Gaurav Tandon is a 34 year old professional working with Datacraft Asia (a private IT firm) in Mumbai, India. His small family comprises wife, a 6 year old son. He has two elder sisters both are happily married and a brother who is serving as Captain in the Indian Army.
Gaurav was detected with AML (a type of Blood Cancer) in November 2008. He has responded well to chemotherapy, but must get a Bone Marrow Transplant as the only possibility for a cure. Unfortunately the HLA typing test of his siblings is negative. Doctors have therefore strongly recommemded a Non-Related Allogenic transplant. Since such transplantations are rarely performed in India, there is a high chance that we have to take him to places like Singapore, UK or the USA.
Gaurav's wife is a teacher in my college
So this is her student asking for help

I today got the message below PM'ed to me requesting money. Everybody take note it is a con as I have seen these before they usually end up sending you a fake cheque or you send them your account details and they take money from your account.

Friend needs heart-bypass surgery..

I'm new at this community (I forgot my old login years ago) and I know that this could be too much. And since I'm doing this as a "desperate measure" kindly read on.
My very close friend was diagnosed with a heart problem and he needs a series of surgery. He also has this condition that when he drinks liquid, some of it pours down to his lungs (I forgot the medical term used). He didn't want to bother anyone else so he kept it to himself for 3 years! He has two little boys and it pains me to know that he just want to wait until his time comes. He doesn't have any insurance since he was working freelance. And he does not have enough money to even get the series of operations started. He even said that, if he had money, he'll just leave it for his family. He was skeptical. We finally convinced him, that he go through with the surgeries, if, I and some of my friends raise enough amount for the operation. He agreed. I started calling government agencies, charitable institutions but all they could say is that we couldn't be accommodated. Some friends chipped in a couple of thousand pesos, made blogs, posted in different forums. I sold some of my gadgets and my beloved Atom. He needed surgery asap and time is ticking for him. Please pray for him and please pray that we find a pro-bono surgeon.
Thank you.
You have my prayers
Minez to everthing will work out for the best
thanks guys.

free Himalaya for developers!!!

well, a month ago I bought Blackstone, and I feel good )
and as thankful user I would like to donate my Himalaya to somebody of developers on this site. I hope it will help to build more good and stable roms.
Himalaya (originally it's I-mate / Qteck) fully working, it comes with additional battery, earphones, cradle and leathercase. maybe something more, I don't remember already.
touch screen of the device is burst in several places, but is still working. for development use you don't have to replace it.
that's all about it.
now how to get? I live in Israel, so you pay only shipping or in a month I'm gonna visit Germany(Nurnberg) and I can take it with me.
btw: I do not speak english very well, so sorry
Yes i have to new Hima
My suggestion is to send Master Ather90 the Hima. He's a little older than 18 and his last Hima is broken. So he left our forum and switched to another. He was one of our most activ developers and reacht moderator status. The problem for you might be his place, as he lives in Bahrain, but fro Germany it is no problem to send via DHL as a gift, with custom declaration. As the device is worth aproximately 50€, it is possible that he has to pay a small amont of tax.
I think, a lot of people miss him and his work, so you would do us a big favoir.
Very good Idea.....

yeah, the truth is that I would like to give it to ather90. I used one of his rom and liked it.
so be it.
shipping may be the problem for me. so I can take it to germany, I will stay there for a couple of weeks (17-30 june) and everyone is welcome to come and to transfer it to ather90.
That is great, you're the man of the day, Kap60HaT!
I wanted to send my own secundary Xda to ather but then I got in trouble with the Qtek I used the other day. So I have got the information to send a gift from Germany to Bahrain via DHL. I can send you the customs declaration too. It's some where around here . I will ask for the shipping asap, maybe you can send it from Nürnberg to ather90. If it is a prob for an israelian guy to send to the middle east, you have to post it to me if noone else could visit you, because I live ca. 500km to the north west.
We will get this job done, I'm sure.
great, really appreiciated Kap6oHaT
tell me once you are there and i'll let you know my address
from Israel there's no post service to Bahrain. and on Deutsche Post site, I saw it's about 14-15 euro, so there will be no problem.
I will need an exact address. you may pm me.
good news all, im back
just got the news from home that my device is there, soon i'll start cooking (once im dont with my eye opt.)
Cool, Kap6oHaT +1 !

For 17 minutes, we will push ourselves further, challenge ourselves deeper, feel the doubt and wonder if we can make it, but then remember why we are there and appreciate fully those who we wish to honor. We turn to you, our community of friends and family, to join us by donating what you can or what you are inspired to give to two phenomenal organizations that provide immediate and measurable support without waste or delay.

You survived that!
Thanks again for your efforts. These days Capitalism is just legalised greed, and keeps the money from reaching those who really need it. Charity work helps address the balance! Keep it up.

BiggsE Short Bio

Born in District Six, Cape Town, 69 years ago. Self- taught flute player/composer. www.soundcloud.com/brian-douglas-erasmus
Of limited means, subsisting via a state old age grant and the patronage of family and friends. Unmarried. Having escaped the tender trap?, still trying to figure out whether to be sad or glad.
Life journey to date, probably a mirror image of the sojourn of my fellow travelers. Days spent practicing the flute, drinking red wine, watching television. Interested in politics. Given the current international circumstances, who wouldn't be. Not much more to tell, I suppose...
Welcome to the xda family.
Cheers.
Thanks. Hopefully some kind soul will help me fix my phone.
