Here is the story.
About 1 month ago, my optimus 2x started to show signs of a need to push power button harder in order to unlock it's screen.
About 7 days ago, it was almost impossible to unlock it and I needed to push really strongly to make unlocking possible.
Yesterday, the button stopped responding and phone turned off. It never powers up again with holding the power button.
Also when I plug it into my PC vis usb, it turns on but after that turns off again.
Also charging it do not turn on the screen as it used to be, now it is dim and dead.
Power button is clearly broken but why charging it does not keep it alive? I cannot do anything with my phone now.
Any suggestions? It is clearly not software fault.
Well you really need to replace your power button.
Try take your battery out and insert it again maybe your phone did go to some kind of deep sleep. it is some kind of bug so if you have a rom with kowalski manager then you need to activate 2core auto hotplug
if you plug it again in the charger and the screen still doesn't work then your screen or usb port isn't working good. or it is just your cable it could be everything. hope this could help you a bit

Nightmare.
Got my Diamond today, and charged it up.
It ran out 5 minutes ago, so I plugged it into the mains charger.
It vibrates, shows HTC and then gets stuck in a constant reboot. It's like it gets a little charge, uses it, then restarts the process.
I guess the battery is so dead that even the mains charger cant give it enough boost to start charging.
Help Please
If you only got it today then id be sending it back as it seems to be a faulty unit. Perhaps someone can give you a fix but if it was me, id be demanding a new working unit...you just never know what other faults the phone might have.
Good job I didn't Hard-SPL it straight away.
Damn, Always happens to me.
Are you trying to charge it with the wallcharger or by usb to a computer.
Beacuse if you are doing it by the computer there is an option on the phone that disables charging when conected to the computer.
Good luck dude.
Definately wall charger.
I think it's f(***d
I'll go back to my Kaiser and wait for the Raphael I think.
i would first try to charge the battery device turned off!
i noticed that the led in center button does not blink in the beginning but it should charge!
after a while try a hard reset!
Tried the following:
I cant switch off the device as soon as power is applied via USB it switches on. Tried holding the power button down but nothing.
Tried entering bootloader but same reset loop.
Tried hard reset, gets to grey screen with blue text but then reset loop again.
I tried leaving the battery out for half an hour and trying again but soon as usb is in it powers up and reset loop.
I put a multimeter on the battery and it is dishing out 3.7v as expected.
I think the device is knacked, even though I was using it for most of the day.

Usually a hard reset solves everything (hopefully)

Nope
leave it charging for at least 10 minutes before turning it on.

don't even touch the power button!
the device should not start if you touch nothing and just plug the powercable!?
i don not think that you press the powerbutton accidentally while plugging the cable, i hope i'm right?
Without touching the power button, I plug in the charger and the phone vibrates and starts.
From dead:
1. Plug in charger
2. I get 2 swirls of white on the round button thing
3. Phone vibrates
4. Smart mobility logo shows
5. Phone reboots
GOTO 1:
i miss the touch diamond screening with rom version etc.
normally it shows up before the htc smart mobility screen.
i don't think the battery is the badguy. seems more a fault in ipl or spl?
You're right.
I was wrong when I said smart mobility.
It comes up with TOUCHDiamond across the centre of the screen and right where the little red numbers USUALLY appear in the bottom right, it reboots before that.
To perform a hard reset
1. Pull out the stylus.
2. With the device turned on, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the RESET button with the stylus tip.
3. Release the RESET button, but continue pressing the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons until you see message on the screen
4. Release the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset
save this info on your computer
Sorted!
I left the battery out overnight, and when I came to work this morning, I plugged it into the charger and it didn't automatically start up so it got a good 3/4 hour charge which then enabled me to fire it up for a full charge.
congrats! i hope for you that this problem doesn't come back!
Sounds to me like it also could have been the power button was jammed pushed in. Maybe leaving it for a while without pushing the button did the trick, allowing it to release itself.
In case that was the problem, keep an eye on the power button in case it seems to be a bit dodgy. If it is going to do it again, then you want to swap it immediately for a replacement brand new unit. After a while, if you try to swap it out, they will give you a refurbished unit, not a brand new one!
