shifts battery - Shift Development

Hi, i noticed that shifts battery has 2 outputs for each side. But my question is if i can use all capacity of battery only on wm6 side. Do someone know how is real scheme of battery? Are there 2 stick batteries or only one?

Im sure, you can use all capacity in WinMo. For example, i write text and use exel with Softmaker Office for a long time. (removed presentations and speechbooks to save storage)
Remember: If you start XP/Vista (first time to start WinMo or to sync) and shut it down later, WinMobile still consumed 50ma/h + screen. Batery drain seems 10x faster as normal.
After a softreset, winmobile only need 5ma/h + screen.
For me it is something ritual ... shut down xp, wait, softreset winmobile ...
and now: work! But with full batery capacity. Im sure.
Bye, Lyvia

MDA Compact IV Battery issue

got MDA Compact IV battery don't even last for whole day,
does any one know if its ROM issue,
using same feature as MDA Ameo, Ameo last me more then a day.
any one else having same issue.
Same issue here
If I dont make any calls at all, follow the various tweaks to turn wifi & network data connections (ie turn them on when needed and turn them off automatically 30s later). I manage to get a day and a half! If I start using it properly, I can use it all up in 8-10 hours!
It is only a 900mah battery, but given that the extended batery is only 1340mah it's not THAT much of a difference, maybe a day and a half to 2 days. My Trinity could run for 4-5 days without a charge on low usage.
Still, the phone is sooo nice
Has anyone tried the unofficial extended batteries that are 1800mah?
Yes it is such a nice phone!
My old MDA Compact3 used to last for 3-4 days with little usage and that had a 1200mA battery.
I think its the faster processor and the 3G that slurps up the juice. I read somewhere that if you turn off 3G and use 2G totally, the battery life is OK.
3G phones have always been power hungry. I remember the old 3 phones which would not last 12 hours!
There are a lot of clever people on this Forum, I'm hoping that someone will come up with a solution soon (Maybe slow the processor right down when its in standby)
Well, had the MDA Compact IV for a few days now and I am seriously thinking about sending it back, there seems to be so many quirks.
1) Battery life is a joke!
2) Touch-Flo overrides all other settings and isn't very customisable
eg clock doesn't display in title bar even though it is set to.
3) Email can't be deleted from the Touch-flo interface you have to go to the Inbox to do it
4) Screen switches off as soon as the phone connects, which is a real pain when you have to 'click 2 for tech support'
5) Why isn't there a button to access the camera quickly?
6) The power button on th III was in a much more logical place, on this is is in the 'phone' position, which is fine if you never need it but on this it is needed all the time!
7) Weather doesn't update automatically
I have now given up with Touch-Flo and am using it as I did the III, with SPB Shell and PhoneWeaver, phoned T-mobile and they said it was problem with my handset they are replacing it tomorrow! New game is great though and I really like the phone, most things I can manage with except the battery and the screen switching off.
1. True
2. What? It is customisable to an extent, look at programs like Diamond TF3D Config and the themes available. The clock displays in the title bar for me in all apps. If you want more customisation then use the today screen and turn off TF3D
3. Then turn off TF3D if you dont like it.
4. Use one of the tweaking apps to disable that
5. You can set it open by holidng the call button with one of the tweaking apps
6. It's in the same place it is on all Nokia phones, out of the way so you dont turn it on when you pull it out your pocket from its sides
7. Yes it does, you can change that setting in the TF3D settings, the bottom setting

