Has anyone had experience of these?
I was looking at a blaupunkt hamburg car stereo and whilst I can always use USB or 3.5mm aux jack to connect with my kaiser, I would like, if possible, the full bluetooth experience - with the stereo playing music off my kaiser and handling calls as well. I know it will handle the calls part, but what about the music part?
I guess the Kaiser supports BT "headphones", but I wondered if it was possible for a car head unit to pull track listings via BT from a phone, select which track to play etc.
I would really like to be able to have TomTom on the kaiser screen and select what music I want via the car stereo's controls.
Is this possible via BT? I know this unit does that via USB, but I can't seem to work out if track selection is possible via BT. I spoke to some salesmen, but all they quoted at me was "It has Audio Streaming" - I looked that up, but all it said was you could skip track etc - I want to be able to browse playlists on the head unit as well as play, pause etc.
Does BT degrade the quality too much? Would I be better off using the USB port?
depends on if the car stereo supports Stereo over Bluetooth. Go to the bluetooth on your pda, click and hold on the paired stereo and if it gives you the option - you're good otherwise you may need to find another solution.
It's not just stereo over bluetooth (A2DP) I want, it's the ability to browse playlists via the bluetooth device
I don't know of any BT unit that supports playlist browsing -- as I understand it, the AVRCP profile that supports skip, rewind, etc. doesn't support playlists. AFAIK, there's no BT profile for that.
I have a JVC (BT1)unit that can control the music player and stream the music from the Kaiser ,browsing the songs is mot possible
OK, so hard wired it is then.
I am thinking now that maybe BT isn't so wise anyway, I have an active holder, so wires are not a problem really and wires don't cut out randomly or get interference.
Mind you, I just realised that for it to work over USB, the device has to present itself as a mass storage device, which I don't think pocketpc phones do, do they? You need activesync...
Does anyone know if it is possible to run an app on a pocketpc that makes it present itself as a standard usb mass storage device and not an activesync device?
my motorola a2dp bluetooth stereo headphones worked with my unit just fine - they had play/pause/next/prev/volume buttons that worked too - decent sound quality also

You don't necessarily need activesync for this, but you might try Softick Card Export or WM5torage (when someone gets it working on the Kaiser).
I tried the demo of Softick Card Export II and it works, there also appears to be one called WM5Storage on Modaco, but it won't let me download it, I think I need a subscription or something. What is the license on WM5Storage? Can someone send me a copy?
[Edit - heh, was writing this as you posted. So WM5Storage doesn't work on the Kaiser yet?]
This should provide the best possible audio quality - an error corrected usb link to the stereo and also the best functionality - the stereo can browse the phone so you can scroll through lists of your music on the stereo head unit whilst tomtom displays on the kaiser screen

One problem I see with this is that AFAIK, Card Export, when in use, prevents all other access to the card from your pda, therefore your maps on the card would not be accessible to TomTom while you are playing music via USB.
Surur
order of contacts displayed
Does anybody know how I can change the order contacts are displayed on the screen of the car? After I have sync the Kaiser with the BT car device all cantacts were sorted first name / last name. I do want to change that?
Any tip?

