I was using my BA keyboard this week, sliding it in and out, when two pieces of felt slid out from inside the BA onto my keyboard: small square and a long rectangular piece.
Where do these belong and should I worry?
I can post a photo later, if that will help.
Update 20090109: attached a photo...I flipped the square piece over (it's on the left) so you can see what the other side looks like. The longer, rectangular piece is on the right.
am I the only one?
bump
Am I the only one?
My gues would be that the keyboard has two pieces of felt built into the unit to prevent scratcing as it slides in and out of the unit.
I recently brought a second hand one with two scrats either side of the keyboard so i should think this is is missing the 'felt'
hope it helps!

That is a possibility! Though I looked at the disassembly pictures and diagrams in the wiki, I still couldn't tell where the mystery felt belonged.
Been meaning to post a photo of them...will soon.
I read somewhere on these forums about a fix for the sliding keyboard when it gets loose after some use(which is a known problem on these devices). Infact I did the same thing on mine. Sticking some adhesive backed felt in the area just below the spacebar helps stiffen up the keyboard quite a bit when it is not in use. I used heavy duty doublesided tape and mine has stayed put for a few months now. as for when the keyboard is open a simple guitar pick superglude between the screen and the keyboard. work perfectly
got theese stickers felt off from my BA too.....forget it
seems like some seals/tighteners...nothing serious

The top part of the slider (the screen) on my kaiser sits just a little too far to the right when in the closed position. When I'm holding it and talking on it, my finger feels the slight ledge and it's kind of annoying. Has anyone found a good way to adjust the closed position of the kaiser?
Anybody? I'll eventually dig into it myself, but it would be nice to know if someone else has already done it so I can skip the experimenting and take apart only what needs to be taken apart.
As i know the two tiny rubber stop the screen going further. You can glue something to the rubber to adjust the position. Check the photo attached. I can't think of anything except that can help.

Ah I see...
Thank you for the pictures. That helps. One of the rubber bumpers on mine is somewhat malformed. I may end up disassembling this thing and making some sort of replacement.
I just noticed mine was doing this too, so I returned it today. Lol the next one I got had a very very very tight usb fit. it felt like it was going to rip the usb port out every time I would pull my usb plug off. So I went to return that one! They had only one more left which was the display model, lol. Of course I didn't take that.
So what they did is ordered 3 more to be shipped in this Monday and they are going to let me go over each one and decide which is the best for me to take home!
Just thought I'd update this thread with my story.
I tried to do a warranty exchange with AT&T when I found out that the warranty follows the Tilt, rather than being linked to the person that bought it (I bought mine off of craigslist) but they wouldn't do it. They said for something physical like that it had to be within the first 30 days of when it was first used on their system.
So I decided to fix it myself. I measured the amount of overhang at each end near the slide track using calipers, then looked around for something of the right thickness to add to the rubber bumpers discussed above. I settled on a piece of black, vinyl heat-shrink tubing used for electrical conections. 2 layers of it were enough to correct the overhang at one end and 3 layers at the other. I cut the pieces out making squares about .050" (a little over a millimeter) per side and glued the layers together. I used an exacto knife to cut them and trim after glueing. This was a tiny bit over-sized and they stuck into the tracks so well that I didn't bother glueing them into the phone.
My phone feels so much better in my hand now it's amazing. Before, that little difference made my phone feel super cheap and it was really annoying. Now it feels rigid and well made. =)
atleast you got it fixed. My first tilt was in my back pocket and i sat down on it and had the same thing.. so i gave it to my dad and got another one He hasn't noticed.. (actually i bought him a new one on ebay while he was visiting but it didnt arrive in time so i gave him the one i was using at the time, and about 30 min after i got home after dropping him off at the airport, guess who decides to knock on my door? the UPS guy with the new tilt )
hmm... my gf's 1 week old TD has started to 'self-eject' the stylus automatically... doesn't get 'sucked' in anymore, the magnet is still working when i place the stylus on the batt cover but inserting it back into the slot face the same issue... the stylus is tilted at another angle instead
should pay HTC care a visit?
she's really pissed to get something 'high-tech' for once plus i was the one to 'psycho' her into trying ppc
anyone else face this at all?
No problems here with the stylus, so I guess it's best to give HTC a call and let them fix it.
And oh well, if it makes your gf feel any better: A magnet is hardly hightech, especially considering it's probably just glue'ed in there. So it's the 'lowtech' thingy that's broken, not the hightech
yeh, i probably should...
this phone's given me some fun exploring a new model(i'm using trinity btw) but also given me more problems....
should stop inducting ppl around me into the dark ppc world... crossing over to the dark side just creates more lights to be put up(by me btw)...

