removal of apps - G1 Apps and Games

Hi. I am very new to the world of having root access. im running jfrc33 with muti-touch.
what im woundering is if there is a way to delete apps on the phone that come as default like the amazon mp3. it takes up alot of space and i would really really like to learn how to get rid of things like that. im sure there is some one here that has had this idea and knows how. if you could help tha would be great.
thanks

READ THIS there are some apk's you shouldnt mess with. Amazon, IM, Voicedial, email, and maybe some others are safe to get rid of.

thank you for that

in reality how much space does it take? my phone only sasys 300kb, thats not much

Personally, I'd like to get rid of stock apps when I'm using replacements... like k9 instead of messenging, m9mail instead of Mail, snapphoto instead of camera, etc...

after reboot my apps were gone from the menu, but they are still on the market???

Hello all, i just bought an android G1 from a friend, when it came it was already installed cyanogen mod, then i thought it should of rooted, (by the way i dont know how to root or how to check if its rooted) i am very new on this platform so i have many problems and questions but for now , i tried to change google account which was my frends account to use g1 with all 100 percenti but i couldnt find any proper way to switch my google account, then i finally found hard reset thing and did it, after all i could log on my google on my g1 and i felt a bit shocked with all those missing parts on the android platform as a winmo user before, even my HTC artemis had better skills on internet browsing such flash support over skyfire and easy wifi DNS change and have free web browsing without banned pages.. anyways i was trying to install some games and apps from the market till i got the notification of low memorry ohhh ****, its a nightmare to have hundreds of apps but no place to install, how stupid but then i found a solution on the net to help installin apps directly to your sd card, while i was following this steps on the xda forum pages, i restarted my fone again after having the img file launched with 1.4 version, then i realized all my installed apps icons were lost, then i saw they were gone from my g1 but when i go to app store, they are still on my downloaded programms list, but they are not in storage, thats becase now i cant install them again because they are seen already installed, how can i fix this problem guys , and thanks for the help already.!!!!!!1
Hey, thanks for steppin' up! No matter how snarky I get, or how nice I am, some people just don't get it. It's always great when someone does get it.
If you have a cyanogenmod, then you have root.
How can i get my apps back from the market when they show apps are already installed?
I guess I'd uninstall and reinstall from within the Market App. Open "Market," click on a listing of an app that says it's installed but you can't see in your app drawer (the program for the Home screen and app drawer is call Launcher.apk... apk is the equivalent of exe, more or less). on the bottom of the screen there should be two buttons, Open and Unistall. I'd uninstall and reinstall the ones you want that way.
Yeah, I miss WinMo, too. I still use PhatPad in my old phone and PC. But the capacitive screen really is nicer for fingers, and I'm more addicted to XDA and hacking phones than I am to having a hard-core useful phone (although the native ouTube App beats any I've found for WinMo, and I actually use the native contacts app). I got tired of the bugs, too, since they'd hose the whole OS and force you to decide to reboot. Android just blows past an error and lets it not work, but keeps the OS up. When I'd run out of memory or something in WinMo on an incoming call, the phone would freeze, and then there's a 3 minute reboot. In Android, it just slows down so I get less ring time to answer, but I can call back right away, and it boots in two minutes.
Java makes really nice interfaces and games, too.
I think it'll be about a year or so and Android will be running on par with WinMo (WinPh?) with Flash and alternative browsers apps, and has a few more things to offer that other smartphone OS's can't. It's fun finding them. It's been really exciting watching the progress, and how hard people work for little or no money, just because it's open source.
Oh, and PhatPad was $44. My current Note app, NoteEverything was $2. I miss the stylus and making animations, but that's it. I certainly don't miss Activesync.
yes you are right, but the buttons in the market of that application, are both missing, inactive, you cannot click both of them, thats why i cant uninstall or install or open the app.. i still wonder how to clear the app store cache without factory reset or hard reset which is a really long way to follow.

