Stuck in headset mode! - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there! I know some ppl already did discuss this on the forums and I tried what ppl have said earlier with paperclips and my pen and even tried loads of headphones playing around! I even broke my pen for trying so hard!
SO basicly for whoever doesnt know its stuck in headset mode and I cant call or receive calls without headphones wich is quite anoying! Im guessing it might be something that broke inside of the jack1.5mm not sure tho dunno how it works!
So Im guessing is there any chance to put it back on normal mode via software? registry ? or something like thaT? or any of you has any idea on a workaround for this? plz give me some ideas since Im out of them! realy dont wanna take the phone to SE to take like 25days and to pay loads of money since I aint got warranty!
Cheers
n0brega

oh forgot to say it started from nowhere I dont put headphones in the phone for like 3months or more! yesterday just took it out of my pocket and it was stuck in headset mode for some reason!

plug your headphone to 3.5mm jack again and unplug it carefully, make a call after doing it, it should work, if it doesn't, try again and this time, unplug it as fast as yu can:d i hope it will help, try it till it work:d, if it doesn't work after 5 times, try to hard reset:d

tried it all more than 50 times lol so Im guessing only a registry tweak or something would make the phone work again properly even if it disables the headset mode im fine with it since I realy dont use headphones....

did you try a hardreset? maybe it will help, when it happen in my old o2 miniS, i plug it several times but it still doesn't work, but 1 day later, it works again:d

This happened to me way back with my i-mate Jam. No idea if it is the same issue, but this is how I solved:
1) Plug the head-phones in.
2) Power off the phone (soft-reset), leaving the head-phones plugged in.
3) Power the phone back on again.
4) When the phone has fully booted to the today screen, remove the head-phones.
As I said, this worked on the i-mate Jam, but no idea if it is the same issue.

have you updated your ROM recently? I noticed this when I updated to Itje's 2.3 or 2.4 version(dont remember correctly). immediately reverted back to 2.2 which is stable and fast. right now.

yeap tried hard reset and even soft-reset with headphones on and turning on back again and then plugging them off
nothing!
doesnt even blink

Same problem here. My phone is inside the pocket most of the time with headset plugged in. And moving around seems to affect the connection after a while. Now I have to plug it in and then while removing it wiggle it a bit around. Contacts are getting stuck most likely. Also when I remove it, it seems to be stuck more secure than it used to.
Any way to fix it yourself?

Try turning off the headset in registry.
HKLM\System\State\Hardware
Set "Headset" to 0.
(P.S. Any reboot of your phone might reset this. If you would like me to make a script to automate it, PM me.)

Same problem here...
When I do what you suggested, the "headphones connected" status keeps showing and the speakers still dont work...

Guess you're out of luck then. Have to send it back in for repairs.

Had the same problem. Only a repair will help...
When I got it back from the repair center I noticed that the headphone jack is now totally different.
- The heavy resistance is gone, the headphones just go in like butter now.
- There is a little click at the end.
I hope it won't break this time.

How much did you pay for the repairs? How long did it take?

well try this, (it worked for me)
1. install the SRS plugin found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473780)
2. soft reset the phone 2 times
And tada no more stuck in headset mode!
hope it works for you

It took about 3 weeks but it was right before Christmas. So I think it normally takes about 2 weeks to repair.

My Problem Resolved............... but how ?
Very very simple, I just put the headphone in and did ;
1- A soft reset, but it didn't work.( How to Soft and Hard Reset )
2- A Hard reset (with the headphone still pluged in), when the today screen loaded fully, I pluged out the headphone and it WORKED !!!!!!!!!!! .
If it works for you people please let me know, because as you can see I just
joind this forum to tell you all how it was fixed for me.

For Atom life
pls translate
Suerte.!

I have tried this and all the tips above but it did not work. Few days ago I could resolve the problem by knocking around the headset connector. But now the problem seems no way out. I think it is a hardware problem.
Please help...

can i try install new rom by sd?
is impossible restore my kaiser?
Well I would say that if you have the OEM (factory) ROM on the phone and a hard reset isn't fixing it, then you have a bad port. Send it back in. Now if you have a cooked ROM then yeah just look in the wiki and it will tell you how to flash from the SD.. Sounds like a bad port so far.

let me know if you find out the same...my phone wont charge either, wont connect through USB. if i can't install a new rom through SD i'm screwed
If it wont charge when switched off it sounds like the usb port has gone. £25 in the UK for replacement.....had mine changed last week !!
I've had to have my phone warrantied twice because of this problem.
I'm nearing the end of warranty.
I wonder where and and at what cost to fix that in the U.S. I'm presuming this phone is pretty much doomed given how often I see this, and have experienced it.
I love the phone, and hate the quality. I've had it replace 2 other times for other reasons too, for 4 replacements. I handle it with kid gloves to try to be sure that I don't cause any problems.

Help: My HD has suddenly gone dead

My hd has suddenly gone dead. The battery light does not turn on even if plugged in. I have tried to reset while plugged in but nothing happens. Connecting to the pc also doesn't help. Also tried to put it into bootloader without success. This does not feel good. Any ideas what might be the problem?
might be the usb connection. could be loose or bad
Have you tried to remove the battery, and put it back in..had a littel problem like (during unlock) that would turn on, removed the battery for 10s and put it back in and it turn on.

HI Bro Iknow ur pain, this happen to my diamond also, one day just didnt turn on after unplug from my vista machine. Only thing I could think of is that maybe there was a short circuit somewhere between pluging to the computer with usb.
You will have to send it for repairs unfortunately

I tried this and it magically came back. The strange thing is that I had been taking the battery out and putting it back in many times ...but perhaps I had not left the battery out long enough.
The battery also seems full which is kind of strange since I had been using the phone all day without charging.
In any case, I will leave it charging over night and report back tomorrow.
Thanks for your help!

