For people that like to keep track of data usage, which one do ya'll use?
I use to use one for XP when I first started tething. I found NetTraffic and it seemed buggy and then I found NetCounter which seemed to not keeping track of my usage correctly.
Now NetTraffic has another app out due to complications in Market... whatever, but I wanna know what other people use or if they dont care.
NetCounter is good but the UI is a bit corky. Roiding is good, but the on/off popup seems genuinely random, and the UI is confused.
Leaning towards NetCounter. Still have run a test to compare the usage to my actual billed usage though...
i would like someone to release an app that does what SPB wireless manager does for WM. It tells you how much data you have used and also tells you how much data each app used so you can see which are the data hogs etc....

I beg to differ. Whilst it's feature rich and a very intuitive application which does an extremely good job at monitoring your GPRS/3G usage, it's a CPU/battery sucking WHORE and slows down your device, especially when streaming data.
I've had to (regrettably) uninstall it, as I just can't justify running an app that, when doing nothing, CONSTANTLY uses 1-2% of the CPU, and just turning on the tray icon increased that constant cpu usage to 3-4%. It NEVER drops down even when your data connection is completely idle. And if you're running it when watching any kind of streaming media, well, just forget about it. I've tried several versions and they all do the same things. I hope one day they can fix that... If you do a bit of searching you will also find many other people experiencing the same problem. With the limited battery life of the diamond, you will be shaving HOURS off your mean time b/w charges.
It's a real shame. And unfortunately I don't have any other alternative apps - I'm still looking for one myself.
So which versions of the Touch Diamond had SPB GPRS Monitor free on the CD? Mine did and mine's the UK edition.
I have personally waiting on this app on the Android platform since I got my G1. Don't sleep people..........http://www.palringo.com/en/gb/download IMO I will say its a Meebo Killer Keep in mind it's in beta so more features to come. (Push to Talk) Oh and check out the forum to add feature requests etc....
the program is still young it lacks some features but unlike meebo it seems you need data plan or wifi to get it working and not 3G.
It's so bad the program look promising.
?? you need data plan and not 3g??
what do you mean by that? 3g is just the connection speed?
it works flawlessly with a regular data connection here.
and it looks and feels as nice as the win mo version, if not more so.
How does this one handle battery life?
i have been using this app for a long time and like it a lot the log out should be fixed soon
I have this on my laptop, awesome messenger!!! I had this on my wing & my tilt, awesomer!!! I got it on my ipod touch, still awesome!!! Now its on my g1... not so awesome!!! It signs me out way too often. It seems everytime I close the app, it signs me out. I never had this issue with the program on any other platform before. But I can't wait for them to fix that cuz this is easily the best all in one messenger I have used
Does this thing save your conversations like Meebo does?
wow, looks really good .... no problems so far, connected to facebook chat, msn and icq!
please give feed back and feature requests to the forum:http://www.palringo.com/en/gb/forum/support/android/
Oh sorry i mean it works with data connection et no wap
like the regular IM
Sooooo, how is it effecting everyones battery? I'm still on the fence on whether to use this over the stock IMs.