Mine was "despatched" yesterday so should be at home today when i finish work ... will let you know what its like.
Above all, im looking forward to the flat back replacement, im fed up with the phone being on a desk and rocking when im taping away a text message
i have disable TF3d abd use as normal pda battery last longer like 1 and half day.
but its no point its same as normal pda then. might be get better battery or i have keep sapre battery.
My Battery has improved...
I too reported the battery was poor.... initially.
But it seems to have improved with every charge!
I have cut down all the comms and forced 2G. Gone down to the lowest screen brightness + 1 notch.
The battery went from 10 bars (full) down to 9 bars over 24 hours with minimal use.
I let the battery fully deplete, then gave it a 12 hour charge overnight. The MDA C4 was unplugged at 08:00 yesterday morning and today at 12:45 I still have 9 bars! I am quite please with it now.
I guess I'll have to force it to 2G and move onto 3G if I am surfing for extended periods of time.
Hope that helps.
i user my pda with laptop to surf internet @ work
i use to use Ameo after surfing from 9:00 till 16:00 i still got 30-40% left on my Ameo
with MDA C4 with out TF3D used it for 30. battery drop from 99 to 84%.
if i use TF3d battery drain like mad.
Having a few issues myself, stock T-mobile UK ROM, TF3D running. Reading through somebody mentions an issue with the version of Google maps that is pre-installed, basically doesn't shut down the GPS fully even after closing the program. I uninstalled it, and installed the latest version from Google, version 2.1.0.10. Not sure about anybody else, but my battery life has improved hugely today, with the same usage as yesterday. Used Opera, several emails, several calls, Google maps, and general fiddling and battery is still around 80% (took it off charge 11.00 last night). Don't know if its a solution for everybody, but has REALLY worked for me......
4&5) What one do you recomend?
6) But with Nokias you never use it, the phone wakes up when you press any button
7) Yes, but how often?
This is my 2nd day without recharging and still 40% left. I haven't made any calls but the phone was on and I used wifi a couple of times. Looked upon the album in tf3d a couple of times and some other things. So I think I cannot complain on battery capacity
MDA compact 4 Battery life
Hi
I left the phone for 4 days unused and the battery suvived,
but unfortunatly after changing the original rom and after inserting the sim card the phone now does not stand by more than one day
i tried the minimum use just phone on standby but still less than a day.
any idea about best rom on t-mobile for battery life. or at least the original rom to try
thanks
I just installed AZTOR's x2 ROM, maybe it will prolongue the battery life. The original ROM last just a day, max 1,5 days. I hope it will improve now...

Touch Diamond Battery Problem

Hi, I just got my diamond 3 days ago and it seems to be having some battery problems, even when on standby it drains very fast, how long should the diamond last on a single charge (on standby, talk time, with wifi, or bluetooth) is there a benchmark to compare with.
the battery is just 900mha, like Nokia N95, so it is a bit underpowered, I suggest you to activate all energy saving tips through the program "Advance Config" and if you don't use/need UMTS & GPRS just fix your phone to don't discover automatically GPRS (always through Advance Config) and to GSM band (setting > phone > band), these reduce battery consumption.
bye,
davide
thanks, I'll try that, but even when not in use, the battery drains 20% to 30% per hr. tried it 3 time, same result, doesn't even reach 4 hrs of standby time
really strange... in any case your battery should go better after some cycles, wait at least 2/3 weeks before care
It's because the battery (like so many other aspects of this phone) sucks.
I got the new extended battery but that's useless too. It comes with a new cover for the phone but the battery itself is just twice as fat, so you end up with a 'sleek' phone that has a hunchback sticking out of it very awkwardly.
yep, I don't like the new battery, it makes a different phone
I have followed most of the battery saving advice that the usual programs can set up for you. I would say my phone, if its *just* standby can go 24 hours with just losing one "pin" on the battery meter. That means no calls, no peeking at the screen, no sms or otherwise communication. Since its hard to do this I have just tried 24 hours. If left on true standby I would say the battery would last for days.
I have a car charger and plug the Diamond into it while driving and in the office it sits in a cradle, at least I do not have to look for it under a pile of documents when it rings. Plus it serves as a fancy clock too!
The battery bar goes rarely below 70% while not plugged in.
3G and WiFi are extremly power hungry so do not expect hours of entertainment while they are on.
Fat battery is a bad road to take, I remember old Axim X51v (also HTC) with a 2.2Ah battery, it was like a brick. It is better to have a couple of small batteries rather than one big one obviously unless you want to play games on a transatlantic flight or go hiking for a long weekend.
One thing to remember is that your runtime grows faster than the battery capacity which is caused by the fact that at a slower rate of discharge the battery has a higher capacity, so if the 1350mAh battery is not too big it may be a worthwhile choice, I would expect the runtime to go up by between 75-100%. I just wonder how much longer will it take to charge and also you can say goodbye to most of the protective cases.

