[Q] Manualnooter 4.5 App problem - Nook Color General

I've got my nook color rooted with ManualNooter 4.5.18 but I'm not sure where to put the apk files. Do they go on the SD card and if so in which folder or just on the card. I also need to know how I then install or access them. Thanks

I just place the APKs in a folder called backup apps on the SC card, I don't think it matters much.
For some apps I did have to copy the APK to internal in the Nook, I just used a folder in the my files folder.
The important thing is that you can find the files once they are copied.

I use ES File Explorer to navigate to my APKs and install them. It's free from the market. As for where to put any APKs that you want to load manually, anywhere that makes sense to you should be fine. I have a folder on the SD card called "downloads" that I stick everything into.

When I use that program it says install blocked, and my phone is set to block installation. Any way around this?

How to get apk files

Found this cool trick out today so wanted to share with all. Ok go into market and download the file manager Astro. Open up astro, hit menu, application manager, check all apps installed and hit backup. When your finished mount sd card then look for backups folder. Open it up and inside are all the .apk files for everything you have on your phone. You can now get apk's for almost anything as long as you install it and run the above steps.
...and as long as it's not Pac-Man....or the paid apps, when they start coming out.
Haha yeah i figured you already knew about this. I'm trying every app and game i can to see what wont work. Now i can scratch pacman off my try out list.

Astro can't backup pacman because its a .zip file and not a .apk, if you have JF's rc30 you can still get by busybox coping it to your sdcard, its in /data/app. As for pay apps they are probably encypted
We've been through this. I was joking with 555 up there
Noob here,
how can you locate or transfer a apk files? where are they exactly saved?

Use a file manager like Root explorer. It is a paid app but really great. There are some free ones as well like Astro but I personally don't like how the UI looks.
You can download them to your SD card and install with Astro (free). Browse your SD card with Astro, click on the file and it asks you to either browse or install.
Thanks I meant if you can download the file not install them. I assume that its just not possible and you have to use your computer then.

Does anyone have any input on this? When I browse the forums on my phone and click on an apk, I get an "Unknown - Cannot download. The content is not supported on the phone" message.
Are there any possibilities installing an apk using only the phone?

Download Astro File Manager. Open it up and then use the menu button and go to Preferences. At the bottom of the list you'll see "Enable Browser Downloads". Tick that box and now you can download files in your phone's browser.
Don't uninstall astro, or you won't be able to dl anymore.
I just used Dropbox. Files go in on my PC, and are available on my phone with the Dropbox app.
DB offers 2GB storage for free and, so far, it's worked from all my PC's and works well with my phone. I just open the .apk and install.
umm... same way you download on a computer...

Thanks. I had tried with explorer, which is the free version of root explorer, but it didn't work. I'll try astro.

There's an app on the market called "Download All Files ". It has allowed me to download several different files that I was not able to before. Downloaded files get put into a folder called "download" on the sd card. Use your file explorer, you can install .apks from there.

Nook Color Tools

I'm having trouble installing this...I'm using root manager, and placing the apk into the system/apps folder. When I click on it it says installation blocked. And the reason I'm installing, or trying to install nook color tools, is so that I can change keyboards. So I'm stuck in a maddening circle.
Anyone want to show me the light? I don't know why I'm having so many issues...rooting and installing other apks went flawlessly.

Mine is in data/app, not system. Maybe try putting it there....?
Did you try installing it from your SD, without putting it in the internal memory first?
Also, after putting it in data/app or system/app, you could try simply rebooting without installing via Package Installer, and see if it shows up in your app drawer.

That's the thread - should be in the first post.
Yes, it works on 1.0 too.
If you have problems installing other APK's. Find the "Allow Non-Market Apps" Checkbox in NookColor Tools (it's in the app drawer).
Uncheck the box, recheck the box. NC might need a reboot but it worked for me. I tried installing with Astro and Appinstaller and neither would let me until I did this little trick.
I just put the APK's in the Root of the SDcard btw.

I am in exact same boat as above. I rooted with 1.00 and cannot get nook color tools. I want to unlock permissions and be able to download third party apps. I tried to purchase root manager from market but would not let me purchase. It stated, my cc was invalid.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. I was pulling my hair out to try to install non-market apps... Unchecking and checking it again worked.
(When I plug in my nook, I don't see a "system/apps" or "data/apps" folder to put apks.)
That worked.
Thank you so much for all of your help with that. I was so frustrated. Now I just have to get the other issues worked out. Searching the forum for those.
HELP!!! I'm going crazy! I've put the nookcolor tools 0.2apk on my sdcard, then using root explorer am i suppoused to copy, or move the apk from my sdcard to system/apps, or to data/apps? So far i've tried both & nothing, what am i doing wrong? I'm rooted with autonooter & the market works fine, i just need to get nookcolor tools. One more thing, when they say reboot, that means back out of root explorer, & manually hold down the power button, & then turn it back on right? quickboot does not work, so this is all i can think of =' (

copy it to system/apps. Rebooting means hold power button down till a prompt asking if you would like to power down the device comes up. Hit yes. Device is now off. Hold power button again till it starts up. Release power button. It's booting up again....hence the term rebooting.

