Strange issue with data connection?? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello i have this issue with data connection it seems to have started since using gremote, but that maybe nothing to do with it. when bluetooth is enabled i get a icon at the top of the screen with 2 arrows pointing left and right when i tap on this it says network card connected witht he options to go to comm manager it also shows orange mms (hsdpa) and i cant use any data services such as weather tab out brows the internet on ie or opera. is i close bluetooth this goes away and arrows turn in to a H and all data connections work fine.
what have i done wrong? i was also using the phone as a router but have removed that application to no affect as it was just a trial.
can anyone advise?
thanks

ANYONE? its driving me nuts!

gprs using data when trying to connect...

i was in an area with no gprs today and my kaiser was constantly trying to connect, this went on unnoticed and when i looked at my gprs tracker is racked up 38mb in one hour, thank god i have a 1gb data plan. what's going on here why does it use data to connect? and is there any way to stop it from trying to repeadily connect like that? when i try to turn off the gprs connection with comm manager or gprs manager, windows will automatically try to reconnect over and over and over again.
Any chance you have ActiveSync running in the background when you check? I'm abroad at the moment and have the same problem, this is my no.1 culprit at the moment.
nope i have nothing running in the background. i don't understand how it's using data when it's not connected. i can't figure this out, i don;t even know where to begin.
sorry double post
I have the same issue! I have no data plan and my GPRS was connected for some 39 minutes the other day!!!
Anyone any ideas? Not sure if it's the MMS messaging that is causing it...?!?
figured it out, i just left the password section blank in the connection setting that was it always promts me to enter the password everytime the phone tries to reconnect

No data sessions (AT&T Tilt phone)

OK, so finally, I decided to put on the HTC Home Customizer and Band Switch today.
I thought everything was good, but for some reason Direct Push, IE, and other things that use the data connection are no longer functioning. The connection icon shows I'm connected 3G, but when I click on it - it says no data sessions active. The wireless manager doesn't let me click the data session icon.
It seems I have to go into the Settings, into MEdia Net, and force it to connect there...
What on earth did I do to this thing or do I just not understand how Bandswitch should be operating?

How to stop internet connection

A silly question by a new user: how is it possible to stop an internet or data connection (no matter if hsdpa, edge, gprs) once started?
Thanks
use 'long key press' in settings, can be set to disconnect a data connection (sdpa, edge, gprs)
Use this program:
http://rapidshare.com/files/173250379/GPRS...onnect.CAB.html
The connection stop after 1 minutes of inactivity

faulty url!
take this one:
GB-SOFT GPRS-UMTS_Tweak_WM6.1_Diamond
there you can choose the idle-time for disconnect
Anyway the manual stopping mode is to tap the bar that is on the top of the sceen...than tap the G E 3G or U icon and so you can tap disconnect.

Cool, also in stead of holding the end call button, wich locks the phone in my case,
Dubbelclicking the end call button alse ends my edge connection.
In order for your end key to stop the connection, you have to go to Settings>System>Long Press End Key>Select Terminate data connection
Then when you press and hold your end key, it will end the connection
if you prefer to stop internetconnection by shortcut, try VJKeyPress.exe 126
this one toggles internet connection
i've searched and i've searched and i cant find the resolve!
after retrieving hotmail, the connection stays active, meaning bars are lit up. for HOURS after unless i long-press-end key or something like that. even when i am surfing the web, after a page is fully loaded, the bars stay lit. on my old diamond, the bars used to go gray or "dormant" etc. therefore no tweaks i have found help (i.e. most operate with this rule "if the connection is dormant/inactive for xx minutes, turn off data" etc. well my connection remains ACTIVE unless i manually intervene)
what is causing this??? i only have spb mobile shell and spb phone suite installed. stock ROM.
hello? anyone? NO one is having the same issue or can help with this??? at this point i'd even be happy with a rude comment about how i should learn how to search coupled with a few links to threads which contain the answers! :\
I'm not sure I understand your question.
You're saying the connection stays alive after using mail or opera?
By default, WMo does not turn off data connection, so once you've made a data connection, it stays on.
Now, there are lots of programs out there that turns off data connection after a pre-set time. If you have Advanced Config on your Diamond, it's somewhere in there as well (I use SKTools and not Advacned Config so I can't point you exactly where, but it's there)
That said, many have tested battery drain and find that leaving the data connection ON or OFF makes absolutely no difference on the battery drain. It's only when you're transmitting data that drains more battery. Not sure if that's where you're coming from to want to turn off data connection

