Which Opera version? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

There are so many Opera versions out there...
The one I have been using 15316. Before that I was using some other version, I can't remember which.
Anyway, I am tired of this flipping the screen upside down everytime I exit it (in landscape).
Which is the best version to use on a Tilt?

I was using Opera 9.5 beta 2, and hated the whole widget mess that they created, so I rolled back to beta 1. So far no complaints.

Where can I get it? What is the build number?

Just a tip, build 15233 ripped from the Omnia worked very well in the short time I used it. There was no screen flipping problem, and it was very stable. It also supported zooming by sliding your finger on the side of the screen. I think the real reason I stopped using it was there was some kind of text reflow issue when you zoomed it though. It has no widgets, although it installs a shortcut to the non-existent widgets, so you need to delete it.
However, I currently use NFSFan's build 15316, which I like due to its 10 tab support and speed. However, as a trade off, it suffers from the screen flipping problem if you minimize it or touch the taskbar while using it. And I definitely agree with TelloMan about the widgets, they just waste space and annoy me. Try to keep looking around XDA, especially in Development and Hacking (where I found many opera builds).
Dave

Yeah, NSFan's 15316 is the one I'm using now. The screen flipping is driving me crazy.
It's hard to believe there isn't one decent browser for Windows Mobile. Anyone know what's going on with that Firefox Mobile?

you're referring to "Minimo" by Mozilla. I haven't seen or heard much lately from them. There's some opera builds are fairly close to perfection depending on what irritates you the least amount. Too bad none of them has flash working perfectly yet. If I had to choose 2 browsers for WM, it would be netfront and opera mobile

well... call me heretic, but imho for casual browsing and forums the best one is opera mini and if I need to use my bank's web page or anything more complicated iexplorer is reliable enough. additionally, I have skyfire installed on my memcard just to make sure that I can browse whatever I want.
the answer? opera mini and skyfire in my opinion. I am tired of o.mobile bugs and new builds every few days/weeks.

Actually, I think he is referring to Fennec, not minimo. Minimo was horrible and requires very high specs, while Fennec, which is still in alpha/early beta, is very unstable yet very promising. It will be quite a while before it will be really usable. I would just stick to opera mobile for now. Skyfire works well, but isn't 100% stable. Opera mini is fast, but not full featured.
As I said, Fennec is very promising, but it is extremely unstable and VGA only for now.

I agree about Mini i use it for pretty much everything then for sensitive info use Mobile.
"I like fast pages and come from SP stock so used to the Mini approach"

I used to get annoyed by the text flipping, but Manila2D always corrects the screen back to portrait when you hit the homescreen. I've been using that as my bandaid.

Build 15233 is yummy

Like Dave was, I just got build 15233 running per the instructions at
http://www.smartphonemag.com/cms/blog/9/tutorial-everything-you-need-know-about-flash-lite-3-and-playing-back-flash-web-videos
and it is by far the best browser experience I've had on my Tilt yet. Flash even worked on http://www.spezzo.com.
It isn't very fast, but compared to IE and the first Minimo, this actually WORKS. I can switch from mobile versions to desktop versions, zoom and scroll, and it uses my IE favorites.

Opera Mini vs Opera Beta

for those of you who have tried the new Opera 9.33 beta or the Opera 9.5, do you think its better then the Opera Mini?
For those of you who haven't tried it the link is right here
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368811
and I got a questions about this aswell. i want to install the Opera beta on my phone and i'm currently running Open Touch v3.0 Slimeline, is there a way were i can replace the Opera Mini so i wont have to Opera's on my phone and have it take up even more space?
thanks in advance
I installed the beta but didn't rly like it so i stayed with Mini, i'm running slimline as well
as for deleting the mini it barely takes any space, plus its build in the rom so i dont know if its deletable

yeah, the regular opera sucks!!! i had it before. opera mini like downloads the webpage through operas servers or something, while the standard opera is a standalone which is just as slow as IE. only advantage is that it dosent have to run in java.

The new version is nothing like the 8.XX version. It's supposed to be a billion times better. I haven't tried it, yet, though.
the official new yes i'm sure i'd love it, but for some reason this early beta release is annoying me rly bad
The UI is very nice... you can just read the thread to see the opinions if you really want some more depth. It's a tad sluggish and kinda buggy, but I can't wait to see what the release version will look like--it looks pretty amazing right now.
The icons are pretty huge, I have a feeling that will get changed, though, because it seems like a lot of people don't like that...

No it doesn't.
Opera Mobile is a full browser which doesn't use or require a transcoder/proxy.
I would use both, but be aware that it's a beta.
Try the the new Opera Mobile to figure it yourself.
I'll recommend to make a backup of your device before, as you should always if you test beta software
The bad thing is that the Beta installs itself directly into the \Windows folder and wastes like 9MB.