Of course it could have just been a software bug, that was cleared by letting it fully power down (as others have said).
Just make your decision quick before you end up with a refurbished model for replacement.
Just to let you all know.
Over the weekend I fully charged my Diamond, and without even making a phone call or using WiFi, Bluetooth or anything the battery lasted 1.5 hours.
It's gone back to clove now for a replacement.
I've seen a few people having this issue so I advise getting it back for replacement asap.
My diamond got very hot during normal use (without charger). Is that normal? Not the battery but the actual device.
I recently installed CM7 nightly 12 and it's stuck at this screen. I'm using the stock charger. I've tried plugging it into my computer too.. no luck. Is there anything else to try? Am I screwed?
this sounds like something that was happening to me yesterday. i finally got it to charge by making sure it was completely off. i finally realized that even though the screen was dark it wasn't off, so it never charged (i think it was just recycling the charge enough to keep it on). if you look at it in a dark enough light you can see the screen is still on (backlit).
so plug it in, i would suggest using the wall charger. this usually makes it turn on (at least mine did), once it does, hold the power button until its off, no backlight is on. hope this makes sense and helps out a little
There's many others having this problem (me, on my friends nook, one of them). Hold down the Power button for a long period of time (I heard it's 10 seconds, but someone said they had to hold it for 30) and it will do a hard reset. At that point, try to turn it on again normally. If it doesn't turn on normally, plug it in (using the uSB cable that came with it (that is very important) and into the wall with the provided adapter), wait 30 minutes, and try again. It seems that very few (I don't know if i've actually read of any) who had this problem actually had to return the nook. When it happened to me with my bro-in-laws, he just hed the power button cause he was mad and it turned on, it hasn't happened to him since
Finally started working. I tried holding the power down for awhile with no luck.. Left it charging overnight and tried holding power again and it worked!
I have a brand new Nexus One bought on last year April. For some reason it wasn't to be used. Yesterday, I got it out of the package and charged it for ready to be powered on. Unfortunately, it reacted nothing as I pressed the power button! I took out the battery and put it into other Nexus One, it showed the battery was 100% charged.
I took back the battery and repacked it to this new Nexus One. I tried to press the power button more and more with data cable connected pc. Nothing happened. Just one time, the sceen lighted on and the "X" in four colors appeared! I didn't know why it was powered on. Maybe I pressed the trackball or volume up/down buttons, God know it.
The X sceen lasted almost for ten minutes and then sceen was off! Yes. It shutdown! I can't power it on anymore!
It seemed the hardware was OK. It may be the locked by the outdate android system. The android prestored in this phone is version 2.1.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks.
Can u you go in fastboot? Press power button+trackball..if so then you can recover your phone by unlocking bootloader and falshing custom recovery.
Sadly, It can't be power on and go in fastboot by pressing trackball+power button.
Any more advice?
Check the battery terminals just to make sure they're not dirty.. Sadly, you MUST be able to at least be able to boot something (hboot/fastboot) in order to troubleshoot anything software related. Sounds like you've got a hardware issue that could be one of (literally) a million things.
Sell it on EBay for parts. You can probably get $50-$60
you could try pressing pwr/vol-/trackball all at same time, hold down for around 30 seconds to make sure
commonly known as 3 finger salute
try power on without sdcard by manual methods and plugging in and plugging in with no battery
I have seen a video on YouTube on how to fix the power button which is known for messing up and how to turn it on. Search YouTube
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
is it that the power button is not working? that would be weird for a new phone though.
have you tried to turn it on using the "jump start" method?
connect the cable. led the charging led come on. remove the battery, wait for the led to go off (while cable is still connected) then pop the battery back in.
see if you can get it to start that way
When you plug charger cable in your Nexus, does the orange or green LED go on?
If one of them does and stays (green for full battery, orange otherwise) - then your problem is most likely the power button. It may not be the only problem, but at least the one that's stopping you from turning on your phone. You can try "jumpstarting" it by inserting battery while charger is connected.
If you don't see LEDs when plugged in - your phone is done.
