When I get an email via Push email form my exchange server my device doesnt wake up and tell me, It gets the email, and when I turn on the screen I see the notification, but until then it doesnt beep or turn on or anything to let me know. Is anyone else having this issue? With my old ROM it synced as items arrived the OLD way with exchange, and that woke my device just fine. I like this new QTEK ROM but I can't use it if It don't tell me I have emails. BTW It will wake up for SMS and let me know.
Please post your findings, and what ROM you are using.
I'm using the NEW QTEK 2.17.7.2 rom

Waking the device
Not sure I would want it wake the device for email as this would limit the standby time of the device. Would be nice if it were an option though.

I am using the same ROM as you, on a Qtek - and experiencing the same symptoms. However, the device does ring/vibrate (depending on your settings) when a new mail comes in.
When does yours ring/vibrate for email? I am trying to find anything to make this work, cause I REALLY liek this ROM, it faster than the cingular ROM
Thanx; Later
same problem here on 8125 with new Qtek rom
Come on guys, its a simple settings change:
Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications > Messaging: New e-mail message.
The default settings in these aku2 roms is for no sound. So just change it.

Vibrate on new mail is working for you?? You appear to be the only one who has this working. What did you do to get it to work?

Gee thanks smart ass.
You think we haven't already been through the notification settings?? The problem of not vibrating when new mail arrives (no matter how it's set) has already been verified by many other folks in another thread, and reported to MS. So if you've magically got yours working, please share the info.
BTW, as far as waking up when new mail arrives, MS says that behavior is intentional so as not to impact battery. What that means is that if you have new mail set to notify you onscreen of a new mail, it will not wake the device and you will only see the notification when you bring the device out of standby. Audio notifications of new mail appear to work just fine though.
@summiter:
Tks for everything in that last post! We are not id10t's here....
I wonder how M$ plans on fixing the vibrate bug tho.... AKU3?

Ok here's what I think... whether he is a smart as or not, and whether he realizes it or not, he is kinda right (even though we all know that setting.)
If you go to "Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications > Messaging: New e-mail message" you can set it to notify you with a sound, vibrate doesn't work, and the device doesn't turn on when it notifies you. I think this IS by design. If you got 100 emails a day (or more in some cases) your phone would be on ALL day. So I have concluded that this was intentional on M$'s part. So its all good (also I REALLY LIKE THIS ROM, vs stock 8125), plus I don't know if my 8125 ROM vibrated when e-mail was received either. Can anyone with original 8125 ROM confirm this?

New mail will not turn on the screen..this is indeed by design as confirmed by Jason at MS. Per MS it is to conserve power.
New mail audio notifications work as expected.
New mail vibrate does not work, it apparently should, and MS has been notified, and they in turn have notified Imate. Whether Qtek and other device makers have been notified, I don't know.
There is a thread on the vibrate-on-new-email problem in the Wizard forum that was started almost 2 weeks ago. That is also where the notification and feedback from MS is quoted. The problem has been forwarded to the WM folks inside MS.
Hope this clears things up a tad. =)
indeed it does. I dont NEED the vibrate, it would be nice but, I dotn NEED it. Plus I must say that I am SOOO INTENT on keeping this ROM (me likes, much faster than stock cingular) that I almost dont care at all...
Later; Lew
Is this problem unique to the Wizards?
Sound/Vibrate works for me
The sound notification works for me. When push e-mail comes in it plays my sound. The wav file I use for e-mail notification is on my SD card to boot.
Before push e-mail I used the Exchange AUTD feature and that actually did turn the screen on and played my sound. With push e-mail it just plays the sound, but the screen doesn't light up. I actually like this better. Usually my phone is out of sight anyway so I don't care if the screen lights up or not. This way it conserves battery better.
As to vibrate, if I set the phone to vibrate using the Comm button it vibrates when I get mail as well, and it still doesn't turn on the screen.
If I set the new mail notification to vibrate under Sounds and Notifications it also vibrates and doesn't turn on the screen.
I am running the stock ROM I have not installed anything on it. I have not done any customization to make these things work. They just work for me. I notice most users reporting this are using the new Cingular 8125. I am using an OEM Qtek 9100.
Qtek 9100
2.17.7.2 WWE
It seems that the issue isn't really an issue unique to push email. I'm using VeriChat (IM client) and when IM's arrive, the notification while in standby has exactly the same behavior as with push email (sound if volume is up, but never vibe, whereas vibe will work if the screen is on).
I think the issue is that the device is set to never vibrate when in standby. Period.
An incoming phone call wakes the device. Vibe will work since the device is already in a powered-up state. SMS is the same thing - the arrival of an SMS causes the device to wake up; therefore the vibe can proceed since it is no longer in standby.
Pre-push AUTD includes the receipt of an SMS triggering a pull - that's what allowed the device to wake up and vibe.
Push email (and, for that matter, scheduled pull email) does not wake up the device; neither does an IM client.
What is still baffling me is why some people seem to not have this issue. It appears to have less to do with the actual device and more the ROM (which makes sense). I'm still hoping that someone with more reverse engineering skills than I have can diff the extended ROM's of a device where this works (like the QTEK out of the box?) with one where it doesn't (e.g., the update for Cingular) and put together a little cab that would fix this annoying quirk.
I'm thinking that those of us who have the issue (and care about it!) may want to pool together a pot to reward the first to solve this problem... Just a thought..
I concur
I have the QTEK 9100 and 2.17 ROM. Have the same problem, on msg receive I only get sound no vibrate (when device is off). I have heard from others who have other WM5 devices that they do get the vibrate and when I spoke to the MSFT product guys at CTIA they all seemed surprised that this does not work. So I dont think its by design, its a problem with the 2.17 ROM that we all have. There probably is a workaround. Anyone hear of one?
I have disable email notifications on the phone, however an email notification shows up over my messenger icon from the stock Tilt messenger program from AT&T. I remember reading somewhere that there was a registry edit to change this but i cant seem to find it. I tried using Te kaiser tweak program before and it kept freezing my phone on the green windows mobile phone, and i had to hard reset a few times. Anyone have a solution for me not to see new emails in the task bar that cover the Stock Messenger program?
no one has a solution?
I dont quite follow your question. If your device has more than one type of notification (eg voicemail/email/sms/mms/reminder/im) to show at the same time then it should show a speech bubble, which you then click on and it opens a second line to show all the current notifications.
the problem is disable email notifications doesnt disable them in the taskbar. If you used the stock Messenger program on the tilt it would make more sense
what messenger programs do you guys use? I have the AIM one that uses data but I dont like not being able to tell I got an IM unless I amin the screen
am I the only one that uses the stock tilt aim program and is annoyed by it
I think so....
1) Disabling email notifications disables the pop up on screen messages - not the Envelope.
2) Have you tried Windows Live Messenger?

