Windows software for editing/saving SIM and phone contacts? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hiya --
Broke my LCD last week, but I had the common sense to sync a day before. Just got the new one in, installed it with help of a nice random pictorial in Russian. All is well.
Is there some nifty program that'll let me save/edit/backup my on-phone and SIM contacts? I'm going to update the ROM today and that's my only concern; i've got contacts on the phone that aren't yet on my SIM.
Thanks,
Jim

Well, how about that.
Not really what I was looking for, but a PIM backup seems to do what I need, more or less.
Sorry for clogging the tubes.
Love,
Jim

Hey all,
Just got me the T-Mobile Vario 3, aka the Kaiser last week. A friend pointed me this way.
Just want to say thanks for all the nice CAB files hanging around, and all the great hints and tips too, reading the past 10 or so pages on the Kaiser page theres alot of info milling about, looks like I have LOTS more reading to do.
I'm really enjoying the phone, upgraded from a pants W800 Sony Erricson, I really missed having a Pocket PC.
One Tiny question (since I have very weak Search-Fu) I'm suck a noob, but I can't figure out how to add a picture to contact, so I can see a pic in the "Favourite People" List, ive tried to do it form Pictures, and from contacts, and its just not an option. I'm thinking maybe its because all my contacts are still on the SIM card, and not on the phone, maybe then it would let me do it?
hmmm.
OK, ramble over, please me kind to me

get contacts and texts with no screen?

well, my phone found a rock today and the screen is smashed. I need my contacts and texts off of my phone, and i don't know how to get em. Outlook for some reason doesn't want to work with my computer. Is there any other software that will work?
Wait for the 'Senior Member' to answer...I have no idea..

Ok so this was the most useless space I have almost ever seen in a forum!!! WOW...this response isn't much better, but im still shaking my head.
You need MyMobiler to connect your phone to your PC so that you can control your phone from your pc. And use PIM Backup 2.8 to get your contacts and texts.

Never, ever, ever...

...have your Diamond drop out of your pocket in a restaurant.
My Diamond was stolen today. We have the guy who found it on camera, and turns out he gave it back to the guy behind the cash register, who then, most likely, took it home with him. As the footage isn't sharp enough to absolutely say he did it, we couldn't search him, and so he went home with what most likely is my months' salary.
Poor me. Time to get a new one, I guess. Bye, bye, month of work.
Thats why I have a phone insurance.
You need www.wimp-software.co.uk or Ultimate Theft Alert.
Oh, and a baseball bat. lol
Yep W.I.M.P. and the next time should be fun.

How does WIMP work exactly?
What triggers the event to send SMS with GPS co-ordinates? Also what if there isn't GPS reception?
There is also Sprite Terminator http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/?pid=195#
They have discount offer when upgrading (if needed) the Sprite Backup, which is included on the Diamond Appliacation disk (could be region specified).
to avoid these situations:
i cooked mjustice into my ROM
very simple and easy job to cook in
the software also simple and it is free...
you can also install it but a hard reset deletes it. so go cooking..
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mjustice
Sorry to hear that Rami.
I guess I should think about cooking a anti theft tool in my rom as well. Any tutorials on this avaible?

Once wimp is installed, you (or anyone) can send an sms to the phone with your password and the phone then tries to get a GPS fix and then texts back not only with the co-ordinates, but also a hyperlink to google maps!
If it can't get a fix within a set time (you can set this period) then it texts you back to say this. I'm not sure if it keeps trying, but I think you have to send another text later if you get no fix from the first attempt. None of this is shown or alerted on the phone - but the diamond GPS getting hot may give it away!
It's also good if want to find out where someone is - a child, elderly relative etc. I do some late night call out work, and have given the password to a few people just in case.
Getting my new Diamond today. Still a major bummer.
What if someone replaces the SIM-card, the phone would have a different number, right? So how would I SMS it?
at least this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394203 is also triggered by SIM-change (have not tried it though)
the most thing I;m concerned about: more and more people are beginning to know how to flash a new ROM...one's a new ROM is installed, you can really say bey bey to your phone.
About the SIM change: when changed, All anti-theft programs will sent you the new number of the sim to a predefined cellphonenumber you have set.

You set it up to automatically text your chosen number when a SIM is changed. You then have the thief's new number to text

MMS / EMAIL MSVC stopped working! HELP

Hi everyone..
I am a somewhat profiecient Tilt user.. had a few windows mobile phones before.. and had my tilt over a year.. I never had any problems with the WM 6.0 rom so I never upgraded it.... But now I ahve a problem... Today my GPS wasn;t locking on so I reset the phone, and as usualy it fixed the problem.. but now my messaging (and email) won;t work...
I have the HTC Home Installed (been installed a long time) and I use the buttons on the clock screen on it to access my MMS and Email... I went to send a txt and it did nothing.. I thought hte phone was froze.. but other stuff works.. I tried email next.. same problem... It also says the MSVC has encountered a problem and that is not working either.. it all happened at the same time....
The real problem is I have my phone EXACTLY how I wanted it.. with this tweek and that tweek... This program and that program.. this setting & that setting... sigh... I have an odd provider (Einstein PCS) so I had to set up all custom MMS, Email, Internet, and other setting that took a long time to get them all just "right"... I thought the SD card may have went, but other software that I know is on the SD card runs fine (including tomtom)... Any suggestions from anyone before I do hard reset? Please.. I don;t want to have to redo everything...

