Found this cool trick out today so wanted to share with all. Ok go into market and download the file manager Astro. Open up astro, hit menu, application manager, check all apps installed and hit backup. When your finished mount sd card then look for backups folder. Open it up and inside are all the .apk files for everything you have on your phone. You can now get apk's for almost anything as long as you install it and run the above steps.
...and as long as it's not Pac-Man....or the paid apps, when they start coming out.
Haha yeah i figured you already knew about this. I'm trying every app and game i can to see what wont work. Now i can scratch pacman off my try out list.

Astro can't backup pacman because its a .zip file and not a .apk, if you have JF's rc30 you can still get by busybox coping it to your sdcard, its in /data/app. As for pay apps they are probably encypted
We've been through this. I was joking with 555 up there
Noob here,
how can you locate or transfer a apk files? where are they exactly saved?
using a Huawei u8860 phone.
Thanks

Can't believe I haven't found an answer to this somewhere.... here goes...
Ok, so I'm getting a bit sick of having to reinstall all my apps after I've reset and installed a new rom. Surely there's a way of batch installing a bunch of applications and still having them catch updates in the future.
I've used Astro and MyBackup to install the apks manually, but then the applications fail to update in the future.
Any advice?....
aTrackDog.
...Or backup for root users.
automatically installs and it sets it up so that you can get updates for them.
I think he means via the market place download page. I don't think aTrackDog updates the market download page.

It will notify you of updates, which you download from the market. This puts the app in the market for future updates
Try Titanium Backup...
Before I flash:
adb pull /system/sd/app /app/
after I flash:
Use DroidExplorer for the pc, to hook into your g1. Then batch install all the files from the /app/ folder on your computer.
and that's it. =]

He's just following everyone else's example... unfortunately
I personally find an easy way to do it.
Backup all your apps. (I do a Nandroid backup with ext, and then extract my apps from the ext2.tar)
Install a new ROM, do not enter the market.
Use Droid Explorer to batch install the .apk's from the ext2.tar
Then go into the market and they will be there as installed.
Utility on Amon_Ra 1.5.2, VERY EASY.
Go to Recovery
Go to Console

Press 3 to back up, and press 4 re-install.
Hey Guys / Gals,

For example, I dont find Pocket Legends game in the Market from my Gtab, but I can DL it to my phone and install. So......I want to move it to my Gtab
I have noticed this for a number of Apps, cant find it in Market from Gtab but can on my phone.

You can use titanium backup, it puts the backed up programs in its sdcard folder.
Astro file manager can do it too..
so if I used Titanium Backup, I can backup to my sdcard on my phone, put that sdcard in my tablet and restore the app on my Gtab from the sdcard?
if that will work, I would be 1 happy gtab owner
A very easy way I've found it to use a combination of RootExplorer and Dropbox. Install Dropbox on both devices....heck and RootExplorer on both as well..
On the phone, use Root Explorer to browse to the .apk then long press it...select "Send" then select "Dropbox" and it uploads it to your Dropbox. On the Gtab, open up the dropbox and install the app.
Send is not in the list of options for my Root Explorer, I have the paid version of RE and just installed dropbox.
Hmm...trying to remember what I could have installed that added that option....I have it for about everything....
Could be blackmoon attachment saver free...

I've got my nook color rooted with ManualNooter 4.5.18 but I'm not sure where to put the apk files. Do they go on the SD card and if so in which folder or just on the card. I also need to know how I then install or access them. Thanks
I just place the APKs in a folder called backup apps on the SC card, I don't think it matters much.
For some apps I did have to copy the APK to internal in the Nook, I just used a folder in the my files folder.
The important thing is that you can find the files once they are copied.
I use ES File Explorer to navigate to my APKs and install them. It's free from the market. As for where to put any APKs that you want to load manually, anywhere that makes sense to you should be fine. I have a folder on the SD card called "downloads" that I stick everything into.
When I use that program it says install blocked, and my phone is set to block installation. Any way around this?