[Q] probably my last attempt... please help.

hi everyone,
with the G2 coming out next month, I think this is gonna be my last attempt at getting my G1 working acceptably.
for those of you that would like to skip my sob story/history, you can skip to the next paragraph. i've had a G1 since july 2009. even though i do love it and android, the thing has constantly run horribly for me. constant lag, a history of force closes (although lately none of that luckily), lots of freezing, restarts etc. i've gone thru tons of different roms, currently on e-Xtreme 2.1 version 1.3. had lots of experienced people from these boards help me with flashing, setting up, reflashing, flashing again, setting up again, formatting my sd card, trying different setups, unrooting and rerooting. we've tried all different kinds of things to get me running well. i'm also at this point using NO widgets except the google search bar and the power widget included in 2.1. when i go to running services all i have is android keyboard, quick search box, gtalkservice, twidroyd, cm updater (impossible to shut off it seems), and setcpu. still i get constant lag from everything from opening messages, to opening websites, to getting back to the home screen, to pretty much everything. forget about loading the camera, it can take like 15 seconds sometimes! i frequently use cachemate to clear my cache. honestly right now the phone is working pretty much the best it's ever worked, but its still awful. also sometimes when i get back to my homescreen my icons don't show up. it's actually bad enough that sometimes i will just not bother doing something i wanted to do cause i dont feel like dealing with it lagging and/or freezing up. and forget about widgets. haha.
ok so, you may or may not have skipped all of that, but at this point, i want my phone to run better in a last ditch effort to maybe be able to stick with the g1 until my full contract is up in july 2011. if not i'm doing the early upgrade and reupping my 2 year contract and getting the g2 next month... what i'm wondering is maybe theres an app i have installed that's eating up memory in some way and is a known issue. i've searched around but haven't found anything about these, and rather than sit here and delete each one, one by one, waiting to see if the phone runs better, i figured i'd just type out a list and see if anyone knows of any known issues with any of these... so here it goes:
astro
barcode scanner
cachemate
calwidget
color flashlight
craigsnotifica
dolphin browser
droidball
drop
facebook
frontiers demo
googles
google sky map
gscript lite
last.fm
latitude
lyric droid
magic gem II demo
movies
myspace
nesoid
news and weather
newsrob
orbs knockoff
painting findings
pandora
pingdroid
replica island
rom manager
setcpu
springpad
soduku free
tangram master full
throw a panda
that's it. i really don't think that's so excessive. i mean theres only like 5 or 6 games in there and some of those things like setcpu, facebook and cachemate are pratically required for proper phone usage. and i wouldn't even bother having a phone without twidroyd and newsrob.
so has anyone heard of any known issues with lag caused by having one of these installed and/or one of these doing something in the background that slows stuff down?
thanks so much to anyone that helps. i'm willing to give this one more try. maybe even wiping and reflashing one more time, but after the dozen times i have already, i think i might just be expecting too much haha.
thanks
Dave

[Q] Captivate, froyo, and root

Hello chaps,
I apologize if there's a myriad of other threads covering this exact topic, I've been unable to find exactly what I need though.
This is a multi-criteria question.
First, I am sick of waiting for AT&T to get off their arses and get froyo out, so I want the most solid froyo you can give me to put on my phone. But there's a catch... I don't want to have to reinstall my apps and re-do all my contacts, settings, etc. Unless I can do it like an update and not a reinstall, I don't want to. It's just not worth the hassle for me. Finally, it has to be either rooted, or easily root-able. I'm running eclair rooted, and frankly, don't know why I didn't root sooner than I did.
So that's it. Maybe I'm smoking something, if so, let me know. The number 1 thing is that I don't want to have it erase my settings, apps, contacts, etc. that comes before all else.
Thank you very kindly, gentlemen. (and ladies, if applicable)
P.S. It's worth noting that I really only want flash player and for Skype to work. if you can fix both of those in 2.1 then that will work too. But, I would rather have all the extra bells and whistles in froyo.
this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858765
Use titanium backup to back everything up
I recommend this froyo based rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=900568