Buy a solar panel for mini usb and glue on the back of the diamond, then you will have infite standby time when left in the sun

I am using the Customised Comms manager and that's made a massive difference, basically 3G, Bluetooth and WiFi are off unless I need to use them.
I charged last night for the first time in 3 days, making calls and playing around in between

want one!!!
i get about 1.5 days outta my battery....
only running on 2g with light sensing on 20 or more sms a day with maybe an hour of phone calls all up.
i'll copy-paste my answer from an another thread:
using yr phone in a place where the reception is not good will drain yr battery faster.
i can add (there is a relation) that the level of radiation that any phone is emitting it is also higher when reception it is not strong enough. i've seen it demonstrated yesterday. entering in yr car double the level of radiation, in an elevator the radiation increases 10 folds! yr phone tries to connect and that's energy consuming and radiation emitting (electromagnetic).
i guess that you bought yr phone not too long ago. i know it sounds strange but after a few cycles yr battery's life is going to improve and i am not the only one to observe it.
don't stop the charging when the battery icon is full. i learned using a wall charger with LED (red for charging, green for charged) that after diamond's icon said 100% the charging continues for at least 30 minutes more (the led was not fully green but was blinking red-green).
from my experience u can use all power management option from shap's advanced configuration without loosing yr connectivity. i can not tell u what those option are but after using all i can tell that diamond's battery life improved.
with only 2G and some e-mailing downloading and checking this forum a few times my battery last for 1.5 days. of course their is also 1-1.5 hours of phone calls.
don't expect yr battery to last if you are using yr diamond as an entertainment center (movies and mp3) or as a battery only powered GPS navigator. i am using my GPS in my car always connected to my car charger.
I'm thinking about buying something like that to solve the problem :

Hi
Rom 1.37.707.1
Radio 1.00.25.03
I'm not yet sure what the problem was, but it has something to do with the sim card that I'm using, the sim stop receiving signal and I tried another sim. The battery life improved and now It last more than a day.
thanks,

!!Read post 14 (maybe solution)!! - Strange Battery Behaviour with battery tools

Hello
I have new diamond 2 for three days. It's very good machine, but i've one serious problem with battery. I try to explain the strange behaviour of it:
1) Battery life is too short. I have read in this forum, that battery life is amazing. I dont have this opinion. My topaz's battery life is about 3/4 of a day (standard using)
2) battery behaviour 1 - sometimes i have battery % value another than after restart. For example i have now 50%. When i do soft reset i will have 35%. After second soft reset i will have 42%. Maybe i have problem with battery calibration or something like that. Or ROM is bad.
3) battery behaviour 2 - many times my battery freeze at specific % value (for examlple 40%). At first i though that is amazing battery life. Buuut no. After few hours still was there value 40%. So i tried soft reset and i saw only 16%. I really don't know what is this problem about.
I tried ariel battery bar, which is very simple program and i didn't have problems with it in the past (when i had kaiser). But here was the same problem. Value on Ariel battery bar freezed too. After softreset there was another value. Maybe i will try hard reset in the future....Now i am trying to format battery with process of fully charge and discharge. Maybe it helps.
Has someone the same problem like me?
Detail of my official ROM:
ROM ver: 1.39.479.1 (47382) WWE
ROM date: 04/07/09
Radio ver: 3.43.25.19
Protocol ver: 61.20t.25.10U
Many thanks for help
PS: i had hermes, 2x kaisers in my past, but this kind of problem i haven't had til now. hmmm
Can you list any applications you have installed or is it still original and out of the box with no applications apart from the standard ones?
How did you perform your initial charge ?
I always perform mine by doing a full charge - letting it drain and then back on charge
This happens for the first week - even if it goes flat in the car, I will not plug it in the car charger until I get home and can do a full charge!
Once the first week is done, I charge normally which at the moment has been every 2 days
Did you do something similar?
I have read on here someone else having issues which is potentially down to the battery so it might just be you have a duff battery
thank you for quick response
Apps:
G-alarm
Total Commander
Core Player
Dictionary
MyLight
Nothing special installed. I think at first i must do a hard reset because i must exactly know if this will be on fresh ROM.
First charge - as usually - it was the same like you.
Now i am charging and here is the same strange problem. I am charging now for 2 hour and battery is only on level 50%. So, now i am going to do soft-reset..............few second...................tadaaaa i have 100%. This is not normal. Here is something bad.
But thanks for you help.