Wow... that's a big chunk of space... maybe if it was something freeware and cookable (at least legally cookable...) we could replace pocket IE with it...
I installed it last night on my spare wing and didn't care too much for this alpha release. Why?
1) text sections dont fit to screen like Opera Mini, so scrolling is involved
2) very buggy right now, especially the UI components and menus
3) felt sluggish compared to Opera Mini
4) no flash support
5) too friggin fat! as stated its about 9 megs installed
6)The version I dl'd didn't have an uninstall option. I manually deleted all the Opera9 folders and .exe to regain space.
I do have to say I like where they're going with this browser, scrolling is very fast and smooth. I for one will be waiting for this to hit beta and hope all the minor annoyances are cleared up. Unfortunately I don't see it being the iPhone safari killer people are touting it as unless somehow flash works it's way in, and I can finally have my Pandora on the road =)

I gave this version a shot and really like it. Zooming in and out works really well, scrolling is very smooth, it automatically goes to full screen and hides menus during/after loading a page(except on arrow in the corner to bring it back up). User interface is excellent in my opinion. Only complaint I have for it is that text sections don't fit to screen like Opera Mini.

opera...is it me?

i really can't get to grips with it on WM6.1
love it on my pc....but on the diamond....i hate it and can't use it
anyone else find this....or am i just getting old?
Well I have put Opera 9.5 on my XDA Stellar and my mates Orbit 2 since experiencing on the Diamond - I like it, my mate loves it - guess it's just a matter of taste - what specifically don't you like?
i just can't use
it must be me

Nope, given up on it as well. Gmail takes ages to load, and when it does, the smart scaling thing makes it impossible to use.
IE loads in a few seconds and everything looks good.
IE for me
YES IT WORKS FINE FOR ME...IE ALL THE WAY
Never thought i would prefer IE over anything but compared to Opera, yes, IE for me. I do hope however for a Firefox version for WM one day
Me too, tend to use Opera mini or pie, Opera mobile takes too long, takes too much memory, and slips sliding about all the time. Plus, sometimes the text doesn't reflow properly and is 'just' too large for the screen. Very irritating.

Opera way too slow!!!

Stock Opera is way too slow,is anybody using Operamini 4 ? I used to use this on my Tilt phone and 10 time's faster!!
I use both.. yes mini is faster, but lacks a lot of the funcionality of opera mobile.

Yes, Stock Diamond Opera is slow and Mini is much faster (I used it as my primary browser on the Touch Dual) but, as previously indicated, has fewer features. I can get over that for alot of browsing but the bigger problem to me is that it is really hard to use Opera Mini's menus on the Diamond as they are so small on the VGA screen (and I chose the option for larger fonts - still too small.)
Yeah, I agree, I used to use Opera Mini on my Hermes device and it was very quick at page rendering, zoom in/out (re-draws) etc. To be honest, it actually suited my needs in terms of functionally. I also tried Opera Mobile on the Hermes and it is just as slow as on my Diamond.
I've not tried Mini on my Diamond (I don't do much web browsing) but would like to try it out.

sorry for waking up the thread; but have you tried Jblend 3.3.5 java? I think the font is OK on medium with that one.
Opera vs IE
I used Opera Mobile exclusively on my Q9H and much preferred it to IE. However, on my Diamond (US unlocked GSM) I do not like the minimal settings control options available for display. That must be an HTC overlay thing linked to the touch. I cannot get the windows in Opera to render in an easily useable format. With IE all the usual flexibility is there and I get excellent "fit to screen" displays in either landscape or portrait (thanks to Gravitator 2)... and it's not too slow.
I know I can zoom with the touch in Opera, but I am having to constantly fiddle with it to get usable displays. Am I missing something obvious? Maybe I should download a stand alone Opera Mobile and try that?
Meanwhile, I await the work on modding TF3D so I can change the link on the slider page to IE.
yea i really do agree with you, considering the power of the device there is no stable + quick way to browse the internet and it really annoys me
This is a bad comparison i know, but i've got an ipod touch and their safari browser is stable + smooth, which is how ours should be.
Its sad to say that even PIE or PIE Plus aren't even as smooth. Maybe opera will get their act together and make it quicker after all they have some nice hardware to code it around!

Anyone Try Out Iris Browser?

Looks pretty cool. I'm downloading now.
http://on10.net/blogs/sarahintampa/Iris-A-New-Browser-for-Windows-Mobile-Emerges-from-Beta/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpX5JZWtu-g
http://www.irisbrowser.com/download/
The Iris Browser is a new, Webkit-based web browser for Windows Mobile devices running versions 5 or 6(+). The company recently released an updated version (Iris Browser 1.1.0) which is a very different piece of software than the one that was being used by beta testers. In the latest update, the company says they’ve merged a year’s worth of WebKit development into the browser while also re-auditing all their work, addressing performance issues, and making the browser capable of viewing almost any website on the net.
Most notably to end users, the refreshed browser now provides Flash support by way of a plugin that converts the Flash Lite ActiveX control into an Iris Browser plugin. The end result is that when you browse to Flash-enabled pages, you will see a black image with a play button which you can click to optionally see the Flash content.
The new Iris browser is highly compliant, too, scoring a 100/100 on Acid3 with only a couple of minor rendering glitches. Those glitches are related to fonts, where they deliberately cut some corners for better performance. Iris is also highly compatible with iPhone websites, the company reports.

