I wanted to make some new clock faces for HTC Home. These work with the HTC Home Customizer ( http://www.pocketemu.com/hhc-info.html ) but I imagine you could install them without that by hand, i dont know why you'd want to though.
There's quite a few hours of work here to get these just right. Comments will be appreciated.
There are 10 in this first pack. I plan on making a few more packs.
Most of these are black fonts with beveling to make them look nice.
EDIT: Removed max compression on zip for those that dont have bz2. zip now has normal compression
EDIT2: rar version here: http://rapidshare.com/files/70732473/Kireols_HHC_Clocks_pack_1.rar.html
screens 6-10
I'm having trouble opening the zip file (Vista).... is it just me?
i had compression turned on max by default on my zip. that might affect you. zip fixed in top post
I'm using XP. Something is jacked up with your zip file. I get this error with all files when using WinRAR to try to unzip it.
! C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.RETESTRAK\My Documents\KireolsClocks.zip: Unknown method in screenshot6.gif
EDIT: It's working ok now.
Thanks for the efforts
If you need a Star Trek font or a Flintstone font, I can look to see what I still have.
I like LCD-type fonts and solid fonts with drop shadows. Are these paks hard to make? I'd like to try my hand at them.
Have you tried to do weather images? What does it take to make those?

They arent hard but are time consuming! for each font you have to find a good font, load up an image program and edit each individual number and symbol and make sure they are positioned correctly, the load to phone and test. I'd say each font is roughly 30 minutes to 1 hour for me. I havent tried anything but clocks yet. However I may in the future as everything is just an image file.
These are very nice, I like the claw and the German black the best, the only trouble is I cant use them because I have my tilt completely blacked out. But if you ever decided to change them to say...........red, then we would be in business. Thanks they look great!
good job they look nice i'll be adding one of them shortly.
Nice work! Not exactly my cup of tea, but I applaud you!
is it just me, or is there no zero in the claw group? the zero image looks the same as the one. sorry if someone has already mentioned this.
edit: also seems that the eight looks like a zero

I noticed the same thing here. I'm actually quite surprised that this has been out so long and only had one comment about the missing / malformed characters in this font. The claw happens to be my favorite of this group, but I can't use it if it doesn't display the right characters. I went sifting through the files to see if something was just mixed around and was disheartened to see that there was nothing I could fix from this end. Kireol: please distribute a new version of the claw font with all characters.
There was also a mention of different colors - yeah, count me in for that one too.
i got a couple of issues:
- when someone calls, the phone seems to stutter and cutoff the first ring a bit. doesnt inspire confidence at all. the ringtone is the same file i used to have on my wizard and worked perfectly for years, so its not the file.
- the menu font size if ridiculously huge! i managed to make it smaller by changing the following registry keys:
HKLM\System\GDI\SYSFNT\Ht (from 1000 changed to 700)
HKLM\System\GWE\Menu\Barfnt\Ht (from 1000 changed to 700)
HKLM\System\GWE\Menu\Popfnt\Ht (from 1000 changed to 700)
and that brings the font size down, however the font glyphs like arrows/checkmarks/circles remain the same huge size. i attached a picture to explain.
how do i change the size of those glyphs?
HKLM\System\GDI\Ht (from 1000 changed to 700)
I can not find this value!!!!! I found the other 2, but not thus one.

sorry about that, i corrected the original post as well.
come on, i can not be the only one whos bothered that an $800 device can not do its most basic job of RINGING PROBABLY!
no one else has that problem with first ring stuttering? the phone seriously seems to have trouble loading the phone app quickly enough when a call comes in, sometimes it even says "unknown caller" first before recognizing the number and showing the contact name.
Yeah, bit sluggish, thanx WM ?
I don't mind very much, I am not looking at phone waiting for it to ring My ringtone works fine btw?
Try this tweak for ring delay
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Sc ript - Change apw3r to apr
Descripion:
a = allow
p = play sound
w3 = wait/delay 3 seconds
r = repeat
f = backlight aan (f1)
v = trillfunctie aan (v0,v1,v2)

Fair enough, didn't see posts saying it doesn't work (or I just didn't read those posts properly), and I hadn't properly tested it either.
I have the same problem with the ringtone. I use my own .wav file. I hope someone comes up with an answer, it is a pain ;(

Yes i have the same problems as you, more specifically:
1. Sometimes it rings just once and goes into "missed call" before I can pick up, and the caller tells me it rang many times and I didn't answer!
2. Unknown caller before the name is identified
3. HUGE fonts of the email header (From, Subject, etc).... I mean they take up half the freakin' screen. WTF?

