I'm picking one of these magnificent devices up in the next couple of days and was going to pick up the largest microSD card I could get. However, while looking for the cards, I am seeing microSD and microSDHC.
What is the difference?
Thanx.
Found this here (info copied to the bottom of post)

Which I think explains it but doesn't really help you. But I think this thread will:

"SDHC
8GB SDHC cards
8GB SDHC cards
An extension of the SD standard, SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity, SD 2.0), allows capacities in excess of 2 GB. SDHC cards are often formatted with the FAT32 file system, which supports partition sizes greater than 2 GB.[11] It uses the same form factor as SD, but the SD 2.0 standard in SDHC uses a different memory addressing method (sector addressing vs byte addressing), thus theoretically reaching a maximum capacity of up to 2048GB. SDHC cards only work in SDHC compatible devices, but standard SD cards work in both SD and SDHC devices. The SDHC trademark is licensed to ensure compatibility.[12]
SDHC cards have SD Speed Class Ratings defined by the SD Association. The SD Speed Class Ratings specify the following minimum sustained write speed on to empty SDHC cards:
* Class 2: 2 MB/s
* Class 4: 4 MB/s
* Class 6: 6 MB/s
[edit] SD and SDHC compatibility issues
As of early 2007, the simultaneous availability of non-standard 4 GB SD and 4 GB SDHC cards, and incompatibilities between SD and SDHC have caused confusion among consumers buying memory devices.
SD and SDHC cards and devices have these compatibility issues :
* Devices that do not specifically support SDHC do not recognize SDHC memory cards.
* Some manufacturers have produced 4 GB SD cards that conform to neither the SD2.0/SDHC spec nor existing SD devices."
Thank u 4 your input, mattarse. Good 2 know that the Kaiser will support ANY microSDHC card. Thanx 2 that, I ordered an 8GB microSDHC I saw on techdepot.com this morning (http://www.techdepot.com/pro/product.asp?productid=5699101).
Thanx again!

Just a post to confirm that the Kaiser works perfectly with that Sandisk 8 GB micro-SDHC. I now can carry the full Tomtom Europe maps and the full Wikipedia and still have 2 GB free.
Superb choice. I have a Sandisk 8gb MicroSDHC in mine.
(Suddenly feels inadequate with his lonely 4GB microSD card...)
Any news on when the 16Gb and 32Gb microsdhc cards are coming out?

We always want (need?) more. I have my 8 GB which is never full, depends on the use of course, if you're always on the way, you want to watch films, ok your sd will be full.
Now I'll also use as mp3 player, sure I'll complain it's not enought . Hope to see 16 GB asap hehe.
(want 32GB...what I have to wait ?? )
I'm presently running Toflock WM6 and wanted to install the biggest possible SD card so I can put TT6 UK & Europe plus tons of other stuff without swapping cards.
I was advised in the Hima forum that there were SDHC patches which would enable SDHC. So based on this advice I just bought an Adata 8GB card.
I've tried several patches and nothing works, even the non-HC cards stop working and I have to re-install the Extrom prog to bring it back
So has anyone managed to get a class 6 SHDC card running yet ? If so with what rom etc.
Thanks
i am sorry to tell u this but SDHC is not possible on any Hima YET !!..i released 2 or maybe 3 Patches my self but none of them work...users cant even run 4GB and u bought 8GB..hope its refundable
Okay, I'll just have to keep an eye out for threads about SDHC updates.
In the meantime the Adata 8GB SDHC card will have to serve as a healthy sized flash drive to swap movies / mp3s with friends/family etc.
I've noticed 'non-SDHC' 4gb 50x speed cards on ebay. Has anyone got positive experience of slower speed 4GB cards like this??

Forget it.
Decent 4 GB SD cards from well known manufacturers cost approx. 20 €/$
There is no need for this cheap crap.

