Timezone and time update (doesn't seem to work)
I have looked all over the wiki and the forums trying to figure out if I have the latest versions of everything, and to say the least I'm confused.
I keep seeing references to the iMate BT stack upgrade, Helmi's BT Widcomm BT upgrade, the seven or more other BT upgrades on the FTP. My eyes are starting to cross.
There is getting the audio (OS, media player, etc) to be redirected to the BT headset vs the device itself (can't figure this one out)
There is the Cyberon voice dialer vs MS VC 1.5/1.6. From what I can tell, VC 1.5 doesn't work, but 1.6 does, which I can't get to install, and either one is supposed to be better than the Cyberon dialer (which I did install).
And then there is the BT file sending and receiving stuff, which I can't seem to find anything on either.
Nor what is OK to install from the massive amount of tools and utilities on the FTP server...
The wiki doesn't really seem to cover this stuff in an order that I can figure out, so I'm posting for help.
(Yes, I did try to figure things out, but after I had to nuke, repave and resync my handheld after a bad Widcomm BT 1.0.0.3900 upgrade package install, I decided to ask).
Does anyone have any advice? If I can get enough of this info together, I'll be more than happy to update or add a page to the wiki.
OK, pretty much all of your questions have been answered numerous times before in other threads - you just need to look beyond the most recent page.
How do you know about the common problems, but you still can't find the solutions? They are usually on the same threads!
A good way of doing this is by using the search tool on the main nav bar. As I am very nice , I have given you a few of the answers to your problems:
BT Send and Recieve - I use xplode's AKU 3.5, which has no bluetooth send function in File Explorer. I am not in the know about whether Helmi's ROM has this. If not, the best option is Resco's excellent File Explorer 2005 - I purchased it, and have never regretted it. It includes numerous improvements to the standard File Explorer, including sending and recieving files via Bluetooth.
This is my reccomendation on that one
BT Headsets - I do not own one of these, so can't help you here, but I have heard it frequently mentioned on the forum, so look around.
Voice diallers - To be honest, it depends on which one you like the best personally - both have most of the same features. I suggest you try M$ VC 1.6, then 1.5 and if either of them work, be thankful for what you have
Tools on FTP - Due to a high number of viruses on their recently, I suggest you stear away unless you have a reason (which you don't seem to) and you know what you are doing.
BT Stacks - These are separate software - they are not different versions. I suggest you use MS stack, as it has the most support from other sofware - widdcom is oftem not supported. And I suggest you stop fretting about whether you have the latest version! You don't have any reason to want it!
This is all I can help you with.
If any of this is not accurate, I'm sorry, but I'm only trying to help. I don't know everything there is to know YET

I have, and the answers are either for older versions of the ROM, or refer to having something on the device (say, the BT stack) be a certain version, which I can't figure out which one I have.
Here's as example: Trying to find out how to find which BT stack I have and the version/build. Hit the advanced forum search, limit the search to just the BA forums, search for "find bluetooth build", get 30 threads, many of which have over 200+ posts, many of which are a year or more old.
Searching for "switch, widcomm, microsoft, stack, wm5" brings up two threads, one which say don't do the tutorial listed on another site, it will brick the phone, and the other is discussing another cooked ROM and doesn't say anything about switching the stack.
Then there are things like this post about removing the 3 second ring delay and making sure the ringer is really loud (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=258109). I ran across that one doing the above listed search. No where in the wiki that I saw under the BA pages was that listed.