If you are having problems that the first ring sounds a bit cut off, try converting the ringtone to MP3. I had the same problem with my ringtone (which was WAV). Then I converted it to MP3. The file now has become alot smaller in size (thus faster to load I think) and now my first ring sounds "whole" so to speak. Try it if you use WAV.
Please note that this problem does NOT solve the ringtone delay (it solves the 1st ring cut-off prob for me at least). The ring delay problem still exists after ringtone convertion to MP3 and as far as I know there hasn't been a solution for that yet.
ok, i have managed to get rid of the ringtune stuttering by converting it from .wav(150kb) to .mp3(30kb)
strange thing is i used the same exact .wav ringtune for a couple of years on my old Wizard and there was zero delay. which doesnt make any sense.
however, it still shows "unknown caller" sometimes before recognizing the contact name.
i am starting to think that the HTC phone skin is the culprit here, its simply making everything slow. i tried disabling it with Advanced Configuration but that renders the whole phone app unusable.

I'm glad the file conversion worked for you too. That's right, it's not the wav file that is corrupt, I also used mine for years on my old PPC. It's that the Diamond somehow does have difficulties starting up certain "tasks" when someone calls. It could very well be the TFL3D interface... Even with all the performance tweaks, the problems exist...
Maybe you can try to use the phone option of WM instead of TFL3d? I dunno if this works (haven't tested it myself) but maybe if you remove the tick of the TFL3D in the Start -> Settings -> Today (Items tab) and then soft reset, maybe the TFL3D interface won't start. This way you can try if you have the same delay problem with the phone interface of Windows Mobile... This way we know for sure the HTC TFL3D interface causes the problem here.

Hello,
First i want to thank everybody for sharing their knowledge on this forum, i bought my D2 recently and iv'e almost configured just the way i like it. I just have a small annoyance in the Calender function:
When i add a new appointment it fills in some standard values, like time begin-end 12:00h - 13:00h and 15 minutes reminder & status: busy.
Is there anyway to change these standard values? i've tried finding corresponding register values but i can't find them. Does anyone know where i can find them. Or is it in a file?
I've considered some other calendar programs, but i really like how the standard calender looks, its slick.
I also tried the app called gekonewcall
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=434760
Which is a nice program but it needs some final additions to fully replace the standard "new appointment"
Does anyone know how the change this??
I hope i'm not the only one who's so whiny about this
Thx in advance
-Drosh7
Does GekoNewCal work on D2? It says "require VGA res", is it still compatible with the WVGA???
Ok, I tried it, it does indeed work... With a white square in the bottom of the screen area due to the screen size difference
Neat app.. But the dev seems to be dead..

Yes indeed, if he had made the changes he said he would in his upcoming release the app would be totally awesome. Now it feels a little unfinished
Still hope someone knows a way to change the values in the standard calendar tool. Would really love it to be able to quickly add appointments.
Hello everybody,
this is my first post in this forum and my english is very bad, because i am an bavarian noob I take my german text to the google-translator an this is the result:
I have tried to change my startup screens what has failed miserably. I have the original files with the trail version of Ulead Gif Animator processed and pushed to the Hero. The results you can see here. I have the orig. and modifed attached files. Can anyone of you tell what went wrong?
Thx,
the bavarian opallabtb
I noticed whilst browsing the Hero file system (in root somewhere) that there are a number of config files for boot and on my Orange Hero, an Orange startup animation.
No idea how you do it (rooted & text editor maybe), but you will probably have to edit these
thank you joemax for your quick answer.
There is only one xml file in the folder /system/media. It calls boot_animation.xml
I didnt touch this file. The names of the modifed files are the same as the original ones. Is it possible that the Ulead gif animator change anything in the gif file (transparent background, etc)?
greets
Sorry, I have no idea then. My depth of knowledge at this point is very poor
Can the Hero actually play the gig animation you copied across ?
I use ASTRO to browse my Hero, it plays and views images, video and gif files. Try to see if its actually playable 1st.
Sorry but thats all I can think could be causing it.
I bet you crapped yourself when you first saw that messed up boot screen
I've had a look at the gif files you're using and they differ from the originals. The ones you made, each frame has different background properties. If you look at each frame in the original, they're all 320*480 with a background colour index of 199; they all have a black (transparent) background of 320*480.
But the modified gifs have frames which don't have the same sized and colour index backgrounds, and this is the only thing I can see that would cause the problem. When you view them in windows picture viewer, they show up fine; I think it's something to do with the transparency and the fact that the first frame IS the right size and colour but the rest are not.
In fact now that I look at your video again I'm certain this is the case. I know how to fix this, what program did you use to modify the frames?
Edit: Okay maybe I should read posts better, you used Ulead Gif Animator. If you can send me the individual images of each frame I could put this together for you in a way I'm sure will work

