Hi,
I have my MDA Vario III setup to share its data connection with my MacBook via BlueTooth, which is all very good any well.
But I was wondering if anyone had managed to find a good solution for doing this on the Mac using USB instead?
Its easy enough for PCs with ActiveSync...
Ive looked round on the forum and the Internet, but there doesnt seem to be a clear answer to this...
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon

I have all Macs in my home and my home office. Bluetooth sharing is easy. Syncing with Missing sync , it's a great program, but that and others I have looked at, do not allow internet sharing through USB. I have had my Tilt for a year and a half and have yet to find a way.
Couldn't you use a linux method? I have a Mac Ibook 3g (collecting dust because macs are useless) and I've noticed that it's pretty much just linux with a crappy interface and one mouse button.

TBH i have not found a solution to this as such...
the blue tooth pan option is very very slow in transferring data between the phone and mac when using internet sharing
in the end the beast solution was to use wmwifirouter. the speed is just as good as pairing via usb with a pc. i do use the usb to give the phone a power supply however.
this is the best solution i have found so far

Hi ppl! Don't know if this is the right place to post this but here it goes!
I've wandered if there is a way to use my sweet Trinity as an wireless receiver, like those external wireless usb pens, anyone has any idea if it is possible? I'de like to use my trinity to connect to a wireless LAN.
Hey it's funny because i was thinking at the same idea !
It should be very nice to be able to do so !
If someone has an idea for that ?
Thank's for the help
I don't know if I understand your question correctly. You want to hook up your say notebook to the Internet via Trinity's builtin wifi?
I think it's possible - but not through the Internet Sharing program - since it doesn't treat wireless lan as a modem.
Though I haven't actually tried, I believe you can use BT DUN of WM6 instead.
Have you tried this on WM6?
Any options on WM5?
I'm in the same situation, my desktop PC hasn't wifi and I want to use my trinity as a USB modem and connect to Internet through its wifi capabilities, but the Internet Sharing hasn't the wifi as an option.
Maybe there is such a program like a proxy to achieve this, but I'm not able to find it.
your desktop dont have wifi ?
but your internet router does?
personaly i never seen a pda work as router not sure if the work load is too big
Yes, my desktop computer doesn't have wifi but my Internet router does.
The idea is installing some kind of proxy on the Trinity to share its wifi connection.
It seems it isn't as easy as it would be. I've found this blog entry from Werner Ruotsalainen, but the JVM he recommends doesn't work for me. I'm going to try another JVM when I have some time.
mmh, just trying to do the same... I got it working with the PocketPCProxy from the blogpost. But its not very stable :-(
Any other proxyservers for WM avaliable??
Hello guys,
I was wondering if you could help an extreme newbie.
I just got my tilt a couple of days ago, and with the help of a friend i have installed Dutty's touchflow rom. My problem is the following:
I have a Sony Vaio laptop that connects to the internet wirelessly through my wireless router. My tilt also connects to the internet through the router. However if i connect the tilt to the vaio for an activesync or to charge, the wireless connection on the laptop crashes. It crashes even if the wifi on the tilt is turned off. It can only be restored if i disconnect the phone AND restart the computer.
Did anybody face a similar problem?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
It's an activesync issue.
When not connected to the PPC , Right click on AS icon in the PC.
Select Connections.
on the bottom you will see.
"Allow wireless connection......"
Mark the check box and your good to go
Nadavi
Hey buddy,
Thanks very much for responding. Tried it but unfortunately no joy. Its like my laptop loses the ability to connect to the router. I can see the connection but it just stays there, tries to get an ip, gets one and then crashes again...
Any other ideas?
what nadavi said, helps when you have problems connectin at your phone not your laptop.
perhaps your problem hs to do woth your network-configuration. AS gives a bridged network-interface trough to your mobile phone, connected via AS.
eventually your real-network-interace-driver or something else has problems with thi network-bridging ... did you tried to install AS 4.2 instead of 4.5 or otherwise?

I bet you have a Intel 2195 or 2200BG wireless adapter in the notebook? There is a problem with some of the drivers for the adapter and Activesync that makes you wireless network disconnect when you plug your phone in for sync. I had the same problem on my former laptop, it went a way with a driver downgrade!!! if I remember correct
Another way of solving it was installing Trend Micro PC-illin 2007 Internet security. It installs some sort of driver that made it work, it sound crazy I know but it worked with that - I and more people that I know got it working that way but I dont´t like Trend Micros software
Hey easycure,
Thanks for this response. I took your advice and went the opposite direction. I do have a 2200BG adapter, but rather than downgrade, i upgraded the driver.
Worked like a charm. Thanks!!
@edi - thanks for your reccomendation too. In the end i did not need to go that way, but thanks all the same.

