the problem :
Im on o2 network, its unlocked, and i recieved texts this morning on it, but the signal is crap compared to my iphone, or any other phone, its like 2 bar, and thats only occasionaly, it looses signal and takes forever to come back (if it does), its really not handy
can anyone help me, i read a few other posts using the search on the forum, and they said something about radio ???? im guessing thats what recieves the signal, and some people tried changing the gsm, again i have no clue what that is.
OH im new to the forums , so i hi guys
hope someone can help me, this phone really is awsome

If you think you need to replace the radio, here's the Ultimate Radio Thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393182
There are instructions on the page on how to update the radio, but first I suggest you read on ROM and Radio updates on the Wiki. It'll save you some grief and worries I image.
As for why your Tilt is performing badly, it very well could be the radio because the other user perhaps was on another network, but if you find what seems like an appropriate radio and it doesn't help you might have discovered why it was on ebay.

Radio ROM's and bad signal

Hi,
I read the wiki and checked all the threads, I could not see anything which talked about anyone actually doing just a Radio ROM upgrade as the wiki says, which seems to have come from a Hermes page that no one has verified as yet.
So the problem: I find that reception is not great sometimes it shows 1 bar, but if you ring the phone it goes diretly to voicemail.
I was wondering if anyone has tried different radio ROM's and found any to be better then what I am running?
If there is then my next next set questions will be how I do a Radio only upgrade, will I have to do any of the unlocks etc etc.
ROM Version: 1.34.251.1
Radio Stack: 1.38.00.10
I also seen in some threads that people have sent the phone off to HTC and had main board replaced and they seem to report everything is ok after this, can anyone confirm that ?
I got the phone from ebay, but it is still under 1 year of manufacturer warranty, will I still be able to sent it off?

Problem with my TILT, signal....

Hi, my phone have like 4 month, and since 1 month or so, it is starting to loose the signal, every now and then I check the phone and it is with out signal (like putting it on AIRPLANE MODE) and it just only come back, if I switch to Airplane mode and back to normal mode, or if I restart it.
Any IDEAS??!?!

ok its a AT&T TILT
ROM Version: 1.57.502.2
ROM DATE: 08/25/07
Radio Version: 1.27.12.11
Protocol Version: 22.45.88.07H
Same here
I'm now with the updated AT&T ROM, but wit hthe same issues.
This also happened with the previous ROM.
At home I'm connected to my PC via USB. For some reason, in this location I have virtually no reception (ie I have 1 or 0 bars).
And many times, if I don't go in/out of Flight Mode after I leave home, I find myself without reception even for a couple of hours (ie the Tilt doesn't "recover" on its own).
I HardSPL'd my Tilt and tried installing the French radio in order to improve reception (other users in my location said it worked well for them), but found it was incompatible, and after a very stressful day (I was certain I'd bricked my Tilt) - was able to enter bootloader mode and restore the original radio.
At the moment I don't want to flash a Kaiser radio, and I want to wait until AT&T release their own WM6.1 ROM (I don't want to use a cooked one).
Further (I wrote about this in another post) - my GPS loses signal quite often, even under clear skies. I understand that this is another aspect of the radio drivers.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you.
I'd rather think it's a hardware problem. RMA...
Difficult....
I live abroad, and so it'll cost a small fortune in shipping charges, etc.
Not to mention import taxes, etc, if the IMEI is changed (eg if the device is replaced).
I live in a very poor reception area just outside of Boston. Previous to purchasing my device I would only have service about 40% of the time when I was at home.
When i purchased the Kaiser reception didn't get much better so I decided to search google and it led me to this forum. After reading many threads and asking some questions I feel that that the best radio that I've used so far is NIKI - 1.58.16.27. Now I have reception 95% of the time and GPS picks up about 7-10 satelites from my basement, crazy i know.
I'm not sure how much you been reading OP but I recommend you either learn how to flash roms and radios, or you can bring your phone to AT&T and have them look at it. However that means you have to give up your tilt while its being repaired, which sucks.
is this NIKI radio compatible with the standard AT&T ROM?
I have 1.62.502.0 and radio 1.27.14.09.
Or is it compatible only with WM6.1?
Thank you.

