TeleNav coming on the 24th - G1 Apps and Games

Searched but didnt see a thread for this but here is a link about telenav releasing on 2/24/09 when the paid apps come out unfortunately its 9.99 a month but maybe someone can find a way around that
http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/12/telenav-launches-gps-navigation-for-the-g1/

$10 a month?
I don't think so.

didn't search very hard!

I don't get it. $10/mo? Why a monthly fee? You can buy a GPS on ebay for $75 with no monthly fees.
I wouldn't pay $10/mo for this crap under any circumstances. Either someone will "make it work" without the monthly fee, or they can sell it for a reasonable one time cost.

How can you get the best price for the Tilt?

Hey guys, well with the Tilt coming out I want to get the best price, but I see that the best prices are giving to new customers. I'm already an AT&T customer and have a long time before I can upgrade. I currently have the 8525.
How can I get the Tilt for around $350? I don't know anyone at a store. Has anyone ever bought a phone as a "new" customer and then cancelled the service right away? What fees are payed and how exactly is this done?
Any advice?!
Sorry Man thats just a cheap question to ask... You get what you pay for is the best lesson in life. I dont think any here will help you plan BS
Your best bet is to wait 4-6 months after AT&T releases the tilt and then look to Ebay...

You can cancel the service, but seeing as how you will have a new contract they will charge you the cancel fee. If you cannot wait then you need to purchase the phone at whatever price they give you. Personally, I'm on a family plan and will be using the upgrade credit from another line to get the phone @ $299.

Cmon you don't get what you pay for with phones, -its a big game. Were all paying different prices for the same product.
I got screwed out of 200 bucks on an iphone for my wife because of 48 hrs.
We didn't create the game, the phone companies create the game were just trying to play it. if they just offered it for a price thats one thing, but there are 10 different ways to get this thing at a different price.
easiest way is someone else said, ad a phone an a family plan and reduce the other line to minimum. you ad 10 bucks a month to the bill and get the incentive. Basically your financing the incentive as you will pay 240$ over 2 years with the add on plan.
one thing you can do is to register for a business license and get a sellers permit then you can buy it from manufacturer at cost. just a thought...

I do have a connection at a cingular store and one thing I learned is that they really only need about 6 months into the 2 year to upgrade you. I have never waited for upgrading. You have to be connected though which means go talk to a rep and make a friend and then bring a red bull in the next time as a peace offering
That's not all you need. Good luck getting the manufacturer to give you a good price on one unit.
The best prices are usually for corporate customers, and by corporate I don't mean "business license", I mean "big company that buys MANY phones and service contracts". Basically the best price you can get is a matter of luck and who you know - There are usually no extra tricks available. Either you're eligible for certain deals or you're not.
amazon has it for $50 after rebates with a new service...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WSP16I
You might find brand new tilt at ebay for around $370. (Sim locked though.) It is not easy to find though. I watched a few of them. The cheapest I watched was $365 for a brand new tilt sim locked.
You can easily unlocked yourself.
Sales / Rebates
You could wait for one of AT&T's sales to buy it at $250.00 with a $100.00 rebate. Then call AT&T and if you get a nice representative, ask if they will process the rebate for you; which, if they do, may take the shape of a 'courtesy credit', bringing you down to $150.00. Then, fill out the rebate form, mail it in, and wait. Once you get the rebate, the phone will have been $50.00.
I've been looking for a good deal on a tilt for a while. It doesn't even have to be a still but just a good price. On AT&T site its not that good of a dea plus the fact I have to renew my contract which I'm only 2 months away from being out of.
Listen, all you have to do is go to amazon.com. They will sell you the phone for 200 dollars! All you have to do is either sign up for a two year contract with att or renew your contract. Also you cant break your contract or change your service package for 6 months. I did it and I have a very nice tilt....Filled with a whole bunch of stuff. It would be filled with more if people would response a little faster on this damn forum.
I upgraded from my old razr to a tilt and i got it straight up for $185 with no data plan or anything from the cingular store.

