My diamond wakes up on random intervals without any obvious reason. It is just laying on the table and all of a suddent the screen wakes up. I press the power button ot sleep it again and in a few secounds it happens again. After that is might stay sleeing for hour or two, then it wakes again. It is annoying because I don't currently use any lock, and if it wakes up while in my pocket, I start dialing people and starting programs.
Any clue ?
P.S. I have made 2-3 ROM replacements in the past. First I did some custom ROMS, but now I am using the official one from HTC.com.
Wake up...
Sounds like some third party software is causing this. Search the forum because I remember someone posting this very same issue. May be there is an answer to your question here already?
I'm recently experiencing the same problem! Although wake up on new sms is turned off the phone wakes up when a new message comes in and a few times it just wakes up for no reason?! ive never had this problem before and installed no new third party software so what could it be?
I was having exactly the same issue after upgrading my Htc Touch Diamond's rom to the recent official rom. Untill now !
I just figured out that my phone frequently wakes up due to the cell broadcast messages received from the channel 050 (location info) which is regularly updated by the network provider.
And I just unchecked the location info (city/district name) channel code (050), and the problem is solved. !
to turn it off:
Start menu - settings - phone - More - Broadcast Channels - Settings -
uncheck 050.
PPC PimBackUp
I have PPC PimBackUp scheduled for midnight backing up of SMS, speed dials, etc.... it turns on the screen as expected, but there isn't any window/progress bar showing the program is backing up stuff. Got me the first time around.. not sure if that could be the case for some...
And not sure if I read about this somewhere.. try disabling "Today timeout: x hr" in settings > personal > today > items
Mine does this too.
Only started recently and not installed any new apps prior to it happening.
Broadcasting isnt enabled anyway on mine.
Just turned off the today timeout to see if that helps....

I've got mine to check email at regular intervals - but it won't wake up from standby to check mail. Does yours?
I did do something rash, I fear - used scarybears check notifications to clear all but 4 notifications, at which point activesync didn't recognize the device. I fixed that by adding a new notification (memmaid) but I wonder if screwing with the notifications has messed other things up. Any thoughts?

yes it is since yours is the only one messed up lol.. Guess leson learned huh
OK I tested this and my phone just retrieves all the mail, I send myelf several emals to several accounts and most of my intervals are set to 60 min and it gets retrieved (in standby mode).
I also have the same problem. Tried hard resetting but still no email check in standby mode. I have not installed any custom software in the device.
Any help would be much appreciated.
BTW: Also can it be the device?
Finally isolated the problem - fix?
Using ATT and if I have the band selection on AUTO and if the phone changes from 3G to EDGE back and forth the automatic email checking suddenly stops. But if I leave it on one band the email checking works flawlessly. I would really appreciate if someone could shed some light on this matter.
I just noticed yesterday that my email was also not coming in until after I took the phone off sleep.

So I am not alone on this.
I experience the exact thing. Moment I take it off standby mode it says connecting .... and so on.
I am trying everything under the sun will update if I get lucky. Although exchange mail gets delivered no matter what.

So what'd you do to fix this? According to your modaco posting, you found the solution. Was it the hard reset?
I have only had my TyTN II for 10 days and now I'm getting this problem!
I am also trying to find a solution.
So far, I have uninstalled SBP Phone Suite, as their support forum talks about it messing up the Notification Queue - i.e. blocking new notifications. THis hasn't made any noticeable difference though.
I am left with the three installs that were supplied with the device - TTN6, GPRS Monitor (SPB software branded by HTC) and Sprite Backup....surely, if these are bundled with the device they shouldn't cause any disturbances?
Anyway....considering a Hard Reset unless anyone makes any breakthroughs....
Does this make sense?
I have my scheduled email check set at 15 minutes:
If I have new mail: it doesn't notify me, and seems to get stuck waiting to download the emails. Result: when I power-up it then starts downloading the emails and shortly notifies me of their arrival
If I have no new mail: it does notify me that I still have x number of unread emails in my inbox.
My only conclusion so far is that if it detects new emails on the server it cannot download them until you pull it out of sleep. Else it just checks as per the schedule and will notify you that you still have unread (previously downloaded) mail.

