I have no clue what I'm doing wrong here.
I reformatted a SDHC card to FAT32 on my computer.
I put the new firmware (renamed to "Kovsimg.nbh") onto the card.
I turn it off, then turn it on using the volume down + power button method.
I see the 3 color stripes but then it tells me "No image found!"
Am I missing something here?
I made sure the file is actually Kovsimg.nbh and not .nbh.image
I also downloaded the firmware from both the rapishare and the megaupload mirrors.
I'm using an X1i and trying to flash to the UK Generic R2A.
You forgot to Hard-SPL your phone first! Search for it over here and youll find it.
I was under the impression Hard SPL wasnt needed if the rom I'm flashing to is official?
If it is an "official" SE ROM release then it doen't need HSPL.
Yea it is, or at least its supposed to be.
Any idea whats wrong?
Maybe I should just use SEUS?

Plus if you have a locked device, the SD update won't work, only with the provider's ROM update, I think.

This might sound insulting, but did you actually unpack the rar, or did you (as I did firstly) just rename the rar-file to Kovsimg.nbh?

The phone is unlocked. Bought it that way.
And I did unpack the rar :\

Got it from the stickied thread here. Tried both the rapidshare and the megaupload mirrors.
SEUS it is I guess... I heard that took a painfully long time though :|
Ok... new problem...
SEUS doesnt do anything after I finish all the steps and plug the USB cable into my phone at the tri color screen...
EDIT: nevermind.. restarted SEUS and its working now.. slowly...

Hi. I already did a search for this but didn't find any help for a Herald.
I tried updating to 6.1 and it would not work. It would start to install but then crash and start over again. I probably tried 20 times and it would not work...not my phone is stuck on this screen with Red, Green, Blue and White stripes. Is my phone dead? Is there any hope? Thanks in advance!
This question is asked at least one or 5 times a week. Please search.
If your SPL still says 4.0.0.0, just flash another ROM. Assuming you have HardSPL setup or you were using USPL.
If your SPL says 1.0.0.0, then follow this.
Sorry like I already mentioned in my post I could not find a thread specifically for the Herald so I made a post.
My screen says IPL 4.26.0002 and then SPL 4.26.0000.

Anyhoo, have you tried just reflashing back to the stock ROM or another ROM?
Tell me exactly what you did to flash.
Went to T-Mobile site. Typed in my phone's info and downloaded the 6.1 update for Windows Mobile...followed the instructions to install. It would start installing and then stop or crash I can't remember exactly. But I tried many times. I called T-Mobile and they said I had to get a new phone. I've never flashed my phone or anything like that...I had Spb installed on it and that was it...
Well I took out my ol Wing and tried to do the update once again to remember what error I keep getting.
The update starts to install on my Wing as the bar loading bar starts to fill it stops and then tells me an error has occurred.
ERROR [262]: UPDATE ERROR
Some type of communication error. But I can recover. So I do and then I try again. I've done this like 20 times before. I don't know if that helps any but thats my problem...
First, find hardspl and flash then flash rom

Sounds like there's a problem with your computer talking to the phone. Try taking tmobile's ROM, take out the NBH, rename it to HERAIMG.nbh and place it into your SD card (formatted to FAT32.) Then turn on your phone while holding the camera button.

Wait...so I'm a noob...T-Mobile's ROM? Where do I get that? Do you mean the update file that I downloaded from T-Mobile? Thanks again!!! I hope this works! And will MS-DOS FAT work when I format the card? I am using Mac's Disk Utility and I don't get a FAT32 option.
Well I think I have the ROM actually. It's an EXE file so I'm not sure how I can go into it and rename a file inside of it. Sorry...my noob is showing huh? Here's what I downloaded awhile back that I think is the original ROM you are talking about.

(I'm not 100% sure this is the correct forum, but since it is very ROM related it didn't feel all wrong to put it in here...)
Hi guys. After som serious flashing of cooked ROMs I decided for some unknown reason that I should try to restore a stock ROM. Now, being very tired as I was, i completely forgott that its probably a good idea to flash a new Stock ROM on the unit BEFORE flashing it with a signed SPL....so I just flashed the Signed SPL to the device. That in it self seem to have gone ok, because when I start the unit it say "SPL-1.15.0000". Problem is though that it also says "Upgrade ROM error, please try again"
Now, what should I do? Have tried put both signed and unsigned SPLs on the storage card and started up via the volume down/pwr button thingy, but that does not seem to do anything. I have also tried to attach the unit to a USB port when in tricolor mode ("USB" shows up on the screen) and tried the CustomRUU program. It finds the device and starts to "upgrade" (grey screen on the device with 0%) but then it just doesnt seem to get any further...
As the device was working fine with a custom ROM before I started all this, I suspect that the main problem proably is that I now have a Standard SPL with a cooked ROM, and that they collide sort of. I, as well as the Blackstone, is now stuck and I am all out of ideas what to do? Have also tried Hard and Soft resets, but that doesnt seem to change anything.
Help!
try removing the SD Card and put the phone into bootloader mode and re-flash the stock ROM! if this doesn't work ... still with the SD Card removed try flashing to USPL and flash the stock ROM again!
hope this helps
You can try USPL on your HD and flash a custom or stock ROM with it.