You seem to be right on the money mate I got the stereo today, fitted it and got memory access violations when using tomtom and pulling tracks via USB
This is highly annoying, is it not technically possible to overcome this?
You could use smaller regional maps and store them in main memory?
Surur
Yeah, I could I suppose, but annoying - I paid for Western Europe and would like the whole thing on there all the time. You never know - you may go to a stag do, get drunk and wake up in France somewhere!
Persuing other angles at the mo - not got a word back from softick yet as to whether it is technically possible to access SD card via USB and phone at same time, and I have another thread exploring the possibility of an activesync to Mass Storage Device dongle.
We shall see.
I've got a Sony bluetooth unit and (MEX BT2500 or something) and use my Trinity for handsfree, TomTom and streaming music over Bluetooth - Kaiser turns up tomorrow but should be the same.
I use Coreplayer for music, it works great. You choose the music from the phone, but then you can skip tracks from the head unit. Sound quality is similar to using the aux port on the front - never had problems with interference or cutting out.
yeah, at the moment I just use the 3.5mm AUX input on the stereo and use pocket music.
I use "Double Launcher" to remap the internet explorer button - 1 press for tomtom, double press for pocket music - that way I can quickly switch between the two whilst driving by touch alone.
It's pretty good, but I would rather not have to take the map from the screen to select music, especially if you have a passenger who wants to browse available music. Plus the car head unit display is in big glowing letters which are easier to read at a distance. Also, it cuts down on a cable as the USB would cater for charge and audio.
Unfortunately the head unit only does audio for calls not audio streaming anyway, but I wasn't buying it for this as I figured bluetooth audio involved a lossy compression and so degraded quality - not an issue for phone calls but not the best for music, especially when it is already been through MP3 compression.
I got an answer from softick today, and it seems the limitation is imposed by their software. I have argued the case against the limitation, and they seem to be swaying towards giving something a go. Fingers crossed for a solution here.
HELP
Sorry to bring this back from the dead . .
But I am in the middle of purchasing a stereo for my car and want to be able to do a few things . .
1) More than anything i want to be able to stream my Iguidance or TomTom turn by turn directions over my stereo through bluetooth.
2) I want to be able to take calls while still having my directions being played. ( Ie. while driving and being told where to go, if I get a call it will silence the directions and the call will take over. )
3) I want to be able to switch from BT to CD or radio. So if say TomTom tells me, drive for 10 miles, I can switch to radio for a while so i can listen to music and then switch back after some time to get back on track with my directions. What would be even better is if it treated the directions just like a call and allowed me to listen to the radio or cds, and when TomTom decided to talk, it would mute or turn down the radio/cd and play TomTom over it for the moment of " In 2 miles, exit on the right ".
If this is not possible then it isn't really worth it to spend the extra $100 or so on a good headunit with bluetooth. please give me some info or ideas.
(On a side note, if I were to use a BT headset, and had tomtom running, would the commands for turn by turn directions be fed through my BT headset? And would I be able to take calls while still doing this? ) If yes, I may just end up getting a good BT headset and just a nice CD player because of cost.
anyone have any ideas?
please, someone? help me help me
All the ad sites for Tilt says it has irDA. When i try to install a remote control app, it says no IR port. I also tried it with my IBM T60. It is not detected. irDA is not in Tilt as advertised?????? shame!!!!

always search the Wiki first - I've answered this q there. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...nnections - Beam - Receive all incoming beams
As the poster above sort of says, the beam in the device refers to sending and accepting files via BT - as it doesnt have IR.

Really, which ad said it has irDA? None I saw said that, so certainly not all had that. As stated above, the Tilt and TyTN II do not have it.
I bought the tilt thru wirefly.com. The product specification says it. Below are the links. Moderator, i should have searched before i asked. sorry about that. The conclusion is no IRDA. I really liked the PPC remote for TV / DVD and other remote controled devices.

Well, you should let them know thier specs are wrong. I didn't contend no one listed it. I did take issue with your saying they "all" said it.

This is exactly why you should always do your homework before purchasing such an expensive device. Did you actually go on HTC's website and check the specs?
I havent noticed a visible IRDA port on my device but I was able to beam a contact from one phone to another. It took some wierd positioning of the phone but it did work. Seemed like it worked from the left hand side of the phone. I didnt use bluetooth, unless the tilt automatically attempts using bluetooth withut saying if it doesnt have irda?

The Tilt/TyTN II/Kaiser 100% definitely does NOT have irDA. If it did beam, it used BT. But then the receiving device would also have to have BT and it needed to be switched on.
The Tilt/TyTN II/Kaiser does (I beleive) automatically enable BT to beam.
Hi, I know this is an old thread. Let me put what I found anyway. The 8925 Tilt does not have IR. However, on selecting the Beam under settings, engage recieve beams and you can send stuff to it with BlueTooth. I just fired up the old 8525 and sent over some of the contacts with the extended info (extra numbers, picture, ringtone) and the 8525 connected BlueTooth without a hitch.
Understanding that you were more interested in employing the IR as a remote control. I noticed a number of hits on a Bing for BlueTooth to IR. It would seem the last couple of years have spawned a number of IR handoff devices that recieve your BT command and pass it off to PS3, etc with IR projections. Some appeared to have a combination of WiFi function which would extend your range from device drastically.
I know this original bit was like 3 years old. And solutions are old hat.
Hi All,
Been having a search around, but haven't found anything like this yet. Has anyone seen or know of an app/util that would allow me to use the Kaiser as a bluetooth keyboard for another device (for example, PS3) ?.
Just was thinking about this last night, could be a useful little toy in certain situations ?
Any ideas/pointers ?
Thanks,
M3t.
Well ...
There's another thread in KAISER ACCESSORIES which links to the $29 bluetooth keyboard being sold on Amazon (down from $149 from iGo which the thread starter spent instead).
Since the Tilt keyboard leaves a lot to be desired, perhaps spending this $29 would be more to your liking.