r u sure?
how? and what product?
billionton, adata or what??
Yes, i'm sure!
It's a Transcend card
I've got an A-Data 4-Gb, pink stiker (it says: myflash, 150x turbo SD 4gb Adata) and it's working well (sure not at 150x, maybe 1x ). To be fair, I have tryed several ones diferent sizes and the bigger they are slower they work, not only on the PDA but in the PC as well.
Have you testet read/write access to the whole 4gb? As far as I know, you can use these cards, but you have no access beyond 2gb.
4GB CARD
I am working with Transcend 4GB Card and the speed is great , No problem at all.
I also use a Transcend 4GB SD and it works great. You can access the full 4Gb. I watch many tv series in my himalaya with tcpmp.
As I said full access to the 4Gb card. I used to travel with my 100Gb 2,5 USB HD, some times I thinks it's a shame there is no app to get acess to it through a kind o USB cable, wuold you imagine?
Hi,
I've just received my TyTn II and am interested in getting a memory card for it.
It takes Micro SD but what is the max size that it/WM6 will work with?
Also, what is Micro SDHC? and can I use it?
I've seen a 2GB MicroSD card for £7.55 del. but I probably want a bigger card.
I intend using it for tomtom - photos - some games and apps and of course data file storage.
TIA
Bryan
I picked up a SanDisk 8GB via Amazon for under $70 USD (minus shipping).
http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Micro...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204123335&sr=8-1
I have a San Disk 8gig in mine and it's great.
Cheers, Paul
Thanks for the quick replies,
As you are using 8GB cards they must be MicroSDHC? AFAIK MicroSD cards that hold 4GB or greater are all MicroSDHC.
Any chance you can pop your card and see?
The 8Gb SanDisk that I ordered is MicroSDHC (a.k.a. 2.0).
The HC stands for High Capacity and it is indeed for cards above 4 GB.
The device for the memory card has to be HC capable and lucky for us, our Kaiser is
Every micro sd card also has a class (2, 4 or 6 I believe). The higher the number, the better transfer rates (and response time), but also the bigger the cost.
I currently have a 6 GB (class 4) micro SD card. I'm going to wait a while to buy a new one until cards with about 16 GB or 32 GB (or something like that) of memory come around.
I'm also running the sandisk 8gb SDHC card. Its speedy and
works flawlessly. I got it on amazon for about 80 USD
The only thing i could recommend after having a card this big
is a good card exporting program on your phone so not
limited by activesync
Thanks for the help.
The 2GB MicroSD card at £7.55 seems very good value but I'll wait for an 8GB MicroSDHC deal to come along.
Hopefully a faster variant too..
Is it possible to connect the phone to a PC and have it recognised as a large memory stick? I know some phones do and then you can just explore them like a disc drive.
I will setup activesync at home for normal installation etc. but wondered if I could access the SD card whilst in phone from the PC/USB a la memory stick whilst at work.
yes, you can access the SD card like it's a memory stick by exploring. However, the transfer rate isn't as good as a USB connection with a stick. The 8GB SanDisk comes with a USB reader so that the card can actually be used in the reader just like a stick. Fastest transfer rate I've ever gotten with my phone
I'm using an 8Gb SanDisk MicroSDHC.
Works great!
I have a 8gb and it is fine.. but if you wait until next month you can pick up a 12gb and really have some storage space.
'im using a sandisk 6GB MicroSDHC for about 50canadian$

Talk about a deal i just purchased two 8gb for $70 because they were used and only came with one adapter.
I got my 8 gb sandisk sdhc card on ebay - another place to look for a great deal. Just be careful about the track record of the seller. I love the 8 gb card, but will be looking for a 16 gb card when they come out.
i saw the 16GB ones out anyone tried if it will work with the kaiser???
I run a Kingston 8GB SDHC in mine without problems (brought it over from my SDHC enabled Orbit), which I bought for £25 about 8 months ago from mobymemory. Never had any problems with it at all.
Hello,
i want to buy a bigger SD-Card for my Kaiser but which Size is the biggest that would work in the Phone?
4, 8, 16, 32GB or more???
Which Size are you using???
Thanks for the answers
Mrxdaking
32gb sdhc card is the max you can use.
I'm using a 16Gb.
SanDisk 16 gb, and works perfect.
I'm running a Kingston 16GB SDHC card, so far so good, however I am noticing some problems with Audio Manager with some albums.
Am just putting the music back on, to check if its not just a problem with the original transfers, but it shouldn't be.
Will keep you posted.
Avoid Sandisk 6 GB if you can
I'm using Sandisk 16 GB now and it's working fine. I used to have a Sandisk 6 GB in the same device and that was problematic and kept loosing files 3 times over a period of months so I'd personally avoid a 6 GB card in a TyTN II!
Agree with the above--16GB no problem. I wouldn't even bother with 32GB, they are sooo expensive and so easy to lose
I use an 8 GB sandisk since almost a year and a half and it just works perfectly, never faced any trouble using it
Let's all repeat each other..
I use an 8 GB sandisk and have no problems, also I use an 8 GB sandisk and have also had no problems.
its like deja vu all over again
btw: Did any of you ever notice a different speed with different classes?
e.g. is class4 faster (feeling) than class2 aso.?
I personally can't see any speed drop from 8gb class4 to 16gb class2
I got SanDisk 16gb class 4 in my Kaiser, and it works excellent.
hello,
i have bought 2 16GB (sandisk class 2) micro sd card for my kaisers.
i have 3. 2 htc 1 vodavone.
the 2 htc only see 1 GB
the vodavone kaiser doesn't sees the sd al all.. is there a tweak for the large sdhc or is it something else?
anyone an idea why my kaiser and touch only see less than 1GB of an 16GB microsd?

Not fat32 formatted? Or is it 16, sorry too drunk to remmeber, it's one of those.
so a sdhc card will work in kaiser (Tytn II) ?
Yes, it will.
Hi,
I have recently purchased a PNY 16GB micro SD card from play.com, marked as class 2; the strange thing is that the card came without the PNY brand and that made me a bit suspicious... it is marked C16G "Made in Japan", it looks like a Toshiba...
Anyways I did few tests and I got a writing speed of around 4-5MB/s , however the reading speed (tested with freeware HD Tach) is peaking only at 8MB/s where with my old 8GB card I can get 30MB/s at peak.
The tests have been performed on my PC using the HD2 in mass storage mode.
Has anybody bought the same card from Play?
What speed do you get with your memory card (tested in the same way)?
Thanks
speeds sound about right on a mobile device, i am not sure how you managed to get 30MB on a mobile as that is like 'unreal' speeds. For a desktop bechmark that seems fair but not in a mobile.
I made a test with a different software and I get the same writing/reading speeds. Note that the 8GB card is class 4.
Unfortunately I cannot use a desktop card reader for benchmark as the one I have got it's very slow.
Hence the reason for asking other people to test their memory cards on their phone.
Thanks