While I do appreciate your effort, I'm afraid that none of my questions were answered.
BT send/receive, you say you don't know about Helmi's ROM as you don't use it, then recommend another piece of software (which I will look into, thanks)
Audio over the BT headset, you say you don't have one so you can't help.
Voice dialer, you suggest to try the MS ones, which I have said I have yet to find anything that states it will work on the ROM I have installed, much less where to find it.
FTP server virus scare. Eh, I'm not worried. I've very careful with unknown files and have AV and firewall software on the machine I run active sync on.
BT Stacks: There are different builds/versions out there from Widcomm, and I can't find anything on the MS stack. And yes I am going to worry about the different versions as there are reports of the various builds having better or worse performance and features.
I'm still confused on a lot of things. I'm trying to organize what I do find, but as I keep finding conflicting information, I'm getting no where.
I di thank you for the reply tho, and the pointer to the program. I still want to know about the ROM that is on my device tho.
jdc,
you got one of the best & the latest wm5 BA roms around. the choices anyway are xplode's aku 3.5, helmi's aku3.5 rom kitchen (similar to the vanilla version) & helmi/logout ROM.
if you want to add the latest additional programs, go download one of the earlier aku 3.5 v1.4 rom (non-vanilla) of helmi or xplode's aku 3.3 rom and extract the extended rom, add the dir to your storage card & reflash.
stop looking for newer versions at the ftp, all the threads of helmi & xplode are informative & comprehensive enough to answer your querries or provide you with the programs you may need. do check out the earlier aku3.3 threads of both so you can have an idea of what you are getting from the latest aku3.5roms. most if not all the progs you need are all there.
most of the confusion you have is because you strayed away from the thread you got the rom from. like the ms bt stack which is built-in in all the roms above, if you don't have problems with it then stick with it. if you read through the widcomm bt stack thread of helmi you will find out why some PREFER it. stress on that word because eventually it's your decision, like me i use ms bt because it serves my purpose well - i don't need to stream music to bt stereo headset, or transfer files using bt.
ms voice command v1.6 also works well in the roms. check out your version & file.
if you have any problem with other things, checkout the thread first before posting your problem & when you do post include all the info on your problem: i.e. bt reception problem using ms bt stack & hb200 in helmi aku3.x rom.
the ftp is a mix compilation of test files, new releases, & some very specific to a rom version. if you want to d/l something make sure it's from the directory of the rom ou have - ie.: helmi_c or xplode. stray from it at your own risk.
don't expect too much from wiki either, although the forum is moderated there are so much information to gather & compile to be as comprehensive for newbies. stick to the threads i've mentioned above, they are as good as the wiki. besides, xda-dev is not the iMate or Qtek or O2 forum where support is expected for the roms they publish. most of members here are enthusiast & sharing precious time & skills for free & for fun. (xda)-DEVELOPERS not users, although most users have benefited from it.
please don't get me wrong & get offended, i'm sparing you the bashing which others might give you for your post. oh i forgot, i'm a BA newbie too. "i've read all over", tried the roms, DECIDED to stick with it, and live with it & all the limitations this aku 3.5 brings (like smart dialing).
cheers!

Ok, I will do this. The amount of information at this site is overwhelming to say the least. My first stop has always been the wiki (which is what a newbie is supposed to do), followed by the forum search. I have spent days worth of time searching and reading both trying to figure things out before I posted anything (I've been reading the following the site as much as I can since the BA was the top of the line phone). Due to the amount of people always stating to check the wiki made it seem that the wiki was the final repository of information, which it isn't always per your post. This alone will help me find the info I may be looking for as I won't have to spend so much time looking both places and getting more and more frustrated in the process.

Oh, believe me, I know this and don't expect the developers to drop everything, as it were, to answer any and all questions that come their way (I see enough people on some open source project mailing lists who do that already).
In fact, I went and signed up for a MSDN account today. I didn't see any info on developing for MW6, just 5 at the moment, but I hope that I will be able to give back to the community that has provided such a great resource.

Thanks again!
I'm thinking about two things. I dont really use touchflo, but i want a rom thats not program filled, like the stock ones. Touch-IT and PDAViet are sort of fulfilling in this sense, but they include touchflo.
I would be looking for a rom without ANY extra programs, but WITH biotouch (the finger scrolling thing)
Is this possible?
I agree. The cube is nice visually, but it's really kind of pointless.
concur. Maybe we can get somebody of higher knowledge to make us a wing rom with the specified modifications "cough*Itje*cough*. No pressure though.

If you have a wing like me, you can try the following.
Just an idea, but what about installing the t-mobile rom with just touchflo.
Which does not have all of the extra apps, then go to TF setting and disable all except for Enable Scroll.
Actually, i need the RAM AND the memory that is being taken over by touchflo. Biotouch is useful as hell, but touchflo, even when installed, takes up space. Also, other apps still run in the background. A fully optimized one would run no other apps in the RAM other than those required to function + Biotouch.