Thanks for the feedback!
Just be be sure, "into bootloader mode" is when you start the device holding down volume down and powerkey until you see the tricolor screen? Then that is probably what I have tried to do for a while now without success (total success that is, I do get into the tricolored screen)). Or maybe I am doing something wrong, could you perhaps point to a detailed explaination besides the one in "HardSPL" thread?
USPL I havnt tried, will do that! Is it still so that trying to do USPL on Vista is asking for trouble?
I read somewhere that Stock ROMs should only be flashed from internal storage, not SD cards, is that true? If so, how do I go about accessing that storage now when it doesnt show up in the file explorer on my PC (PC recognizes it as USB device, "HTC Sync" but I get no file access to it).

bootloader mode is when you power off the device and hold the volume button down and press power till you get the tricolor screen...
so here is what you need to do .
1. remove the sd card
2. go into the tricolor mode connect your device to the pc and make sure it says (USB) at the bottom
3. run the stock shipped exe from you pc
if that didn't work then you should try the USPL version.. and there is a guide if you are using vista.. i just tried and worked fine.. here it is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3331078&postcount=153
and the reason i'm asking you to remove the sd card because if you have a rom (blacimg.nbh) it won't let you do anything it will try to flash from the sd card and right now you don't want to do that.
and you shouldn't put any rom into the internal storage of the phone..

i don't think anything would happen... the file will get deleted when you flash as the rest of the files in the internal memory
Thank you everyone! The USPL thing solved it, when I did it from a XP machine! The once bricked Blackstone is not alive an kicking again!
About USPL, I saw the workaround for Vista, but downgrading a few components to make it work just doesn't seem like a safe way to do it. And I cant help but to think that it might have unwanted side affects, ie affecting system stability. But maybe I am wrong?
Going back to shipped ROM without bricking?
Hi,
After reading this thread I am now a bit worried and, as a newbie, would appreciate maybe a "simple" answer to my question.
I''ve been experimenting with various cooked ROMs after following the guide in the WIKI for installing HardSPL and then putting the ROM file (BLACKIMG.nbh) on my SD card and installing it using the power on + volume down button method.
However, I now want to revert back to the original "shipped" ROM, which I have downloaded from the list of shipped ROMs via the WIKI (I downloaded the one which closely matched what was originally on my HD - as I didn't know how to backup the actual ROM on my HD at the time).
So, my question:
How should I put the downloaded original/shipped ROM:
RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.3_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14_Ship.exe
into my HD without bricking it?! Do I just run it on my PC with ActiveSync enabled or do I need to do something to remove the HardSPL or something first?
Sorry if this has been answered previously but I get confused when a thread just makes loads of references to SPLthis and SPLthat etc.!
if you have the HardSPL already installed on your phone then you don't need to do anything more.. just connect your phone to the pc and let it sync (activesync enabled) and flash to any shipped rom you want by simply running the exe file..

Hello,
I know you guys got some excellent walkthroughs, roms, programs and threads where you've helped a lot of people out but I could really use some personal feedback. I had hoped to fix my phone using one of the excisting threads but unfortunalty I can't get it to work with those.
My problem is one I've seen more of in here, I used the SE updater and it froze at 53%, I did what the program said, reconnected and it froze again at 12%, and again, again, etc. So I disconnected thinking it might be a bad USB port. But then the updater didn't recognise my phone at all. So I used the mtty program suggested in some of the threads and I got past the red/green/blue screen but now it's stuck at the Sony Ericson logo, as if WM6.1 is gone.
This is what the red/green/blue screen currently states:
KOV110
SPL-0.78.0000
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707
From what I gather this means I can't flash roms, right? I tried making it a hard-spl but when I use the tool it says it can't connect.
So is there anyway to get a rom on it and bring it back to life?
Thanks inadvance!
Get an original rom from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475482
copy .nbh file from the package onto your sd card and rename it to : Kovsimg.nbh then bring phone into boot loader via : vol down + power.
It should flash the rom now. i the problem is still present after that you
have to deal with mTTy but first try the flash...
i think you could also bring phone into bootloader without sd card inserted then connect usb cable, display should now print 'USB',and after that start rom update utility.
regards

Thank you for your reply, I will do as you said although I've already tried something similiar to this. I believe the problem was that I couldn't flash roms from my SD since I don't have the hard SLD. But I will try it anyway as soon as I get home.
In the mean time I would love to hear more ideas about how to fix my phone.