WHOA!! I Just Bought A Tilt For $265.00 Brand Spankin New From A Corp Store!!!!

Thank you corporate America. Sorry yall, I couldnt hold it in, I had to express my joy to the world! Good bye hermes/8525, you've served me well!
so how's that? is that with a rebate, or out the door?
did you get a special discount?
out the door, retail, no contract, no upgrade!!! special discount!
Any way we can get a name or a photo of the reciept or something that we could take to corp store to prove it? I went to a corp store yesterday, and they refused to go below $399 even though I have a premier account.
Almost exact same deal I got. My Premiere discount is 60% on equipment's retail price. I got it for $240 + tax, no contract or extension, just out the door.

some guys at ny.. times square tried to tell me that the att tilt simply wouldn't work without a pda plan therefore i must or i needed to add it to the two year plan/contract. As far as i know they dont advertise it though, but i couldnt even find it through their website..... -

Can someone explain what the big deal is with getting the phone for $250 with no contract? What good does that do? So you can use the phone on a no commitment, either prepaid or pay-as-you go plan? If you go that route you are going to pay considerably more than if you signed up for a 2 year contract, so it doesn't really make sense financially.
I can get the premier discount through my university, but why when newegg has it for $150 with a 2 year contract, free shipping, no tax?? That's exactly what I did.
The only advantage I can see for buying it through premier is if you are trying to upgrade your phone in the middle of your contract. Other than that, newegg still has the best deal. Period. If I am misunderstanding something please explain.

Also, for those who don't want to wait for newegg to get them in stock (cuz they keep running out), amazon has it for $200 (I think) w/ 2 year contract.
How do you get a premier plan?
I spend a **** load on my bill, What is premier? I have a $200 dollar a month plan! But I don't think I'm premier..

Certain businesses, universities, and other organizations have partnerships with AT&T that will give their employees or members "premier" accounts with AT&T.
To see if you are eligible go to:
https://www.wireless.att.com/business/authenticate/
and enter your work/school/govt email.

Find a good deal Tilt/Kaiser

I need to buy myself a GPS unit. I figure with the money Im going to spend on a GPS unit, why not put it towards a Tilt/Kaiser since GPS is already built in. Does anyone know where I can find a great deal on one?
I'm selling a Brand New Unlocked Never been Used for $600 shipped anywhere in US.
Let me know, If interested.
Check around, I snapped one up direct from ATT for $149.99 on a Thanksgiving special. They are normally $399 I think, and the GPS is Great!
Don't forget to factor in some $$$ for GPS software, unless you plan on just using Google Maps/Live search. TomTom 6, Garmin XT and iGuidence are popular.

i got my tilt from letstalk.com for $200 with $25 rebate. I had to do 2 yrs 39.99 WITHOUT data plan as well. I didn't want any data services.
Had I waited, I found a better deal a day later at newegg.com for $50 less. Basically $150 w/$39.99 and up 2 yrs. contract NO DATA plan required! good luck
Contracts are the devil!
guess this is an old thread, but I just picked up a Tilt (with new service) for $99 after discounts and a rebate on amazon.com... there are some requirements for the rebate (6 months) but its a great price if youre like me and just entering the smartphone world... the 30-day trial period also applies...
Its now down to $50 after rebates...

I want a kaiser!!

So I have been on here with my excalibur for some time..... I live in USA and would like an unlocked kaiser but would prefer used at around $200 instead of the $4-500 they are going for on ebay.... anybody have a lead?
Thats like saying you want a decent new car for under $10K... Good luck, but the going price on an unlocked Kaiser / Tilt is around $400.
End of last week, AT&T had $0 refurbished ones with a 2 year contract. From what I understand, you could get one of those, and pay for one month of service (so figuere $30 for a basic plan), then cancel and pay the $175 cancellation fee. So that would then be under $210 for a phone (but make sure you read and understand all of the catches before you commit to that. I've never tried to do that, so don't know if the $175 fee is all you'd have to pay or not).
thanks for the advice.... but I would also have to unlock it. Which I am familiar with excalibur but not this one yet...
Also I am ok with a USED CAR lol..... new isnt always worth paying for!!!
You only need to pay the one month of service plus the cancellation fee, problem is you have to get a data plan when you buy it+ the activation fee, that's 100$ for the first month add to that the cancellation fee that's 275$...
is there anyway around cancellation fee.... or does the trick of a military disconnect work like it does at tmobile? I could get service and then be "shipped" to Iraq. I know with tmo and qwest they have to allow you to cancel with no fees if this happens.....