What I would like to see for a bootscreen on the Hero is an animation of a Stargate locking in the seventh chevron then the splash coming out to encompass the entire screen. As it recedes back to the gate it leaves the word "ANDROID" in the event horizon overlaying the puddle effect then have four little green android characters with P-90s run through the gate before the animation ends.
Any takers on creating this? I don't know enough about creating video and effects to even get started on something like this.
Dude u read my mind...that would be awesome.. massive stargate fan here..lol
Intresting..... i will follow this thread
I'd be willing to toss out $20 (maybe more if it's a really high quality job) if there are any experienced graphics designers out there who could make this happen.
if anyone knows how to do it it is tristan202...
Does this help????
Woops,... 2 mins,... Cant use .rar,.... try again,....
OK,... here goes again.
I was previously advised (by Tristan202 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645244) that the Hero 1st plays one gif just once, then loops another... So.. Each ZIP file contains 2 gifs,... one of the "puddle" in action,... one of just the outro,...
All are 320x180 resolution,...
Latency setting on BEST was set to 50ms...
Latency setting on MED was set to 75ms...
Latency setting on LOW was set to 100ms...
Now need to find an simple method to apply them. I'll leave it to you guys to do the research for me aswel. Get cracking and let me know,....
Peace
Shizzle,..... I've just re-read the 1st post,.... And realised what I've supplied isn't quite what you wanted!!!!!

[KITCHEN][MARCH 25 '10] HTC Android Basic Kitchen, v0.25 - for Beginners! [PC / MAC]
I haven't given it a try myself yet though.
I had a go at this and I'll show you how far I got (see attached update.zip for flashing through recovery rom).
I'm new to making bootscreens, but I studied a few I downloaded and learned how to sign an update zip. (Can't seem to generate my own pem/pk8 key files, when trying to apply the zip signed with my key it keeps saying that the files are unsigned, but the testkey files included with the signapk zip I grabbed work fine to sign). Also I didn't use zipalign, haven't worked out how yet, or is that only done on APK files?
Anyway, I noticed when I used GIF files that use pixel cropping (leaving out unchanged pixels in subsequent frames) the image gets all distorted, like a TV broadcast signal problem. So the resulting GIF files are larger than the originals, as each frame is a full frame.
However there is still a problem with some frames in the first GIF, still some distortions, although nowhere near as bad as on my first try with cropped frames... Also I don't really like the way the 2nd GIF loops as you can clearly see when it jumps from last frame, to first frame...

I am planning on trying to teach myself and make some more tonight using Photoshop instead of the automated software I used last time,.... But what Id like to know is,... As it is,... Does it play landscape, stretched across the whole screen?.... If it does then the issue is just the resolution (as I sized it to play in in the middle of the screen in portrait mode) and in theory should be easy enough to resolve (once I know how to use Photoshop that is).... Let me know please.
Thanks.
No, it shows portrait, vertically centered (so 150px high black bars above and below the animation). You wouldn't hold your phone sideways while booting, so it seemed awkward to rotate the files 90degrees.
Basically the only problem is the "glitching" in the first GIF. I'll have another go at that one later. I think it's to do with palette compression.
Also, I used your 'BEST' zip, so I'll see about quality/size difference with the other ones.

When you say "glitching",... do you mean it doesn't play smooth yeah,... a bit jerky?
If that is what you mean then yeah, the other ones might play smoother. This might be because there are so many frames in the BEST one. The lower quality ones have less frames so can be processed faster.
Even if I just open them on my lappy in internet explorer, the best quality one doesn't play as nice as the lower one.
So the update.zip that you create,... Does that just put the files in the right place and tell the phone what files to open up when booting? Or do you have to add the black bars, tell it to play landscape or portrait, make it play only once/not loop etc,....
That's something I'd like to be able to do too.

No, I mean it glitches like a bad tv signal. I don't really know how to describe it. You can however safely flash the update.zip I posted to see what I mean. You can always flash back a stock bootscreen (with or without sound); I've attached them to this post (grabbed these off of xda myself a while ago).

Just unzip my zip file and peruse the files. That will tell you a great deal. You can delete the following three files, as they are created by the signing process:
META-INF\CERT.RSA
META-INF\CERT.SF
META-INF\MANIFEST.MF
This file contains the command to copy the files to the SYSTEM: volume on your device:
META-INF\com\google\android\update-script
And this file tells Android how and which files to display:
system\media\bootscreen\boot_animation.xml
There's 3 bootconfigs in that file, but the top and bottom one are commented out (could've deleted them, but oh well). So the middle bootconfig is the one to play around with. The ScreenX and ScreenY values are offsets from top left corner of screen in portrait mode. And useAudio tells android to play or not play the mp3 file (none included in my zip).
EDIT: The black "bars" are there, because as specified in the xml, it uses a GIF file that's 320x480, fully black, and the other 2 gifs are smaller, displayed on top of that black background.
If you wanted to have this animation play in landscape mode, you just need to physically rotate the GIF files 90 degrees right (or left) and resize the animation to make it fit the screen. If you make it 480px wide, then it would be 270px high, so that'd leave 320-270=50px of blackness. Vertically centering the animation would mean a ScreenX value of 25 and a ScreenY value of 0. Or leave both at zero to have the animation stay at the top of the screen in landscape mode. That way you have one black bar, at the bottom, 50px high. Make sense I hope?
One more thing: the update-script and xml file need to be saved in UNIX ASCII format. Use a text editor like UltraEdit (shareware) or Notepad++ (opensource freeware) if you're on Windows.
