All I'm looking for is a standard flash player that would play .flv, .swf and h.264 files from video channels like YouTube, Vimeo, Exposure Room, etc...
They all use a standard flash player which streams, or downloads the files so it shouldn't be that difficult to implement I would think.
The Hero rom has already shown a flash player that works, basically as a plugin to the browser, so there must be a way to port it to the other roms.
I'd like to see this too.
wait until October, which is when adobe will be releasing their flash player for the android platform. and btw the flash player on hero sucks and is utterly pointless. I believe its Flash 8 all the sites you listed req Flash 10.
I found the Hero one to be usable, but only just. The sound seems ok, but the picture is a bit stuttery. It will be interesting to see if it's really the old hardware used in the Hero that's not up to it, or whether a differnt app can do better. I hear that the beebplayer is also poor on the Hero - not tried it yet - so perhaps it's the hardware?

there is one check the market
Yeah, I had no luck what so ever trying to play video from any of the top video sharing websites, due to the fact that the player version was 8.0. I did however have great success with viewing flash-based websites (typically exported as Flash 8 or earlier for compatibility).
That is going to be an issue that the Flash player will have to contend with when it is released in October. The player will have to be updated regularly everytime a new version of Flash comes out. Hopefully Adobe will stay on top of that, or the player will become obsolete very quickly.
I hope you don't mean the Android7 Flash Player in the market?
http://www.cyrket.com/package/org.android7.flashplayer
It will play an .flv and what not, but you would have to have the file locally on your phone.
It isn't a browser-based solution where you can click on a video link and then launch the player to begin streaming, or downloading the video like you can with the YouTube player.
That is what we need, only for any website that is hosting a flash-based video. Either that, or these websites have to begin offering free downloads of the original uploaded videos.
We saw a sneak peak of what's to come with the flash-enabled Hero rom, but like we all know, that is only for version 8.
Actually, the Flash Player in Hero is so far pretty sufficient, it actually can play YouTube videos, you just have to click on the video itself and it will open in the Flash player.
However, I do agree, further development would be nice. For example, when on sites like Myspace, I would like to hear some profile music playing, it would just in total add to the whole "internet phone" concept.

the flash player on the hero rom is ok....it will be perfect one i can watch hulu bangros on my g1...lol
makes me sad...
yeah,
my friend recently got a HTC phone, don't remember which one though. it was for either sprint or verizon and he can go to facebook and play the actual apps on there like restaurant city and mouse hunt, etc. why is it that we don't have it yet?
Flash, being proprietary closed source crap, is contrary to the nature of android. Adobe has in the past been VERY slow in supporting new platforms, so quite frankly, it really should die altogether. There are plenty of open source alternatives for flash-type content that can be used instead. Instead of complaining here, you should complain to the content provider who chose to use that crap format.

if it was a winmo phone then he can do it because he was using skyfire. his phone doesnt have flash but skyfires servers do.
skyfire uses proxy servers to intercept browser requests which are then compressed and sent to skyfire enabled phones. the proxy server technology has the smarts to take flash video/games, java and other desktop class features that normally slow down mobile browsers dramatically, if those features are even supported, and render them correctly, truly giving mobile users flash.
The one on hero is pretty good, you can play games on sites and stuff, but looking forward to 10 coming out

Hello!
I'm wondering if any is working on it actively? when do you think we will see a free, working codec / player of divx / xvid for android / htc magic mobile?
conveting movies is ok, but not a big fun ;P so, i hope some one will come up with something soon...
there is a paid one, but it is not too good, and movies got unwanted delays in middle of the presentation.
thanks!
xyflash not work for you?it does for me on hero and magic?

sorry, just to clarify, yxflash is a free app on market, but you need to buy a license for it. there is a trial mode for ti.
and it needs to be polished more as well. Doesn't work perfectly for me
does it work perfectly for most people?
I'm using it to show people the new cataclysm wow trailer. Although it will play the original HD file from the website, it is laggy as hell. I use pspvideo9 to convert it to mp4. Plays Like a dvd.
It works ok for me on my phone, but i only use it to watch tv shows,so 45 minutes run time max. (test both G1 and Magic).
Lifehacker just posted that about watching divx on Android, and I thought of this thread. They use RockPlayerBase which is still in beta, but apparently gets the job done.

You're trying to play 720p video on a device with 192/288mb ram and a 528mhz CPU?! You're clearly intoxicated if you think that's going to work smoothly.

