks for the response -- yes, those are exactly what my settings have been too. They seem to be working fine right now, but I'm sure I'll have connection issues again later today or tomorrow.
Thanks!
Alan
Thank you for that. Telling me to delete my UN & password in media net settings. For some reason, that has saved me from wanting to destroy my mother ****ing phone.
With the UN and Password in there, my phone (when in use as modem for laptop) would ONLY allow me to run google searches, and visit the paypal website. Note, I couldn't actually click on any google result, as it would then resort to error 404
Thank you again, for lending me the tip that makes my phone work like it ****ing should have out of the goddamn box
I'm having data trouble as well. Everything worked fine as of last night. However, this morning I found that I could only connect to the Internet with Internet Explorer. Other browsers, Opera Mini, Opera 8.65, all hang. SiriusWM5, SelectRadio, Resco Radio, youtubeplay and other Web-enabled programs can no longer connect. However, QuickGPS still works as does RSS Hub.
I've tried to tinker with the connection settings, including using the advice in this thread Nothing works. I ran connection setup to just restore the original settings. Nothing. I can only connect with IE...I'm posting this message with it. Any ideas on what the problem might be that would allow some apps to work and not others?
UPDATE: Opera 9 and Netfront 3.3 actually do work. Live Search works also.
Is Pocket Outlook working? I just called AT&T because mine stopped working today.
It looks like this is a widespread problem. Mine is doing the same thing. At least we know it is the service and not the phone.
Hust saw this post on another website..
"Just got off the phone with an AT&T Rep. The hurricane knocked something out and the data access is supposedly down in half the U.S. ETA was this afternoon per the rep"
good to know. but why would some programs work and others not? don't they all use the same port/server/whatever to access the Web?
this is still weird. but let's hope it's fixed ASAP.
seems they've fixed the problem.

Cannot explain how a network works in three words but services to support whatever network (DNS, routers, proxy's, NAT servers) are spread all over the US so if a major hub or datacenter has a problem, things go south, at least partially.

Yeah, looks like things are working now.
I've run into a similar issue except that my phone works OK in the US but not in Germany.
I have an AT&T Tilt with the latest official AT&T Windows 6.1 ROM. It works great here in the US. However, when I am in Germany, the data connection seems to drop and the only way I found to get it back is to do a soft reset. It then comes back for a while, but drops again after some time (maybe tens of minutes - there's an X next to the data connection symbol). After the soft reset I am able to connect to download say the weather in the built-in HTC Home. However, after several minutes the connection drops again and checking the weather results in the phone trying to establish a data connection followed by a message that the answering modem has dropped the call.
Anyone know what the problem might be? The issue seems aggravated while connected to Vodafone, less so when connected to O2. After returning to the US everything works as expected again. I haven't done any tweaks to change the data connections of the phone. KaiserTweak sees everything related to GPRS and data set to default. Some people have suggested getting a new radio ROM, but I'm not sure which one would work well in the US, Europe, Japan and Korea.
Try checking AT&T support tutorials at https://www.wireless.att.com/suppor...0&tutorialsCategory=Browser&tutorialId=668770
I have a CAB in the office for intl. data setup. Helped me in Europe all the time, will post tomorrow.

I will try selecting the carrier when I am in Europe next week. However, I'd prefer something that just works in case a particular carrier is not available. I am hoping the radio will work OK in Korea and Japan too.
tyguy: Do you know what the cab changes? Does it change the radio ROM code or does it modify some other settings? I'm curious as to what is causing the problem. Also, is this a one time operation or do you have to keep changing settings when you go between continents?

Would you have it available now? I'm interested in trying it out. Do you have any details on what it actually does?
@emuyshondt
You're not forgotten. I do not know what it does but it worked for me in Europe.
I deleted it from my email since a buddy of mine sent it while I was in Europe and didn't store it.
Let me poke around - I'll come back to you.
Here it is.