If you see blinking LEDs - battery terminals might need cleaning/fixing, it usually happens when the battery is out of the phone.
hi all.
I have a nexus one which run cyanogenmod 7 in 1 year. Until last month. Suddenly i couldn`t turn it on. I though the battery was very low, so i charged for hours without any help.
I have disassembled the phone and checked the power button, but it was ok.
I found also out that the phone can be turned on even the power button is broken, but it didnt helped at all.
If i plug the charger in to the phone, the charger led lights on ( orange), but nothing on the screen appears, no response at all.
Now the battery is full i guess since the led is green.Sometimes the led blinks when i take the battery in and out. (Blink orange-green-orange...)
Is that something that can be functionale again ? it was my first smartphone and would like to see alive again
I found out the power button flex print was almost cut-all-the of the pcb.
I was managed the solder one of them together, and woo hoooo it turned on
But the digitizer doesnt work now it starts correctly op , but screen doesnt give response back
Hello. This morning I've turned off the alarm, turned on WIFI and went back to sleep. I can't tell for sure, but I think the battery was low. During the next 2 hours I checked the time several times. I don't remember accepting any OTA. Eventually I got up, tried to check the time and the phone was off. I tried to turn it on, no effect. No matter how many times and for how long I pressed and held the power button, the green LED only flashed for a split second and that's all. I plugged in the charger, and the LED stayed lit -but- there was this barely noticeable flickering. Charged it for about 30, 60, 120 minutes, didn't start plugged or unplugged. I went to work, 8 hours later (phone was unplugged) I tried to turn it on again, this time the LED doesn't even flash, but when charging there is no flickering. No combination of buttons works. Windows doesn't find the device, neither does RSD.
I've never done anything 'custom' to the phone. The last change I made was setting the alarm to turn off by shaking (yesterday, never used this option before).
Is it dead?
Try taking SD card out and holding Vol down and then Power for 20 secs, then let go of Power,
Already done that, nothing. No matter how long I charge it now, after unplugging and pressing power button the LED doesn't even flash. Could it be a battery problem (before its death, it would last for a day)? Is there any way of recovering my data without buying a new one?
Try opening and disconnect battery for a bit.
I'll do that as a last resort, on weekend maybe since I don't have the tools with me. Any other clues?
Nobody knows how to help me?
I'm going to make a factory cable. Will this alone allow me to recover the data? Or if I'll be able to flash the phone, can I recover the data afterwards?
Also, I'm not sure if I understand correctly: does the factory cable recharge the battery or not? Is there a way to recharge it when removed from the phone?
Try to use medfield unbrick script. If You have only green led it seems to be bootloader error so this script should bring Your phone to life or Your phone has broken emmc and You can start looking for a new logic board. Good luck.
I've installed the drivers, but Windows and XFSTK don't recognize my device at all. Factory cable also didn't help. I liked my phone very much.
Did You enter medfield mode using combination with camera button??
By a combination you mean holding the camera button and connecting the phone to a pc? I tried that.
Disassembe Your phone, pull out battery, push power button for a 10 sec, plug in battery, push camera button and connect USB. If it wont help You I don't see any hope for Your phone.
Well, new option to try is a new hope. I'll try that on the weekend. Could you please be more specific:
1. Pull out the battery.
2. Press the power button and wait 10 seconds.
3. Insert the battery: should I be still holding the power button at this moment?
4. Press the camera button.
5. Plug in the usb cable (factory? regular?) - should I be still holding the power and camera buttons?
Battery trick is only to discharge capacitors. Sometimes even phone is dead it can turn on in some strange mode and then You can't boot it to flash. Thats why You need to pull out battery, push power for a few sec to completely discharge motherboard and just release this button. After that You can just plug in battery and continue normal unbrick process - so hold camera button only and connect regular usb cable.
You can also try reset option instead of pulling battery out. To do that do not disassemble Your phone but just plug in regular USB, when phone starts (green led) hold power and vol- until green led goes off and then quickly start holding only camera button.
I have no more ideas.
Ok, I've tried everything. Nothing brought my phone back to life.
Thanks for all your help.