[Q] Google+ on G1? Also I need a youtube.apk for G1

Hello. Well seems Google+ doesnt install to a G1... so anyone have a apk that would work for me to install it? Also my youtube for awhile has been messed up, I need to reinstall it, but dont have a apk or updated youtube apk for it if someone can point me in the right direction? Thanks. =)
(Over 2 years with my G1 and I have not had a desire to replace it yet, even tho I have higher end phones)
It doesn't? Please describe your problem in more detail, because I'm using it just fine, on the latest iteration of COS-DS.
Perhaps you need a more recent Android; if this is the case, having the apk would not help you much...
Same for me here, running G+ and YouTube, both installed from the market. Seems to me that these apps need a higher API-Level, i.e. Donut isn't supported.
Well I am still running my G1 on Enoms 1.6 build. Always worked best. So didnt change it. Granted Youtube.. Not sure WHAT happened. It just doesnt want to update the homescreen of it, getting like a parsing error on it. Thats why I am looking for that apk
As for G+ the market doesnt let me install it.
Love my G1 too much to replace it. G2 was a contender but that temp root thing turned me off.
Enom's roms were great, I liked them very much and I was using them until mid of last year. Unfortunately he stopped development and if you want to be up to date, you need to switch, and since Terry provided us with ezGingerbread, I switched to that. Performance / speed is comparable to Enom's roms and I am on the lastest Android version
Thats a great review. I may have to do that... Trick is, I worry.. I have over 100 apps installed heh. While I can download them to my PC. Just not sure what else would wipe. Or do you need to wipe for that upgrade?
Unfortunately yes, ... no chance to keep apps / data. Ok, TitaniumBackup may be an option, contacts and calander come from google, but it's still a bit of work to do.
In addition to that you would probably like to upgrade to the 1.33.0013d/2.22.28.25 combo to gain 14MB of available RAM(!), which will cause additional work and risks(?) ...
I'd have to say that as a user with over 150+ apps and no desire to trim the fat I'm very shortly back off to E-Xtreme and danger spl with 26I radio as nothing ever came close to being as good on my phone for me above 1.6 (Hell I'm even thinking of dropping back to Super D 1.9.3 with DarkStars theme if I can find it, that black google search box with the ghoshed white outer glow always was the sexiest thing ever lol) because if your a user from my experience with a load of apps and have a lot of home screens with shortcuts and widgets then Froyo and especially gingerbread just ain't for you plain and simple. I kill them all in minutes and I'm not exactly a beginner at this stuff, by no means an expert either but I know enough to know that me and gingerbread will never work and well for some of us thats just how it is.
Heh yea, same here. I love my G1 even tho its about 3 years old. 1.6 is fine for my everyday use. My HD2 tho.. just found the <3 Android I was looking for.

But then back to the main issue at hand. I need the Youtube apk for the G1 =/ Would be nice to least be able to use that again heh.
see maybe i will met
No one knows how to redo Youtube or fix it? =/
Here's a link to the Youtube.apk file. It's version 2.1.6.

[Q] Removing Un Needed Apps/Services on NC running CM7

I did search and most of the threads refer to actual Phones.
I have a Nook Color that I am currently using the SD Boot method to run CM7. I want to cut out all the stuff that really has nothing to do with basic reading and Internet activity if possible. Like the dialer, and voice, text to speech, basically anything that relates to text messaging and phone calls.
Is there a smooth way to do this that won't result in a bricked SD OS?
I thought of using Titanium Backup to just "Freeze" anything I didn't want but I don't know if that will even work.
Is there a list anywhere on here of what can commonly/easily be removed and still maintain a "tablet-like" functionality?
thanks in advance for any suggestions or links!
All evidence indicates that removing these services (usually be deleting the .apk files) has no impact on performance or battery life, and may introduce compatibility issues with apps that expect to find them.
Don't worry about it. The apps being there don't hurt anything.
Sent from my LG Optimus V using Tapatalk
See the CM wiki
I removed Bluetooth stuff, cmstat, telephony.apk, phone.apk, setupwizard, setup, and a whole host of other services I don't use. Why do I need blue tooth when I am not going to use it. Others will say there is no harm and battery life is not impacted...probaly true. However there is one one benefit that cannot be ignored...it gives back memory to the nook that was not being used.
EDIT My roommate and I discussed after I posted and he said just leave it alone. No harm done. I said true, but he removed bloatware from his phone...and other apps he did not use or need. Then I replied, why can't I do the same thing. If i am not going to use it, or its not needed, makes sense to me just remove them. BTW, I used root explorer to remove the apks. Its been a while since I did it and never really had any problems.