ok, you say it improves with niki radio!?
so I have never done this before, is it hard!? were can I find a GOOD tutorial or guide or troubleshooter in case i get STUCK??
Other thing, here were I live, i think ATT from the quad band, use 850 almost all the time, anything to say about that? it doenst matter?, maybe its a stupid Q...
But the Niki radio requires WM6.1, doesn't it?
redbandana,
Did you install the Niki radio on a WM6 Tilt?
And what ROM do you have? (ie the original AT&T ROM, the updated AT&T ROM or a cooked one?)

No signal or signal is very poor - need help

Hello to all!
First I want to notice that I'm smartphone / ppc user for more than 3 years so I think I have good experience. Before posting I spent hours and days trying to find solution for my problem.
Second, my device info (when I bought it)
SWISSCOM XPA v1405
ROM: 1.14.166.1
Radio: 1.05.02.00
BREE100
IPL- 0.90
SPL-2.05 (Now SPL-1.9.0000)
CID-VODAP110 (info 2, HTCSVODAP110IqpÞHTCE)
Now, problem description:
Last week I bought two mobile phones Swisscom XPA 1405 (one for me and second for my colleague who is newbie in world of windows smart phones).
Since I bought them I realized that one of them often search for network when network signal is not EXCELLENT. At the same place one have signal second don't have or signal, or signal is poor, no bars, just one signal dot and provider name can be seen on display. Also I wasn't able to switch band to GSM or when I switch it to GSM device freezes. After that when I turn on phone again I don't have any signal.
I tried to solve problem with refreshing original Swisscom firmware - I found link in one thread from this site (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395426)
But after that nothing good happens, radio version is newer but signal is still very poor.
After that i tried flashin my phone with other radio roms I found on this site. I was able to install only two versions
Radio Update: Radio Only 1.38 Radio Only 1.54.30.10 (I found those links in section for FutureShock's WM 6.1). When I try to install any other radio I often receive error invalid id etc. I must notice that I used SPL 7.77 and that my phone was application unlocked before I attempted to flash it (all steps for unlocking was passed successfully).
One more notice: phone is in very good condition, so I think that my problem is not hardware related.
I don't have idea what else I can do. maybe to copy whole radio & OS rom from second device which is working excellent?? Is there way to do that? I read about that for other devices but I don't know how to do it for my phone. Is that safe to do?
=================================================================
I bought phones from guy who sells second hand phones. I have only his number, which now is not available, so I couldn't return my phone
Yes I'm fool but I must live with it. Now I hope I will find solution, with your help, for my problem or my phone will gather dust in the box waiting to be dissembled for spare parts =================================================================
Thank you in advance and best regards!!!
maybe your phone have some hardware problems! repair it !

ATT Tilt- possible radio problems, total noob needs help

Hi guys, I really did search first, I promise. I have been having connectivity issues (not making calls, lost data connections, etc...) since I updated to the ATT Official Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM (3.57.502.2 WWE) with radio version 1.65.21.18. I am trying to determine if I need to upgrade my radio version. I found the thread with all the radio versions for my phone but don't know anything about them. I did get that I should try different ones until I find one that works for me. So do I need to install the HardSPL on my phone (or did the Official ATT rom upgrade do that already)? From there do I run that RUU.exe file on the desktop (or what)? It would be great if someone could put this in super simple terms for me.
Thanks in advance,
-Max
one word for your info, "WIKI"
I did look over the wiki for some time, here is my hang up. Jockyw2001 posted in an SPL thread that "SPL3.56 is part of the latest AT&T Rom which is dated June 6. 2008" So since I did the official ATT upgrade and my ROM date is 07/17/08, does that mean that I already have SPL 3.56 on my device? I can not find a post about how to determine what SPL version (if any) is installed on my device. If SPL is already installed, is there any danger in installing an older version of SPL or reinstalling one?
Thanks again
-Max

So you are saying that the stock rom and stock radio are not working correctly, no cooked roms or other carrier radios?
Did the problems start right after you updated?
Oh and your problem seems similar to the one in this thread here, well least is sounds similar to me anyways...

