HTC Diamond Screen Contrast - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Okay today i bought my US version Diamond from ebay, yeah i said it ebay, im just a poor man w, BUT! The first diamond i had was a UK version which i bought from Expansys 600 $ .
Now i seen many people have this problem the "yellow contrast tint" on the US Diamond, so i am writing this post to ask should i even bother contacting HTC, about the Yellow Tint? and would they fix it (Swap LCD screen out to a normal one), under warranty or even for money?
Or am i better off changing it myself with a replacement lcd screen from ebay or from any where else i can get my hands on one?
Also the reason this is a problem for me, seeing how some people can deal with it, its that the dullness of the screen actually hurts my eyes, seeing how i wear glasses.
Thank you in advance for any advice you may have for me.

Also my display has contrast yellow tint. (Italian Diamond)
The other, however, seems to have the contrast blue tint...

were you able to fix it? My screen has the same problem

hi
no fix htc wont help either and charges 163 to rep the screen so best bet is to buy a diam100 screen and rep it yourself

I supply HTC Touch Diamonds for my clients and set them up with software that we make here and I can safely say all new Diamonds have the yellow screen. We've tried to source them from several different locations, every one of the new ones has a yellow screen. The ones we get are mostly DIAM100's as well, so the model number doesn't dictate the screen tint. I've still got one of the original diamonds with the proper white screen and I'm glad I do as I can't stand the yellow ones.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE just MAKE A CONTRAST PROGRAM FOR THIS PHONE!!! ITS SUCH A SHAME!!

I've got a US Diamond with a white screen, thankfully.

As far as I know, the underlying technology in the screen doesn't support it, so it'll be a tad pointless.

from what i was led to beleve from orange sum diamonds are made in china (the good ones) while some are made in taiwan for a portion of the price, these cheaply made ones are the ones with the screen tint issue!! i had to return my diamond a few times b4 i finally got a decent one lol

this is really a deal killer for me. i was about to buy a us version than read that us versions are prone to yellow screens but if this is true, even the euro versions are now all yellow!

I am glad to see this issue has been brought up. I've got 2 Diamonds from both regions as well, and can confirm this 100%. It was actually the first thing I noticed when powering on the American Diamond for the first time.
My only guess is that the American version is using a cheaper LCD, as the blacks looks more like washed out grays. The whites, are this off-white cream color, its just not healthy to look at. The backs of both my Diamonds are 'Made in Taiwan'.
So I'm sticking to the European Diamond as it looks a lot better, and I can easily live without 3G.
On the Left, European Diamond
On the Right, American Diamond
Brightness 100% on both:
Brightness 100% on both:
Brightness 100% on both:
Auto Brightness on both:

I have a Vodafon UK version and days before a friend of mine got a diamond that the white was like you say "white cream"....
so you wrong saying that the european version have a cheap lcd. mine is colorfull and bright.

The same problem on my Diamond from Orange Romania.

Same probleme with my Diamond dressed in white ^^, but its not that bad as show on the photo, its only a little bit yellow.

i`m from romania and i buy a htc diamond from france , paris , and the screen its not yellow .... its white/blue .......

LCD less contrast and color appearing yellowish

Hi, PAL,
Since I brought my HTC Diamond HK WWE version on June, and compare with my several friends of HK_Traditional Chinese Version 1.37.842.....
and discovered that mine having much higher contrast as all of my friend's one less contrast and color appearing yellowish....
I'm sure it is the difference of LCD/hardware, as I've flash several ROMs included the said version...
So, does HTC change the spec or supplier of LCD display???
Do anyone has idea of this phenomena ??
THX
Kelvin
hi all,
My Diamond's LCD is also less contrast and the white background appears yellowish. I found out that this batch shipment has this problem and I have checked more than 10 new sets.
Hopefully HTC is looking into this problem. Really disappointed!!
rgds
Frank
Same here. I have 2 Diamonds, bought a month apart. The new one (arrived today) has lighter contrast and the white screens have a yellow tint. Very disappointing.
Mine also same bought 1 week ago after compare with few friends, Is that the batch problem or HTC going to cut cost using lower grade LCD for future set. Very disappointing (for those who's bought 1 week ago u might think your LCD is prefect, go and compare with 1st batch quality u will go )
So, does anyone contact HTC to get their explanation??
Personally, I'll complaint such disappointed deviation and give them pressure.
Wish you get htc positive response..
hmm, might be that it is just the 'calibration' of the light sensor. When you disable "automatic adjust backlight" and use the slider to set your backlight, all looks fine I believe
Disabling automatic backlight doesn't help improving contrast/saturation...
Would be awesome if someone could come up with a hack that made it possible to adjust contrast on the Diamond... I've played with Resco Photo Viewer and by increasing contrast on photos all looks extremely good.
It's completely insane that they let us adjust backlight strenght but not contrast!!! A contrast settings slider would help tremendously for us with the low contrast / washed out screens!
we knows that htc provided lcd from 2 factories...one that's more white and another that they said more bilanced in color..but if you compare 1 to 1 seems to be better the first...this is not only for the diamond!!!i had 2 htc touch that had the same problem!!!so..be happy with your diamond..white or yellow that is..
p.s i a have yellow..
i am buyers 16.7.2008 is white my friend buyers 15.10.2008 he i yellow

