Kaiser sleep function does strange things... (FIXED) - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

After I did a hard reset, a strange problem appeared.
When I press the power button to put the device in sleep, it does, but after 4-5 seconds it automaticly switches back on.
I tried several things such as soft resetting the device, close all running programs and even another hard reset, but it won't work. I didn't install any programs so far...
More information about my ROM version etc.

I hope someone knows something I can try...

i see you have already tried the following but i'm going to write down how i would go about debugging the problem anyway. first, i would try the following steps in the following order to ensure it is not a software issue (it seems you have already eliminated the possibility that this is a software issue):
0. ensure you are using the correct hard SPL for your ROM. if you have never flashed a custom ROM and if you are using the ROM that came with your phone factory installed, you need not worry about this step or step 2 onwards
1. hard reset your phone and check the behavior of the sleep button BEFORE installing ANY of your favorite cabs and software...you have already done this
2. it is recommended to re-download the ROM image and re-flash it to minimize the possibility of a corrupted download or a bad flash
3. it is also recommended to hard reset your phone immediately after flashing the ROM at the point where it says "tap here to begin", i.e. before the screen alignment wizard
4. once again, test the behavior of the sleep button BEFORE installing ANY of your favorite cabs and software
now lets assume it is a hardware issue...here is a nugget of information that might help you. i remember reading a thread here started by a person who described a problem very similar to yours. it involved a "stuck" camera button. you see, the camera button is TWO-stage...and if the half-press stage is "stuck", your phone will never go to sleep properly. search for this thread for more information.
finally, if this is indeed a hardware issue, it seems strange that it appeared only after you did that very first hard reset...but life is full of coincidences !
good luck!

thanks for your suggestions, I will try them and post results.

no success
I tried the things you suggested, but it doesn't work. I also tried the power button when it says "tap your device..." but the device woke up after 4-5 seconds also.
I checked my buttons (especially the camera button, but that one seems to be well... I can feel the two "clicks" and I can take a picture in a normal way)
I'm thinking it might be a ROM problem or something like that... (but my problem is, if I want to go back to the previous official HTC ROM, the 6.0 one, I probably have to use HardSPL, but I don't like that much because of warranty...)
Ok other question... Can I install the Dutch Vodafone ROM on a non-branded HTC device, or could I get VendorID errors or something similar if I want to keep the original SPL?

fixed!
Ok, I fixed it after installing HardSPL 3.29 and flashing the latest WWE ROM...
Now my power button works perfectly!

Weird Problems & Diamond almost dead (software/ROM)

Some days ago, i've flashed my phone to get an "up-to-date" ROM. I chose "PDACornerIllusion 21139" of 2009.03.06. All went fine excepting the keyboard of my GPS wont work anymore (dunno why of course), so i re-flashed with another ROM.
I was surprised that my phone kept the CornerIllusion BootScreen, but i didnt care.
All of a sudden, after having soft reset the ROM i chose (the 2nd one), for an installation of some proggie. The ROM restart as brand new asking me to reset the screen, the clock, date etc... losing all my content and customizations. Then i couldnt sync with Outlook after the first sync i've done minutes ago (error code 800004005). I've decided to soft-reset the phone, and now, TF3D wont even start, (it selft tries to start several times, then gives up), AND the programs lists is all broken, no shortcuts left and the games folder is named *h1/4Eg+ç^, nothing works anymore.
I flashed with about 4 roms (including Aztor one), resulting in the same mess.
Does it have something to do with the first one "PDACornerIllusion 21139" and its still remaining BootScreen?
Can i flash my phone from its roots, to get rid of this ?
As it's maybe not the "fault" of PDACornerIllusion, i write this in this section of the Diamond general thread and made a double post at PDACornerIllusion development thread
I suggest you perform a hard reset before flashing any new rom and that you use the traditional "flash-from-PC-using-ActiveSync-connection" method to flash.
And above all I wish you luck!
What was the other ROM you flashed? I am curious.
rondol1 suggests you hard reset prior to flashing a new rom. I suggest you hard reset after flashing a new rom. Net result is probaby much the same. You could even just do a hard reset now with whatever is loaded and things will probably improve. Main thing is...whenever you flash a rom do a hard reset straight after loading it. I always do this religiously and with the exception of one recent rom I tried I have never had a problem.
First of all, thank you both for trying to suggest hints, i really appreciate it.
I've never hard reset the ROM before or after having installed a new one. I never have a problem before.
For the last 2 months, i was on NEON 1.28, then i've decided it was time to update seeing the new features of the more up-to-date ROMs
I've just reflashed it (an hour ago) with PDACornerIllusion 21139, i've hard reseted before and after. let's see how it turns out ....
I've tried NATALY, CLOUDY, MORNA & AZTOR, no luck with any of them, all died after a soft reset or after the 1st sync (reconnecting for a 2nd sync).
Maybe the problem comes from the very root of the phone (like BIOS in a PC, dunno), maybe something in there got corrupted. How to repair it if my guess exists and is it repairable?

