Hi,
after I got my Unlock Code from TMob, I like to activate my G1 now with Vodafone in Romania.
This is what I found so far:
Title: VF Internet pe Mobil
Connection: UMTS
Autentificare: PAP
User: live.pre.vodafone.com
Pw: vodafone
APN: live.pre.vodafone.com
MCC: 226
MNC: 01
So when i start my G1, It starts to show the bar with my connection (good with 3-4 Bars). but NO "G" sign in the Top bar. (Does it have to be there??)
When I try to sign in (activation) it always fail of the connection.
Does I have to see a "G" or so in the Top Bar, before I try activation? (i dont have 3G here, only GPRS Data Transfer, that works fine for Internet with my other Mobiles)
Really I would appreciate really your Help, to make the G1 working and activating in Romania.
Greets
Chris
i'm searching for the same thing. i didn't manage to make VF settings. you can try with an Orange sim. easier settings to use. let me know please if you manage to solve the VF settings issue.
PS daca nu te descurci da-mi un PM
nice to read from you.
so you got it running with Orange? and only with 3G or just with GPRS.
greets
chris
3G. working like a charm
easy settings
Name : Orange 3G
APN: internet
the rest is blank
hmmm but so i have to buy also a Orange card.
and I am living in Medias.. we dont have 3G here.
will it also work just with GPRS
and what dataplan do i have to buy from orange for a prepaid card.
do you know?
greets
chris
GPRS is working too.
for a prepaid you only need to activate internet and the costs are taken from your credit.
you can use it at least till we figure out the VF settings.
Thanks for your help.
so i guess my wife has a orange (have to look later)
does she had to activate internet plan or so..
or is it enough when i just place it in my card and make
apn internet?
anyhow.. also your profile and HP is interesting. what are
you doing for business.. we can talk about also
privat at: [email protected]
thanks again
chris
GREAT !!
just bought a Orange Card and now works like charm...
thanks for your info.
greets
chris
i managed to solve the problem
settings are like this:
Name: Mobile Internet
APN: internet.vodafone.ro
User:internet.vodafone.ro
Password: vodafone
everything else is blank
hope this helps
I use my (unlocked) G1 with Vodafone Romania using these settings:
Name: vodafone
APN: internet.vodafone.ro
Username: internet.vodafone.ro
Password: vodafone
MCC: 226
MNC: 01
(all the rest are not set)
Works perfect using 3G or GPRS (depends on the covarage)
Hope this helps...
I have not managed to use Vodafone Live. Does anybody know if the G1 is compatible with Vodafone (RO) live? What are the settings?
i'm not sure if the G1 one works with Vodafone Live! but if you're not on prepaid you can go for a data plan of 500Mb/month @6EUR/month
I know this thread is old but im going to bump it because i have a question.
I dont have a G1 but i do have an incredible 2 which is GSM capable and unlocked. Im going to romania this summer and was wondering if the settings are the same?
Also, can someone over there tell me how much it would be for a monthly card? most important to me is internet over there, I dont know if unlimited exists but i would prefer that.
Multumesc foarte mult.
after putting in the sim card of whatever company they have out there you would need to update your apn to allow for data use. double check what frequency their cell company uses as in gsm, cdma, and what band(s)
I understand that. Was just wondering if the apn settings posted earlier still apply..

Hi all,
I've searched the forums and the internet but i couldn't find the answers. I just signed up for the sidekick prepaid plan and I want to get it to work with my rooted G1. I've heard of people that are able to get it to work but no actual tutorials. My main problem right now is that I'm not getting any internet. what APN settings do I put on the phone? I also get an error saying I can't login to the google servers. how do I log in? My Att sim works but i just want to use the prepaid plan thanks everyone.
I had a friend with a prepaid sidekick plan and I rooted his G1 and he could only use net services thru wifi
Hey thanks for the reply!
i actually figured out what was going on. I had WisyncPlus running and it was automatically disabling my APN's even after booting. So if you have WisyncPlus make sure to uncheck the disable APN button. FWIW, here are my APN settings:
APN: hiptop.t-mobile.com
leave everything else blank
Username: dummy
Password: dummy
MMS protocol: wap 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
So anyway, It's running smooth and i can get 3G too! all for $1.00 a day.
Still going?
hey agentkalaw is this still working for you?
I just bought a prepaid sim today and changed it over to the sidekick plan, but my g1 (running cyanogen) can't connect to the internet! I tried using your setting but no luck.
No, it is fixed and no longer works.
thats too bad... but thanks for the fast response!
I know you can use the G1 with AT&T service, but I see conflicting information on the interwebs claiming what is/isn't working when used with AT&T.
1. Is the market working?
2. Is the new "Maps" GPS working?
3. Any drawbacks you can think of, except for no 3G access?
Thank you!

