Description: Were you a Treo 650 user? Miss the old threaded "Chat Style" of the text messages? Well, you don't have to be sad any longer! With the SMS Threader application, you can now send and receive your text messages just like you used to! The program will even automatically open even if it's not running! All threads are automatically backed up as HTML files, for easy viewing on any machine!
PS - If the program does not function correctly after installation, your device may need a soft reset.
Thanks, i'will give it a try.
looks good, fonts is a bit small on the message text and can't see a way of making it larger
I have had a couple of crashes when trying to select the message thread with my stylus (which did not open it) and by then using the action button.
I have been after this app for ages so thanks for the post
Paul
great to see SMSs like IMs, its the application I never knew I needed.
Only prob is the character counter doesn't seem to count the characters, staying at "0/160" even when a message is typed.
Also, annoyingly when in a convo the "X"/"OK" button is not present, forcing you to click Options >> Close to exit the convo. Though there seems to be options to "close after response" etc so this might not be so annoying
PocketCM also does a similar thing and in my opinion has a great interface. A must have application IMHO (http://www.pocketcm.com/)
True, the way this is done in Pocketcm is really good. I used it for a while but the rest of the program isn't what i expected from a good contact manager.
I have been using shogunmark_wm6_threaded and it has been perfect so far.
How do these compare to IMSMS, which I find works very nicely -
@argoldst
palm threaded app working perfectly on kaiser? did u manage to make mms feature to work? which rom are you using? would be great to get this all working
After a nights use of the OP app I found it to be a little annoying, for the following reasons:
1. Constant notification alerts in the top bar, even when I have read the thread. This means your constantly "dismissing" an alert, just to see if the thread has been updated with a new SMS
2. The alerts didn't popup over my full screen app (TomTom) which was annoying as I had to minimise TomTom just to check if I had a SMS or not. Default notifications popup over full screen apps AFAIK.
3. All new message go into the thread, but not into the Default Messaging list, so attempts to bypass it are impossible.
Think I will try some of the other threaded SMS apps listed here.
Am I the only one only looking for a little program that automatically threads all my EXISTING SMS's?? Everybody talks about these SMS Threaders that only thread SMS's sent within that program.
CMContacts is better; it looks at my existing SMS database but I do not need another contacts app (FingerFriendlyFriends is THE BEST contact manager for my purposes...) on my Kaiser!
The best solution would be a sort of a threader-plugin on the existing messaging-application, but as far as I know that does not exist...
Just my 2cts!
Does it transfer the sms's already in your inbox to the threaded program? Or does it not? Does it replace your inbox as the Palm Messaging app, or does it only add a new app? Thx
I cant find "CMContacts" anywhere
Do you have a link to this "CMContacts" software?

the version i downloaded automatically sets your defeault SMS to the palm one, and it replaces my old inbox with the new palm one. Basically i installed it and it became my default SMS application automatically. Only downside to palm threaded app is that you cant use on-screen key boards very effectively, they all cover up the txt input box in a convo. message. Except when you write a new message.
and to Eddythepeddy: i believe it will thread all of your existing SMS...hmm could be wrong about this tho, for me it only threaded my sent messages

Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes, everything works perfectly including mms.
The only negative to it is that the txt will not thread until you reply. For examlpe, if you get in 4 sms from Jane but never replied, it will show up as 4 different sms. Once you reply, they will all fall into a single chat (threaded sms) and will stay like that. You ONLY have to reply once to get all future (and past) sms's to thread.

anything special you did to get mms to work correctly? I (and most people here) get a memory error when trying to send mms.
You can get all sms to thread regardless under options. There should be a setting to thread all messages.
Hello, I am a very txt heavy person and i was just wondering if anyone knows of an option or software that acts like the blackberry message service, where it shows ALL the texts between you and the person (sorta like the facebook -wall to wall- feature).
Thank you.
Pocket CM does this kinda, maybe not exactly what your looking for but worth a look
Palm SMS is also very good.
Ahhh, you mean threaded SMS conversation!
Well, by default, WM6 doesn't have threading feature on its messaging application.
But if you'd like to thread your SMS, you could use the two alternatives mentioned here. And a few others.
Palm Threading SMS is awesome. I can't give you a link to it unfortunately, but if you snoop around this forum, I'm sure you'll find your way to the file.
Another one that's free, it's developed by a member here, is the IMSMS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333619
Give PocketCM, Palm (I prefer this), and IMSMS a try. But I find that Palm's Threaded SMS has a very nice (maybe the best) integration to the operating system. Meaning, it's installation on top of (not overwritting the default one, just overlaying) the default messaging application is very nice.
Thanks alot for the help, but the only problem with Palm SMS (im using shogunmark vrs.) is that it doesnt vibrate or notify me with a sound when i get a text message...so i have to always keep checking to see if i got any new ones.
Is there a fix for this? or am i using a wrong version or something?
Thanks in advance!

I'd look in Settings -> Sounds & Notifications and change it there. It's not really a program-specific setting, though it may make some changes. I've also found that it doesn't seem like changes stick around through a soft reset (sometimes). I can't explain that, and I'm no guru so it may be my fault anyway.