I was going to suggest the hard reset route - this would determine if its software or not.
I will say that charging from empty takes a hell of a long time on the TD2! I'm thinking without even timing it, that it is taking around 4-5 hours to charge up ... and thats on mains!
Are you doing a soft-reset while it is plugged into the mains to charge?
Also is it doing this on usb charge (try another cable and NOT the one supplied for the charger)
Have you been using Opera. If so how have you been closing it. Did you go to menue exit or just hit the X? I ask because I found that hitting the X did not fully close it and when I went back to it it was still at the same page and not relaoding my home page.
Also did you set X to close the programs automatically or do you have to hold X to shut the program down?
It is also my 3rd day with the phone but have used internet a lot and the battery seems to be good. I also have been playing lots of games. I have done an initial Full charge and let it drain.... A full charge again let it drain... and last night it got a full charge.... My battery is Full at the moment. Today I have used it mildly for the web.... Like less than 15 min and have played games for about 10. A few calls and that's it. I can say it's doing better than my Elfin has.

Good point - Just for your reference, in the settings menu > advanced settings> System> Task Manager > Button tab
You can set the X to close rather than minimise - I have always set this to be the case so that when I close a program, it does close!
i tried 3 different chargers. Nothing.
Now i am doing hard-reset. Soon i will report.
report-after hardreseting my topaz seems to be fine. Before hardresseting i fully charged my battery. now i am testing it...
hmmm. really interesting. after few hours of testing everything was ok. So i decided to test it with battery applications (ariel battery bar and another tools wich shows battery bar in %.) And here started ainigain the same problems. Can someone test ariel battery bar and test some soft reset? Please watch what happend after restarts with battery %. I tried 10x restart
and everytime was there another value of battery. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower values.....really annoying
Now i have uninstalled all battery tools and i am going to test again if everything is goog...

result - this case showed that some battery apps/tools causes problens with compatibility battery meter vs. these apps..,

Basically I guess the idea was to make it more finger friendly, and less stylus dependant, like other touch devices. So bigger areas to touch onscreen etc.
Also there are plenty of core pieces of software like IE6 upgraded in 6.5. It opens up more virtual memory to be used by apps etc.
At the end of the day, there are only so many tweaks that can be done in software to increase battery life. The best thing to do in my opinion is just to buy a higher rated battery for longer device usage before needing a recharge.
well i just bought the new 2700 battery from ebay it will take 2 weeks till it comes
second i have tryed alot of cab files that fix battery and disable 3g and etc. well its save but when i talk more than 30 min its goes 40% down dont know why
and when i recharge it sometiems its take 40 min to br full sometimes 2 hours too.
strange thing

Which UI has the best battery life? Lets all contribute some data and find out :)

