Even though I never had the need, I just connected my iMac to the internet using my Tilt as a bluetooth modem. Just to see, and it was pretty easy
Just establish a bluetooth pairing with your Macbook and your phone,
Start Internet Sharing in your programs menu.
Set PC connection to Bluetooth pan
Set network connection to Media net
Go to menu and tap bluetooth settings
Tap on your laptop in the devices list
Make sure you have Activesync and serial port checked.
press save
Go back to Internet Sharing window and press connect.
If you have any other questions let me know.
Oh, by the way AT$T is really cracking down on data usage, if you are going to be using this alot. You need to get a tethering plan or they will charge you.

Tilt 'HTC USB Modem' driver needed (for Windows XP)

Hi
I am missing the original CD that shipped with my AT&T Tilt Package. Would anyone be kind enough to upload the USB Modem drivers available on the CD please.
I have read the Wiki and I have looked over the forums for it, all I could find were the Vista Drivers for the same, but not the XP divers.
Thanks for looking.
do you have the latest version of Microsoft Activesync installed? If not, you should download it from Microsoft.com and it should be ready to sync.
I do not need ActiveSync
Hi
I already have ActiveSync 4.5 installed. HTC USB Modem drivers are different, they allow the kaiser to act as a dial-up modem that we can connect to a laptop computer.
Although we can use the 'Internet sharing option' in Kaiser for the same purpose, I just wanted to experiment with this alternative.
I am sure the drivers are available on the AT&T CD, I just need someone to upload it here.
IntShrUI
Hey, I have a Tilt too. I was messing around using the Tilt as a modem. I have the drivers, but I couldn't get the Tilt to dial right. I found on this forum a program called IntShrUI. It is in the Windows folder of your Tilt. Just run it and follow the onscreen instructions. You don't have to dial anything. Just plug the Tilt into your computer, click connect on the Tilt, and the internet is up. I can give you more info, I am looking for the thread. I can upload the drivers when I get home too if you want to go that route.
Thanks
Your method of connection is good, but I do not have a data plan. I guess it works if you have a data plan or something.
What I am doing is, I am making a voice call over the GSM network to a free dial-up number. The speeds are VERY slow, about 7-8kbps, but it does work.
Oh and if the number we dial isn't free, then we will be charged for the duration of the voice call. I know its low tech, but its free for me and it actually works.
Thanks for replying.
Sorry, I misunderstood. I used to do that too. Just making a data call to my ISP to get the internet. I will attach the drivers from my AT&T CD. The folder is labeled Vista, but I am pretty sure these are what I used and that they work with XP. I will test it when I figure out where my dumb USB cable went.
Thanks again
Thank you for the drivers jeff. After tinkering a lot with the WModem application, I believe that the HTC Kaiser cannot be used as a conventional dial up modem.
The only way to overcome this problem is to use 'Internet sharing' in Kaiser and specify a connection there itself. The only disadvantage here is, we cannot use the dial up services like NetZero that require us to use their custom dialers.
If anyone has a solution to this, please make a suggestion.
Has anyone tried the Vista 32bit driver on XP? Does it work?
Vista drivers do work
Yes, the Vista drivers work under xp. The kaiser is unrecognized as 'HTC USB modem'. However, as I pointed out earlier, the Kaiser does not behave like a conventional dial up modem. Only if you have GPRS, 3G etc. you can use this method.
I'm in the same boat. I couldn't get those drivers to load.
It's unreal that you can't find USB drivers for this phone anywhere on the Internet for XP.

i don't mean to criticize or anything, but you have a $400 phone, unlimited internet for the phone is like $20, why not just do that? or do pda unlimited for $50 and you get unlimited sms too, i just don't get shelling out a full paycheck for a phone and not the extra few bucks to optimize it