Sorry for "using" the thread, and I am glad that it was resurrected, but... VIPPER2004, in end were you successful for the unlock? I have exactly the same problem, and so far have not succeeded... Any suggestions?
Thanks,
P.

You'd better reflash a stock ROM and keep it for a while until you are reasonably sure that it was just a case and won't happen again.

Dead again
Well...it did happen again. This morning I found it dead again while plugged in. Unfortunately, I did not reflash it to stock rom. I can now only hope that I get a second chance to reflash before sending it off. Any other ideas are welcome.......
entering the new year without my blackstone
Looks like my hd has to take a trip to the factory.
Quick question: since I didn't manage to revert to initial rom does anyone know what the policy is on repairing an htc with custom rom?
That is indeed unfortunate...
What custom ROM have you installed? Have you checked in the thread if someone else had similar issues? And have you installed any particular program?
Also, you had no such issues while you were on the original ROM?
If you have this type of issues, trying to flash a stock ROM without being sure about the cause for the issues might be a little dangerous... There would be, I suppose, the risk that something might go wrong during the flashing process. And you would risk having a lovely brick...
Regards,
P.
I have installed Panosha's light version. No one else seems to be having this problem. Is there a chance that the battery is faulty? Can I have it repaired even though it has a custom rom installed?
Hi,
It might be a problem with the battery, but you could only try this possibility if you used other HD... by the way you have been using the wall charger or the usb cable attached to the PC?
Regarding the possiblity of having it repaired, under warranty, it could depend on the repairer itself. At the limit they could refuse to repair it under warranty, because a non-official ROM has been installed, and, specially, because a non-original HSPL is in place... but they could also overlook this, or do not notice it.
I would make sure it can not be "ressurected" and properly flashed before going to HTC service.
Regards,
P.

I have tried several times to resurrect it without success. On one ocassion I had the power light turn on for about 2 seconds then dead again. The only thing I have not tried is to try another battery. I will probably find one by tomorrow to test. Otherwise on Friday it will head to the repair shop...and fingers crossed. I will let you know what the repair policy seems to be here in Greece.

Your phone is not broken!
Duttys ROM does not have this problem. I have had the same with Panosha's ROM and with Touch of HD ROM. The screen goes black and only removing the battery brings it back.

I wish this were the case, but even after removing the battery I cannot get it to function. Even when plugged into an outlet the power light does not turn on, so it's clearly more than a blank screen.

Had this issue after installing a screen protector (one of the liquid attach ones), All I did to fix was push in and pull out a headphone 10-15 times, and it cleared, think something arced across the detection terminals.
Thanks for the reply no luck will keep trying... next step do it send it back? will they fix it?
can the connection terminal short? how for down is it?
Have you checked to see if it was software prob?
hard reset? flash stock ROM? you would have to do this before sending it back anyway...
Well after 2 weeks of plugging my headphones its still dead.
Last 2 days starting to come alive again. trick is to pull the headphones out when its off, sometimes comes back, but hoping it will corrected itself, or maybe rain sweat got into it and needs to dry.
Just reporting here in case anyone in the future hits this wall and doesnt want to send it bck.
doesnt look like a perminant fault yet...
sounds back for now, back to flashing.... L26 v9.0 coming and kwbr V2 and and Dutty 2.1 ahhh which one ... which one!

Itje ROM - Big problem, help!`

Dear members and developers,
I installed "Itje - Touch-IT winmo6.5 with manila" a few weeks ago and was extremely pleased with it, I used it for about 2 or 3 weeks.
However, disaster struck - I plugged my headphones in my Xperia to listen some Michael Jackson. All went fine, the headphone-icon appeared in the taskbar and after listening some songs and calling my girlfriend I unplugged it. The icon, however, never went away. So what, I thought. Soft reset at some time will solve that. Right? Wrong.
Since that moment I cannot call anybody or answer my phone without using the headphones. The icon remains even after leaving out the battery for +/- 5mins and I cannot find any setting to make it turn back to normal.
Anybody... help!
Hard reset?
It might actualy be the plug that has some damage to it , try to insert your headphones again and then pull them out.
Maybe move the minijack a bit arround when its in the phone just to see if it gets unplugged.
itje is lush but that is an ooold rom
pim backup your contacts
flash valkyrie or something else
best bet
or hard reset
this happened to me once.....soft\hard reset don work......keep ur plug in...reset and try.....if no go then keep plugging in n out and keep ur fingers crossed
I seriously do not believe this. I have had this problem for a week now, couldn't solve it. I did this thread, read your anwers and grabbed the phone for some in/unplugging like you suggested. Guess what.... No icon.
So thanks a lot anyways guys, you have magic powers

Is it that old? I also have the Valkyrie here... Is it easy to backup my SMS messages? If so, I will flash Valkyrie tomorrow...
yeah its easy to backup
Just get PIM Backup from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
Btw Valkyrie rom rocks
thats not a ROM problem... its a hardware problem....
I had it once and fixed it with finding something pointy and stick it into the slot... after that the icon went away....
rule of thumb: if reset cant solve the problem its not a software issue.... just use a little of your brain and a little bit of common sense before going paranoid...
*sorry for the words but really hate it when people dont use their brain....*
User had a similar issue...another user gave a possible solution to try...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3975308&postcount=588

its definately the hardware problem.. i've experience it once and i fix the problem by plugin the headset and hard-reset it.. after that i works jz fine!

They are working right? I don't see a problem then.

That happens because when you put the jack you block the piece of plastic that makes the contact.
Try put and take out the jack several times, if not work, go to SE service.
My X1 have that problem and the SE give me a new phone lol.