Kavi, please can you confirm if you "solved" the problem by fixing your band selection to EDGE? Obviously, this isn't an ideal workaround (when we've all spent a lot of dough on this device), but may help us narrow down the issue somewhat.
Still working on this issue. Figured out what the problem is but still no solution.
The sleep mode is termed as "Turn off device if not used..." in the power settings.
It receives calls fine AND wakes the phone while in this mode.
I configured my WLAN on the phone. When woken from sleep mode, I noticed that it was disconnected from the WLAN and connected to EDGE. The "E" would appear and then it'd change to show that it was re-connecting to the WLAN.
I found it strange that 1. It switched off the WLAN and onto EDGE during sleep and 2. It could not receive emails while on EDGE.
I turned the sleep mode off and once the backlight dimmed to indicate sleeping I shot myself a test email. Received no problem.
I turned the sleep mode off AND the disconnected from WLAN. No email.
So, for some reason, while on EDGE or, in my case, the AT&T data network, no email is coming thru.
Could it be something not properly configured for the data network or is there something on the phone that needs to be changed? *SHRUG* My investigation continues...
Finally found the solution but it could be valid only for my device. (finally I could get some sleep now ;-)
If I press the power button and put it into standby mode no emails at all. If I let it go into standby mode automatically then no problems at all.
I tested so many different settings but this is the only solution I found to work and the device has been checking mail every 10 minutes for the past 30 hours with no issues at all.
Give it a shot might work for you too.
Is this issue only related to POP email? Or is this occuring for Exchange Push as well?

First I thought exchange worked but in my case if I put it into standby mode even exchange push will not work.
But if I let it go to sleep automatically everything works fine.
Hi. some observations.
1) In my device Direct push works correctly when I turn off the device using the button.
2) Sometimes System Notifications (Stored on System queue) doesnt work correctly until I turn on the device.
3) Some programs that should react upon Radio events like CommMgrPro that should awake when GSM Cell changes arent notified by Windows until I turn on the device. It seems some events cant raise power mode from suspended to idle. It works correctly on TyNT and Athena.

Hmmm.. Exchange works for me when the device is asleep... I even have the phone set to vibrate when mail come in.
I have not yet set up a pop account though.. I'll give it a shot.
I'm working with POP3.
Getting closer to the resolution.
It was, in fact, that my data services connection was incorrectly configured for AT&T. The access point was set to "isp.cingular" instead of "wap.cingular". Username was also incorrect. Once I reset that, I was connected fine.
My problem now is that the connection is intermittent. If it sleeps, it's as if it loses connectivity. This is an auto-sleep sleep.
I also noticed that the read emails get tossed out as the new email arrives...hmmm...another issue.
For a few weeks my phone has been giving me "out of memory" errors upon waking from standby. There's always plenty of ram left and all of my programs work just fine, but it's annoying to have to close that error window when I'm trying to answer a call or check a message. The frequency of the error messages has been increasing over time, and recently now I have a new problem. The backlight timeout and power settings standby timeout are randomly setting themselves to settings other than I had them on.
Does anyone know what may cause these issues? Or how I can find them? I haven't been able to associate the issues with the installation of any software.
I'm using a Hyperdragon III ROM from a month or two ago and radio ROM 1.65.20.29.
ive been recently having similiar problems where my phone will set it clock forward an hour randomly (really annoying alarm in the morning) and somtimes the backlight will just randomly turn on and stay on. im crediting this to the rom i loaded, and its just something u have to deal with. if u get too frusturated try another rom, but reloading everything is time consuming
I tried searching, honest.
A couple of times a week I would wake up and notice that the Diamond screen is on and of course the power level is low. Something is waking up the device in the middle of the night. Any ideas what it may be?
As far as I know I have no scheduled tasks:
- I don't even have email set up
- ActiveSync is completely manual
- I have klaxxon installed but no alarms set up
- no other alarms
- no scheduled backups
Is there a program that logs events on the PPC so I can see what causes it to wake up?
Hmm
Well maybe it needs to go to the bathroom or sumting?
Did you check if ur Broadcast channels or not on maybe? Under Phone/ Settings/More If its on it will happen if it switches to another reception tower
I have noticed this once or twice on both my Diamond and the girlfriend's Ignito, once I just happend to notice both screens come on at the same time and it was dead on midnight!! I couldn't explain it and to my knowledge it hasn't happened again on my Diamond but the ignito seems to do it once a blue moon!!
Rich
I shall stay up and watch it at midnight to see what happens.
Has anyone used acbtaskman? I read that it has logging capabilities which may shed some light on this.