If you can't afford the ATT Tilt then you probably will not afford the Kaiser (unbranded TyTNII) which runs for $100 dollars more!
I would unlock it any way as I am on UStmo... but I have seen tricks for getting phones cheaply all over.... just not for this one!!
Your best bet is buying the AT&T Tilt. Unlocking is easy, see the wiki. The only thing you'd have to pay for, of course, is to cancel the contract. Or search eBay for used Tilts.

Canada Nexus one US

Hey,
I live in Toronto, Canada, I went on the google website to buy the nexus one, and the price it gives me for the phone including shipping is $556 US dollars.
In the shipping policy section it says your respective province/country might charge you the taxes at the time of delivery. My question is will I get charged taxes at the time I pick up my package? I have ordered stuff online from the states before and I have not been charged tax for those items or any extra fees on top of what I payed at the time of purchase (I ordered 60 dollars worth of clothing before).
As a little experiment I changed my shipping address from Canada to my friends address in the states, and the price is identical. Is the 556 US dollars the FINAL price americans/canadians pay for the phone?
Thanks for all your help.
I paid 529.00 in total, so I think you might be getting pinged with the taxes up front?
It should have it broken down in the final checkout screen! But try here they have a contact number also so you can always give them a call to see, best of luck to you...

haha thats messed up, after experimenting with the states address, I no longer get charged for shipping but instead I get charged US dollar tax, lol and it comes out to be 10 dollars more, $566. I dont know how you got away without paying tax or any shipping. Lucky you
Now I dont know whether to risk getting it shipped to Canada for 556 and end up paying tax on it at the time of pick up. Or to ship it to the states and pay 10 dollars more for tax? Darn taxes.
Thanks for the quick reply eh.

Oh DAMN, I guess I would save that 80 dollars by shipping it to the states right? I am planning on going to my friends place in 2 weeks.
Now one more confusion, when I select a states address for shipping, I get a choice between fedex ground, 2nd day air, and overnight. What doesnt make sense is that picking fedex 2nd day air charges 5 dollars extra, but picking fedex overnight or fedex ground doesnt charge any extra. Shouldnt fedex overnight charge the most for shipping?
Thanks for your help and your quick reply.
Yes, you will have to pay GST, a broker fee, and in your case PST to the courier before they will hand over the package to you. If you're looking for a way to escape the PST you might try and move to Alberta. We don't have any!

Be sure that you do NOT buy the "rogers compatible" one.
Get the one that is tmobile/wind -- it will still work on robbers, just be stuck to 2G, plus in addition, it will be compatible with wind and moblicity/dave.
With robbers data charges (being robbery) it is hard to justify data on their service anyways.
Or just phone up Fido and ask for the $30/month 6GB plan. I actually bargained them down to $20/month for the 6GB.
As for picking it up in the states, you can save money that way as long as you are willing to lie to border patrol and say you didn't buy anything.
I got charged almost 90 dollars by the delivery man for customs charges.....so add that to your total cost.
I live in SW Ontario btw....
Well if he is on Fido he should get the rogers compatible device unless he is planning on making the switch to Wind.
Is the 6GB plan back? was taken away months ago, its why i haven't left rogers, since I know I won't get it back.
And yes grabbing it from your friend is the best option.
Duplicate post. Sorry.
Yeah, the 6GB plan is back. But not advertised. They brought it back to offer people who want to go to Wind. If you are patient enough, or lucky enough to get the right person you can get the deal you want.

Depends on the state. You won't get charged by Google for tax in some states.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
I guess I will go pick it up from the states