Yeah it might have been a driver update I did, it was two years ago I had that laptop so I cant remember exactly But I am happy that it fixed it for you - I do remember how frustrating it was
I am having the very same issue. When I connect my Kaiser via activesync the wireless status information immediately appears on my laptop. The internet connection then stops working or only occasionally works. Took me an age to find a related thread! I'm about to update the drivers for the 2200BG adapter so I hope it works!
Cheers
Hi there,
I got a car-pc since a while and have been using my sony ericsson with it... calls get transferred via bluetooth to the computer, as like phonebook in integrated into the car-pc software... all transmitted via bluetooth...
Now with the diamond, how do i set it up as a phone? winXP doesnt recognize other services than the moden funxtion
you should enable Remote SIM access on you Diamond: Start -settings - connections bluetooth SIM acces and also activate the service for your BT connection (do this in the first tab of the BT settings dialogue after connectig)
already done :-( But the Computer doesn't list other functions than modem for the HTC
Do i need any drivers for XP? Usually not...
Using Diamond & CarPC Via Internet sharing over BT
I have a CarPC in my car, it has a 7" touch screen & it is running WinXP and have built in Bluetooth. So for surfing in the internet , MSN, Skype in my car over the carpc i am using my HTC Diamond with the Internet Sharing icon and connecting it via Bluetooth to the carPC so i get FAST Internet over Bluetooth between my carpc and my HTC Diamond.
It works very good - very stable.
Matter of fact it is "capturing" my 3G Internet and pass it over Bluetooth to the carpc.
Solution works very well.
k, but i am not interested in using it as internet connection, i want to phone via the computers hardware, so the car-pc should act as an headset... besides that, he shoult be able to access the adress book and to begin calls... that for, i neeed 2 comports emulated, but how to create them?
could it be because the device is seen as a PDA, and not as a mobile phone?
I know somewhere here on XDA there is a reg hack for earlier devices to make them appear as a mobile phone to car kits. maybe the same thing will help here. I don't know where it is, can only suggest searching, unless anyone else can point you in the right direction....
I used to have PhoneConnector on my CarPC, with PhocoAdapter on the phone. It worked, but now this software is not supported anymore and unfortunately it does not work with WM6.
Freefone is not compatible either.
My good Blackbaron, I believe we users of CarPCs and Windows Mobile are scr...d!
By the way, sharing the 3G connection workds a treat, by USB, BT, Wifi... I just wish Vodafone would allow other ports than port 80
I still didnt realize what 3G is... ^^ I never owned a ppc before...
Well, on the CarPC the internet speed is as great as a DSL line, here is France I measured it at more than 3.5 MB/s (KS20 is limited to 4 MB/s with HSDPA, who knows why). Coming from the crappy Edge Motorola phone I had before, the browsing is truly amazingly fast!

1) Launch the Internet Sharing application on your phone (all WM6 phones have it)
2) Select your 3G connection, and BT or USB, tap "Connect"
3) USB: have ActiveSync installed on the PC, connect the USB cable, it's done.
4) BT: you have to set up a BT PAN hosted from your phone, add your PC to it, it's done.
5) If your provider uses a proxy, setup Firefox to use it (Tools/Options/Advanced/Network)
6) If your provider has a filter on User Agent, then you need the plug-in "User Agent Switcher", to put the same User Agent string as on your phone.
There you go!

Looks interesting, I'll give it a try when I have some time. Do they have a trial version?
Yes they have, i leeched it... But i don't find the difference between now and before installing it...
Hi All
After looking at this amazing application - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427097 - I decided to install it, works great if im using the USB wire. But my problem is that Vista wont find my Diamond to connect it to a PAN, ive followed the information on that guide.
Ive tweaked my registry, ive also ran WM6BTPAN which doesnt seem to do much.
Ive also checked my MSI Btoes drivers on my pc. Im running Vista 32bit Business and its find actually pairing with my Diamond, but when it comes to actually setting up the pan, I just get that screen (image attached).
Anyone else having this problem?? or even better anyone else know how to fix this?
Thanks
I got the same problem with xp, too.
I have an Belkin USB adapter and I even started the bluetooth network from the pc with the Belkin software... and in "network connections", the icon looks like it has a connection, but the computer isn't receiving any packages (just sending packages).
So what do I have to do so my Vario IV will connect?
...
I just found out that there is no connection between my Vario Iv and my PC:
I turned my bluetooth on my phone off and let the PC connect with the bluetooth network and it says it's connected.
So, if anyone has an anwser to this problem, please help us.
Thx
Ok I have been looking for a solutions for a long time. I want to use my shiny new Dell Mini 10 with windows 7 for turn by turn directions and i want to use my at&t tilt as the GPS receiver. So, what FREE solutions do I have? Google Earth would be sweet if it had VOICE directions.. but I know the odds of finding a free solution for that is going to be slim.
also, i keep thinking that i'll need a data connection AND a way to share the gps signal?!
bluetooth isn't an option.. at least not yet. I have to buy a BT dongle some day soon. HOPEFULLY i can find a miniscule BT USB thing so it wont stick out the side of the mini too much.
So i have 2 options for connections.. i have WIFI router on the tilt or i have to use USB. but as far as i know.. if i use usb i have to then CHOOSE between internet sharing or activesync... i need to use active sync to share the gps ports but i need internet sharing to get the data connection!!?? sooooo confused..
someone PLEASE help me
thats the situation.. to review... here are the questions i need answered.
1) what software to use on the laptop?
2) what software(s) to use on the phone?
2a) gps sharing?
2b) internet sharing?
3) how to connect the two? (usb, wifi or bt)
THANKS AHEAD OF TIME to whoever responds..
and please don't BURN me because I HAVE SEARCHED.. if you know the threads i should read then please just link me and i'll be happy to read them over..
Well, you'll need something like gps2blue
http://users.skynet.be/hofinger/GPS2Blue.html
on the tilt and Hardware Virtual Serial Port from here:
http://www.hw-group.com/products/hw_vsp/index_en.html
That will make the GPS on the Tilt look like a Serial port GPS device to the netbook.
That is the easy part. I don't think you'll find a free GPS mapping product with turn-by-turn voice commands.
Actually you will