number16, my savior! i'll try to explain as best i can: when the data connection is started/being used, those left-right arrows appear above the signal strength, correct? what i call "active" is when those arrows are lit (presumably when data is actually being transferred). what i call "dormant" is when the arrows are still there but are gray/not lit (i.e. connection is still open, but not currently transferring data). well, up until a 2 wks ago, all seemed fine - the arrows would briefly stay lit when downloading a page, connecting to hotmail, etc, but then would go gray once the transfer was complete. now however, the arrows stay lit. sometimes for hours at a time even tho nothing is running, no data (that i know of) is being transferred, etc.
so what i was saying is that, yes, i know i can long-press-end key to shut it down, but that only works if i notice it otherwise it's just draining my battery. (most times it is in my pocket, and since it checks hotmail periodically, the data connection may open and stay on without me noticing). and yes, i know about advanced config setting (and actually, i DO have it set to turn off after a minute) BUT that only applies if "connection is not active for more than a minute". i.e. since my whole problem is that my data connection technically stays active, that advanced config setting doesnt work.
so my question is, what is keeping the connection active? why is it doing this? i am running stock ROM and only have spb mobile shell and spb phone suite loaded. and a few other minor tweaks via advanced config/regedit. i even tried spb wireless monitor to see what was active after a data transfer was complete (as far as i could tell) but it didnt really tell me anything.
does all that make sense?
thanks for any help you can provide...

WIFI? 3G?

I'm in the UK, and using a Touch Diamond.....on Vodafone 3G. When I'm connected to WIFI, I obviously want to use that for data, rather than use up my precious data allowance.
When I'm connected to a WIFI connection, how do I know Opera/IE/Email are using WIFI - and not my 3G connection? There are times when I'm in my house, and I know it's using my phone data connection, as it's just so slow (very limited reception 3G in my house)....whereas the WIFI should be pretty fast.
i COULD be wrong here.... but the way i know is if the WIFI icon at the top shows connected. If you rphone cant find the WIFI, it'll always divert to a data connection. Play with your phone around the house, see where you get connectivity and how strong to your wifi.

Yes I know when I'm connected to WIFI and how strong it is....what I want to know is how I know whether my phone is using 3G/GPRS - when I am connected to WIFI and want it to use WIFI and not my phone network. There seems to be no indication to show you are actually 'using' the WIFI network over the phone network....
Settings > Communication Settings.
Turn data connection off, turn wifi on.
Do that before you use internet and your sorted.
On both my Diamond and Touch Pro, the Wi-Fi icon appears on the task bar when Wi-Fi is available. Same goes for 3G.
Also note that some programs call for a certain connection method automatically. For example, you will note that some programs initiate 3G instead of using your Wi-Fi connection. Hopefully, there is a configuration option for such apps.
Cheers.
i don't know if you notice it, but if you are connecting through E or H or G or 3G.. the reception bar instead of the antenna you will get the corresponding letter if you are currently connected to one of them
As long as your WiFi is on and none of those letters are showing up.. you will be fine

can anyone help please- data connections

Hi
I’m having a problem with data connections and my network. In the top right hand corner on the home page, when the “G” box is displayed beside the signal bars everything is fine. However when the device detects another connection like 3G, H or E and is then displayed on the top corner instead of the “G” I cannot send/receive texts and it’s the same for phone calls. Is there a way to stop the device showing these as it is really annoying to only be able to send texts and make calls only when the “G square” is displayed. can i some how stop other data connections and just have the "G", as only when the “G” is displayed does my network work correctly. Has anyone else had this? And how can I fix the problem? Thanks in advance.
You might have tried this but disable GSM in the Comm Manager and see what happens. Might also make sure the HSDPA is disabled in the settings..
Are you using the stock ROM? what version?

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I think I may have solved it by using a new comm Manager with the option of turning 3G off, so far looks good. I will give it a few days testing and see. I will get back to you if any further problems exist, cheers.