I know that I'm not the only one reporting this, but I'm the first one to provide pictures and video that prove that the problem is not so small as some might think.
It seems HTC started to use lower quality LCD screens with some (maybe all) of the newer Diamond units. These screens have a yellowish tint, and seem to have lower contrast.
Here is the proof (it's a comparison with my old Kaiser):
(both devices are at maximum backlight, and the Diamond's "auto backlight" option is off)
Pictures:
http://img45.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=10590_Picture_003_122_764lo.jpg
http://img24.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=10597_Picture_005_122_672lo.jpg
The difference seen in the picture is a bit exaggarated in comparison to what I see in real life (even though I did not touch the picture with any editing software, this is right from the camera), so I've included a video too, which more accurately portray the differences:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cVGORLm-Qc
(in real life the difference is just a bit more pronounced than in this video)
It is important to notice that without a direct comparison to a unit like the Kaiser (or the first batch of Diamonds), it might be hard to know that your Diamond has this phenomena, because even with this phenomena the screen look decent.
My fear is that both types of LCD screens are going to sell with new Diamond units from now on, making those who bought the yellowish screen unable to ever sell the unit for a decent amount of money (when they feel like upgrading).
We need a formal answer from HTC regarding this issue.

Me too, I was sending my TP to repair after using it for 2 months, due some really dissapointed problem like the LCD screen bottom corner peeling off and sliding keyboard starting to become not align with the body.
So they said they're going to replace the LCD 1st and return to me while waiting for the new stock of sliding keyboard. So I just got back my TP from SIS (HTC Malaysian Distributor) today, and found that the screen became VERY yellowish and terrible in different angle-viewing, besides, the new LCD screen viewing angle is terrible, some more fading off and cloudy, like covered with a greyish+yellowish cloud like that!
I did complain to the girl @ SIS, but she said she can't do anything! "this is the NEW BATCH of original screen from HTC!"
But after 'google' thru the net, I've found a lot of other country Touch Pro/Diamond has this issue. And get replaced a new one for them by HTC. Then why Malaysian can't?! This is unfair!!!!!
LET'S SHOUT THIS OUT LOUD TILL THEY REPLACE IT FOR US!!! Check this out, more others has this dissapointing & terrible quality problem for this expensive device!!!

LCD display

I broke my digitizer and LCD display and bought the replacements via ebay. Both were "OEM" or whatever.
I replaced them, and the digitizer seems to have worse multitouch than before. I understand that it sucks, but my 2 points never used to get confused when they crossed axis, (or so I dont remember them getting confused).
But also, my LCD seems to have a pink hue to it. I definitely know mine did not have this before the break. I read over a lot of posts here and elsewhere about the pink hue problem. This doesn't appear to be a browser problem, but an actual hardware issue.
Should I return the LCD and get a replacement and hope that the other one I get will be regular, or are my odds slim to none. My previous one was NOT pink whatsoever. And this new one I noticed it right off the bat.
N1 screen isnt LCD... did you get an LCD or an AMOLED?
Well it's LCD with LED backlight. I believe the company I got it from off Ebay got the OEM product directly from Samsung.
It is the same as the one I had before. The part number on the display is the same as the one on my original cracked one, 60h00287-00p

So the colours are a lot more bland and the black isn't really black? You would most definitely know if you got an LCD, it would look ugly compared to what you had.

