HTC Touch Diamond - Dust Problem!! - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I have a HTC Touch Diamond and have been using it for 4 months now, I have always keep it in the included case in my pocket. Recently, I noticed that dust is starting to accumulate over the front facing camera!
I don't know how it got there but I have a hunch that it's going in through the speaker hole. Also, I don't know if it's just my phone but there is a gap between the screen part and the bezel of the phone. Dust is starting to fill the gap.
To clean out the dust from the gap, I take a small moist cloth and run it through the gap. I'm pretty sure that it's just my Diamond.
In case your wondering, it was a BNIB Rogers HTC Diamond, not a used or refurb phone.

the same, with my diamond.
some dust in front of the front(VGA) camera

i have the exact sam problem... also the back under the cover is covered in dust. but especially the vga cam and the speaker is quite dirty

I wasn't sure whether it was just my Diamond, but I also have dust on the back of the front facing camera. Given I don't want to use (or pay for!) video calls, I'm not yet that fussed about it, so long as it doesn't get anywhere more important!
I remove dust from the speaker with a small folded piece of sellotape (sticky side out, obviously!), but there's nothing I can do for the front camera. I also noticed that inside the back cover can get quite dusty.
Oh well...

I've had the same problem with the edges around the front of my Sprint HTC Touch Diamond. Also, in the front speaker hole with the light sensor.
My solution? The straight edge of a piece of paper. Works great for pulling the dust out and so far has been the only thing small enough to fit in the cracks
-Mike

the dust over the front facing camera doesn't bother me as much as the gap between the bezel and the screen portion because the gap is kinda slanted so it makes me believe that the screen is tilted

I had the same problem: dust made the front camera unusable. So I sent it for repair. Came back, fixed.

No protection for camera lens??

Hello fellow Diamond 2 lovers!
Just after assembling the new toy (T-Mobile MDA Compact V) I realized that there is a nice square hole in the back cover, approx. 6 mm wide. The opening for the 5MP camera lens. Funny thing is, behind the square hole there is.... nothing! I can touch the camera lens directly through the opening of the back cover. Between the lens and the cover remains a gap of approx 3 mm, where the air and loads of dust bunnies can travel in and out at will. Is that intended to be like that?? In contrast to that my Diamond 1 has a nice transparent lens protection inside the back cover to "seal" the opening for the camera. I am a bit puzzled.... is it the same way with your HTC Diamond 2?
Greetings, Studebaker
Ahh, so the MDA Compact V is on sale now too ;-)
On the unbranded Diamond 2 there is also no protection for the Camera lens, although the hole in the cover is smaller and circular rather than the square one on the T-Mobile device, so I guess everything's fine with your device.
The older HTC phones, like the Diamond1, had the lens cover that caused low quality pictures, probably HTC removed the cover to make the camera photoes better. eventhough, the lens still has its own cover. So fdpn't worry.
The lens is just problem #1, problem #2 is the open housing and the dirt that will undoubtly find it's way into the case and accumulate consequently....
HTC makes Different Back-Cover for Touch Daimond2.

It's funny that you have a totally Different back cover from me....
My HTC Touch Diamond2 is extrally the one shown on every web-sites, the back cover is a triangle not square box, but also no protection.... just a round hole. HTC must be sleeping! A plastic cover the hole is a must to prevent dust...
Umm..... I not sure about the camera len cover....
My D2 seem the have len cover attached in front of camera under the back cover (as you can see the len's cover shape from the dust ). for the back cover, it just only hole no cover same as everyone said. but I don't see it will need it on my D2
I also attach the photo of my D2. so you can see it.... maybe D2 have many version?
I actually think the circular hole without a cover and the 3mm or so gap to the lens is very sensible, I'm really pleased with it. You can always take the back off and clean the actual lens cover every week or so.
It's better than a flush cover which a) gets fingerprints all over it and you don't realise till after you've taken a picture and b) gets scratched when you put the phone down on its back.
I think HTC got it right on the D2.

Cheap hardware fault...

I've had my optimus black for a few hours now and i'm really liking the screen!
I bought it after being slightly disappointed with the screen and speaker on my desire S (which I still have).
I'm a bit disappointed with the plastic feeling though, and i'm getting a "grip of death" problem with 3G when holding it with my left hand (it loses 2-3 bars compared to holding it in my right hand).
Also i've just noticed a build quality issue on mine, the grill that covers the earpiece has fallen down. I can lift it back up with a pin, but it quickly falls back down again. It looks like the glue didn't work. There is also a small imperfection in the glass right underneath the earpiece. Pic is attached.
Has anybody else had any issues with the cheap build quality?