I ran a search on "which ui best battery life" and returned nothing so this is the purpose of this guy
Tried making a poll but perhaps that is an admin ability?
So start throwing some opinions out! I've been running cookies home and gtx cookies home a lot and under medium to heavy use I get 1-2 days worth of battery life. Let's keep our scaling system limited to days and the only other factors we'll include are 2.1/2.5, UI (cookies, gtx cookies, maxmanilla, 2.1 standard, 2.5 standard, etc.), and radio.
Let's also only use this thread for data collecting purposes I'm actually going to collect the data and make some graphs to see if there are any trends happening and share that info with the community.
Here's what I got: 2.5 Cookies Home Radio: 4.49.25.91 = 1.5 days use
You really can't accurately compare UI's that are from different roms... Besides I think it's obvious that Sense and TF3D 2.1 are the best for battery life and memory.
Sorry, but you are not going to get any sort of meaningful comparison unless you have the same usage of the phone between ROMs, e.g. the same number of calls, the same distance from the cell masts (being further away = uses more power), etc, etc.
Sense 2.1 kicks Sense 2.5's butt when talking about battery life. Hands down best battery life. Thats with the auto weather and facebook.
Rofl, compare the resource consumption of TF3D 2.1 to SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.3 build 9885. I average 4-6 megs of RAM usage with three home screens. I get 1-5 days depending on usage (5 when I'm doing stuff that's risky for the phone so I don't bring it ;-) ), but I also use HTC's bigger 2,150 mAH battery. It's the exact same one dougie tested in his battery investigation thread in the Rhodium Accessories forum (I sent him mine to test). It was the only battery to score 100% of rated capacity, and the only way I can kill it in less than a day is by using it as a wifi modem and either torrenting something huge or a very large FTP or HTTP download. Also, several hours of nonstop Garmin will kill it in under a day. But, with about an hour of calls, 100-250 sms, 30-60 minutes of GPS, an hour of wifi, 15-45 minutes of HSDPA, and using GSM/EDGE for everything unless I need to Internet away from WiFi or utilize google maps satellite view for offroad shenanigans I manage 2-3 days on my Tilt 2 with Energy 21905 Titanium, .77 telstra radio, and SPB mobile shell with all my other cabs besides Lumos and Bandswitch installed to microSD.
So yeah, check out dougie's thread. I don't even have to remove and reinsert the battery to utilize the capacity past 1,500 maH like I had to do with offbrand Wizard and Kaiser batteries. It's quite smooth, and the bigger back makes the phone easier to hold. It's still slick, but if you have big hands it makes you feel less likely to drop your phone.

It's still slick, but if you have big hands it makes you feel less likely to drop your phone.

not very clear about your content, which one is less battery drain? TF3D 2.1 or SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.3 build 9885?
Also you get 1-5 days usage? 5 days? this is bomb news.......
First of all,let me introduce several mainstream UIs:
+ Titanium (no Sense,no nothing): if you only use titanium, then your phone surely drains least battery, but with titanium, you just cannot organize your phone easily.
some people may install Today addin which allows you to put programs in the desktop, this addin should not cause any more battery drain I suppose.
+ Sense (formerly touchflo 3D): no idea about its battery drain, but i dont use it,because it's not a convenient program, you just cannot cutomize the desktop that much.
+ SPB Mobile Shell : this is the UI I use, without it,I just hate HTC Pro2,very customizable,as for its battery drain,I have not noticed because i dont have a comparison,my personal opinion is that it doesnt drain that much,I saw someone said Sense drains faster than SPB mobile shell.
Anyway I think bettery drain has something to do with your rom, I even created a thread about which roms are least bettery drain, the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649466
+ WisBar Advance: tried several times, old verisons, newest versions, just cannot work right with HTC Pro2
+ FEWidgets Ultimate: doesnt seems to be fit for HTC Pro2
+ iPhoneToday: this is discovered by me recently, after using it,oh god,it's amazing with almost no battery drain, now it replaced SPB Mobile Shell which was my favorite UI.
PS: other UIs,some guys created XP or VISTA UI for Windows Mobile, but the designers dont seem very serious about it, there is no further devolopment about them, and I tried some of them, looked beautiful, but crappy in practical use.
Ageye is developing Infinity UI, I tried their beta or alpha version, seems very lite and promising, but it is still being developed. their official link:

Sorry, but you are not going to get any sort of meaningful comparison unless you have the same usage of the phone between ROMs, e.g. the same number of calls, the same distance from the cell masts (being further away = uses more power), etc, etc.

As steviewevie says, this is not possible. Another factor is which radio version you are using. And how your rom is configured. There are just to many variables.