You know that that one uses SMS right? OZ is garbage, use something else for aim. . .
i just like having it being able to tell me i got a message in the task bar. So i can be in the home screen or something and know I got a message.
live messenger doesnt have AOL IM support
Hey...
I asked this question a while back in the PPC6700 forums when I had that device on WM5...never found an answer. I'm hoping something has changed in that time frame.
I want to be able to have audible alerts for incoming e-mail, but ONLY from specific senders. Using SMS is not an option.
So, for instance if I get an email from [email protected] it will ring an alarm (at 3am and wake me up) but if is an e-mail from anyone else it will stay silent.
Any way to do this, even if I have to purchase an additonal application?
thx!
I realize that its name, Photo Contacts Pro, is a bit misleading, but this is a very powerful/flexible program that will do exactly what you're looking for. Take a look at its incarnations at the vendor's website and decide for yourself -- there's alot there to read:
http://xxx.pocketx.com
Thanks Mark,
Are you 100% sure that this application can do what I ask?
I looked on their website and their features list that you can assign distinctive Ring and SMS tones to different contacts. It doesn't mention anything about e-mail.
I would plan on using pocket outlook with push mail from an Exchange server...so I really think it would be the function of the mail client to differentiate one incoming e-mail from another. Maybe there is a more feature rich e-mail client that has this functionality?
If you have actually done what I have asked (distinctive alerts to specific EMAIL addresses), then I will download the demo and see what I can do...
thanks again!

Hate to disappoint but it will not do that. This software currently operates on incoming caller id (sms has that also) not email address. I did suggest the use of email to them in addition to sms so they may someday do some work on it but not now.
Although I don't currently know of anything that will do what you want (which doesn't mean it isn't available) you MAY be able to get around the limitation.
I would try having the exchange server fire out a short note or even a forward of the email to your phone's sms address. They all have the ability to get the email as sms albeit it would be chopped to 160 chars. Now, if you can identify the source of the incoming sms via caller id you can indeed use photocontacts by creating a special profile with silence being the default for all contacts except the exchange server forwards. This way the incoming sms will set off the alarm which will tell you to check your email.
Hey, better than nothing, no?
eh..yeah thanks NY... I was afraid of that answer.
What we did for our alerting system previously was have the alerts sent to the phone mail/SMS address and all other e-mails to our normal exchange. This way we would turn on SMS alerts and turn off e-mail. It does work, but not the ideal solution. It would be so simple to have this functionlity in pocket Outlook as a "rule" too bad they haven't gotten there yet!
thanks
having that kind of selection hasn't gotten that far yet, don't forget this is a pocket pc with phone capabilities