Are you SURE its an LCD? as andrew said, the nexus only has an AMOLED screen which is a completely different technology
if it is indeed an amoled, then you may have gotten an ATT nexus amoled which is known to have a purple/pink hue
Well what I'm saying is the p/n written on both displays are the same, both from samsung. Which means, yes, it is a AMOLED display.
I don't think it's a case of an "at&t" display being sent to me. My nexus one was for at&t, and I didn't have such pink issue. But this new display does.

well china sells a lot of fakes and they can match up stuff like that.....
and not all nexus display this kind of saturation. Do you have a picture so we can see the extent of the hue?
it doesn't show up much in pics.
but I think it's beginning to fade. I've been leaving the display up with a red color. and alternating through white and black.
Here's a pic I took. But again, it doesn't show up much in it.

nah its noticeable on the keyboard and borders. use if for a while and see if the screen conditions itself. that is the same hue i believe that some att users were mentioning
It's worse to the eye than in the photo though.
I'll see if it fixes itself.
hopefully it just needs to be broken in
At 100% brightness, the pink tink is barely noticeable.
Actually, anything above 50% brightness and it seems fine. It's when it gets lower than that, it starts to look pink

HTC HD7 S-LCD screen ?

Haven't heard about that ...
Some say that the original display of HD7 IS actually a super LCD. Although I'm not sure, but i guess it makes sense; since the display quality is actually better than HD2. It could be just me though!
Finally, my friend answered me: "One person e-mailed htc and the response is that some old hd7 are tft but new ones are all slcd. there's no info on the official site because of the coexistence. "
I have the phone and the screen is too weak to be a S-LCD. Black are grey, and blue are more like light blue. Still searching some informations, can it be a reason to return the phone and have the new S-LCD one ?
I wouldn't be sure of this until we actually see these supposed SLCD versions in person, but I doubt it. There don't appear to be any 4.3" SLCD on the market on the moment, and from my own tests the ccurent HD7 was pretty similar to the HD2 in regards to screen quality, complete with the apparent slow looking response time (which gives a wierd kinda bluring/bleeding look when scrolling through lists), and colour reproduction and contrast levels are ver similar if not the same as the HD2.

HD2 has a 65K color display, while HD7's screen supports 16Million colors. Thats a lot of difference
Has anyone compared the screen of the HD7 to the screen of the Desire HD?
That's also a 4.3" screen and is supposedly a S-LCD. The Desire HD screen is absolutely fantastic and if the HD7 is anything like that I would be seriously impressed.

If isn't and if somenou has the S-LCD one, please can you send me your serial number by mail?
Or if is it possible, how to find out the S-LCD HD7?
You are talking about the HD7S (S stands for S-LCD). It should be coming to AT&T USA from what I've read.
HD7
HD7S
The device you guys are talking about is the HD7S.... It will be released by AT&T and it will have the S-LCD instead of the TFT display. That will be the only differance.
5 June
AT&T HD7S (Super-LCD) to be in stores Sunday 5 June...my local store even called yesterday and confirmed arrival and availability for sale on Sunday.

[Q] Screen Color Balance Warm?

Just received an Incredible S & have a few questions. Is this the normal color temperature for it's screen. The phone on the right is a Samsung Exhibit II. Both should be at full brightness. Whites on the IncS look like a cream color.

Also odd that I bought the phone from Amazon.com & it seems to be meant for the India according to the software # & that English (India) was the only language option. No wonder there was no sense update. The warranty should still be ok in the US?
I got this phone to use with my legacy T-Mobile data plan for 4g & tethering. Both work fine unlike the Exhibit II but I notice that the wifi hotspot shows a 3g symbol. I seem to be getting 4g speeds tethered(other then ping) to just testing on the phone. So the 3g wifi hotspot is really 4g where there is service?
Can anyone just look at their phone LCD & compare it to another phone or their monitor & tell me if the colors on this phone are suppose to be like this?
I've ask this on another Android forum & have gotten no replies there either. I don't know why, but I hope this isn't how the screen should be normally & everyone is in denial. In any case contacted tech support & they do agree that the color balance is too warm in that picture. So I will be sending it in soon & hope that I get better screen back.