Umm, yeah, there is a separate notification event for the Palm threaded SMS than the normal message. But you set it in the same place. And yes, you can assign any ringtone to it or have it vibrate or both like any other notification.
It may not be obvious, cuz it gets cut off in the listbox. See selected Event in the attached pic.
As mentioned above. You get there via:
Settings | Sounds & Notifications | Notifications tab

Thanks jomo25, but the problem persists...i went to sounds & notifications and it shows that there is a sound notification and that it will vibrate with new incoming sms...but it doesnt do that...should i try a soft reset?
and did any of you guys notice that txts were getting delayed because of palm sms? as in...they take longer for you to recieve a text that someone sent?
If you've done that, then I don't know what the issue is. I've been using Palm threaded app for a long time and I get my SMS's "on time" and it does notify me per my settings. If anything, an SMS might be delayed by about 5 seconds. But no more than that.
You can try a soft reset. No harm in doing that. But it shouldn't matter. (Just an FYI - I do use MemMaid and I do a soft reset maybe every other day to keep the memory "clean". Just like a PC needs a reboot occasionally, most WM devices benefit similarly.)
One las thing - I keep the Palm app "minimized". I don't completely close it. If it's not running, it'll still fire up but could also delay getting the message by another 10 secs or so, cuz it needs to fire up the app. So, it's OK to close it completely, but since memory on the Kaiser is generous, its OK to leave it open also. And make sure not to completely close it immediately after sending a message. Sometimes it'll get stuck in the Outbox. Other than, no issues, with Palm, and I send and receive dozens of messages a day.

I did everything you said, but no luck...and i have been notified by my friends that they have sent me several sms's and i never got them at all, let alone have the sms delayed by over 10 minutes (average). I really like the app, but it's causing too many problems so i'm gonna uninstall it and try something else.
Thanks for your help anyway
All of your problems seem to be phone/carrier specific; that's my guess. Threaded SMS works fine on my ATT Tilt. I get all text's, fast, and with sound/vibrate notification.
Maybe it's your modded ROM.

I have the HTC TYTN 2, with the OEM ROM...i have not done 1 mod to it...weird.
Yes, VERY odd. It has worked for many other users as well.
I was wondering if there was an app that lets you have keeps your messages grouped together from the sender like on the iphone thanks
A lot of people like PocketCM. It has threaded messaging:
http://www.pocketcm.com/
You can also search for Palm Threaded SMS .. Its been made to kinda work on the PocketPC.
????
I've got pocketcm And it's a great app. sms works good and looks good and is different......
What is it about the iphone text app that you like?
I like the shogun threaded sms app. It's on the forums here. I think it's named shogun_cingy_threaded.cab.

already posted in this thread, try all three of these applications. i am using the palm threaded sms and it works great. it replaces your current default msging app. use it at your own risk, make backup before installing it.
alternatively, u could try touchpal. google to find it...
I downloaded the zip file and i like how it runs smoothly. How can i get the black/grey background because i have a white one and also the letters are kind of small is there a way of enlargin them
i apreciate it i tried that pockcm its ok like to see someone put out something a little handier

You have to be more specific, are you using rom based or cab install, which program are you using to restore?
Im using rom based Manilla Hyperdragon, restored 250+ sms fine but, restoring emails don't work well (manilla sees the emials but outlook doesnt just blank and you cant create them because it says they already exist using sktools restore. So I just restore sms with pimbackup.
I am using HDIII and using PIMBACKUP. I restored abt 2500 sms and it fails to launch..

lol damn, that is a lot I have no idea because i never used to save sms just started 2 weeks ago, maybe someone else has same prob.
+1 Same issue here, any solution for this issue ?
i have over 6000 messages currently and i started having such trouble when the count was around 4000 messages. i've flashed ROMs many times before that and many times after that point. but i ALWAYS kept the text messaging tab in manila DISABLED, so the problem might have actually occurred at ANY point in time before the 4000 messages mark but i only accidentally found out about it when i left the messaging tab enabled by mistake when i was using TPC's ROMs near the end of 2008.
long story short, in my case the problem is because of one or more "bad" messages that manila doesn't seem to like. in my case, manila2d would start up but ALL of it would be black/blank. i certainly didn't want to go through thousands of messages to try to pinpoint which particular message(s) were causing the issue.
to make the whole thing even shorter, just disable the messaging tab (using M2DC) and see if manila2d starts up correctly. if not, it might be some other problem. if it does start, you're better off without the messaging tab because i feel that personal stuff like messages shouldn't be so easily accessible and readable in the home screen.
i know its not much of a solution but at least you can continue to use the rest of manila2d with no other issues with the messaging tab disabled.
Hey i was curious if there is any software that can be used for the kaiser. i used to have a treo which was nice because i could see the whole text messages. anything that would show a time stamp and previoyus comment
Cameron
It's called threaded SMS and if you have WM6.1, you should have it. If not, there are several program out there that could do it for you.
I use this program since I only have WM6. http://www.birdsoft.biz/extremetext.htm
Its a stand alone app that basically just references your regular message inbox and then groups all your sms by contact name to give a threaded feel. It shows time stamps, contact pictures if they are assigned one, and even allows for hyperlinks to be clicked on if one is sent in your sms. What I really like about this app is that it does NOT whatsoever mess with your sms inbox settings or your mms settings or anything like some other threading apps. If you dont like it, no problem, just uninstall and nothing has changed from before.
Only thing is, that if you do recieve a MMS then the picture wont show, you will have to then launch your normal message inbox to view it.
Heres how it looks. Sorry if I went a little overboard but I looked so hard and tried almost every SMS threader out there and I like this one the best. I dont know about you, but I like to know how something really works before I buy/install it.