lol! friendly advice ! danger! "pissed girl friend" means trouble even if it's because the pen is not "sucked in". lol!
on a serious note i tried to magnetize the pen (i wasn't satisfied with the way it was sucked in ) with the magnet from my htc athena only to get the opposite effect. don't know what made me think that the pen is the magnet and not the diamond. well, experimenting...experimenting
maybe you or your girl friend have the pen near a magnet? a not too plausible scenario ...
i thought so too bout the magnet, i actually chided her for putting/leaving her phone somewhere that has a strong magnetic field...
she adamantly insisted "NO!"... ok, time to zip.
shall pay a visit to the local HTC care centre...
That has something to do with the orientiation of the magnetic field. If you place two magnets together facing with the north and south pole together they will attract each other and with north facing north.....ok I think you got the magnetic basics.
This could only have two reasons, your pen got magnetized and now he is pushed away by the magnet inside the diamond. Or the magnet inside the diamond got misplaced and he is now facing with the wrong side towards the pen.
Try if your pen is magnetized maybe with a paper-clip. If so try to change his magnetic orientation with another magnet by moving it over the pen in different ways as you were sharpening a knife.
hmm.... should give that a try... thanks for the suggestion
was pretty bout the magnet used when reading bout this new model, thought that might cause some problems(yes, it had to be me unfortunately)
pen is the magnet, so magnetise it.
just done to mine, it now flys in
I experienced the same problem today... but I don't know how it happened. I think the pen now has the wrong magnetic polarity. The magnet inside the cover doesn't like my pen anymore
So I will try repolarise the pen with a magnet.
The magnet is inside the Diamond next to the Battery in the Area where the Stylus slides in.
There is a little Magnet in the Stylus as well.
If the Stylus does not get sucked in, the Magnet inside the Diamond, next to the battery, is probably misplaced. This happens if you put the stylus on the right hand side of the Diamond, just about the middle. The magnet gets pulled out of its place and the trouble starts.
dont you have another Stylus? there were 2 with my diamond...

Yes, that's exactly what happened with my diamond!
For everybody who is experiencing the same problem, see following post:

There you have instructions how to refix the magnet to the right place.
hey, my kaiser is about 11 months old, has never been dropped or anything, treated very well, carried in pocket only.
however, when the device is closed, the halfes do not fit as well as they used to, there is a 2 - 3 mm gap between them looking from the side where the camera button is. if i remember correctly when i got the device there was no gap and the two parts fit together perfectly.
also, when closed, the 2 parts are kinda "loose", moving around some milimeters.
sliding works well, though. anyone got the same problem? is this a warranty case?
dunno if you have a waranty case...
BUT!!!
i remember a thread about this EXACT SAME problem...your alignment issue can be resolved by yourself after going through the thread...pictures were attached in the thread and if i remember correctly, it has to do with two very small (about 1mm x 1mm) pieces of rubber (that act as cushioning stoppers) on either side of the sliding mechanism along the side where the sim door is...
search for the thread to get a better idea...it was right here in the Kaiser General section...
i'll edit this post if i come across the thread
good luck
i might have misunderstood your question...my initial understanding was that the slide doesn't close completely and leaves the two halves misaligned. that is holding the phone in your hand in portrait mode with the screen facing you, the left or right edge of the top half would hang out a bit over the corresponding edge of the bottom half
but i think you are talking about a gap BETWEEN the halves such that maybe you could slide a credit card between the two halves of your phone???
if my new understanding is correct, there is a thread about THAT as well...essentially, you'll need special screw drivers (look at the screws that hold the top half to the slide mechanism to get an idea of whats needed)...then just tighten the screws to narrow the gap
once again, it would be better if you go find the ACTUAL thread...i swear i'm not making them up...they DO exist !!!
A few pictures showing what I did to avoid the scratches that appear behind the display because of the slider mechanism.
I´ve used a couple of pieces of black vinil cut to 10x27 mm. Any other kind of adhesive tape will work, but it needs to be a smooth surface and resistant.
Cut them with a paper cutter so you get good angles and edges.
Clean the back of the display before sticking them and use tweezers to avoid your fingers grease in the adhesive.
Start attaching the stickers from the edge of the display, just next to the depression and align the stickers to the lines printed on the back of the display.
Avoid bubbles by pushing the sticker slowly toward the camera and volume buttons.
These two stickers will also help keeping the display in the open or close position. When they get too scratched or something, you can exchange them.

This is ingenious. Brb, going to do this PRONTO
Nice little guide, thanks for this, it will really help a lot of people!
Will be featured on the XDA-portal soon.
Nice Idea!
On my German Milestone however, there was already a huge layer of "tape" with a few cutouts - I think I'll post a few pics later - installed from stock, so... at least for me this wouldn't have any use...

Yeah, on my German Milestone (O2) I've the same big plastic layer by stock, like Sayuuk.
Yes,indeed ! I have the the same "layer of protection" ,same Model: German Milestone from O2
That film came on Telus/Canadian Milestones too. But a lot of people (like myself) removed it thinking it was just there for shipping.
I got the same film on french Milestone.
But I removed it after over 6 months: Nasty bubbles came after 5 months of use... just where I put my 2 fingers when keyboard is open.
Hmm... I have the same large piece of tape/vinyl already on my U.S. Motorola Droid (the one bought mid to late November and the second one replaced in early January) and my mother has the same... (bought in December after Christmas). It makes the slide action very smooth - granted I hardly ever use it.

nice! .. i got a brazilian Milestone and mine also came (from stock) with a adhesive protection.
Hey where do you get that black vinyl, I'd like to put that on my Droid 2?
Hi!
I searched a bit around internet and this is not so uncomon issue, so i started this thread, to see how common it is.
In mine case first curving of keyboard appeared in 2 months. At first it seems innocent, just a little higher keyboard, just not perfectly flat anymoe. But than buttons rly become curved and the whole keyboard moves up a little. Now some letter at the top are comming off already! I see the light through holes in keyboard, i realy didnt expect this from a phone like this, as hardware quality is overall very good. Except for keyboard i suppose... Now it makes very much noise typing..
At some forum i found verizon replaced this curving with no issue, but i dont realy want to send it into repair, in my case it would last 1-2 months, i know it sucks..
So i was wondering abaut gluing it, but first i will probably buy replecement for ~10EUR and use superglue all over edges, expecialy bottom, but i don't seem to find any instruction on removing keyboard on the google, even youtube only has dissasembly for internals. I tried with nails a little and it seems keyboard will eventualy come off by itself lol...
Very dissapointed, anyone else has this, or is this not so common and i should make a waranty request?
