HTC TyTN II Kaiser - C++ - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General
Hi,
I'm working on a networking project. Im using the following device:
Platform: HTC TyTN II Kaiser
Operating System: Windows Mobile 6.1
I have a C++ programme that runs on linux in my computer. How can I run the same in this mobile device?
Many thanks

You need to use MS Visual Studio 2005 (or 2008) to compile the C++ program.
Or embedded visual C++.
A list of dev tools for PPC is on the wiki : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Complete list of Development links and resources
Thanks
Dave

Throwing in my 2 cents in. Save yourself the trouble and don't even consider Embedded Visual C++ (4). Stick VS 2005+ and you'll be good.
The free express versions do not support mobile development.

This is what you need to know. There are SDKs for Pocket PCs that are built into Visual Studio. The default ones are adequate. Typically, you'll connect to a PDA/PocketPC via ActiveSync. Visual Studio will pick up on this. There are specific mobile properties and options for this.
From that point, it's point and shoot. When you debug an application, it will automatically go over to the Windows CE device. If you're doing .Net it will install a cab for .Net
Thanks again Peter for your reply.
Even though my project is to programme for this HTC device I don't have the device yet. So what I need to do is test it on my laptop.
Is there any Windows Mobile 'simulator' that I can run on my computer and test?
Also I will need to install Visual Studio on this simulator, is it?

Hi Peter,
Please take a look at the above links. Are these any of the ones I should use?
Thanks
You want to get a copy of Visual Studio 2005 or 2008 if you are serious about programming - I got it from my university and the MSDNAA Website which allows students to download selected MS software which is related to my course for free - and being a computer science student they give me VS 08.
But it is available on several torrent websites. Remember I am not recommending nor do I condone illegal downloading of pirated software - I am only providing information for research purposes.
Why do you want it?
Its a complete developement environment - You get everything - Including an emulator to test your programs. You can download plugins, which let you program in other languages (e.g. I have the VB Mobile plugin which allows me to program in VB for mobile devices) - The plugins are free.
Personally, I use it for a large chunk of my programming - as it supports a vast array of programming languages - and it includes built in compilers (I know this sounds obvious, but I have used programming environments which do not contain compilers), Emulators (for testing) and can support alot more with downloadable plugins (obviously you need the SDK).
If your PC is a little old (eg early XP) - get VS05 - but if you have a newer PC (late XP to Vista), get VS08, they both do basically the same thing.
Hope this helps.
Hi again,
Many thanks for your reply
Will this version of VS work for my project? :
Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition (90-day Trial)

If it does... then i will install it first in my laptop (which run Win XP Pro) and then I will install the emulator.
This is the emulator right?

Software installer
Hi, Does anyone know, how to make a programm for pocket pc without complicated license from microsoft ? I've made some programs with visual studio .net 2003 professional edition but with the one with the student license. So I can't publicate it Another problem is, how to make an installer for my program, that i wrote ? Thanks for any help Donny
you need to make CAB files. MS have their cabwizard. Dont know wich what product it is sold. or use WinCE Cab manager from www.ocpsoftware.com That one at least gives you 15 tries for free . . . . .
suppose you could use ms embedded visual studio somebody said it was free from ms of cause it dont support .net another way is to get the GCC compiler or the free .net compiler for pocketpc's
MS released standalone emulator and localized ROMs
I have noticed that MS has a standalone windows mobile emulator for free on its website, to be installed for demostrations on machines which do not have Visual Studio installed. It also has Windows Mobile 5 ROM images localized to be used with it. Maybe devs (Tuatara & co) can look into it and see if it might contain useful stuff? Being able to localize TuMa ROM builds would be awesome...
The WM5 builds in the emulator images are too old to use, the only use of them may be localization for WM5 devices (which is not so easy by the way)
Sync Diamond with Ubuntu
Hi, Thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone has had any luck trying to Sync the Diamond (Windows Mobile 6.1) and Ubuntu (Evolution, Thunderbird or otherwise). I found this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391587 which lead to this one http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=30936 but it seems miles out of date (May 2005) If you have any solutions please let me know. Cheers, P
Hi, it seems possible to sync WM 6.1 with Linux by synce. But it is quite a lot to configure: http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceWithUbuntu I will be switching to Mandriva because it has integrated WM synchronisation: http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2008.1_Synchronization http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMNpI3RUwo8 Cheers!
I've heard that Mandriva has better sync abilities with WM6.1 as well, but as its open source, I would have thought that whatever Mandriva is doing can be done for Ubuntu. When you setup Mandriva can you let me know what systems and processes are in place for the sync? Cheers, P
Hmm i would also like to see that, ive been trying to sync wm6 in fedora for months!!

Click to collapse i installed mandriva 2009 today and i can assure you it fully syncs with my htc touch running wm6. i really like mandriva but had to uninstall it because my printer was not supported. im more of a ubuntu guy myself and i agree the new version 8.10 should support syncing but i don't think it will.
Kolab Server - Kubuntu (Kontact) - ActiveSync Hi guys, I got it working with Kolab-Server (http://www.kolab.org), which is only needed if you need an Exchange-type collaboration server, kontact (http://pim.kde.org) and my Touch. So basically ActiveSync on TD is communicating with kontact. I used the following tutorial: http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceWithUbuntu This one should also work with Evolution, but I haven't tried it myself. Hope it helps, regards, e
Here's a closed thread about the Mandriva sync in Ubuntu with the developer: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=727373 and another summary of the needed changes: http://www.osnews.com/comments/19481#comment_305438 I'd love to see some instructions of how to get this set up in Intrepid. This is the only thing I boot into Windows for.
There's a utility called HTCFlasher (found on these forums). Does that not work with the TD? EDIT: See here
jongi said: There's a utility called HTCFlasher (found on these forums). Click to expand... Click to collapse That's for flashing ROMs, not for syncing PIM data
Strange why I would post that. I synced my TyTN with this site using evolution - http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceInstallation I am yet to try the TD
Windows Mobile as HACKING PLATFORM?
Hello everyone, I am considering buying the a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone in the USA on Tmobile. I would like to understand what hacking (security testing) tools are available on the Windows Mobile Platform. I am a security professional and have the desire to perform penetration testing from the Windows Mobile 6.1 platform. It seems the MetaSploit framework is not available. I like to work with the command prompt, is the command prompt accessible on the the Windows Mobile Platform? I've read some info about being able to mount ISOs or run emulators. Is there WiFi hacking software such as Kismet available? Does anyone know what hacking tools are available for this platform?

Developing with J2ME in HTC Diamond
Hi everyone, first post here! I am trying to write a imple app in J2ME that is able to give me some measure of localization info printed on screen. To my demise, I found out that the Java VM existing in the HTC Diamond (Esmertec) does not support the Location API (JSR179) and not even the typical bluetooth API! I am currently trying to, somehow, access GSM info like CellID, so at least I am able to output something. Has anyone ever tried to do something like this with the HTC, and could provide some insight, plz? BR, Oldiamons
