Just wondering how i enable gps on a newley liberated rom - w/o installing a one of the custom roms with it embeded?
Thanks in adv
Kris
Please,
extract the GPS enabled ROM then copy the needed DLL's extract your rom put HTCGPS tool on it and recook your rom and flash it, i would expect there is no cab done with a one click install for liberated shift, also it would be ver less space to add iGO or such to the shift in a liberated rom.
cmonex did this stuff for the GPS enabld rom, if you have further questions try to ask her and PLEASE read & search the forum FIRST before you write noob questions to her.
Greets
how can i do this - i have extracted the rom but dont know what dlls to replace etc
thanks kris
Very interesting topic, but some inacurate in its name...
Neutron83, I do not undestand this steps too - very dreary, some cookings... Intricately!
I want to enable GPS on native liberated ROM - without reflashing it. Is it possible?
And what is the way to invite attantion ofcmonex to this topic?
cmonex did not provide gps to shift, I did.
I provided a cab for that. Only problem with the cab method is that you lose sound and you must run drivers manually after soft rest.
You cannot have gps and sound with this method, as an important file needs to be replaced for that, and only rom flashing can do this. Uninstalling the cab and soft reseting solves that.
BTW, flashing my rom is the same than liberating the snapvue, and adding gps drivers. Nothing is added or deleted (mostly)

Thanks. Navigation without sound is nonsense.

Where is this ROM? Is it English only?
english and french. Please do a search in this subforum for posts started by me.
You wrote (about NewYear) about LITE-rom, but I find French only. Is English avaiable?
Nope, but I might do one soon, when we have mic working as well as phone.
Is there a special version of the shift to use ?
Mine is french and i remember that not all shift have gps.
How can i verify my version ? and what version have gps functional ?
to verify your version, you can remove the battery and look near the sim card "clio***"
I think that all the shift are GPS'able.. but correct me if I'm wrong !
Mine is a clio110.
I will search in the forum for confirmation for the gps and post here if i find it.
Please tell me if you find before me.
Here is the post :

That is also my understanding.
You just have to flash a rom that enables the gps receiver.

i have the same shift as yours and mine works... then yes.. you should have missed something or you don't know how to check if gps is working.
I'm using the rom of cmonex (1.29) and it's working perfect.... try to use the HTC GPS Tools to see if you get NMEA.

Well, done, already spitted trough all big topics for wm2005 last weekend, horrible to do so by the way(spended more than 20 hours on this fora, shall not mention all others) for a little effort. (yes, sometimes skipped some reply's)
Also copied the half of the ftp servers to my pc
Some of the stuff of the extended roms there is useless for BlueAngels, also some things can work, or needs to be patched, but to find out what will work for me under wm2005 takes some time.
Sure normal applications work, but a working midlet manager, still no luck for me.
But renember that a Himalaya and the BlueAngel are totaly different devices, (also wm2003 and wm2005)common thing like a bootscreen will not work, as for now. caller-id is totaly obsolete, (don't know for Hima).
The fax of my original ext rom did gave errors, during install.
At the moment the wiki of the BlueAngel is totally outdated, since there is so many fixed.
Also from M. a ba_wm5_fix_v3.rar versie on the wiki still reverts to V1.
(Think i missed a reply to? i'm not reading a topic of 10+ pages every day again starting at page 1 due to Changes)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=6617
So has Anybody found a working midlet manager? Or something else i missed??

I downloaded a few days ago a GPS enabled Radio ROM. I suppose it should be able to upgrade to GPS ROM just by changing the RADIO ROM.
Could it be done with the OFFICIAL Dopod ROM now available?
Would it work just by removing the non-RADIO files from the temp directory?
My goal is to KEEP my Trinity language unchanged, just enable the GPS functionality.
Any help is appreciated.
C'mon guys! No one there to answer....?
Yeah, have kind of like the same question... I've seen many update threads, but this is a very populare topic, so the threads are a bit hard to go through if you havn't followed them from day one...
so, question is as follows:
How to upgrade a Trinity and enabling the GPS without loosing your existing OS/language... A step by step guide for dummies like me would be _very_ helpfull, or just point me to the thread with the solution, that would also do the trick
@neofix: That is exactly what I am looking for, too. I would like to have the official dopod ROM update with all the features like GPS and so on but I would like to have my own language on the phone. It is currently really difficult to keep track with all the posts regarding the gps ROM. I am lost, please somebody help me out of this.
Any chances? Anybody?

I say up i nead the cabs in the extended_rom before the update.
To do something.
If you whant you can download the german rom and flash it in your trinity and after speak to me to tell you what.....
After will take the interesting think you can flash again the gps dopod rom.
EDIT: IF THE ROM IS BY DEFAULT GERMAN I CANT DO ANYTHING. BUT IF IS IN ENG AND AFTER THE FLASH ADD THE LANGUAGE MAYBE I CAN HELP YOU.
flashed it just now and found the following files in the EXTROM pp_defaultpage_wwe.cab, pp_extversion.cab, MP_CVSDcpl_20060920.cab and a textfile named config.
It did not ask me to change my language or anything like that

So your lang is default with out any cab install after the flash.
You can't do anything.
Nonono there must be a way. There must be any kind of file or data which tells the device to write "Kontakte" instead of "Contacts". Maybe we have to change it manually.
Does anybody know something about such a file, such data on the phone?