Lemme know.
Hello, I kept on making a post for it until Iread everything that Icould but I can t solve this.
I have a Continental European G1, radio 1.3xxxx.2005, and the UK version.
My problem is that WiFi isn't working on any ROM, cyan (3-4 versions of it, the last months of ROM's made by him), SenseHero, KingxROM, Dwang, and mannnnnyy other ROM, I think I tested like 40-60 ROM releases in the last two months and Wifi hangs on all of them. There are times when market is loading after 1-2 minutes, but that's it, no app works over WiFi, Google Sync after a new install of a ROM worked, but that was it again.
I have e DLink DI-524 Wireless G router, standard Settings(tryed with upnp enabled/disabled), w/o and with secured Wireless, it always detects the network, connects on it but it isn't working.
Another strange thing that happens:
Let's say that I have WAP2(PSK) protection on my router, I disconnect my G1 from it, remove the security, so now I have an open network, until restart my G1 detects my network in it's last state, protected. This is really pissing me off, I have 100mb free and 0.4Eur/10mb in my contract with Orange, but at home I would really like to use my wireless, e.g. to use Gmote and so on.
Does anyone has any idea?
THANKS A LOT!!
Is this a problem with your network or all wifi connections?
I had the same problem
After flashing more roms than I can count to try and see if I could get wifi to work. Even unrooted and went back to stock then back to rooted and still had no luck. I finally called my carrier and talked to there tech department and they said it was probably a hardware issue. I have since had it replaced under warranty. Sorry but I'm pretty sure its the hardware so no matter what rom you flash it won't work
This can't be real, hardware problem? I bought the phone from a friend from France, because here in Romania I would have to pay double for it at my carrier, so no warranty for me...
Does anyone else has the same problem??
Yesterday I tested SenseHero 's latest ROM, I act. WiFi and Google sync'ed but twitter won't.... I hope it's solvable, I started collecting logs, I see in my router that the phone connects through very weird ports to different sites on internet, have to look into that, sorry for grammar mistakes, not native english and writing from my g1. Bye
Twitter sync have always been an issue. It should work after a few tries. I have wifi hangs a lot too, and I dont have a data plan either.
if you can post a logcat, it would help us pin down the issue
I was in the process of creating my first theme(YIPPIII), but I will test it right now. IT's coming.
EDIT: Here is the log, so, during a 5 minutes time, I started wifi, and tryed to search xda on google, anyhow, that can be seen in the log and then tried to download a app from the market.
Hope it helps, I'm really stuck.
THANKS!!!
Does nobody knows smt? this thread is sitting here a while now, should I try reflashing everything? maybe the problem is in the "lower layers of hardware" , radio, spl???
Sorry i couldnt find too much in that log (its a little long and im usually sleepy)
but it seems as though its not routing properly
it seems to be connecting to the internet, but not routing. Do you have DNS settings on your router?
My router connects through PPPoE and the WAN connection has some DNS's but that shouldn't count, those DNS's are the routers problems, the internet 'thrown' in LAN and WiFi should be and it is without any dns's and such.extremely weird...
I dont know if this has anything to do with the ROM im running (cyanogen 5 series)
but when i lose service for a period of time, like in my office, then i go outside on the road, it remains without service until i reboot. Anyone else running into this? I find it annoying i have to restart just to make a call
Try toggling on and off Airplane mode. Probably quicker.
Are you running the latest Radio?
Hi,
What radio version are you using?
*#*#4636#*#*
ERE36B 32.24.00.22u_4.03.00.21_2 ...is that the information u were looking for?
i have the same problem! it happened after the first radio update and im running stock rom..i have to go to settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/network operators/select automatically to fix the probelm..its crazy because it shows i have full bars and 3G and I still can't send messages or call people till i do my fix...any answers??
same problem, i havent updated my radio but am using the latest cyanogen. i usually reboot. thanks for the airplane mode tip.
Moved as not Android Development.
Come to think of this... I had the issue once. I tried toggling Airplane Mode, but it kinda froze and wouldn't let me disable AM. Had to reboot and then it worked fine. Weird, but have only had it happen once. Someone post about this on Google's support site?
My sister has the Nexus also (talked her out of iPhone) and she's having these same issues. 3g dropping to edge randomly while the phone is just sitting there. Can't send SMS and has to reboot the phone. I feel bad because I'm the one that told her to get it and now she's having all these issues... though AT&T really sucks in my state. Her phone is up to date with the OTA updates.