There in lies the problem.
I bet you will be fine from now on. Don't ask why you need to do the hard reset - as no one has been able to give a definitive answer - But it is a well known step that many chefs recommend post flash - just do it from now on and you wont regret it.

completely agree with logger - hard reset after you flash any ROM. I haven't used PDACorner - so can't say for sure... but do the flash via CustomRUU once... when the new ROM is flashed... do a hard reset as soon as it's complete..
good luck!
let's see then, >>>>crossing fingers<<<<
I've had this happen a lot lately as well. Might have something to do with the newer SYS? Anyway, hard reseting hasn't always fixed it for me. However, flashing back to the Sprint stock ROM (or HTC stock for you GSM guys) then flashing a new custom ROM has always done the trick. Maybe because the stock ROMs are bigger and "clean" out the memory somehow? At any rate, flash stock and then you're good to go. No permanent damage.
no luck, after a 2nd soft-reset, the phone is asking "touch the screen to configure for the 1sy use blablabla", all data's lost again & again...
what do you mean by stock Rom ? the rom that came with my phone when i've bought it ?
I've got the same problem with the Diamond rebooting like a hard-reset. But I always did a hard-reset after a fresh install. I blamed it on the rom and tried several others, including donsalari's "Clean Basic Rom", the Gen.Y Sense 2.1 and 2.5 versions and an older Aztor rom. Same problem every time, the first reboot after changing the device locale works fine, then I set the whole phone up properly and on the next reboot it will come up as if had performed a hard reset.
Additionally, the file system on my internal storage got corrupted somehow, had to reformat. At some point, I also had the impression that data on the phone memory got lost gradually. First the Contact's numbers got replaced by some nonsense characters, then there were numbers and contacts missing, and finally I had no contacts at all. ActiveSync stopped working so I was in the middle of a trip without my phonebook...
I've got two hypotheses:
1) The Gen.Y bootloader messed with the phone (Had tried the Sense 2.5 Gen.Y rom before donsalari's)
2) Flash controller or Flash itself is broken
@dunnno: I suggest you rename the thread to something like "diamond hard-resets on 2nd reboot after rom install"
edit: oops, just realised I resurrected a very old thread... Maybe there's a fix already?
My diamond still suffers from this problem. I tried it again and again with different roms but everytime, at some point all my configuration is lost and the diamond reboots like after a fresh install. Can anyone please help?
I'm having this problem as well :|
Grr, I have to rely on my phone for so much, but it just doesn't want to work correctly.
Help is immensely appreciated.
Well, I got mine to work, I just flashed the stock HTC ROM and everything has gone back to normal. H3PO, I suggest you give that a shot if you are still having problems.
I had these problems when I first started flashing my Diamond with custom roms.
Now I always flash my carrier stock rom first, then hard reset, then flash custom rom, then hard reset and I never have any problems. I have no idea why flashing the stock rom first stops the problems but I haven't had any problems with the dozens of roms I've flashed using this method.
Also I always flash from internal storage, but others prefer using MTTY
I still have some problems with the Contact Database, but flashing some stock O2 Rom solved the "reboot as new" problem.