my screen seems normal compared to my mac... guess your piece is faulty ... good luck with the new one
HTC repair had a pretty quick turnaround getting my phone back to me in about a week. Unfortunately they don't tell you what they fixed/replaced. I sent it in for loose USB & warm color screen. The USB is better & even the speaker sounds a little better, but the screen I still think is rather on the warm color temperature side.
Can I have some more confirmation from other Incredible S users if the colors are really this off. It's a shame since the screen looks nice with anything besides white. It's something I could probably live with if this is just how it is with this phone(maybe I'm just too use to cooler screens). Here's another photo comparison to my old Nokia N900. I know the camera has it's own white balance processing but this is how it really looks to my eyes.
Same thing on mine, I think they want to mimic the color temp of AMOLED display that I hate. TBH I really hate AMOLED over saturated colors. Still this thing is a little better than AMOLED still it's nowhere as good as my Dell UltraSharp .
So I'm not alone, but is this the norm or just a panel lottery? I wonder why they can't just supply software controls like on PC's so we can adjust colors to our liking.
I guess this issue is only with the incredible S manufactured lately...one of my friend bought INC S some two weeks back...I compares it with mine (I got it when it got released) n found put that the display had a yellow tint...we reported to the shopkeeper... he told us that this issue is only with latest INC S...
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
two of my friends have inc's and their screens have the blueish white tint to the screen as mine is a warmer yellowish tint.
i had to replace the screen on mine a couple of weeks ago and it still has the warmer tint .
have gotten used to it and i only notice if i put it next to my friends phones..
It is a bit warm colour on my IS as well, especially when I compared it to nexus s SLCD version. However, before the comparison I did not feel any uncomfortable looking at the screen.
Without proper tool to analyse the screen and give detailed statistics, It's hard to tell if It's faulty or not.
Different manufacturer/technology makes different screen, such as super amoled tends to be greenish on nexus s and lots of people love it. So I think It's down to personal preference and taste.
However, if you think yours is too warm, don't hesitate to get a replacement.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
THe first batch of Incredible S phones had a ACER manufactured screen, but later the displays came from SHARP which have not the same quality.
I saw this on a Dutch forum:
This guy has 3 Incredible S (don't ask me why.)
Phone A: Bought on 17-03-2011
Phone B: Bought on 20-07-2011
Phone C: Bought on 18-04-2011
It looks like Phone A and C are from the first batch and B with a SHARP screen.
HTC does this also with other phones like the Sensation
So on the chance that HTC would replace my screen I wonder if one could specifically request an Acer? Probably not and they might not even have those screens anymore.
Not sure if ACER would be better anyway since I found this about the Sensation screens "To really sum it up, the Sharp screen is slightly less "vivid" than the Acer. But the Acer has ghosting, tearing and flickering. In short: more issues."

Which one is normal? The whiter one is from Sam's Club and the yellow one from Google. Google has always given the nexus devices a yellowish hue so I'm not sure..
My gnex is more yellow than both lol
Well I have to say, it sucks that you have a yellowy screen from google, but this is just the range of screens you will find in manufacturing. Would you have found it yellowy had you not had something to compare it to? Probably but it all comes from the same place... Asus. Google did not tune screens from Play store to be more yellow than that brick and mortar stores. I don't like that there are inferior screens out there, or defects in general. In a perfect world there would be NO defective units, but we don't live in a perfect world. Even the retina equipped iPad has yellow screens for some, etc. If you don't like it (I wouldn't!) please get an exchange! I would not accept that knowing that there are nice white screens out there. In fact, I went through 7 nexus S's and 2 galaxy nexus phones to get one with a screen that I could accept.
It's just a warmer white. Some will get a cooler white which is blueish. Just how displays end up. I know my rezound has a warmer white compared to my friends but I wouldn't call it a defect

I'm going crazy, each nexus 7 I've got have a defect:
Blinking screen, bleeding edge, colour defect :S
Check this, Franko Kernel r13 left, right stock 2min uptime. Both are C80 8gb from google.
I hate this, Too many replacements, what to do, replace again?
the one on the left is correct, the one on the right has washed out colors
It's yellow tint, screen works perfect, if yo compare both tablets you realized how bad the screen is :S
All my previous 2 replacement units have the yellow tint. My original one has normal white color.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Another one affected by yellow tint, in my case in a C80.
This is my second replace, first one was by a very minimal screen lift in the left side.
I'm surprised by the argument about "this is not a defect". We are talking about screens. In a TV/monitor it's unthinkable to ignore these artefacts, why we should do it in a touchscreen device??
Each one have a tolerance, but the fact is the fact. The screen works bad, maybe is related to calibration or maybe with a bad ensamble, but no one guarantee you that it doesn't going to worst.
If you want to have a device that is not optimal "out of the box", you accept a unnecesary risk.
both C80.
Latest 8gb 3 of them with yellow tint.
And here is me thinking the 'warmer' colours were normal on a N7.
Just realized how yellowish all the whites are on mine... and I thought everything is fine with this one.
It's amazing how fast and good can be a cheap 7inch tablet. But when so many have problems

Blueish whites on SAMOLED.