Hi
I have found that when something stops working after installing new software, if I uninstall any software, in the reverse order it was installed, this usually restores functionality. Uninstalling one piece of software at a time and running trials in between uninstallations usually helps to identify the culprit. If you haven't actually installed new software to co-inside with the failure then this advice is no good for you.
For future reference I would recommend using Sprite Backup (I think that the latest version is 6.5 and can be found on their website). With this software you can make a back up of your existing configuration prior to installing any new software. Then, if anything goes wrong you can just hard reset and run the backup file (stored as an .exe file) from the storage card and you'll get back to exactly where you were before the install.
Hope all that helps.
Cheers

Thanks for the advice but I did nto install anything.... I will get that sprite backup though for future use... thank you.... What I did find this morning is this...
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/107262...&maxResults=20
It seems many other people have had MOST of the same problem... When I followed the directions and deleted the inbox om my SD card, it fixed everything... even the Microsoft Voice command.. no idea how they are related, but it must be.... The only problem is that now after doing all this research on new ROMs, I found one I want to try... now I gotta decide if I want to go through all that work if I don;t have to... I think I will do the sprite backup.. download a default at&T 6.0 rom if I can find one.. then TRY The new rom.. if I hate it.. install the default rom and resotre my settings.. Thansk for you help though

Do you have your Einstein settings. I haven't been able to get my Fuze to connect reliably. I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks!

[Q] SMS backup and HD7

Background:
Hi my HTC hd7 which until now has had no issues and is running on stock just recently went through a phase where it continually rebooted when i charged it. Then when I finally got it to turn on normally, there was a constant clicking sound coming from my speakers. I was also unable to place calls and texts would only send half the time. Since then the phone has refused to charge and when i plug it into a power source the charging light no longer turns on, meaning i can no longer use my phone. I first started talking to my girlfriend when i got the phone and for our 2 year anniversary i was going to create a book out of screenshots of our entire text thread, but apparently ive hit a very formidable roadblock.
Problem:
is there any way to restore my texts from the internal memory? from what ive read, it seems that the internal memory is stored on a microsim inside the phone. is there anyway to retrieve the conversation? Would it be possible to just buy a new HD7 and swap the old microsim onto the new one?
Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated. Theres so many memories and so much history in our texts i just cant bear to lose it. Thanks!

If your HD7 has a custom ROM you can use WP Backup to backup all the personal data and appdata from the phone to a computer and restore it when you flash a new rom, do a hard reset or migrate to a new phone (after you installed a custom rom)...
your only option now is to unlock it(you can find how here on XDA), and then use WP Backup.
Best luck.
I too have a HD7. It's running windows phone 7.10.8779.8 updated just before posting this message.
Anyway, as far as I know, it's not running a custom ROM, so am I able to use WP Backup?
I can't find anything in the market place, unless of course i'm being really stupid and not using the correct search term.
I've searched SMS Backup but get a list of apps that don't appear to be for backing up SMS texts.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks
Install Dynamics v2.0 and you can use WP Backup and SMS Backup, no problem.
And forget any stupid official ROM, they are only useful to create Custom ROMs... LOL!
Ok, what custom Rom do you recommend? I'm a relative newbie, so wouldn't mind a bit of advice
I have the same need. I have the standard/official 7.8 ROM and want to extract all my SMSs to a file (text or Word - including images would be nice, but not essential) by thread/contact before I upgrade to a WP8 handset. Many of these are official business communications, which I want to keep on file.
My understanding is that if the ROM is replaced, then all your data and settings are deleted, so the advice above from faustolg is not very helpful.
Is there a step by step approach please that can be followed to do what we want?

I think he means that if we install Dynamics v2, that will allow us to use SMS Backup. I believe his comment about custom ROMs is just his opinion on ROMs.
I could be wrong. Perhaps he'd be kind enough to clarify the matter.
Aaah yes, Dynamics 2 is a ROM, so not the answer I was hoping for.
Anyone recommend a way to back up my SMS data? I DON'T have a custom ROM installed.
Can anyone help? How do I back up my phone texts?
I don't have a custom ROM installed, just the standard HTC factory rubbish....and i'm starting to hate HTC...how can they agree to make the hardware for a crap OS?