I had no problem getting these drivers to work on Vista and XP. All you need to do is launch Internet Sharing while your phone is connected to the PC, and when the driver prompt comes up, point Windows to the folder where you stored the drivers.
Under Windows XP SP3, I do not even get prompted for drivers, everything loads automatically.
XP 8925(tilt) ICS usb driver
I'm trying to get my 8925(tilt) connected for ICS on my girlfriends' parents' computer running XP sp 1 via usb.
It tries installing a 'generic IRNDS' (something like that), but doesnt work. I couldn't find a working driver, even when I extracted the vista drivers to a folder and tried setting it as the driver for the 8925 in the device manager. All to no avail.
Does anyone know where I can find the XP driver for whatever usb device it would be consider for ICS?
i've got all the tethering plan yadda yadda, I just need it to work, the phone is faster w/ 3g than thier ... !dial-up!!!
Needless to say we watch a lot of Jurrasic Park on VHS in full Dolby Stereo at that household. ha, no really, i need some help with this. please holla back.
@explorer82: go to Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connections > Add a new modem connection.
Select "Cellular Line" as a modem, input the number, user, pass etc.
Than connect to your computer and activate ICS on your Tilt. This should do it.
@rubicant1982: as mentioned in the 2nd post, you need to install Activesync (free download from Microsoft) to be able to connect to Windows XP.

using tytn II as modem in vista

Hi!
I'm having trouble using my tytn II as a modem in windows vista. I had no problems in windows xp but since i installed windows vista and use internet sharing application this is what happens:
I get connected and a new networkadapter (NDIS) is detected
I recieve a local ip-adress of 169.xxx...
This is making me crazy and i've searched the forum without beeing able to find anyone with the same problem...what am i doing wrong??
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
I understand, you use it with USB cable, may be using it with Bluetooth will be better, because in this case Windows will recognize it as a modem.
Please provide some more information about how did you make the configuration.
Did you make it as it was described in the user guide?
Hi!
I did make the configuration exactly as the manual describes it and my device is syncing correctly and everything. It even installs as a network driver when i use the internet sharing application. But it just wont give me an ip-address...
I've had this issue for over a month now and it feels like vista is blocking the service or something, but i just cant figure it out...
PLEASE advise!
I have the same Problem as you !
As a matter of fact, I have an ip but vista says that I'm connected to local network but not to the Internet.
But at the same time I have an illimited data plan that runs perfectly when using Pocket ie...
Still searching for a solution...
But i'm sure it comes from vista...
megaman
No problems!
Hi guys.
Ive used this feature with vista with no problems at all..
Just turned internet sharing on and it connected to the network connection then vista aked me what kind of network it was (Home, Work Place etc) and hey presto it worked.
Mine is a T-Mobile Vario iii btw.
Never really had a problem either though it's much too slow compared to a "real" USB-3G/HDSPA-modem. (I max out at 1.2-1.8 mbit/s but when I use my dedicated modem I easilly reach 4 mbit/s)

Yeah this is killing me! I get the same as you, i get a IP-address but its a local one 169.xxx.xxx.xxx and vista says its a local ip-address...
I've started looking for services that may be stopped and such in Vista, but i still cant get it to work
I also can't get it to work, so if my WiFi goes out and i need internet, i just reboot to XP... Obviously not a solution, it's very annoying. I'd love to figure this out. I think my friend said he got it working, i should get details from him!

Guys, this is not the solution, BUT, until someone finds it, this is a awesome way to get around the problem! Just install the application, start it and tap connect. Now on your computer you'll find a new adhoc network using wifi, connect to it and your ready to go!

You aren't the only one. I've never been able to get it to work on my Tilt, when I used to use it all the time on my Mogul.
I hear now this program costs money. If no guarantee for tilt compatibility, can refunds be granted if it doesn't work?
I must say that the IT manager at my job has this program installed on his Tilt and it works fine. He actually used it in a meeting the other day when the main signal was too weak.
He is just so busy that I haven't been able to have him check out my phone, to see what is the problem. So there is some hope for Tilt owners and WMWIFIRouter.
Worked fine on my Tilt running Sleuth 3.0 Rom.
Try the earlier version, it is still free and it works fine (just a little less polished).
I tried the WMWiFiRouter .91 once. My tilt took too long to connect to the ad hoc network so I stop using it. I think that's the problem. You have to wait until your phone to connect to the network before the router starts working.