Market works fine.
Not familiar with the new "Maps" GPS...so I can't verify
No drawbacks aside from 3g. I don't have AT&T 3g in my areas anyhow, so makes no difference to me.
If you get te rogers dream instead of the tmobile g1 you will get 3g service. Assuming you are going to root the phone and install a custom rom you will have no issues with the market. Also assuming you are staying in the US and you root the dream you can get the new google navigation.
I'm not sure how smooth it would be on the dream but I'm sure it works fine.
The phone shouldn't care which network you're on. I have a G1 running on AT&T and it works fine. The only special thing I had to do (besides SIM and CID unlock the phone) was program the APN settings manually during the initial Google Account setup:
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: (not set)
Port: (not set)
Username: [email protected]
Password: (not set)
Server: (not set)
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: (not set)
works for me! ^_^ However, YMMV..
Regards,
Weasel5i2
PS: Check out this neato boot splash I flashed on my phone (see here for how):

LOL a map or a lawsuit???
Everything works very very well
one draw back is the 3G, there isn't any.
I have my G1 with AT&T and to be honest if I had a data plan, I probably wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between T-Mobile and AT&T
GG
Yeah, it's not bad at all. EDGE connection is iffy at times, but with T-Mobile I only get GPRS at my house. Everything works just as you'd expect it to.
I had a T-Mobile G1 with T-mobile services until moved to a different location, where AT&T has a great coverage and T-Mobile has almost none. Unlocked G1, signed with AT&T. G1 works fine - the only application which has refused to work is an MSN messenger.
Edge coverage only, of course.
After that, I bought unlocked Rogers Dream on fleabay in order to get US AT&T 3G service on Android based phone.
It was preactivated with Google servers, but interface was in french and I decided to restore it to default for the sake of simplicity. It was a shock to discover, that the phone did not want to connect to Google Servers for activation (AT&T APN has been created and sim card with a data plan was inserted). Fortunately (contrary to T-Mobile G1) Rogers Dream has an option to "activate later", basically gives you full access to your phone without activating it first. That what I did - went to "activate later", turned on wi-fi and activated it.
Turned off wi-fi - voila - everything works - AT&T 3G, all market applications (not sure about paid ones - don't use them), tethering using Tetherbot, etc. A bit different dialer interface, but I like it. So far, I don't need to root it and/or install a custom ROM.

Please help me get all the setting that I need to ensure that my Galaxy S can access GPRS/3G and MMS. Sun Shop and their hotline do not have any idea on how to set up this phone (so far):
Here are the things I need:
Name
APN
Proxy
Port
Username
Password
Server
MMSC
MMS Proxy
MCC
MNC
Authentication Type
APN Type
Hope someone is kind enough to provide me the info I need to make this work! Thanks!
Hi Kabayan.. I suppose you too are from Philippines..
Not everyone here in xda-devs knows mobile companies from our country namely Globe, Smart & Sun Cellular.
have you tried texting ACTIVATE to 2300 and SETTINGS to 2300?
or.. check this page: http://www.suncellular.com.ph/ecs_configure.php
Samsung Galaxy is not listed, just try to get the settings from other phones like Sony Ericsson P990i. The instructions are not the same, but you can use it as reference.
RE:
Hi Kababayan!
Unfortunately, I'm running out of options. I did all the settings I can find via the Sun website plus through the hotline to no avail.
Question: Is it possible that the GPRS is blocked to a certain carrier? I bought mine through Globe and just had it unlocked by myself via the app found in this site.
Is there anything I should place under "Server"? How about if I combine all the settings? APN Type can be placed as "Internet + MMS"...
hi.
i'm not in the Philippines anymore, but I've dealt with trying to get Sun to work on a non-Sun phone. I also have a Bell phone unlocked to a Rogers network here in Canada.
try these settings for Sun:
name: sun internet
apn: minternet
authentication type: none
apn type: internet
leave everything else blank/as is.
tell me if it works.
RE:
Thanks for all the suggestions! Unfortunately, it still is not giving me a 3G connection (and icon on top of the screen). I can make calls and send SMS without any issues.
I tried the Sun Internet APN set up above.
I also see this message "Mobile Network State Disconnected"
Weird is that when I place my Globe simcard, it detects the 3G immediately. Is there a way for Globe to lock the 3Gsignal of this phone even if I already unlocked it?? Strange indeed..
Added Details:
I have another setting that I tried to no avail. Maybe someone can send me a revised one since I might be keying things wrong:
Name: Sun WAP GPRS
APN: WAP
Proxy: 202.138.159.78
Port: 8080
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: Not Set
MMS Proxy: Not Set