I've had no real issues with the build quality.
I do hear a very light squeaking sound when I squeeze the right side of my phone, the plastic side of the back cover.
I'm also happy to know that the LG Optimus Black also has Gorilla Glass (discussed here and listed here).
You may want to return your phone for a replacement if the grill keeps coming off.
Ouch, now I'm chicken out to buy this phone.
Iphone4like antenna problem? Bad building quality? (with the known aspect ratio issue) Eeerrrrr, I think I'll choose another one.

I have no issues so far. I hold the phone with right hand i can't replicate the issue. I'm actually quite impressed with the durability considering the plastic nature of it.
so you think it's not a general issue, with the death grip?
This is my first Android phone so i have nothing else to compare to, but it seems i don't lose any signal holding it. But i do have smallish hands so it might be just that.
So don't take my word for it

[Q] display problems - mechanically loose display

A few month ago i got the Nexus S and was realy happy (still am) with it. A few days ago i noticed the top part of my display (actually the glass which is the front part of the phone) was raised a bit. Compared to the rim the display is raised by ~0.2-0.3mm. If i press the display if sticks back but the adhesive between the glass and the rim only holds for a few minutes and then the sceen comes off again.
I took the phone appart (yeah, warranty gone but i couldn't help it... ) and replaced the adhesive (actually there are 2 adhesive films - one part on the phone's rim and the other part on the glass) the adhesive seemed pretty strong - similar to the new one i've used. Now as strange as it sound the new adhesive didn't help a lot as the issue still remains. As i've seen i'm the only one having this issue, or am i not?!?!! Anyways i'd like to hear Your suggestions on fixing this.
One option would be to heat the glass with a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up the adhesive and then use a clamp or something to provide pressure and reattach both sides.
You might want to separate the display from the motherboard before you do this as I'm not sure how well the motherboard reacts to that amount of heat.
Note that the glass is actually adhered to the digitizer (sensor pad) which is adhered to the display frame. I'm not sure which adhesive is loose in your case but you want to make sure they all fit together in the end.

Dust infront of camera lens

I brought this phone a couple of months ago because the only other one I like (Z1 compact) is still too expensive but within only 2 weeks of owning it the front camera had a lot of dust in front of the lens and the rear one some dust.
I don't care much about the front one as its not much use anyway but the rear one is useful.
I took it apart and blew the dust from all the areas with a air duster can and put small pieces of foam in gaps that are apparent near the camera modules including the large gap to the side of the SD card.
This has worked a bit but the dust is still starting to come back - I can only assume it is getting inside from the headphone socket, usb and buttons.
I thought this phone was supposed to be dust proof/resistant?
Anyone else had this problem/ got any suggestions?
I also find most of the pics have some un-sharp areas although the exposure/contrast is ok and the video is a little clitchy/unsmooth
i never had dirt/dust in camera. and i'm not carefully with this phone
i also had never heard of this problem with this phone...

Broken front glass (& usb port) - replacement?

Hi guys,
has anyone of you tried changing the front glass without digitizer and display?
In disassembly videos I can only see people changing the whole thing.
Also, do you think I can manage to repair the front glas as well as the USB port with just an iron instead of a hot air blower (and the usual tools made of plastic)?
Thanks in advance!

I haven't done the front glass on mine yet, but my understanding is that in general you're really better off replacing front glass as an entire unit with digitizer and display. An iron on pretty low through a cloth/towel might well work. It's not just glue that melts, it's a thin strip of rubber gasket material with adhesive (okay, maybe it's thick glue, but it looked pre-formed to me) holding the glass back cover on.
Heating probably helps a bit with softening the stuff, but after the first time you peel it up you won't really need to do that again. I'd recommend picking a corner (say, bottom left as you're looking at the back) and just plan on prying from there every time, so you only have one spot where the plastic gets marred.
Don't spend too much time heating, worry more about having a suction cup tool that you can lift with while you try to work a guitar pick or hobby knife or something in under the corner. Have at least two ready, so you can wedge one in, and work your way around without it just dropping back down on you. You'll probably tear the material a bit but that's okay, just spread it back out evenly around the edge on the glass before you put the cover back on. Also, you definitely should be using a case to make sure it doesn't just fall off in your pocket once you've opened it up a couple times.
USB cable replacement isn't awful, just time consuming. The biggest gotcha is to keep all three of the little gold clips on the plastic "mid frame" ring (that's the first thing you remove that requires screws after getting the back glass up) from fallling and getting lost.
You can PM me if you have any questions about this, I've replaced my USB cable/port assembly a couple times (first replacement was defective). And I'm about to attempt replacing the screen as a whole unit with glass & digitizer on my wife's Z2 Plus, so I'll let you know how that goes.