Those are separate issues, I think. I haven't ever experienced those issues... all I've had happen is to go into a building for a while where there was no signal, then after leaving and going outside, not reconnecting to the network. As I said though, a reboot fixed my issue. Not sure about your sister's issue, though it seems some are also experiencing... but not everyone is, which leads me to believe it's either something network related, or specific to a handful of phones. Perhaps a swap with HTC is in order.
It's network+Android. It's even prevalent in good 3G/H saturated areas. Anytime you're switching a speed (EDGE -> UMTS -> HSDPA) all data transfers stop until it's initialized. Unfortunately it seems that Android is handling this changeover extremely slowly and the problem is exacerbated by switching towers (like when you go to a new location). I've found that whenever I travel to a new location I use an Airplane Mode widget toggle when I get there and the problem goes away until I go somewhere else. But like I said it still exists when stationary like if there isn't a really solid HSDPA connection.
It's annoying.
Edit: I should point out that this problem exists with EDGE-3G (first gen Android handsets) as well. Try to do a stream or something like that with one bar of 3G then have it get knocked down to EDGE. 10 to 1 the stream gets interrupted. I know it happened plenty in certain areas with my G1. We're only noticing it more on the N1 because of the antenna placement makes staying on mediocre 3G connections tricky and add in the fact that we're now dealing with a THIRD connection type.
Edit again: I reread my post and it sounds like I'm coming off as "ZOMG THIS IS FACT". It's nothing more than my personal opinion and experiences. Sorry for the confusion.
Again... I think the OP is talking about LOSING SERVICE altogether.... i.e. the bars going grey and the little x showing up above the bars. Not the data connection switchover. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what he's asking about.

Dude... read the post again. It's as clear as day...not to mention the title of the thread!
I've got the same issue too, and I'm with WIND mobile, so its definitely not a T-Mobile thing.
I either have to go to Airplane Mode, or if that won't work or takes too long, then I just battery pull, reboot and the phone is fine.
I've had this happen in different situations... If like the OP, I'm in an area with no coverage and then I enter a region with coverage, the Nexus One won't pick-up or notice that there's coverage and it'll just sit there and say no service.
If I try to manually select my Network/Mobile provider from the settings menu, it'll error out and say your SIM card is not recognized (others have had the same happen to them as well).
I've also had the phone go from full signal to a total loss of signal and signal would not return until I performed a battery pull.

I've never experienced the last problem you described...
By the way, instead of pulling the battery, you should do a soft reboot by pushing power, trackball, and volume down simultaneously. This is easier on your device then just cutting the power. Just bear in mind that it will take a few seconds for the phone to reboot, so be patient after hitting that key combo.