AFAIK this should not be that difficult, you should be able to seperate biotouch files from the HTC_touchflo oem. Drop a line to PDAViets Tom Codon (he is is the one that created the touchflo oem for cooks) and ask him what the situation is, I am sure he will be glad to help you with a file list that is associated with biotouch. After that it is simple as running a kitchen once and just dropping in the files.Get a list of associated files and I could cook one for you...but I wouldn't take my time with it like itje does, I would just add that and thats it. There is much to be done other than that, mainly registry setting and a clean up of the rom. Should consider checking out the hypercore kitchen thread, it is very easy once you get the hang of it, just very time consuming.
edit:just checked out the oem and most of the files say biotouch before it, the only ones I am not sure about but I think you should include are the.brn files...anyone care to comment on the use of these files
also here is a link for anyone interested in the oem

that would be nice I never use the cube myself, a vanilla bare bone rom is what I am looking for just like what anichilus did for the wizard I actually started cooking one 2 days ago but I could not get the kitchen to work and the fact that I never cooked a rom does not help much, but a rom based on the T-mo one without any T-mo stuff and all the extra Micro$oft crap and a few basic tweaks would be fantastic I will just keep dreaming for now, I am using the touch-it light I removed most T-mo stuff and all extras that I could remove, changed the pagepool to 4 MB and it's running great thanks again itje, hmmmmm.......whispering vanilla..
I believe the .brn files are animation files for the cube. Dunno how to do this though. I'm clueless in HyperCore. If nobody's asked Tom_Codon, i'll ask him.

no need to ask him, got it on the first attempt. I've made a WM6 Herald Rom with the only change being the added biotouch. I'm gonna spend the next few weeks trying to remove all the extra stuff. Unfourtunately I don't have a wing so I won't be cooking a clean rom for the wing(unless someone wants to write down exactly all the files they want me to remove), not familiar with all the stuff they put on there. Although, I can cook t-mobile rom with just biotouch enabled...but who would want to use that with all the extra crap they put in there.

ye figured it out thanks...do you know how I could remove internet sharing completely??
EDIT:I've been able to find and completely remove 100's of files associated with voice speed dial, adobe, audiomanager, windows live&msngr, midletmanager, winzip
the programs I am having trouble fully removing are:
*internet sharing (i know in SYS folder there is INTERNETSHARING...anything else associated with this app) "
mediaplayer (i know its mediaOS but not sure if I can delete the .dll also in these folders)
I'm also planning to remove the games aswell.
EDIT:you think its alright to remove the transriber folders, (3 of em) i notice some picture files in there that might still be needed unless there is another version of them of the rom
If i'm not mistaken, which i probably am, the only difference between the wing and the herald is the keyboard. But i'm probably wrong.
Maybe Itje can provide us with a list of things he changed to make Touch-it for wings.
if you remove to much, the os.nb will become smaller then the 50mb limit and wont work. So if you remove very much, add stuff too

wasn't aware of such a limit. at one point I had it tested and working at 43mb. added batterystatus,a theme and some other stuff. Currently I am sitting at 48mb and am looking to have it at around 40mb if possible. By removing WMP and Powerpoint I should get a little closer.
Who told you about this limit btw???
Huh. Sound good. Shame about the potential 50mb limit, thought it would be nice if it wasn't true.
But anyway, what ARE the differences between the herald and the wing? It'd be nice to know, so maybe we can make some cab fix.

Meschle (chef on artemis section, and moderator)
but maybe thats just on the artemis....
If you get it to work on lower mb, thats just good herald owns artemis
btw, I managed to port a rom (sys folder) from a artemis to herald, I flashed it today and it worked great.
Im gonna port a rom to the wing when im done with the ones im working on now. Currently working on getting the Kaiser sys ported to herald, if this is success ill do one for wing too.
dang. hopefully it IS just for artemis
Oh and i worship you.
let me know how that kaiser port comes port comes along. I would love to play around with that in a kitchen.
cheers
btw itje whats the memory situation on your latest rom after a fresh flash for the storage and program memory, both the total and in use...just curious for comparison
Ill give an answer to that later tonight (gmt +1) Im gonna test a new build then
1. I keep reading on these forums that having a 4mb pagepool is a bad thing, or that it may cause problems. Has anyone had any personal experience with it? I currently use the 6mb and don't see any reason to go any lower, but the next Touch-IT rom has a 4mb pagepool already built in so I'm wondering.
2. Has anyone tried this on their Herald/Wing? I can't because this Touch-IT rom that I'm using lacks the Internet Sharing program.
3. I'm becoming more and more interested in cooking, but I'm afraid to try anything because it seems that every kitchen I've downloaded has had a "herald" option but not a Wing option. I've been able to successfully put a Herald rom on the Wing but the keyboard issues bug the heck out of me. Is there a kitchen that takes care of this automatically by giving me a Wing option? Basically, I'm tired of having to clean up the ever useless my5 and fixing all the little bugs by hand.
I have used 4mb pagepool as long as I can remember, never had any problems.
Im starting to wonder if I got the "wonder" p4350, because I never had any of the issues ppl experience with wifi, keymapping, pagepool etc etc, on custom roms.
If you do a search in the wiki, you can find internet sharing progs. The reason I left it out is that many dont use it, few do. So, when I leave it in, ppl complaint why I didnt remove it, and when its out, others complaint why its not there cause they use it all the time..and so on.
Cooking for wing is same setup as p4350, its just diffrent apps, reg edits, and so on.
Good luck with cooking if you gonna try...
btw, I am not providing assistance on "cooking for dummies." Find tutorials on how to cook in this forum.
ALL the info you need to start cooking is provided here on xda-dev. and then some...
good luck
Thanks!
Yea, the cooking I can figure out, it's just the making sure that things match up to the Wing and not just the herald.
Although, I'm still not sure if the effort is worth it as you already make some great roms. I almost feel like just making a customer install file that will setup everything I need instead into whatever rom I'm using at the momment.