MNC: 05

APN Type: Internet
I'm not sure about this but last time I checked, Sun Cellular Call & Text SIMs does not have 3G, only GPRS.. Their 3G is only for their Wireless Broadband..
Tried that with my Sony Ericssion Xperia X1 + Postpaid Sim, I don't get any 3G signals only GPRS. When I tried to manually set the 3G signal using the manual network selection, I receive a "Not Registered" message. this was just last March 2010
Some questions:
1) Are you using a Pre-Paid or Post Paid call&text sim?
2) In case Pre-paid, may load ka ba? hehe
3) Have you tried your Sun Sim with other 3G phones, and got a 3G signal and can browse the internet?
Try a Smart SIM, I'm sure they have 3G.
Another theory is, maybe Globe did some settings with your SGS so that it can only be used for their network, since SGS is sold exclusively by Globe. Just like iPhones, if you bring iPhones from other countries, you won't be able to Globe's 3G, you'll have to ask them to configure the phone for you..
Thanks again for the response!
1. I am using a postpaid line. I also own a N97 and when my Sun sim is there, it does give me the 3G logo on the upper part of the screen.
2. Hahaha.. this really made me laugh like a madman for a few secs
3. Yeah I think Globe made some restriction that even unlocking the phone for other networks will block 3G. But something is still lingering in my mind:
If they did do some block, why didn't they block it entirely I can still call and text as usual... Hmmmm...
I guess I'll go get a globe postpaid line for this na lang.
Last Question for you:
I tried the phone with a prepaid sim and also enrolled with Globe's 5 day unlimited mobile internet promo.
I can access the internet using 3G but I cannot seem to access GMAIL and Android Market using the widget and also by manually keying in the URL in the web browser. Is there a restriction with Globe? If yes, I might ask them to give me a plan that can access those. My concern is: I pay for Pxxx for unlimited mobile internet then I then find out that "unlimited mobile internet" has some minor annoying restrictions. I'll ask Globe about this but needed some advice so that I can come "prepared" when I grill down the sales rep.
Not all sales rep are technically sazzy and might just be saying "Yes Sir" to all my queries without really knowing anything.
from my own experience, best way to go about this would be to go to a globe centre and have them clarify everything there. phone reps will usually just give you the run around or hang up on you.
tip: don't mention you used it for sun. tell them that ur travelling to a diff country and ask if there will be any problem using the phone with that country's provider.
but to be honest, i dont think globe would lock down the phone to that extent. if they did, it might be firmware based customization. are you on the original firware or have you flashed to a diff one?

I just updated the firmware today. Updating it did take away all the apps I installed and my phone contacts.. I REALLY MUST REMEMBER to back up all data every now and then
I'll see if this new firmware works with SUN.... after I reinstall my apps and precious phone contacts.. i think I lost a few friends with the update
Note to self: start saving contacts to GMAIL for easy sync
Ayos! So it's a FW problem? Globe must have done something or the Open line thingy was incomplete!...
I really hate provider locks! It is better here in Singapore, there are no provider locks even on their exclusive phones like SGS!
ENJOY YOUR SGS!
nga pala, sikat din ba ang SGS sa Pinas? mahal kasi presyo ng Globe!
hope it's working fine for you bow with the new firmware.
lol at the backup... made that mistake too when i did my first flash. titanium works wonders for app backup.