Yup, stock radio and rom as suggested by ATT, whom their customer service now claims they do not support WM6.1. I've never used a cooked rom and really only come here for device information and applications. I did have problems before I upgraded the rom but they have much worse since. The thread you posted is similar but they mostly talk about an "H" connection. I am in the DC metro area (USA) and get 3G all the time now, I wonder if that is part of the problem, I never get an EDGE network signal anymore.
Well... I just found THIS buried over on the ATT support forums
Clp1970 01-21-2009 10:33:16 AM
I guess we just got 3G network here. I haven't been able to make/receive calls for 5 days now. Tech support supposedly looking into issue. My phone switches bewteen 3G and EDGE constantly. Anyone else having this issue? What was the resolution? I don't want a refurbished Tilt if they can't come to a resolution (why would I want the same darn phone if it doesn't work well with 3G as advertised?) I have already drove 20 minutes to the nearest store for a new SIM card..which did no good. There isn't anyway of turning off 3G network unless I install software I have seen mentioned on this forum and well, I don't know about that...I paid for this phone to do what it said, and it isn't.

And this is the reply to it over there....

Common problem that can be either due to problems with the rollout or that the local towers cannot handle 3G as effectively or at a greater distance as the same tower could for Edge. These are some related threads and posts but there are a lot more. As noted in these posts if there is a local AT&T store run by AT&T then you might pop in and confirm some of the problems with them.

The tendency is to blame the phone but the reality is often different and that includes from customer support who offered to swap my phone several times but this obviously would not work because it affected many other users as well differing phone manufacturers and models.

Timing of it is close enough to make me wonder, but I had been using HSDPA.. But I have been getting the same problems you are talking about when the phone is set to 3g as well. The other thing that is starting to make me think its something ATT did to their network is that the OP from the thread that I linked on here lives 20 mins west of my location, and I am 15-20 mins north of DC... I may go to one of the local att stores and see what they have to say (tho that means for me that I get to flash my phone back to the stock rom )

[Q] Htc touch Diamond 3G/HSDPA

Hello
I find a problem.. I wanted to flash my shipped rom with some 6.5 rom. I unlocked spl a flashed newer radio and something went wrong. Everything seems to be ok but 3G networks/HSDPA doesnt. I have 3G icon, network setting is ok but speed is so slow. (like GPRS).
Does someone know where is a problem? i tried different roms, radios and spl a so much combinations but nothing ..
please help me and i would like to epologize for my bad english thank you!
Spirit303
my rom is 1.93 WWE shipped, spl 1.4 security unlocked, radio 1.00.25.5
It`s not advised to flash a new radio on your headset. Not to mention a new OS!
Try getting the las radio version on this forum.I did not encounter this issue , but try to F around the Settings a bit and see how it turns out.
what did you mean by unlocking the spl.......? did you flash it already with the hardspl....? well, i'm also a complete noob if compared to anyone around here;;just got myself a new Htc Diamond a couple of days ago.....but i've read the forum enough to realise that flashing a hard spl is the first thing to do if you're planning to F*** around with rom or radio flashing or anything else on ur diamond......sorry if it might sound like teaching you to suck eggs....and btw, i also faced the issues you've mentioned....3g internet slowdown..:yup, the icon is indicating H,i.e HSDPA yet the speed is soo rotten like the taste of those horrible days of GPRS.
and i solved it by flashing the latest radio available...cant really remember the version, but i'm sure you'll find it if you read the stickies....
currently running Donsalary's Sense 2.5 Lite Rom and pretty satisfied with the speed of connection and my device......hopefully you'll find the workaround for your issues