I was clear about the content, but maybe not to someone that is not a native English speaker. SPB uses fewer resources and in turn uses fewer mAH.
This is very difficult to compare between people - the useage of a phone is one of the biggest denominators of battery charge. So it is easier to compare a certain person with multiple ROMs, rather than different people with different ROMS. But even with the same ROM, different people will have different results. In my daily use of NRG ROM, I can go 3-4 days. That is including hourly updating of my weather (SBSH Pocket Weather), phone calls, and a little bit of internet - Bing or Google maps, primarily.
I believe based on my experience that the following items will affect the length a device charges:
1. Screen. When the screen backlight is on, it really uses current. I use the "automatic" backlight level, and set mine to 30 seconds screen off.
2. 3G use. In general, using the Internet is power consuming, but even when idle, it appears that 3G uses more energy. Many people turn off 3G to conserve battery.
3. There are some advanced tweaks that will enable power saving on the various devices. I use the advanced configuration tool (also included in NRG ROM) to perform these functions. These are found in the Advanced Configuration under "Power Management". I set them all to "enable". Another tweak is to download the HD2Tweaks program - it has a setting to automatically disconnect the internet connection after a certain time.
4. UI of the phone. I have found that basic WM 6.x "Titanium" is basically about as power friendly as it gets. Here is my order IMHO, from most power conserving to most power hungry:
- Titanium / WM 6.5. Keep in mind it depends on what the various Today modules are doing.
- SPB Pocket Plus
- SPB Mobile Shell
- Sense 2.1
- Sense 2.5 (I find this one in particular to be always turning on my internet, I suppose to update the weather tab).
Anyway, those are my .02, err, $$.
I don't automatically update jack sh*t, cruise on EDGE unless I actually need to Internet something with the quickness or RDC into a server, and I use Lumos to manage my backlight. I like it better than HTC's method, and it uses like 300kB of RAM so f*** it. I'm on Energy 21905 Titanium with SPB Mobile Shell, and for me to get 4 days I basically have to baby my phone. 5 days requires me having way too much fun to be bothered by the phone much, and I'm using a verifiable 2,150 mAH battery as opposed to 1500. I'm going to try the Advanced Config power save options right now, but I read somewhere a while back on XDA that some dude checked the "Make Power Best Life Times[sic]" box on some ROM and it actually degraded battery life. Here's to hoping schaps' power miser tweaks make a positive impact.
iPhoneToday is missed here. It has the best battery life other than Titanium.

I use for the most time the old school windows 6.1 (6.5) homescreen with date, calendar, messaging, homescreen plu plus ui, wireless home plugin and some others. this "old" homescreen comes without any animations, you have all your informations and apps on one screen (I use traylaunch too for the apps). It is not spectacular but fast, neatly arranged, and less battery drain. Best for my on my touch pro 2 and on the HD2 also
I am using an ENERGY cooked rom (the opne with the minimal ram usage and better battery life), in Europe (Belgium), i use internet with 3G because i am connected to skypoe and MSN and my battery, which is a 1750 Mh Seido original last maximum 6 to 7 hours !!!
With the original HTC battery, it is a little bit less ...
Any idea which rom will help me have a better battery life ?
Turn down your brightness. Or stop using a data connection constantly. Otherwise there is no way to get better battery life.

More cpu usage + more ram usage (I think) takes more power. So the interface you're using will affect battery life. Sense 2.5 with Co0kie's Home Tab is probably the worst for battery life. Windows today screen (not even Titanium, the one before that) is probably the best battery life, but I would NEVER be able to use that
There's a post about battery life in FAQ in energy rom threads I think...

Merely leaving your data connection on does not drain your battery. Switching it on and off uses more battery than just letting it stay on. It only consumes more battery when it is actively transferring data. Even with push email it doesn't use the battery except for when it actually downloads a message. This is why you lose a lot of battery in spotty coverage areas and it's constantly attempting to reconnect.

I said, stop USING. I didnt say not to leave it on. It was meant as a reply to the post above mines.
The best way to save battery is turn Updates and ActiveSync off or set it to something like 60 minutes and manual updates for Facebook (if using Sense).
I use the wvga version of "HTC Home" on my TP2,
