I got the Sprint HTC Touch Pro and I know this is probably a stupid question and all but i cant recall that if you plug the device in to charge while device is on standby is the screen supposed to come on or stay off and you have to click the power button...I think the other day when I plugged it in in standby device turned on please help?
It all depends on how you've configured your power options.
Go to Settings/System/Power & go to the advanced tab to configure the "On External Power" where you can either disable the screen going off and/or the whole device turning off. If you decide to allow the screen to stay on then you can set a time value.
Hope that helps.

Has anyone noticed on either the Tilt or Kaiser that sometimes the device will not enter sleep mode?
It seems like when my Tilt running the stock AT&T Rom is on AC power, it will not enter sleep mode even though I have it set to sleep after 5 minutes on AC power. This is not while connected via USB to a PC running ActiveSync as that WILL keep the device alive, I'm talking about connected to the power brick.
After 5 minutes the screen will dim but not sleep. Running on battery power the timeout will usually happen. If it doesn't sleep the display just dims like it did above.
Settings for power are set to shut off after 5 minutes.
Any ideas?
Todd
I've noticed that mine does the same thing, just doesn't turn off when plugged into AC. I'm not aware of any "fix" for it persay, I just dismissed it as a minor bug of the OS. I would be curious if if anyone does have a solution to this, but it's not that big a deal IMO.
I noticed it also, but don't care. However, if it happens while on battery, try changing the time to something else and then back. My battery was draining QUICK and finally I realized that it wasn't turning off. Doing the above fixed it.
Thanks for the replies. Not that I feel better about it but at least others have the same issue. It's not a big deal if plugged, just wondering why.