Not seen anything like that around, as jdmba says, for the amount of work required to produce an app for it, it would really be of no benefit apart from as you say, a 'Party Piece'
Only thing close I have seen is Rudeo's app that turns your phone into a remote for Windows Media Center/Player. Great in a hotel room when your Media Laptop is connected to the TV.
Soz, hope you have luck.
it require the bluetooth stack supporting that bluetooth profile
and ms bluetooth stack is not that fancy i fear
Hi Guys.
I'm planning on using some sort of mapping software on the move, is it possible to connect the Kaisers GPS to a laptop using bluetooth so that i can get GPS reception on the Laptop?
It's possible. I'm not sure if it works via settings -> external gps, or whether you need a 3rd party app (eg. GPSGate). It definitely works though, just can't remember exactly how I got mine working
The internal forum search won't help much with a 3-letter word. Try HERE as an example to a thread I found via the google search (kaiser gps).
It works extremely well using Igo on the PPC, but I'm a TomTom fan so I winded up abandoning the whole idea and instead, just installing TomTom on my tilt.
GPSGate is fine and easy, but payware.
GPS2Blue is free, supposed to do it too, but seems a bit messy and I never managed to get it working.
But DO NOT mess with settings->external GPS as mentioned above. It's been known to sometimes render the GPS inaccessible, only cure being a hard reset.
In any case, it's meant to be used in the other way around, if you want your Tilt to use an external GPS instead of the internal one, not the way you want it.
Hi Guys,
Got WMWiFiRouter and MochaFTP work together (0ver wireless, offcouse) so that now MochaFTP allows me to browse my device and WMWiFiRouter allows me to browse the net. Please note that I am not using MochaFTP to transfer files via internet, that would've eat up my data allowance unnecessarily, although it can be done. In this mode, I browse net and send / receive downloaded media or programs to my Xperia. In sort, I planned and almost there in using X1 as Network Share (NAS), got 16GB card to enhance the capacity. Don't need to connect to different laptops but X1 now acts sort of my cental download hub and whatever laptop I use (I got 3 in total), I always access a single and up to date download for all of them. Sounds good.
What I am trying to achive but couldn't is,
(1) Stream media from X1 over wirelss, so I can put enough audio & video on X1 and listen it over wireless to my laptops, anytime and anywhere (over local wireless). This is just opposite of things like Orb and etcetra, as there are too many solutions which allows you to access media on your PC. This is about accessing (and streaming only, as I can always download from X1 via MochaFTT but wouldn't want to do that. It is same as having files on your PC) media on X1 via wireless. No I am not asking for A2DP over Bluetooth because than, I need to play it on X1 atleast and then use A2DP as wirless bluwtooth headset, but yet a sort of headset. So I want pure streaming of media files from my X1 which I will access on any of my wireless networked PC via http, rtsp or whatever protocol.
(2) Once above it achieved, I would want to stream FM Radio on my X1 over the same above wireless network. X1 can be plugged in and FM will be streamed all over wirelss so I can listen it on any PC on local network. Dont want record it and then stream it via net. In all above scenarios, net is not going to be used at all, as it will need data connection and I dont want to pay bothways. I want to listed to free FM chanells via wireless only.
(3) And ofcourse, if we can run a pure real infrastructure SoftAP server on X1 (or WM 6.1) it will be great as it will allow me to route my HAVA player via X1 over local WLAN and so I will get rid of my mains consuming 3G Router. Save energy as you can by unpluging one more energy eating thing.
(4) Any at last, something like Virtual WiFi for Wm 6.1 platform, allowing X1 to connect to at least two wireless networks simultaneously without any apparent lag while WM 6.1 hogs two or more wirless networks.
I spent a lot of time searching a piece of native WM 6.1 streaming server (there are a lot of FTP ones, but these are copy & paste things in their root concept) but couldn't find any.
Any luck?
Cheers

Again, not anything over A2DP, as BTFM poorly tries to do that, but I need to keep volume for FM radio application up on my X1, else it I will not be able to listen it. If I mute device (X1) volume than BTFM steams but no volume whatever you set on receiver device. If you select wired headset (alothough we need to connect wired headset to receive FM, we can still listen it on device speaker) than BTFM can't stream FM radio over A2DP, instead it streams device microphone over A2DP, so a sort of A2DP Bluetooth Microphone.
And I forgot to mention one more wish,
How about enabling USB Host on X1, I know it can't almost be done or is possible, yet a wish! Or maximizing storage capacity on X1 to say 32GB or 64GB would be awsome. I woill wish to put 1TB Micro SHXC in it and it will rock as NAS.
Cheers