Unable to Load Bootloader

I have tried hitting record + power + reset and still no dice.
I did this last Jan to my BA with few problems, put in the wm6.1
Wanting to install this one WM6.5
I also installed the Wizard Service Tool and it doesnt seem to work. It will give me info but the hard reset and other rom features don't want to work.
is there a workaround for gettin to the bootloader? Or should I take this all as a sign not to brik my phone? ;D
thanks,

hi , i'm new on the forum...i think i've the same problem, on my PDA2K..
I try to install a new rom from wm2003se, using a file called "preparazione BA"( i think i've unlocked the extrom), then i normally setup with the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe..But now, when the upgrading is completed to wm6, i'm not able to load the bootoption..i can see 4 colour bands (green blue red white) but no option to boot. The rec+photo+reset seem not to work.
Could anyone help me\us??
Regards at all
Davide
after 2 hours..here are some news: my pda2k display became with the 4 color but there was writen something about R none, G none and (version onf the rom i tryed to install) then pressing rec+cam i saw for little fraction of second the menu enable kitl ,clean registry, etc.. and then suddenly the wm6 starts. After installing the OS ask me to reset..Well, it return to the same 4 color, and the only word i see is R1.11.00
I'm getting crazy...
Please big chef tony help me!
i don't know what to do now...i'm little down
Davide
...lol maybe because I dont do this often enough, but this case was solved with a little bit of RTFM!
I didnt realize I was pressing the wrong fsking button! derr!
Here is Chef Tony's post...should carve it into my desk!

Hello, my ppc always dispays the four band with R1.11.00 written..After a lot of reset(often unplugging battery) and photo+rec, i was rarely able to display the boot option, but here is strange what is written(attached photo n°2): R None, G None, D 1.21 Michy.. Then pushing "mail" the OS start installing wm6, then, it ask me to boot so i would be able executing extrom to install cab file.It resets and then it appears the famous four band with R1.11.00
Any idea??
I've finished mine....Aww!!
Regards
Davide
P.s. think it's important: my bootloader is v 2.08
i've solved my problem..reading on other forums, they suggest to install a rom WM5, where there was radio upgrade too..After i was able to install WM6.1 ! Now..i have to wait..and crossing my fingers!
Thank you all, if anybody has question ask me, i'll happy to help you

Nothing strange about what is in photo #2! That is the debugger screen.
Looks like you got it rolled back to the original ROM but if you decide to put the latest stable ROM 6.5 on there you're going to have to follow the Chef's directions in the above supplied link.
Good luck,
Chela
glad you found it out, you are right, there was something wrong with the radio, which is why in screenshot #1 there is only the radio listed and i think that's also why in #4 the comm icons are red, i've never seen that before, but could also be a custom skin in that rom.
brujeria is right, there is nothing wrong with the 2nd and 3rd screenshot, except for the 2nd one only showing the rom and no radio or protocol, meaning that the device was probably resetted by pulling out the battery and not pushing the reset pin with the stylus, unless that was also a radio issue.
unless you already started customizing your device you should probably think about hard resetting it once again and trying if that works, or even re-flash the rom, without flashing the radio, that way you'd know for sure, if from now on you'll always have to flash a "baked rom" (usually a term for a cooked rom, together with radio and extrom, a full flash, in this case i mean rom and radio rom, since the extrom is not really flashed anymore).
with best regards,
Chef_Tony
i've already customized...a little! Now, everytime i soft reset i read this: R 1.15.00 , G 1337.45 , D 1.21 michy.
I've no problem at moment..but i hope i won't never hard reset!
This Rom (WM6.1 included only Rom upgrade) it's nice, but i'm interested about WM6.5..anyway i think to keep this one untill a problem will come out
P.s. Like you say, now the antenna isn't red anymore..it's bright green
Thank you a lot for the support guys!

ba update

Hy!
I have a ba with broken power button. The button has rend a pace of motherbord. How can i update my rom without this? Can i turn on the bootloader mod by shoftware? How can i repair it?
(i can't speak eglish, but i try it! )
thx!
hi and welcome to the forum!
there are several things that come to mind:
1. in my signature there is a link to the htc blueangel service manual that can help you fix your power button, because sooner or later, you might need it.
2. assuming that you already use a wm5 or higher rom, before attempting to upgrade you can try a dry run and try to put the device into bootloader mode by running enterbl.exe on the device (it comes with every RUU), then without upgrading you perform a soft reset to restart it and then try a hard reset with only reset+camera+record and see if the menu shows up. then you are good to go.
3. if you are running wm2003, you should check, whether your rom is already WWE, you might be able to upgrade without putting the device into bootloader mode before beginning.
please post back if any of that worked. if not, i still have an idea involving mtty, but i would have to look it up first and maybe it is not necessary.