I just got into the habit of manually hitting the power button and putting it to sleep before holstering it and right after pluging it in.
Same here, it would go to sleep on DC power but would stay awake on AC power.
Dont worry.
I'm sure it goes into sleep when you press the power button.
Ahhh, is that what that button is for?!
Perhaps is supposed to be this way, but I have noticed that my backlight won't turn off when plugged in - even though set to turn off after 2 minutes when plugged in. Instead of turning off, it seems to revert to a dim mode - but the light still remains on. I have to manually turn it off. Any thoughts?
That's what it does. Unless the phone is off, the display can't be turned completely off. This is because the screen is not transreflective.
I understand that, but the trouble is that the backlight remains on. Surely that's not supposed to happen, right?
no, thats not normal behaviour.
do you have anything running in the background? its sometimes a good idea to go into the settings and untick the boxes, soft reset the device, then put the settings back the way you want them. This has worked for me in the past.
Are you talking when the device is plugged into the USB port w/ ActiveSync running? If so that is how it works - device will stay on.
If you are talking about plugged into AC then it should power off after x amount of minutes.
To be clear, if the phone is ON, the backlight will always be ON. This is different from the previous Hermes/8525 that had a transreflective screen which could be seen in bright light with the backlight off.
The Kaiser/Tilt's don't have transreflective displays so they changed the backlight control to dim instead of OFF. When the display brightness slider is put to minimum or the display timer expires the display just dims.
Pressing the power button and going to standby is the only way to turn off the display that I'm aware of.
Now, Auto Power off after a timer expire is different. If you set the power settings to turn off after 2 minutes while on A/C, the Kaiser will turn off, IF it's not connected to Active Sync, and IF there isn't some other application keeping the phone alive (Apps like iNav keep the phone alive).
I know that this question has been asked before, but I cannot find a simple solution. Is there not a power manager that enables us to set the phone to stay awake whilst its connected via USB. I currently use green power premium, which is an excellent power manager but again has no such feature, as far as I can see.
To me the problem is that I use my phone Explorer all day long and every time I go to sync the phone is turned off and as such my phone Explorer can't find it.
This is the first phone that I have had that does not appear to have the ability to stay awake whilst connected to a power supply.
Here is the story.
About 1 month ago, my optimus 2x started to show signs of a need to push power button harder in order to unlock it's screen.
About 7 days ago, it was almost impossible to unlock it and I needed to push really strongly to make unlocking possible.
Yesterday, the button stopped responding and phone turned off. It never powers up again with holding the power button.
Also when I plug it into my PC vis usb, it turns on but after that turns off again.
Also charging it do not turn on the screen as it used to be, now it is dim and dead.
Power button is clearly broken but why charging it does not keep it alive? I cannot do anything with my phone now.
Any suggestions? It is clearly not software fault.
Well you really need to replace your power button.
Try take your battery out and insert it again maybe your phone did go to some kind of deep sleep. it is some kind of bug so if you have a rom with kowalski manager then you need to activate 2core auto hotplug
if you plug it again in the charger and the screen still doesn't work then your screen or usb port isn't working good. or it is just your cable it could be everything. hope this could help you a bit
I’m repurposing an old phone to be dedicated to my car infotainment system using Android Auto. It will always be connected to a USB port that powers off when the car is off and powers on when the car is started.
I’m looking for an app that basically turns off everything it can when there is no power to the USB port to make the battery last as long as possible (basically, one step short of powered off). But when there is power at the USB port I want the phone to wake and have as much performance as necessary without having to touch the phone. I won’t be interacting with the phone so I don’t need the phone display on when there is power to the USB port but I’ll need full performance.
Does anyone know of an app like this? My phone is rooted.
Hi. Turning off the phone when such a condition is met is done with the tasker program.
Now turn on when the cell phone is off and it detects current in the usb port with an app it cannot be done.
I did it by modifying the cell phone boot. Therefore when there is power in the usb port it turns on itself.
You have to find that for your cell phone model.
When I can I put you as I can with my Samsung J7
Cheers
Hi. You can turn off with "macrodroid" application and turn changing the ini.rc file.
Add the following command in ON CHARGER;
setprop sys.powerctl reboot,leaving-off-mode-charging
If you want, basically, one step short of powered off you can try and use one of the automation apps like Tasker. They can detect when a power supply is attached. Then you have to write/code the actions that take place (and reverse them when the power is restored). You may require root to do this as effectively as possible. I would try
turning off ALL radios
put the phone into it's harshest battery saving mode (which should do most of the work for you)
reduce clock frequency
stop any apps (except the automation one) running in background
maybe force stopping any apps you consider may miss-behave
With an ok battery, it should not be too difficult to get it to a discharge rate of 0.1 - 0.2% per hour if that's a target that would work for you.
Of course turning the phone off/on automatically is the ultiate solution, but then you will be at the mercy of the boot time every time you get in your car.
You might also consider powering it permanently. I suspect the power consumption with the screen and radios off off may be similar or probably less than, say, a dashcam on standby.
Yea, as mentioned, turning off the phone is easy. Turning it back on is the challenge.
My phone goes into a download mode that doesn't accept fastboot commands. Getting around that is beyond my skillset.
I've downloaded Automate and there is already a power saving tool created. I briefly tried it but it didn't seem aggressive enough.
Currently I'm trying an app called Comatose, if can be found in the Play Store. It seems to be working pretty good.
I was just wondering if there is an app created specifically for use on phones that remain permanently connected to a switched USB port.
Comatose looks similar to Naptime - just putting the phone into doze early. I think there are more gains to be made if you can switch off the radios and engage what ever ROM-specific power saving features you phone happens to have.

Yea, I realized I had manually turned off WiFi and Bluetooth to test the life. I still need to do that.
I used the "adb shell settings put global wifi_sleep_policy 1" so (supposedly) the WiFi is only on during sleep if there is power connected.
I'll try an Automate tool to turn off the Bluetooth during sleep.
Don't forget the GSM radio too (data and voice). That can be a real power hog in poor signal areas. And do it even if you have no SIM installed, as the phone still maintains a connection in order to allow emergency calls. Maybe see if you can simply force airplane mode?

I keep the phone in airplane mode since I don't have have a data plan for the old phone. I plan on using my regular phone as hotspot.
There isn't any advantage of turning off airplane mode if I don't have a data plan, is there?

I don't think so. It would just consume more power. You would be able to make emergency calls I think. But you have another phone for that.