I can't believe more people complain about it being missing than it being included. I can understand stuff like Transcriber but MS has made internet sharing so freaking easy with this program it is seamless and takes a matter of seconds to accomplish. I for one am happy they got rid of BT DUN in place of this.
Is there someway I can put it back on? I searched the WIKI and I do not see any free Internet Sharing apps. And I am sure they do not compare to the stock version that comes with WM6.
The Touch It rom is near perfect but Internet Sharing is killing me because I use it to hook up my work laptop while I am at the airport.
Thanks for your efforts and thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have about getting my Internet Sharing back without having to go back to the stock rom.
Anyone know where I can get a cab of the Frogger game that is in the RC2 ROM?
looking for it myself
Ya i would also love that... game is sick
Not sure what's in the ROM you mentioned. I've never run across a freeware "Frogger" for Windows Mobile. But there are a couple retail versions available. One is by Konami and the other by Game Zone Project. A demo can be downloaded for the latter. I'd upload a cab for it but can't seem to do so at the moment.

That's exactly the ROM that I saw it in. Just wondering if there is a way to get the cab for this.
Just tried the demo at http://www.mobihand.com/product.asp?id=2067&n=Frog, and it seems to work graphically (portrait only, not landscape) on my fuze, even though it says it's for qvga. It may be me, but seems a little slow. (I hate not having demos--you never know whether it'll work without any buttons, so to speak, or in landscape.)
In this Vogue ROM thread, there are links to add-on apps, including a gamer pack zip file, that includes Frogger, but it required you to copy files to certain directories manually. It does seem to work fine on our Raph's.
It is reportedly freeware, according to that thread, and the fact that it's cooked into Raph ROMs.
I extracted it and made a cab. Enjoy.
It works, your the man... but it drags a little and i gotta figure out how to map the buttons

Another thank you. I love that game.
Here's the .cab I use and it works perfect on my Fuze running Energy ROM
This is an exe file that works well on my TP
I am interested if this is impossible task as i havent noticed any 6.1 rom having it?
Hi! Yes, it is possible and it's been done on other devices. I suppose there really isn't a lot of interest in it for the HD, otherwise someone would have made it. Perhaps this may be a good excuse to learn how to cook your own ROM and share it with other like-minded people.
Best of luck!

Luck has nothing to do with it. While a complete lack of information does. Not that i wouldnt be prepared to try but i have no clue how to extract files from roms, even less how to change registry hives or how to blend everything into something you can burn. Well if you can point me to some informations about it i am willing to start; the first question that arises is how to extract files from rom...
Root... IIRC there was a ROM floating about for Blackstone that combined Manila 2.5 and WM6.1 - I had a quick search but didn't get any results but I think it was possibly Miri who did this and I do remember the results were quite successful (ran surprisingly well).
Scout around and post your results here if you find anything - I might also try such a ROM... I've tried almost every combination of 6.5 and Latest Manila builds and while I enjoy them to some degree they're really not entirely user friendly...
Maybe I'm just particular, but even slightly jerky graphics and delayed load times bug the heck outta me...
In typical fashion, the XDA search failed to yield the right results... via google I got the following (presumably what you wanted?):

Do you mean where the Start button is at the bottom of the screen? If so, that is part of wm6.5.x and from what I've read, I very much doubt it can be ported to wm6.1