So far battery isn't an issue cuz it doesn't stay connected long enough to suck any juice. But I can say on my wing, tilt & ipod, it never drained my battery
I'm waiting for an update.....the PTT feature and the LBS are worth the wait....
drains battery and disconnects, but chat rooms are fun. would be perfect if it didn't drain battery (dun think they can do anything about that), and if they fixed the disconnects....
I'm leaning pretty strong towards the former, but let me just say I am a *BIG* fan of Android. I bought the ADP1, and gave that to my wife when I switched to T-Mo & bought the MT3G. Both are great devices, and I run cm on them. Overall I have a great experience with these phones & they're super fun & convenient.
But on both devices, both when I had the ADP1 on AT&T and with the MT3G with T-Mo, (where I live I have to roam off of AT&T, so it's using the same towers as before.) all IM apps stink because they cannot stay connected. This is including the built-in gtalk & sms-based IM apps and every other free one on the market that I've tried. IM+, Meebo, eBuddy, Aimer, Hi Aim/Yahoo, imov, Palringo, all fail to keep a session open. I'm almost certain it's something with Android, because it's the same on mobile networks as with wifi, and I've used BlackBerrys on the very same networks & locations and not had this problem. At all.
So what gives? I'm not gonna pay for a chat app, even if that would solve the problem. These apps are free on BlackBerry, and I have a spare BB that I can swap my sim card into if I have to & just use the MT3G as a MID where I have wifi available. I'd love to jump in and try to write a chat app for Android that fixes this problem, but I'm at best a n00b dev & don't know where to begin. If there's someone out there with some guidance on how to get started on that, or if the problem is specific to something with me/my devices, or can explain this so I can understand the problem if not solve it, or any other input at all I'd love to get your feedback.
Maybe it's you or something up with your service
Maybe it's you, something up with your service, or your particular phones. Where my parents live, nothing works but ATT. I've had two BB which I couldn't even receive a signal.
Then when I moved up to the Dash and then to the wing, I received one bar and I could get all of my services to work, even the IM services. When I moved to the G1, two bars.
Now, with the MyTouch, I get three bars and all of my apps which require the network work. IM, text, phone. The blackberry wouldn't even get a signal let alone IM.
So maybe it has something to do with the service and the phone.
wierd thing is, at the very same location & networks, both wap & wifi, i get a completely different result on the mt3g than i do on the bb. there has to be something wrong with the android network stack or how IM apps use it or something.
hopefully i'm not speaking too soon...
... but i may have fixed my problem. i was thinking about how Android puts applications to sleep if it's low on memory, so i changed my userinit.sh script to enable swap. been logged in all afternoon. we'll see how well this continues...
confirmed resolution
enabling swap fixed the problem. apparently Android system tells the chat apps to shut down to free up ram & they can no longer keep their sessions open.
thanks for the hint.
Thought about this a lot but didn't want to try.
Now I'll have to... Thanks
i used to use ebuddy on my htc magic.
and now i use the built in google voice/chat with my milestone.
both have been great for me...especially the latter. I dont even need to log on or anythnig. its just like recieving text messages
Now i have 256 megs of ram size. everything works just fine. more than that. minimal lag on switching apps and tabs(highest so far was 4 seconds)
Hello guiz. I am completely new with how to tweak the innards of my MyTouch.
What is this "swapping" you guys are talking about and how do you activate it?
Does it really help keep the AIM session connected despite being in the background?
I've always knew of the problem that causes AIM to constantly sign off when I try
using it, but never knew how to address the source issue.
Thanks for reply!
I've had this question for a while, and it's really bugging me. It is not a specific Android question, but maybe there is an Android solution.
Is it common for Vogues to only poll/activate the GPS when a "non-service" app is requesting it? In other words, I want the GPS active in the background no matter what else I'm doing on my phone. With my wife's blackberry, the GPS is active all of the time and updating Latitude the entire time the phone is on. Can this be done with Vogue? Right now, my GPS is only active when I run an app that wants to use it explicitly, such as Maps or GPSTest. Is there not an Android service that would run in the background to do this?
There's nothing I'm aware of that does this (though I'm wrong.. lots.. lol) GPS is a huge battery hog, so that's why it only runs 'on demand'.
Thank you for the reply. I just wanted to make sure it was expected behavior.
I would be OK with the battery drain. I'm kinda surprised there are no android apps/services to do this.....
hmm...
I've always wondered this with regards to Google Search locally oriented searches - how would it determine what's local? It seems to quick for it to be able to get a fix
To be honest with you.....the GPS functionality on the Vogue doesn't make much sense, and it's pretty much useless unless you plan on running maps (or your favorite gps app) in the foreground. As soon as you get a call and app changes to background, you risk losing your GPS lock.

The GPS lock comes back. I've turned off the screen, taken calls, changed apps, and GPS has always worked for me.
I hear all this stuff that GPS doesn't work, and I'd fix it, but I have no debug info! It works for me...
Cheers,
Im using these 2 apps to monitor my Data usage since im on a 1000MB data
limit. My Data Manager is nice and gives me also my wifi Data Activity and also
breaks down the usage to which apps uses the bandwidth. Droidstat on the other
hand not only monitors my Data Usage but also my Free Calls and Texts, which I
find important as well since im on a 500minutes/500texts plan.
My question tho is that how come these 2 apps gives me different figures for my
data usage? I mean for My Data Manager it says that I have already consumed
542MB with 11days left, while DroidStats says 745MB Data Remaining with 11days
remaining on Billing Month any idea as to which one is more accurate? or maybe im
missing something? I didnt notice this during my first billing period, as of the moment
im erring on the side of caution and just assuming that My Data Manager is the
correct one as I dont want to go overboard my limits.
Thanks.
I have never used those 2 apps.. but just a suggestion, use 3G Watchdog (Pro if u want to buy) best app.. 100% accurate 3G+Wi-Fi usage and very cool design