nice pun there
when got incoming sms, diamond will wake up.
Maybe u had enable this feature.
maybe he wants some milk
i think if your phone loses signal and regains it, the screen will turn on. IF that's the case...why doesn't it turn off? So it might not be that... :/
if not SMS and not task something, maybe phone call by lovely girl every night when she thinking about u, and she close the call fast..
Hello,
is it just me - every night at 00:00 my diamond2 comes out from standby and switches on. But never goes back to standby again. I have to do it manually.
under power settings i have that turn off device if not used - 1min
rom- 1.39.405.2 (47382)wwe
radio- 3.43.25.19
protocol- 61.20t.25.10U
Same problem with all my HTC phones !
I use S2U2, Backlight goes off after 1 minute then S2U2 takes over.
Never found other solution.
Hi.
This is a standard feature of Windows Mobile. The Device turns on to check on the upcoming appointments and if I remember correctly, the alarms are refreshed.
Best way is to use something like s2u2 or set the turnoff on battery and power right to some serious value.
Regards Thorsten

Ok, but the device should change into Standby-Mode again. Am I right?
right.
it should after the time you configured.
wit s2u2 you can set it seperately.
I've the same problem.
Also, in the morning, when I use the phone for the first time of the day, it wants to send a bug report because opera has crashed (during the night).
I can't figure out what launches opera in the night. I 've UN-installed Microsoft MyPhone.
Regards,
Olivier.
I have the same problem too, but I thought it had to do with G-Alarm.
I've also S2u2 installed, never thought it had to do with that program, because I'm not sure I've noticed this problem before I've installed G-Alarm.
yeah - it can be G-Alarm - I have it also installed - ver.2.0.6
I have installed G-Alarm, too.
But I never have seen my device to STAY on after the 0:00 turn-on.
It will turn off nearly instantly afterwards.
There are separate settings for auto-switchoff for battery power and mains power. Perhaps the mains power one is unticked?
both settings are ticked - but no change
The issue im speaking of is the actual home screen clock. Every morning I have to re set it because it ends up becoming off by a few hours. I searched this forum and couldnt find anything. I had also posted the question in the Energy rom thread, but it kept getting swamped out by random question. Im running a tilt 2 FYI.
Any help appreciated, thanx

Did you set your time zone? Did you turn on or off internet time sync? Did you uncheck get time from network under phone settings? Any of these could be the cause of your problems...
Im feeling really dumb this morning...My alarm didnt go off this morning because of this same problem. And I cant for the life of me figure out hwo to make sure the clock is auto updating to the network.
Im running Energy Cookie Reference. I have seen the settings before...but cant locate them today.
Time synchronization?
Hi.
Do you have the automatic time synchronization on? Try to disable it.
Settings -> Personal -> Phone ->
or
Sense settings tab -> data services -> internet time sync ->
Hey thanks for the response...my settings are different though. I found the setting in BSB Tweaks and turned it off...only time will tell if it helps though...we will see if my phone fails to wake me up again tomorrow...
Left Energy yet again because of this issue...I dont know a whole lot about the technicalities but it seemed to me that the phone is 'going to sleep' and actually losing track of the time thus keeping my alarm from sounding in the mornings.
When I hit the power button to wake the screen up in the mornings it would be displaying a time that was hours behind and seemingly random (what lead me to believe the phone was in a deeper sleep than normal). Possibly a really stupid theory...but like I said I dont know a whole lot. I just know it was way unacceptable in my case.
I will still monitor his threads like always and try the latest and greatest ROMS.
Clock Issue with Energy romArrow
I think the problem you are having is the windows alarm bug. I used to get this all the time until i started using g-alarm. it fixes the issue when you first install it. (note that its a paid app.) but here is the description and the registry edit that you need to change to fix the problem.
can't post the link soo you will need to copy and paste the url below if you want to view the webpage.
ageye.de/index.php?s=galarm/support/manual/limitations
Windows alarm bug
Windows Mobile has on some devices a strange behaviour: Although an alarm is successfully added to the WM notification queue (it's like a scheduler) it doesn't go off.
Searching the web gave me following information:
At midnight WM rebuilds the notification queue, therefore it wakes up for about 15 seconds. If the notification queue is too big or the device too slow WM goes to sleep again before it could finish building the queue for the next day.
If you force WM too stay awake for a longer time, it should successfully build the queue on at least more devices.
If you start G-Alarm and it complains about the Windows alarm bug, you've got the default WM settings (15 seconds WakeUpTime). If you press "Yes" G-Alarm changes it to 120 seconds which should be enough.
Here are the registry values G-Alarm changes:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Timeouts\ACResumingSuspendTimeout
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Timeouts\BattResumingSuspendTimeout