I'm aware of a couple of programs that will alert based on email sender, subject, etc. The first is Message Alerts, and the second is Watchflag. I've never used Watchflags before, but it looks pretty good. I used Message Alerts back when I had a RIM Blackberry. It worked perfectly.
Try also phoneAlarm V2.0 not 1.66 from http://www.pocketmax.net
This is a new option in V2.0
Beautiful guys thanks! All 3 look like they will do what i want (from description) I will try them out.
thanks again!
bengalih, thanks for the link. Question for you, did you ever try one of these programs? I guess my request is a little different than yours was in that I am not trying to notify by email address but simply by email account. So one notification for my Yahoo, another for my daughters and yet another for work. If one of these apps can accomplish this, then that would be great. Thanks again.
Email notification
This is only mildly related, but I want my new email notification to show the sender and/or subject line and not just "You have ## new email messages..."
I can't find any notification settings that would adjust this. Any suggestions?
I'm currently running the april 3rd version of Shifu's rom (which is pretty darn nifty if I may say so myself). Because I was having an issue with the windows live push email not working properly (setting sync schedule to "As items Arrive"), I updated windows live to the april 4th version on this site:
http://mobile.microsoft.com/live/en-us/mobile/default.mspx
Now the push emails works for hotmail (awesome)... but there's no notification. I know the emails come in because in the touch flow, next to the envelope i get the (1) showing a new message... but nothing pops up, no mail icon in the top bar, no sound, no blinky orange light, no vibrate... nothing. I made sure I set it to vibrate and make a sound at the receipt of an email, and it was working before when I would receive a new email through the older version of live messenger. Is there a way to set that up in the registry? or is it simply a problem with windows live messenger?
Guys, can anybody help me with this one?
I'm running Touch-IT 12 on my Xperia but have always had the following issue.
Basically, whenever I receive a new Email message, my phone will not come out of standby to tell me. I have to bring it out of standby myself and then touch the screen in order to see the message number go up.
I have the notifications turned on and have an alert and vibration set for new Email message.
I reads somewhere to change the "AC resuming from suspend time" and "Battery resuming from suspend time" from 1 second to 60 seconds. Done this and after a soft reset, still no joy.
Can someone help with this VERY annoying problem? All I want is to be told when I get an Email! Any help would be very much appreciated.
Regards
Sonny

install xperia tweak and on the front page of it untick disable wakeup on new message
Still no joy
Nope, still no joy.
Also, I've now noticed that if I get a new message on the phone, but don't go into my inbox, when I receive another new message, I will get the notification.
Very strange. I thought it may be down to doing a send/receive in Outlook rather than Live, but still no difference.
Very weird and so so annoying.

Dont know how i can help you then mate because i had the exact same problem and it was because i had that box ticked under xperia tweak - hope someone else knows a fix

I don't have push email. I'm talking about Windows Live sync being set to update whenever a new message is received.
Works fine in pulling the message, just won't sound the message tone or vibrate.
Work Around
Okay, after a lot of testing I've found a work around for my problem, not really a fix.
If I go into one of my other inboxes before going into standby, the notifications work fine.
If the last inbox I went into was Hotmail, then the notification won't work. If I move over to the Outlook inbox or SMS/MMS inbox, and then do whatever I like (except go back into the Hotmail inbox), the notifications work fine.
Not sure if anyone else has this problem. If so, I hope this helps for you too.
Again, this is when setting Windows Live to sync whenever a new message is received. The results seem as good as push email to me.
Regards
Sonny

I close it properly, ie press the X in the corner.
That being said, just tested the other possibility... not closing it properly and just pressing okay. With this leaving Hotmail running in the bakground, it works!
So we've come to the conclusion that minimizing Hotmail by pressing OK works and going into another inbox and properly closing messaging works also!
We're getting somewhere..!
Now only if there was a way to close Hotmail properly and not have to go into another inbox to have the notifications work!

Sonny
That's strange, I had expected the opposite... Perhaps there is a problem with the "wakeup" of tmail.exe... But I really have no idea how to fix this. Isuppose you have tried Softreset?
Ha ha! Tried very many soft resets!
I've had this issue with all of the custom roms I've used (all Itje's). Not sure if it's the roms, or the phone.
Oh well, at least I have a work around for it now. Better than nothing.
hey, i consatntly receive error page of ocurring with my tmail.exe.
what is tat and why is it appearing? what is happening?
i still cannot get mail notification at all..........
Now I have an issue with the notifications engine, but the reverse!
I use Manila which reflects perfectly new emails on the email icon in the slider tab, so I don't want the envelope to appear on the bar at the top. I've disabled all notifications for email (activesync), and of course the little envelope still appears.
It also remains there with a logic I haven't been able to define, even after opening the email, so I find myself going into the notifications screen to "dismiss all".
Would anybody know how to definitively stop the notification appearing at the top of the screen in the first place?
oh. wat i wan is opposite of urs.
any1 care to help?