Faster Flashing W/O Activesync and is Task29 better?

Ok these two are related and are not...
I hadn't seen this elsewhere even with a search but to flash without having to use activesync simply power down your phone (completely off) either by holding the power button for about 3 seconds or by a program or remove your battery and count to 10...
Then hold volume down and power on the device then wait until the device gives you the bootloader screen (or the 3 colored bars)...
At this point the bootloader will say serial in the white portion... hook up a USB and connect it to the computer... windows 7 beeps at you when it accepts it... and it should now read "usb"... flash away!
1. power down
2. wait for shutdown
3. hold volume down
4. power on
5. wait for 3 color screen and serial
6. release
7. connect usb to both computer and phone.
8. wait for serial to change to usb
9. flash away!
With that said I like clearing my memory with Task29 which gave me this idea... as I hate doing activesync flashing... repeat... however I found that activesync does not resolve driver issues...
This is why it is advised to do task29 and your stock rom... then flashing your cooked rom... some things that task29 could not clear up for me that stock could....
I had a new voicemail message on every reset hard or soft... on 3 roms... this was a problem as there was no voicemail... but there was the icon?
Answer: flashed stock rom... this removed it where several task29's could not
Internet could not connect... Answer: flashed stock rom again... task29 and hard reset could not...
I know this takes a long time... flashing stock, task 29, then your Rom, and no the 2.07's do not count as Stock... and they do not seem to clear up anything... as the voicemail glitch was on WWE 2.07 EU and the internet was on a WWE 2.07 ASIA... I flashed, reflashed, task29'd, and hard reset, nothin'!
My thought is that first you restore the drivers/hardware let the phone reboot clear any problems... clear the rom with task29 then have a fairly good place to set your new Rom with good drivers/hardware and blank slate!
Hope this is useful for a lot of problems.
Going into bootloader mode is covered in the sticky thread about flashing ROMs. You can also flash from memory card too.
task29 completely wipes out the ROM area. I'm struggling to understand how flashing a stock ROM after a task29, and then your cooked ROM, is better. In fact it seems worse to me, i.e. you may have some stuff from the stock ROM left around when you flash the cooked ROM.
You didn't say that you need Hard SPL on your Rhodium to do this... I reckon a lot of noobs reading this would brick their devices after reading this...

I don't think they'd be at risk of bricking. Task29 needs HardSPL and will refuse to work otherwise. And a ROM flash will just hang without HardSPL.
I don't see a reason to flash a stock rom, at all. Although, I do appreciate your input about task29 to stock rom then to cooked rom. It just doesn't make sense to me, because I have never had issue using task29 and then just flashing to the next cooked rom.
Like I said above guys... I have ISSUES TASK29 COULD NOT RESOLVE ALONE... thus flashing the STOCK then Task29... NOT Task29 then Stock that would seem to be pointless -eh? So I am sorry if I were not clear enough in the post.
As far as the sticky, I had read through it... must of missed it but then again I was skimming for stuff I did not already know from my days of owning a T-Mo Dash (2G)... sorry but I did not remember seeing these instructions on how to get around activesync all the time... I mean let's face it, it is time consuming.
Also I let the stock run for a little too... just a few minutes and a reset or two...

[Q] help

ive done a lot of research and still cant find a solution. im sort of a newb, heres the problem my wifes TP2 when she turns it off and turns it back on the phone gets stuck on bootloadr screen, tried to hard reset but wont do anything. but when i plug it with usb to my laptop if i soft reset it will boot up.I read that alot of people had the same problem and just had to install a coocked rom, well i did i installed energys rom but it still had the same issue. Now its back to stock rom. any info on how to fix this is appreciated and thnx in advance.
Get it replaced under warranty
if you were able to flash a cooked rom, you must have installed hard-spl.
when did you do this, after the problem appeared to be able to flash the energy rom, or before? maybe this could be the problem...