Look the translate is mui's files in the windows folder.
The mui file has the translated word's of the original dll's or exe's.
If your original dll's or exe's in the windows folder is german,
how you can take it out and after the dopod update add buck in the windows folder??.
You can't cause rom permision's.
If you whant you can find another away maybe a program to translate the win ce to your language.
search for that.

I have the cabs in my ext-rom, since I did not update yet.
May I pm them to you?
Or I would post them in the ftp, should it work.
Let me know.
Regards.
A better solution could be to let the original ROM installed and flash only the Radio ROM from the GPS enabled DOPOD ROM.
I do not know if this will work and if the original ROM "know" how to communicate with the GPS radio version - perhaps POF can give us the answer.
If there is no risk to flash the differnet radio ROM i will try it soon.
To get the radio ROM (Info from POF):
Use NBHExtract to extract GSM.nb from full rom, then use NBHgen to make NBH with radio only. Flash using SSPL-Trin.

IMHO this is exactly THE OPPOSITE to what we a are looking for....
It says explicitly that NO ENGLISH ROMS are supported.... so no GPS ROM is supported either.
It might well be a way to investigate, but is not a solution now :-(

Yes, I also have the problem with all the new cooked ROM here. So I changed back to the original English ROM, I have to liberated from email again, but it is much more stable. However. the original ROM also have the noise sound problem!
GPS is not much useful without the SD card, plesae try help us by uploading a liberated original English ROM without GPS(avoid noise problem)!
Is there any way to find out on Vista side or WM6 side what is the genuine version of SnapVue ROM factory installed? My HTC Shift is US version with US keyboard so I need a SnapVue liberated or not liberated ROM for the HTCH Shift US version. Thanks.

Try thaihugo's version of ROM WWE1.22, it is much more stable. He did not remove anything, just added liberation and GPS.
Thanks

ACtually, that means the sound driver is changed too. But I'm still unsure mic was working before. If it is, I might look for a way to make it work again.
My rom is stable because I start from the principle that the stock rom should be changed by light touch only.

I think the latest ROM is 1.30.508.0, but you would see 1.30.405.0 more. Those two are not that stable. More Stable one is 1.22.x (Minor version number is not coming out from my mind currently). Thats what thaihugo used and it is WWE, which means US, but you have to tweak cabfile and keybd registry settings before you install anything and use with US keyboard. By default it is set to UK keyboard. Here is the ROM, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420548 and don't forget to read page 2, it has the registry tweakings you may have to do.
Good Luck
Ram
I have posted the french version too. This one is 1.30. It is working properly too. Maybe I could try to change language from this version. I wonder the difference between this french 1.30 and the canadian 1.30.
Thaihugo, if I will flash your ROMN on my Shift you haver any ideea if the backlight level and microphone will work again?keep Also I understand that your ROM is UK version but my Shift is US version. I can change the keyboard in registry but this maybe affect other things?
Just in case i dont like it or am i stuck with cooked roms thereafter?
Yes, Once installed HardSPL, you can put on any rom you wish,
This means, that you can flash Official Roms (Perhaps to change language) or Cooked Roms, As long HardSPL is on your device, you can reflash any Rom that is built for your device
Since HardSPL cannot be removed by flashing a rom (you can remove it with the removal utility) you don't have to worry about Official or Cooked roms ;-)
Hey!

Dutty does not work on the Topaz (yet? xD)
I still use a highly (self) customized stock rom,
If you want to use a 6.5 rom I'd recommend Tom's or udK's roms.
And indeed, if you ever need to return your phone, Try to flash a stock rom & remove HardSPL from your device, and you should be ok ;-)

I am running Tom Codons' latest 6.5 ROM - Biggest benefit to me is that windows media player appears to have more video codecs than before - I can now play vids that would not play on 6.1.
Toms ROM is genreally fast and bug free and he includes a registry editor for your convenience!
Ok great thanks guys!
As HTC dont supply a stock rom are the original rooms on the wiki mirror the same?

The ROM's which names start with RUU... are official ROM's from HTC. The question is if you find the original ROM that is on your TOPAZ right now.
If it is not listed yet, you might not be able to get back to your original status once u flashed a cooked ROM.
A possibility is to dump your original ROM and try to create the files for reflashing it. I never tried by myself, but I see in the threads of "TOPAZ ROM development" that it is not that easy.
At the end it's your decision to accept the risk.
Great thanks!

@ Garmin XT users,

2) Does it have a Belgium only map?
If you could answer these questions I would be very happy,

Hi, there no problem to change. Remove default navigation program (it's very bad that it's imposible remove via program removal... you need to delete it via delete menu) and install your TomTom or other. I'm using iGO 8, very good user interface and new maps.
All Europe here.