Any ideas when froyo would be available via kies?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
According to Samsung it'll be by the end of September. Just cross our fingers and hope for good news.
bell mobility sells it (16gig version) for $499 CAD, plus the 12% tax, w/c is around 24k. pretty good price considering we can unlock it ourselves.
yeah, looking forward to froyo for this month. lots of news circulating that it may be on the 23rd, but i'd rather keep an open mind.
I'm thinking of rooting my phone. Any advantages or disadvantages doing that?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
head over to the dev section to get more info.
basically, rooting will allow you to install apps that need more access to the system. usually for tweaks and such.
disadvantage? probably warranty, but there's also a thread to unroot the sgs if it comes to that.

Hi guys hope you are all well and happy with all things SGS. Can I have some help on this well documented issue.
I have rooted my SGS i9000 and installed the above ROM, previously Froyo, and it works ok with one exception - I have no 3G or internet connections. Even though it is well documented I am not sure of how to solve the problem. Please, please, please help!!!!! I seem to remember something about this being caused by the wrong radio. If this is the case which one do I need and how do I install it.
Does the latest release solve this problem?.
text replies can be sent to 07827575991 please as no email on phone yet TIA
emmm... you know, when anything else fails, try to look for standard services from your provider...
Personally, I'd recommend you to use something like: Click... and then, by clicking Menu link, from popup list, I'd pick: Internet-> how to manually set up internet.
Fascinating, isn't it?
my carrier asks for no proxy and such settings
just type the name, apn and set the type as internet
I don't know how things are with O2 but with Vodafone Romania here how it is:
Apn name: put whatever u like
APN: live.pre.vodafone.com
User: live
Pass: vodafone
everything else i don't touch !
Ah and check that after u save the APN settings to mark as default ( green mark on it )
Lost 3G after system update
OK then, let's try and get a handle on this. When I contracted this phone with Tesco Mobile I was told that the supplier was actually O2 and that signal worked ok untill now. It was the only option on the phone. The only time the signal became a problem was after an OS update.
Now I have a signal again but only after I created a new APN for Tesco. So thanks for the help.
BUT.........
WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TESCO AND O2
This is from memory, and i have no idea where i got the info. Tesco are just another front for O2 so Tesco can expand into the mobile market. So Tesco may have their own customer services and such, but instead of putting out signal posts, they paid O2 to use their signal...
Lost 3G after system update
This sort of makes sense but if as you say it could be one or the other why don't they both work. As I said earlier O2 worked before I updated the os and now Tesco works and not O2. Not really bothered either way it is just one of those irritating techie things.
Thanks alot for your reply though - I'll keep an eye on my bill though.
Cheers!!!
Hello can some one please post APN settings for BSNL postpaid in India? I am not able to find it online. I called them and they say they will send the settings but I am not receiving it for some reason. I think they are getting my model number wrong.

Follow this structure. Worked in my Note when I used BSNL.
I use Asylum V8 ICS.
Now,
1.Go to Settings.
2.Click on 'More' in 'Wireless & Networks' (You can find in your settings)
3.Click on Mobile Networks
4.Click on Network Mode : Choose GSM/ WCDMA Auto
4.Click on Access Point Names
5.In APNs Screen which opens. Go for Options, New APN.
6.Fill In:
Name: bsnlnet
APN: bsnlnet
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MNC: 73
MCC: 404
Homepage (if you have any such option): m.google.com
Now, leave the rest blank.
Also unclick on: Use only 2G (Saves Battery)
Now reboot. And that's it. Jenga! Your Net should be set!
Now I don't know further since I am on Idea Cellular. I had used the BSNL Card for only a couple of days for stand by
Ok, give it a try !
Good Luck!
I tried everything and got fed up and just bought an airtel sim with a booster pack. I am just here for a 10 day visit and needed tethering and airtel seems to be the only one with a 4gb 3g data plan. Thanks anyways guys!