well the first time her phone did it i googled the problem and it brought me here, a thread that said stuck at bootloader screen and their solution was flashin a cooked rom. well it got the phone to boot after i did that but every time if she turns it off and back on it gets sutck at the tri color screen. i installed hard spl when i was flashin rom.
here is a thread on the subject already.[/QUOTE]yea been at that thread also, but my problem is that when i turn the phone off and when i turn it back on it wont boot up it just gets stuck there, like i stated above i already flashed hard spl and flashed a energy rom but it still does the same thing. i flashed the phone back to the original rom but is still gets stuck, the phone works as long as she dont turn it off but after awhile her ram goes up to like 80 so i have to turn it off, and to turn it back on i have to use my laptop. and thanx for the help guys i really appreciate it. and phone dont have warranty i bought it on craigslist.
Since it's going to the tri-color bootloader screen, seeing as normally to get to that screen you would hold volume down on boot, have you checked inside the back of the case to make sure there isn't dirt/debris jamming the volume down button? If the volume adjusts normally once you do get it booted, that may not be it, or maybe it's just a short in the key.
Also, both the stock ROM and energy ROMs are bad about eating ram, and need to be rebooted regularly. Maybe try one of the ROMs that doesn't, like a Jackos rom, which you can leave running for days without a reset. Might not solve your problem, but might at least take some of the bother out of it.

You've got me, there. The last energy rom I tried was a little bit ago, and was a Maxsense version at that. Even still, it soundly failed my Opera Mobile 10 test on a clean flash off of a fresh boot (it would autokill OM 10 to free up ram without any other apps open). Any rom that does that goes straight into the bin as far as I'm concerned.
I have been meaning to drop one of the more recent builds on to see if that was just a bad experience. Maybe try one of the titanium versions, just to make sure I'm giving it a fair shake. Either way, this has now gotten at least a bit off topic. =P

yea i have the sep 18 nrg rom on mine wich now runs very good. well after a couple reboots with the phone plugged to my laptop, i unplluged it and tried a soft reset and thank god it booted normal, i then powered the phone off and turnd it back on and it worked. dont know what the problem was but i appreciate everyones help.
There is different things that you can do to try and resolve your problem. Start by finding a rom that you would like to install on your phone and save the file to your SD Card. FL5 Mentioned Jacko's rom and I swear by it as well. I run the showlite version modified to my liking and still have on average about 80 mbs of ram open.
2nd thing to do would be a Task 29 which will pretty much formats your phone. This is important to do because if there is any "debris' left over from any of the roms you have installed, this will take care of that. "Debris" at times cause issues that you cannot pinpoint and interfere with the rom that is currently installed. It is also important that you do this step second because once you do a Task 29 you will not be able to flash through USB. At least, I have not been able to do so. I flash from my SD Card. You can get Task 29 here-->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649191
Once you do that, flash your rom from your SD Card by following the directions here-->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
Hopefully this fixes your problem. If it doesn't, you don't have to soft reset to free up ram. I use software called "cleanram" and usually run it on level 3 which means that it thoroughly finds processes taking up ram and reclaims it. You can also schedule a daily, weekly, hourly clean under the settings menu. You can find that here-->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=514333
Best of luck.
Oooooooooooo yeah! Task 29 is absolute magic. Completely wipes your NAND before a flash to remove the chance of old ghost files from past ROMs jacking up your system. If you've followed any of the flashing tutorials on the board then you've definitely been doing this step, and thus this shouldn't have been your problem. Not everyone has problems if they skip it, but all sorts of seeminly otherwise random problems can pop up otherwise.

Eh ? I don't know what's going wrong for you, but that's completely untrue. After running task29, you need to unplug the phone from the PC, put the phone into the bootloader (e.g. press reset while holding down the Volume Down button), wait for it to come up and say "Serial" at the bottom, then plug it back in and it should say "USB". Then you can flash via USB (which is safer than flashing from SD card, since it does more checking).

The 20 Sep ROMs have the option of using quick menu. With that option, even with Sense 2.5 and CHT (a RAM hog), I have 88 Mb available on a normal basis. I don't use Opera 10 (also a RAM hog), but I think it would work with the new ROM.
You have to manually select the Quickmenu option.
well the problem with her phone is fixed. but now my hardware keys stay on dim but they stay on, im gonna try doin task 29 and reflashing a rom see if that takes care of my issue.
Well just for future references, I had all of the above problems and tried all of them. Issue did not go away until I did the following steps..:
Run Task 29
Flash new ROM (Issue still exist)
Flash New Radio (Issue still exist)
Reflashed Hard-SPL (This somehow fixed the issue....)