You have the non market installs button clicked right?
Still rocking the Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
Yes I have the box checked
I have the button in nookColor Tools checked. Is there another??
After rooting, I backed up all apps and bloatware with Titanium Backup Pro, and then uninstalled the bloatware. I want to revert back to my stock state by reinstalling all bloatware, unrooting, reformatting, and rerooting and then using Psouza4's script method instead.
Obviously, I was unaware that I wasn't going to be able to reinstall several of these apps even though they are backed up.
I've been on this for HOURS. I obtained ALL the .apks of the bloatware from the Droid 3 System Dump that was posted here a while back. I moved all the .apks and .odexs of the corresponding apps into system/apps by using Root Explorer.
1.) When I use Root Explorer to try an install an app (DLNA or Flickr Authenticator, for example), it simply says "Application not Installed." It can install other apps such as Kindle and Books, but it cannot install the same ones that Titanium Backup has a problem installing as well So I tried Droid Explorer.
2.) Droid Explorer: Same thing. It can install most apps but not DLNA, Flickr Authenticator, and a handful of others. Crashes whenever I try to. "Droid Explorer has stopped working." So I learned how to use ADB.
3.) ADB: Whenever I try to install the app by "adb install DLNA.apk", it shows the progress and then gives me the error of [INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT].
Like the others ADB can install anything else except for the "problem child" list. Here's the list of the ones I cannot find a way to install without an error or a crash --
DLNA 0709.69
DLNASystemService 1.0
GoToMeeting 1.0
Guided Tours 2.3.4
Help Center 2.3.4
IM 3.0.4.6
IM Presence 2.3.4
News 2.3.4
Picasa Authenticator 2.3.4
Social Messaging 2.3.4
Social Messaging Service 2.3.4
Social Networking 2.3.4
Social Sharing 2.3.4
Social Status 2.3.4
Twitter Authenticator 2.3.4
Please help...and thank you in advance.
Forgot to mention; I've tried the method where you long-press the .apk and .odex using Root Explorer and then changing the permissions and then rebooting, but even after a reboot the app does not appear in my drawer.
Solved. Took me forever to figure it out. Thinking I should write a guide on how to do this for all the unfortunate souls who uninstalled apps instead of freezing or using Psouza4's script.

Would you mind sharing your solution? I have the same issue and am leary of trying Psouza's app because my carrier is Bell not Verizon (he's warned be this could cause a boot loop!). So I only tried replacing system apps that I deleted with no success.
Use psouza4 safe bloat remover in the Dev section, it will also recover your missing apps, make backups, symlink them correctly and more.

I just realized his ONE-CLICK method is what allows system/app to be restored if you have the System Dump available. People kept telling me "yea use his script, it'll put everything back to normal." No, it won't. His script can rename all apps on the list from .apk to .bak, but the script itself will NOT restore anything. His ONE-CLICK method, however, will, assuming you have all the system files available.

1.) Download Root Explorer
2.) You need to get the .apk's and their corresponding .odex's into system/app. If they are on your computer, connect your phone via USB and drag them into a folder on your SD card (I made one called System Dump).
3.) Use Root Explorer to browse to the folder you put all the .apk's and .odex's in, and press the menu button and click "Multi-Select", and select all the apk's and odex's you want to install, then click "Move" or "Copy"
4.) Browse back into the system/app folder and click "Paste." (If it doesn't let you, make sure you have "r/w" clicked at the top right or you won't have permission to make alterations to that folder)
5.) Now find the .apk you want to install that you just pasted. For example, DLNA.apk. Click the file, and press "Install." It should give you a list of the permissions that the app needs. Hit ok/install, and it should say "App was not installed" or "Installation unsuccessful."
6.) Now, press and hold the .apk file you just tried to install. A menu will pop up. Click on "Permissions." Make sure ONLY the following boxes are checked - Owner: Read and Write, Group: Read, Others: Read. Everything else is to remain unchecked. Press "OK"
7.) Now, press and hold the .apk file again, but this time scroll down to "Change Owner." Change both Owner and Group to "0 - root" (it's the top-most option). Click "OK."
8.) Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the apk's corresponding .odex file.
9.) Change back to "r/o" at the top right of Root Explorer and exit.
10.) Reboot your phone.
11.) Once booted, your system file should be installed properly.

He provides links to Verizon's system files in one of the posts.... so if you're with Verizon you're golden.... not so lucky if you're with Bell Canada like I am.

Additionally, the program has several menu items and links in the text that you can use to download these files. But again, only for Verizon users because we have different apps.

Unhappy, did you try out the steps I wrote out for you? They work like a charm. A bit time consuming, but it gets the job done regardless. Let me know if you need help or if you can't figure it out.
Is there any way to backup my purchased apps to my PC? I mean the installer itself.
astro file manager will back up installed market apps as apks. free, doesn't require root. then just copy the apk's from /backups to your computer
App Backup Restore. Astro would overwrite if you redo backup. ABR would overwrite only if its new version. Does not require root.

That's nice. What if I already purchased it and I am just about to install astro file manager now would it still be possible to backup the installers?
Sharing apk's of paid apps are definitely illegal
I use Appmonster for it, cos it does it automatically and stores it onto external sdcard (you have to set it in the options-dialog).

he never said sharing, he said backing up (eg for his own use).
You can do it as soon as you purchase the app. I actually like that the process is 'manual' myself.