Nope, I am aware of the hardware limitations of the 32B, but I am trying to play a 640x352 AVI. Rockbase player doesn't even shows a frame, it shows nothing. With other players like yxflash I can see the movie, although not in a decent frame rate.

i'm trying it on my HTC magic (running cyanogen 5.0.8, which is indeed 2.1)
doesn't work for me either. i can't seem to open any files.
tried 4 different avi's. all of them bring the app back to the folder selection screen.
i tried uninstalling + reinstalling the player twice as well.
any suggestions?
It requires a CPU with ARMv7 instruction set. HTC Magic have only ARMv6. That is why it isn't working...
RockPlayer does have 3 branches:
taken from their site at andplayer.com
Version ARM V7 : Google Nexus One, HTC Desire Incredible EVO , Moto Milestone XT800, Droid Series,Acer Liquid, Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Ericsson X10 ,Dell Thunder Streak, LG LU2300 .ect
Version ARM V6 VFP: Samsung SHW-M100S GT-i5700 ,HTC Legend ,etc.
Version ARM V6 : All models left running Android support ARMv6 instruction set.
I was able to play an Xvid encoded file from my mytouch 1.2. It can be a little choppy and audio/video desync, but it mostly does the job.

I have just tried it on my HTC MT3G and it gets audio/video desync, although it was a small sized video...
So, guys , as i understand there's no solution - we can't play xvid and as I tried big .avi files on our mt3g`s. If someone finds a player please post it here so we all can use it btw if someone can tell me player which plays big avi files - please write me a message or smth.
Are you serious? Did you not bother reading the thread before posting? Are you just trying to pad your message post count? READ.
now the gingerbread own player just can play mp
4 files, but i want to see some avi videos?
Rock player from memory supports both.
And, VPlayer.
Which Gingerbread rom are you using? I get constant fc's with rockplayer on MM's rom.
Vplayer works well for avi, havn't tried it for rmvb but it says it supports it in its description.
I've only used it on froyo but I assume it works on gingerbread also.
V player was great for Froyo but force closes on Gingerbread every time, at least for me..
Per the dev vplayer has not been formatted to work with gingerbread
Not sure if he will update or not but it says so in description on market that its not compatible
VPlayer FCs because of linkage errors (opencore/openmax - surfaceflinger)
Arc Media Player closes itself upon loading video... guess there's nothing supporting Gingerbread atm! *hint to devs*

Glad to hear that. I've only recently purchased it
For some reason it closes the vid randomly. most times around 10 minutes mark.
Not buying yet, going to email the dev and ask. Bet you they ask that I buy first.
Will a rooted NC ever be able to play real Flash movies and games ( Flash 10.x ) Will it be doable whith Froyo ?? Flash and Java are the only 2 things that I still really crave for my NC.
Not with that attitude.
Real answer: ive little doubt that nookie froyo or cyanogen will make it happen and very soon.

Of course it will.
It's only been out for two months, and look at how far it has come.
The thing will be making me coffee by summer.
How do you define working? I can go to the about flash page from Dolphin HD on Nookie Froyo and it shows a valid version (10,1,61,68). UPDATE: Make that 1,1,106,15 from the Market update.
Homer
am I missing something?
are you asking weather or not the nook color can play flash videos in the browser like from Youtube or Ebaums world or sites like that? or do mean something else. because I got flash on my nook color. not flash lite but the full version. flash 10
I've had some success with Skyfire playing videos.
Yep, I never cared much for skyfire either and just wait until you go to a page/site just LOADED with videos...
I expect that flash will make it to the NC, but I'm not expecting it to be lag free with some things given the Galaxy Tab performance... my gTablet actually nearly runs flash almost as well as my notebook (P8600/4850 mobility(same as desktop @ lower clock))

flash 10.1 on nook color? possible?
Yeah if you take a look at the nook devs site they have a how to up on how to root it then add Flash goodness to it as well as market and whatever else your heart desires, you just have to come to the dark side and void your warranty. but its okay we have cookies.
Is there a froyo Rom that is flashable through clock
workmod that is customized to include flash and market etc. Don't really care for nook software
Yeah it really comes down to how much of the nook do you want to keep. That is really the question.
any progress?

Yes it's possible. And in terms of progress it is now working on the CM7 RC1 rom. Check the EXT4 thread in the dev forum if you're interested. I'm running Flash 10.1 right now and loading up flash sites in the stock browser. Live video streams, embedded youtube right in the web page, it works!

Hulu isn't available outside of the USA so I can't test it. Other flash video sites load for me though. Videos start with about 5 seconds of skipped frames while it seems that flash is loading/buffering and then it's smooth from that point on. Audio is not exactly synced with the video though, so when people in a video open their mouths the sound doesn't come until a split second after. It's not perfect but still watchable.
