I am very happy with my HTC Shift. On this moment i got Windows Vista and Windows 7 with dual boot on the system. I installed the Gullum ROM.
Now i've got one final issue and i don't know if it is possible. I would like get my GPS connected to the windows side. I know there is a tooling named GPS tool, maybe this is the solution for that. But i don't know how to use this tool.
If it is possible could some make a short discription how to do this?
In this case it might be possible to install route66 or another routeplanner.

Hey guys, just curious if anyone's managed to figure out a way to get the RUU to work with Vista.. I've searched around a good amount and I'm coming to the conclusion that nobody has, so far. I saw one post blaming WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center) as the culprit, but that doesn't make any sense, since the RUU works up until the Wizard gets to its own RUU (tri-color) screen, at which point it should have no connection to WMDC anyway. This leads me to believe it's an incompatibility with the PC-side RUU and Vista. Any clues?
I am also searching for a solution to that, but no success yet. I think it is because of the new drivers that Vista uses. I am now running build 5744, and I think it still worked on 5600, where some elder drivers were used...
I remember I had it working with the 4008 (I think) build, but not RC1 & RC2. I'm using RTM (6000) now and it's hosed pretty bad. I suspect you're correct with the drivers, I know I had to find a driver edited slightly for the modem link to work.. everything is changed around just enough to make nothing work completely. Hope there's a solution soon.
i hope someone find a solution quick, iam also using rtm (6000) ruu crashes all the time and a other big problem is no vmware software runs on vista so far only solutions is to have a dual boot with windows xp
-edit - found a solution

run a virtual image of windows xp and there you go
Dual Boot Vista & XP: Use Vista to play, Use XP to flash Wizard!! 100% sucessful!!
Hey everyone I just wanted to let everyone here know that setting up a dual boot on your computer will allow you to have Vista as your default OS but then reboot your computer and select from either Vista or XP and load either or. Load XP when working on your Wizard, load Vista when you're not!
Here is a link to a tutorial:
http://www.anichillus.net/index.php?action=profile;u=29;sa=showPosts
Link is also in my signature.
PS>> I have tried this personally and have found it to be 100% reliable and works every time!!
Have fun guys!
THX to share this ---_____---
I used to do this as well, but really got sick of Vista and all the compatibility issues, it was getting to be a pain having to reboot everytime I wanted to sync/flash my phone and use winavi (among other things), I got rid of the Vista Ultimate I was running and now just run Black XP...

That was an option for me as well but I have an HP Dragon with a 240gig hard drive and Vista Ultimate preloaded. I use Vista for all of my photoshopping and what not but XP is only a 40Gig partition and aside from virus protection, is a clean OS strictly for working on my Wizard. I use Vista for everything else.
Yes vista has compatibility issues with the bootloader on our Wizards but for all other softwares, the drivers are there. The programs may not install properly or at all but if you go to their website, or do a simple google search, you will find the drivers you are looking for 99% of the time.
hah
I was telling people to do this a long time ago, glad someone caught on hah cheers, remember to get your XP key legally of course
oh yeah, I believe you can do this in virtual pc/wmware as well, XP fresh install is only about 1.7gb
Yes !
This exactly is what I have also been advising the guys to do.
Well thats exactly what I have done a longtime back, when Vista was first time launched.I'm running both the OS's since than. But as I have three 160g's Sata drives installed in my system, I can easily manage to have both Os on separate drives.never felt the need to partition one drive for separate OS's,LOL

I know, but the only problem for me was that one of the programs I use a lot (winAVI) was part of that 1%...

Nicely said. I already had XP on an old HP Pavilion fortunately so I had the restore disk but my Dragon came with Vista Ultimate... I never had to pay for either OS but both are perfectly legal Activated versions. THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE. Either you get lucky and have both disks already or you purchase it. No WAREZ...
Hey guys
I know I posted this before asking for help with the GPS
I live in Israel, I really wish to have a working GPS to use in Israel
How can I do that, I have used the age of beauty from Thaihugo.
After that I am stuck, since I don't know how to set it up, or what to use as software. Please someone I would really appreciate if someone writes a step by step guide on how to use the GPS on the shift. And how can I have a GPS on the Vista side
I am a newbie and I rely on you guys to learn, so far from this forum, I learned how to hardspl, and install custom roms. BUT the GPS from me is a different story it is so complicated for me to look for threads to that, so please I need a step by step guide
Thanks
Dude what kind of experince are you looking for?
If its turn by turn then its going to be running software on the vista side such as Garmin PC or iGo
If its windows mobile side then at this time its only google maps....
try this
HI if you want a real good basic gps program try BeeLine GPS. Its only a small app and it works great on the shift. http://www.visualgps.net/BeeLineGPS/default.htm
If you want a gps Nav, you need maps and at this stage it a "no go" because there in not enough storage on wm( no sd yet)
Guys I want GPS on PC side-
Do i just have to install the Garmin or IGO and thats it, or do I have to do something to set up the GPS from WM side, as I told u I have age of beauty running on WM side.
So please tell me what to do exactly

I belive you need to use "gps gate", there a a few post on how to that. I havent done it as I havent had the need yet.
The first or second post of Thaihugo's Age of Beauty Rom tells you how to connect GPS from WinMo to Vista side. You definitely need to follow the link, download the Windows software, install it and set up as per that website's instructions to get it working though.
I've done it and it seems to work fine and seems easier than GPSgate (which you also have to pay for whereas the one in the ROM is free)
I know it seems like an uphill battle, but honestly, really do read the forum as all the info is there
I know how to connect gps with ivsta, but i don't know how to configure it for google earth pro.can anyone help
Hello everyone, anyone here uses Garmin mobile on their shift? i cant seem to make it work on the ROM's we have available. Any advise you could provide?
Maybe you could be more explicit on what you are trying to do. Garmin works on both side.

my apologies thaihugo. i was actually referring to garmin mobile pc. after doing a lot of reading on this forum, i found the solution. i had to upgrade the garmin mobile pc to a 5.0.0.60 version thru their website. that was the only time that it detected the virtual com port that gps gate created.
Hey, is there any possibility to get a full screen windows mobile for shift??? If the answer is no, why? Why HTC didn't make it full screen???
There is many questions for the company:
why it is snapvue and not windows Mobile?
why it is vista and not wind 7, why the did not make drivers for it?
why the vista can not see snapvue without sync?
why the snapvue can not see the SD card?
there is no answer, we are waiting for the genus of this site to help.

Q1 - It is windows mobile, only named snapvue perhaps because of the limited functionalities.
Q2 - It is vista because there was no Windows 7 when Shift was made, nothing stops you updating to windows 7...Like I did. and there are drivers for it.
Q4 - Read the forum...this question is about 2 years late.
Q5 - Again, tons of posts on this, read the Shift forum.
Q6 - We have waited for the genius for many years now, they have tried enabling GPS, liberating Snapvue and also enabling phone calls in snap vue... I believe no one is willing to spend too much time on it again, afterall the HTC is not even looking in its direction again. But I am still keeping mine though.