For flash support, install the official Flash player 3.1 to your device, (not memory card), and unzip the attached file (NPFL3ppc.dll) to \Program Files\Iris Browser\Plugins Flash should now work in Iris Browser.

Well sorry but to me it's skyfire that "sucks balls"....
For comparable "speedy" browsing I much prefer Opera Mini, now as sometimes a "full" browser with local rendering is needed I was still looking for one and it seems Iris does the job.
And it's also supposed to supplrt flash if you read above. I didn't manage to get it wirking with those instructions though... not that I care much actually.

apparently, i am a moron. the download is not in cab format, and i do not know how to install it. i did not see any instruction on their site.

I'm so supprised more peeps don't use Mini as defacto browser as it's so fast, also keeps my data costs down, there is times i use fully fledged browser but Mobile does the trick.
Have found evey iris release slow to render page and then even when rendered "or so you think" you move the page down and get grey squares, just like Skyfire.
Just my opinion.
Yea for me Mini does 95% of the job, but I have a couple of sites I visit that don't appreciate the whole going through a 3rd party server thing. I ditched Mobile as the full-fledged alternative because all the versions I tried had very annoying bugs (from SIP bugs to Mobile switching the phone to reverse landscape when quitting it if i had been using it in landscape mode for example). That iris version seems to be a bit faster rendering too.
dont get me wrong opera mini is my main browser built in but for tubin' and myspace theres nothin better than skyfire.
I just installed 1.1.3 and this thing is *AMAZING*
Best browser I've ever used on windows mobile.
Stuff just looks ... *right*
I'm so happy winmo is finally get a browser to rival Safari. THIS IS IT.
Personally, i don't think it is great ...there are alot of bugs and the biggest one for me is the HUGE memory consumption and ungracefull UI. People Like opera becaus you have a full screen to work with... and this right now is not cutting it for me.
I'll watch its progress i guess, its not quite "up to speed" for me yet....

hmm... haven't tried NetFront; haven't even heard of it up until you mentioned it... does it have OOB flash support? i've tried opera and skyfire, and the new version of IE shipping with wm6.1/wm6.5... so far, Iris seems to be the best browser for me... features like g-sensor (accelerometer) support, touch wheel (HTC Diamond/Touch Pro devices) support, mouse emulation, etc.. really make it the best choice for me.
anyone
Has anyone got iris browser 2.0(latest) version? Torch mobile is no longer there. RIM has taken over and it is no longer available for download. I am using 1.1.9 at the moment.
If anyone has it please post it.

best browser?

what version is the opera browser already installed on the xperia x1? i have both this one and opera mobile 10
and in ur openion what is the best browser for the x1?
I installed Skyfire from the windows marketplace and i've got to say its very fast and very easy to use - my second choice would be the opera pre-installed because you can use the volumn buttons to zoom in (unlike opera 10 )
Best PPC Browser I've ever used: UC Web Browser
Free - Fast - Anonymouse
I guess it's 9.5.
surprising nobody has voted for PIE yet
my vote went for opera mini
Opera rocks like none............................ Its user interface has now set a benchmark which will let us, the user to feel the web in our hand without being connected to wires.
lol opera mobile 10 is sweet, full internet support, even youtube like the desktop experience
I will say that:
There's still no perfect browser.
I don't know if there will be any.
For now Opera Mini 5 native for WM is the fastest
and works good,
but OMobile 10 supports more things in browsing.
Unfortunately still OMobile 9.5
on X1 can do things no other can do....
Best browser for me would be Opera mobile 10 with the possibilities of Skyfire. Now it is Opera Mobile 10 because its fast, but I also use Skyfire if I cant get the desktop version of a site on Opera Mobile.

Agreed about the 9.5 I find that the pluses outweigh the minuses in this particular case.
SkyFire was pathetic at the beginning, but is getting better with every update. Too bad it doesn't have multiple tab support, yet.
Mini annoys me for some reason.
The Fennec browser will be the next big thing IMHO. It is quite awesome even on this early stage of development.

Yup, I have faith, though. Put on hold doesn't mean cancelled + they are still developing it for other platforms.

Sadly, every browser have at least one major problem.
- Skyfire webpages looks like **** and there is no costumization options
- New IE in WM6.5 is actually really good, but is SLOOOOOOOOOOOW
- Opera already installed (probably you mean 9.x) dont support HW keyboard
- Opera mini dont have zoom setting (only font size which corrupt lots of pages) and dont support javascript.
- OM10 is really close to perfect browser, but when you click link or back button, there is no indication that it started loading, so you dont know if you actually clicked it.
Anyway, my choice is OM10.