Any idea how to use a usb cable to get a kaiser to use the inet connection of a PC?

I'm a consultant and there is a cool invoice software for windows mobile 6
but most offices I go to don't have wifi so is there a way to use the pc's internet connection from a kaiser?
Thanks.
May want to do a search on that since its been posted many times already.
It's prety easy to tether a Tilt to a laptop, as long as it's NOT Vista. Vista is a pain in the ass. Anyway, on your Tit use the file explorer and go into the Windows folder. Look for a file called "Internet Sharing (2)". Hold your stylus down over it until the menu box popsup and select "copy". Now go into your Windows/Program folder and paste the shortcut there. Next, just go into your phone under Programs and find the shirtcut you just pasted. CLick on it. Now you'll see two boxes with drop-down menus to make selections. On the first one choose"USB", and on the second choose "Internet". Now connect your usb cable to your device and laptop. You'll see it start to recognize Activesync like normally, but now on your Tilt in that Internet Saring window the last thing to do is click "COnect" on the bottom. That's it. Actve sync will stop, and your lapop will take a moment o ecognize the new modem. Soon as thats down just openup a browser. TAH-DAH!
If you mean using the pc's conection on the device there are settings in active sync and wmdc which can enable it.
Which one are you using?

Really? I haven't had any issues with Vista and my Tilt? What excatly are the problems encountered?
my first choice is usb or bluetooth pan i select usb then second choice is medianet or att gprs how do i get internet as a choice
Or read the original post...
He doesnt want to use the Kaiser's web connection on the pc... he wants to use the pc's connection on the Kaiser.
Just plug the device into the pc - then run windows update and it will download and install Windows Mobile Device Centre. Then set it up as a guest and you are good to go.
(I am still amazed that there are people who don't use Activesync/WMDC with the WM devices)

I agree. This thread has been too confusing. Just install Activesync on Windows XP or WMDC on Vista. Connect the phone with USB cable and it will be able to access anything the the main PC can access
The only problem you can have are firewalls, the Wm device connects to IP 169.254.2.2 on the PC.
I have connected several PDAs with different ROMs to several computers, and it connects and sync always.
i answer this question all the time;
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000
add that to your registry and it will work.
whats the difference of medianet and att isp gprs?

How to use a Kaiser as a 3G modem for laptop

Is it possible to use my Kaiser to connect my laptop to the internet to make browsing easier than looking at the small phone screen. If so what software/hardware do I need.

Umm....yes. It's in the owner's manual that came with your device. The program is Internet Sharing.
Hardware needed= 1xKaiser and 1xLaptop/PC
Software needed=Bluetooth on Laptop/PC
Method:
1. Enable visible bluetooth on Kaiser
2. Enable visible bluetooth on Laptop/PC
3. Go to START>PROGRAMS>INTERNET SHARING on the Kaiser and CONNECT
4. On Vista go to Network connections panel and choose Connect to PAN Buetooth network.
Should be done. Just beware of your data usage as you could run up a heck of a bill if you go crazy surfing and downloading.

uh..doesn`t this defeat the purpose of unlimited data plan or are they really that bad? I pay $30 for the unlimited data plan with AT&T for 3G (even HSDPA) in my area. Heck my home DSL costs me about same and sometimes I download like tomorrow isn`t coming. lol.
Has anyone ever had a problem with this before?

Not to be a complete smartass, but Bluetooth is a physical hardware radio device....not software ( via an internal card or USB adapter). I only mention this in the case the original poster ( who obviously didnt open his manual or do any sort of research ) thinks he can download a piece of software to make his PC have bluetooth.
Again, not flaming or picking a fight ....... just making sure he has no confusion