You really need have to flash the HardSPL first as, based in your above post, you still have not done that. It will be useless to flash cooked ROM with that. If you can still power on your phone and you have an activesynch in your computer, i suggest you download the HardSPL first and update your phone using your PC. If you are successful doing that, then you can flash all you want.

My phone can still power on in the sense that it shows the Sony Ericson logo or that I can access the three collor screen. But it won't launch WM6.1. I also have a problem with updating to hard DSL. It does recognise my phone because without it connected the program finds nothing and with the phone connected it wants to start updating. It says ''updating from image version: (emply) to image version: 1.00.X1 Ipress next and it opens a progress bar on both my X1 and the PC. But it never goes beyond 0% and then gives me an connection error. I think it has something to do with not being able to get passed the Sony Ericson logo. I mean the hard-DSL program does recognise my mobile but activeSync is never active because my PC doesn't recognise a WinMobile phone (since it wont go past the Sony Ericson screen)

Because I'm dutch but my mobile has always been in english so I'm not sure what rom version I had. Except that it was identified as an R2 Rom by the Sony updater before it killed my X1...

Alright so I got an R1 original rom (I now realize that the R3's were originals aswell) and it worked! I'm not sure if it was the different rom or the formatting with FAT32 that did but it works again. So I'd like to thank everyone who was kind enough to reply.

DON'T hard-spl if you're going to flash a stock ROM. And especially if you're going to use SEUS.
Try flashing the R3A first. The R1s are way slow, as you've seen.
I have read about 10 pages of charging and syncing problems but they weren't like mine. I flashed hardspl 3.34 and then it all went bad. When it is turned on it wont charge from wall/car/usb. When I put it into bootloader, it seems like my computer recognizes it (it asks me if I want to safely remove hardware) but windows mobile device center doesn't say it's connected, nor does it show up in computer. I did a hard reset and all that. It still has original 6.1 rom. Should I flash another spl? Or another rom? Any suggestions? I really hope I didn't f up my tilt. I finally got it after I bricked my wizard a year ago.

Well, if you are in bootloader and you got the USB sign on it you are ok. Try to flash another rom or reflash your stock rom.
Yes bootloader seems to work and says usb. I think what I did was flashed hardspl 3.29 following the directions in the "flashing your first kaiser rom" thread. But when I flashed 3.34, I flashed it using usb and not an sd card like it said. I just want to go back to original spl and rom.

Like the title says, any possible method on flashing does not work on my Xperia anymore....what to do now?
I use a card which has always worked with Flashing, and my PC recognizes my phone as long as it is not in bootloader.....
more info on "doesn't work", how doesn't it work?
also try formatting your card again
Reset?
I take it you've tried a hard reset?!
Have you searched the forum as well? There's quite a few threads about flashing problems. Your answer might be there somewhere already!
Also, you haven't posted which ROM you are using but if its a stock R3AA series ROM then it might have written the stock SPL back to your device (and new radio firmware too) so that might be your problem, since the stock SPL doesn't support SD card flashing.
Without more information on your problem I doubt anyone will be able to help!
The Rom I use is Touch it BL, and I have formatted the card several times, that is all the info I can give you I guess...any idea on how to solve this? And thanks in advance for the help, I read through a lot of the forum but nothing seemed to help me...
re-check the image file name, make sure it is not KOVSIMG.nbh.nbh
Did that too, still no results...

No Image is found, not on the card and not via the USB :S
Did you make sure that the image file is copied on to the root directory of your storage card? What brand and size SD card are you using? Is it formatted Fat32? Also, try a different SD card as there have been some problems with certain brands. Could also be that the image file is corrupted. Might try a different image file.
Same problem here!!!
can't flash via card and activesync anymore recently!
AND must boot with usb cable with power to pass the bootloader, otherwise, the screen will stuck in tri-color screen
Make sure you're using a Micro SD and not a Micro SDHC as that usually has the issue you mentioned. If you can still boot to windows try to access the card and see if it's corrupted. You may have a dead card. Just a couple things to try.
Tried all that, after some trying I found out that the phone is performing well when it has started up, WMDC does what it's supposed to and the phone behaves well..untill I try to flash, as soon as it's in bootloader it seems like my PC doesn't recognise my phone and the phone doesn't recognise it's arttached to a computer...

Have you tried re-flashing the Hard SPL to your device?
I know you've said that you can't flash once you are in bootloader but flashing the Hard SPL might work even though flashing a new ROM didn't.
I had a related problem ages ago and re-flashing Hard SPL fixed it for me.
Fingers crossed for you!
Still nothing...I appreciate for the help guys...but I'm getting desperate here...nothing is working!