"Not Enough Free Space"in system/app dir?

I'm trying to cut and paste the Amazon Appstore APK to my system/app directory, by way of Super Manager on my Auto Nooted 3.0 Nook Color. When I cut the Amazon APK from my SD card (downloaded by way of Dropbox) and try to paste it into my system/app folder, I get a "Not Enough Free Space" popup, and the apk is automatically copied into the system directory only.
I did select R/W when prompted by Super Manager.
There's plenty of space left on the device. What am I doing wrong that is causing me to get this free space error?
Thanks for your help.
Space on the device, and space on the partition are two very different things. I use Root Explorer, and that tells you exactly how much space is available in the partition...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Still should be plenty of space. There's nothing but the rooted OS and about 10 apps. Regardless I'll check using another utility.
I'll try a reboot as well.
Thanks for the quick reply.
You need root and need to set the folder to r/w to write to that directory.
You should really be putting that file in the data/app folder instead.

I don't know if this will help you or not but I'm rooted v1.1.0_r2 and here's what I did:
(I already had apps Installer on my NC - from the Android Market - I thin it is free)
1 - move the apk form desktop to nook via dropbox
2 - moved the apk to the root of the SD card
3- run Apps Installer
That's it! Amazon AppStore works well.

[Q] Can anyone explain this rooting guide better? [Android 4.4 / Teclast X98]

Alright so I'm dealing with a X98 Air ll that is dual boot - Windows and Android.
Android has the problem of GOOGLE PLAY STORE is not working, like at all.
The developers are aware of this but only linked to a thread on this forum, here's the guide on how to solve my problem, supposedly:
http://www.teclast.com/en/Information/newspic/image141216.jpg .. Since I'm a newbie on forums I can't post images so heres the full guide provided by user Frontier:
Anyone having issues with Google Play Store - this applies to both Air 3G with the latest 2.0.1 update (will post more information later) and Air II - please apply this fix.
Your OS should be rooted in order for this to work (I used X98 Toolbox to root my X98 Air 3G, simply connect the tablet to the PC, double-click on 1_Toolbox.bat and press 'E' on the menu).
- Download the files from here.
- Copy the .apk files to a folder on your microSD card.
- Go to Settings > Apps and uninstall Google Play Store.
- Install using the supplied .apk's the following (in this order): Google Play Services, Google Play Store and Link2SD.
- Go to Link2SD, find Google Play Store > Actions > Convert into system app.
- When the conversion is complete, reboot the tablet.
You should find that Google Play store works now, if you still have issues clear ALL it's data and re-enter your account information.

Okay so, this guide is really vaguely written and really hard to understand.
First off, connecting the tablet and downloading the files, running 1_Toolbox.bat and pressing E only refreshes the bat window. It doesn't give any confirmation or anything.. So I guess I move on ?
1) I downloaded the files.
2) I put the .apk files on the microSD card.
3)THERE IS NO UNINSTALL Google Play Store. No applications under "App". None. Zilch. Zero. I reset to factory settings and still no app to uninstall.
4) Did I miss a part where you put the microSD into the tablet? Because I did that but the tablet doesn't register it. Do I install it from the PC?
5) The MicroSD isn't registered, under Storage -> it also doesn't give me an option to browse the microSD.
In general, this whole guide is really written vaguely and written by, and to, someone who has development knowledge.
For a noob (At least to developming) this guide is REALLY bad.
Can anyone help me explaining what I should do ?

At least its a guide and "could be improved a little bit". If google apps are system apps already you can't uninstall the apks without a dedicated app. Titanium Backup (e.g. for uninstalling system apps) and Total Commander(File manager e.g. for browsing sd card) are very usefull. Just copy the needed apks to your phone's storage and open them to install. You don't need to use a micro sd card for it

Ahh now we getting somewhere. I am learning a lot of things. I had an app called file explorer - from there, I could see what's on the internal and what's on the SD. From there, I installed Total Commander and Titanium Backup.
Total Commander works and gives me a great outlook of what's on the SD cart and internal.
Titanium Backup seems like a weird app. I don't think I can do anything because I don't have it rooted (?? EDIT: Pic ). I think I have to follow this guide, it's a ROM (??) that I have to install. Once installed, or the bios flashed (??) I will have to use Titanium Backup to uninstall Google Play Store I presume ?
Thanks for the help so far!

Okay, first I tried to do it by downloading it and running it from PC. I opened debug mode, let it download, etc, and on the phone it opens a chinese app.. I did uninstall some apps, but a lot remain.
So I tried to download the .apk manually and that resulted it in trying to root as well, but it fails to root and just returns to chinese text.
I still fail to root my device
EDIT: Trying something
Using this guide I made it work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL-SV8UatOU&feature=youtu.be
