Extract a program from a cooked ROM running on device? - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

I'm currently running L26_THDV4 on my HD and want to update to V6 - but there is some stuff on V4 that I don't want to lose.
Is there any way I can extract a program from on the device to my PC or Memory Card so that I can upgrade the ROM and then reinstall the program?

me to
i would lv that to

I've managed to get the program I want elsewhere - but would still be curious if this is possible?!

In theory it should be possible, but you would have to know which files (and registry keys/values) belong to this application.

How to install Garmin if it wont install itself?

I got the latest garmin XT from the garmin site for my Tilt, and ran the installer on my pc. usually, when i put the memory card into the device, it automatically pops up with a window and asks me if i want to install it and where.
not this time though. and now i cant figure out how to actually install it. every file that i pick from the garmin files on the memory card doesnt actually install it properly. it doesnt show up in the programs screen, nore does it even come up in the manage programs screen. it works, but i have to use file explorer to actually launch the exe. its not really installed!
im using the L26 V8 lite rom.
please help!
I had the same problem on my tilt, I am using death v4 for my rom. I thought that I accidently downloaded the nokia verson or something cause nothing looked normal after it "installed". I don't know what to do either
working on dutty
Just info really...i'm on dutty's June release and Garmin installs and functions fine. You might want to consider this plus the latest SPL with being ROM being very smooth.
i have the latest hardspl. dutty's latest releases are too buggy.
just tried it with L26 V7, same.
No one knows how to properly manually install??
Did it create a folder on your storage card called 2257? If so, is there an autorun file in there?
Yeah the 2257 folder is there, tried to run the autorun file, still didnt actually install it

Click to collapse
hmm thats odd.. are you sure you have all the right files in the Garmin folder on your card?

Click to collapse
Take your storage card out, then put it back in. Does autorun start?

Lite rom question / help

I am very fussy with my toys, and like to have what i need / use and not everything else that others have loaded, this is nice, but i dont end up using the programmes, so they annoy me as take up space
If i install a lite rom, with no prgrammes but a recent version, i take it i can then load the programmes i use / want and basically build my own device?
or is it easier to downloaded a kitchen and the programmes and make my own rom? i have currently got duttys 1.7, seemed to get high reviews, and looks good, but for me it doesnt feel right, some icons are not crisp, and i wont use, so thats annoying me.
then i have folders for apps and media etc, i loaded my programmes onto the mem card and after installing the new rom the proggies were still on the mem card (didnt know if would get wiped) so i copied the shortcuts to the programmes folder, but i cant copy to the indivual folders that they belong in.
where do i get the official programmes from if i want to build my own rom? like or the important / required stuff? or is that all included and the kitchen helps with adding extras?
its far easier to install a lite rom and then start adding your own applications. which, by the way, cannot be done by simply adding the shortcuts from the microSD to the Program Files directory. you need to have the .cab file for every program you want to install.
if you want to cook your own rom, you need to read about cooking and kitchen essentials. basically, you may find in there most programs you may want to include in your rom. also, there is a description on how to add other programs of your liking to the kitchen. there used to be a kitchen guide very good detailed around here, but cant seem to find it anymore.
i only added the shortcuts as i had originally installed my applications on to the storage card, so i guess all the nessassary files were there, and i was able to add a shortcut to the programmes folder for access from the start menu.
i think i`ll go with a light rom, and install programmes i want / need.
if that doesnt work, then i can try making one myself.
i am worried i will forget to install something important, will a lite rom include everything needed for the phone to work as it should? (all the touch functions, and camera, album, texts, signal, be able to play media files when install programmes for it etc)?

Help me please. New XDA Diamond...

So I just got mine from my friend who lives in Germany, and I desperately want to change the language because I hardly understand it. I need it in English. Can someone help me find the .nbm file or some tut or something? I saw the hard spl unsigned thing and I guess I'll start off with that. Can anyone help me find a Windows 6.1 english version that has everything in it so it's like as i just bought it? Or maybe a windows 6.5? But I need it to have everything as if I just bought it, oh and I installed the one free map tomtom navigator allows me to download, so if I flash the rom, will I lose that map?
You should be able to find a suitable ROM in the Diamond ROM Development Section, you will only loose your Maps if they are stored on the Main Storage.
Well the map files are in My Documents of the phone, so does that count as the main sotrage? Any way to back it up?
Oh! Will I lose +any Apps like the TomTom Navigator or the Office Tools?
If you want to back up your maps, copy them to your Internal Storage. Mostly after market apps are installed on your Internal Storage so you will not loose it when you flash a new ROM, I have for example iGO8 installed on my Internal Storage and I don't have to reinstall it when I flash a new ROM. The Windows apps are part and parcel of all ROMs.

where is the windows dir ?

hi there,
i just wondered where i can find the windows directory.
its not on the first disk and not on the internal disk.
i wanted to know if i loose my "original bought" windows version, when i flash a system rom like aztor or something.
what happens when i flash a newer original htc rom from the htc site like 2.03, is windows included in the updated rom file ?
so i just bought a "license" for windows mobile 6.1 prof. ?
thanks for a fast answer (before flashing a rom)!
raY
the windows dir should be located on the main memeory, not the internal memory.
when you flash a new rom you will looose everything currently on the device, and it will install a new version of windows, you done need to buy anything, and if it does not work, you can get the origional rom back and install that again. although this will not bring back your files etc.

[Q]New Rom = Execute .CABs?

I am wondering if it is standard for a custom ROM to allow the installation of .cabs and the use of browsing the SD card through phone/computer to be able to add music.
My previous phone was a TP2 with Energy rom. The HD7 with mango is a whole new thing for me, im still awfully confused.
Thanks.
PS. Does anyone have any recommendations for a rom?
As far as adding music and files, that is all done via USB and Zune software. It does not offer the same "USB storage device" functionality as the old Windows Mobile phones.
.cabs are now .xap files. Typically they are deployed from your computer to your device, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong and can be installed through IE on your phone.
Just give the custom roms a whirl and see which you like. Make sure you understand how to flash one and if you need to downgrade your device first before running rspl/hspl.
Enjoy!