Thanks for the tip man... Will definitely do what you've described from now on.
WIND is having some network issues, so their signal might have cut out and then that must have triggered the loss of signal bug with the phone where it doesn't see to renegotiate the connection.
BTW, does setting it to "WCDMA Only" make a difference for anyone?
Hello All,
I have been in battle with Verizon ever since I first got the service with my Thunderbolt. The internet would run for about 15 minutes and then drop connection even though everything said it had an internet connection. Verizon has had me change out the SIM card, reboot the phone, reset to factory, made sure that always on data was enabled. I have used multiple different tethering applications such as PDANet and EasyTether along with rooting my phone and installing wifi apps. (they don't know about the root). I have been through 4 thunderbolts, all had the same problem. Internet would run for about 15 minutes or less and then stop working. Verizon checked out the network and said everything was fine. I now have a LG Revolution and am having the same problems again. So I know its not a phone issue. I read on here that turning off voice privacy can possibly fix this problem. So I did. I pinged google and at 13 minutes into it started to fail. It would time out or if it did successfully ping the time it took was above 3000 ms. I have a 3G connection of -82dBm (4G currently turned off for trouble shooting purposes) and a 1x connection of -90dBm. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Verizon help is useless so im going to you guys who are much more knowledgeable than they are. I have also tried this on several different PCs. I have to reboot my phone to get the internet working properly again.
Sorry about the long post but its all information you guys need to know.
Thanks,
locohammerhead
Phone calls are like this on my phone. Its a call dropping fool. But, the signal doesn't cause it, it doesn't change. I think its the software myself. I've run log cat, and all i see is a message that says there was a signal change. I dobt know if its an instantaneous thing that i cant see happen, or if its a crock of shinto.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
but my problem isnt with calls being dropped. Its with my internet connection.
Right, but its still over the 3G network. People are having texting issues as well. I think its LG's radio software, is what im saying.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
i dont think it has to do with software because I had the same problem on four different thunderbolts. I also rooted it and tried multiple different roms and radios. So unless LG and HTC all use the same radios odds are thats not the problem.
Well, my Xoom runs fine on 3G,and it doesn't have a 4G radio yet. So I doubt it's Verizon.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
I was thinking maybe there is something wrong with my account or sim card? The girl that set everything up originally was a complete and utter moron that did not know what what was doing.
temporary problems.
Earlier on when I got my phone I had intermittent connectivity issues, but toggling airplane mode on and off or a reboot usually fixed it...and for longer than 15 min, more like days. I'm in a 4G area now, but for about a month and a half only had 3G. Occasionally I still loose connectivity but both methods I just spoke of will fix it for the long term.
It seems very odd that it's not a widespread problem. It’s just so weird. I can stream several Netflix movies back to back without any breaks, even on 3G.
STOCK LG Revolution
Same Here
I run into this same problem while tethering whether on LTE or 3g. It runs great for a while, hours even, then all the sudden it will quit for anywhere from a minute to an hour or more. Sometimes a reboot will fix it. Interesting thing is I ran into the same problem with my old motorola droid. Make me lean towards this being an issue on verizon's end.
Does this occur when you are connected to wifi or only on 3G/1x? Have you tried testing in different locations with varying signal strengths?
Do you have the problem without root?
I'm wondering if this is an issue with your local network, meaning Verizon's network in your area. Since it happened on two different models and several phones, it would seem to indicate that it is an environment issue rather than a radio or other hardware problem.
I have a similar issue, but with text messages. I can send 3-5 text messages before it just chokes up. Then I have to reboot, or turn airplane mode on/off. Then I can send 3-5 text messages before it chokes again. I've done everything I can think of to isolate the problem, to no avail.
If anyone has a solution to his, please let me know. It's almost worse than not being able to make phone calls.
I also experience the Internet issue, but less frequently. It;s not my ROM, because I've used three different ROMs (including stock) and it was a problem on all of them. I saw on some other forum that it may be an issue generated by switching from a 3G phone to a 4G phone. If the VZW rep who setup your phone didn't do everything right, there's a "behind the scenes" setting that sometimes fails to get changed. The suggestion was to dial *611, describe the problem, and they should be able to fix it (though it may take 2-3 days).
I plan on trying this tomorrow, will let you know if I experience any changes. If anyone else has done this or wants to try it, post your results, and lets see if we can get this figured out.

This is almost certainly a VZW problem, whether they will acknowledge it or not is an open question. The only other things I can think of is a bad SIM card or incorrect programming of the SIM. The OP stated that Verizon swapped his out, so that leaves only the programming or the network.
Wish I had a better answer for you, bro.
My internet connection just started messing up with me today too. The internet will work fine with 4g and wifi but i get no internet connection with 3g only...
I have the exact same problem as the OP.
Really pisses me off. Want to throw vzw out the window and go back to a feature phone sometimes.
Vzw customer support is less than helpful. One will say your phones the problem, but why did I have the exact issue with my Incredible. Another will say its because I live in a fringe market area and we aren't really an important part of the network. WTF?
All I know is when I lived in Cincinnati everything worked fine. Moved up north and about 6 to 8 months later my service slowly starts sucking more and more to the point where I don't even bother looking up info on my Revo anymore.
I got my replacement LG Rev exactly one week ago to today. This one is all sorts of connection/rebooting issues.
Also unfortunately the update was already on my phone when I got, so no root for me
WiFI wont stay connected even if i'm 3ft from my router.
Phone will lose ALL signal and drop in to extend, and I'm only 1 mile from a strong 3g/4g tower.
Whenever i would pop it to airplane mode then back on, it would reboot.
I have 4 days before its been 1 month with this phone. I'm close to sending it back and getting the HTC TB or Droid 3.
In a test of patients I reset my phone to factory default, removed CWM and it updated to v6. I have to say the network connection was the most stable I have ever had it be but in turn the phone was not as smooth. Changing between screens had lag and was not as smooth as the original rom that shipped on the phone.
I have since down graded and re-rooted. The signal is not as stable either.
I was having same issue, especially with certain sites, including my own website for my business.
So far, what has fixed the issue, at least through Linux Network Settings, is setting the MTU to 1300. No other number has worked so great to date, but that seem to load everything and keep everything fast and quick with little issues.

EDIT: Upon further reading, I'm wondering if my reply was not quite on track. Is this problem on the phone itself, or via hotspot/tethering? It seems to be on the phone, so my reply might be way of course.
