I was looking for a true silent ringtone that I could add to certain contacts that I still wanted to know were calling but didn't want to hear. So I thought I could easily search for a "silent" ringtone. Sounded easy enough.
I saw several posts, here and on other forums, where people were looking for a silent ringtone, but the only ones I could find were the ringtone that "only kids could hear, not adults". You know the one where it is at such a high frequency that "anyone over 30ish". Well, what I was looking for was a truly silent ringtone. So I downloaded Audacity and decided to create one for myself.
I created a 30 second silent mp3 ringtone (in stereo, ). Now, I can add that custom ringtone to any contacts that I want. Since I had seen many requests for something like this on here and while googling, I decided to share with all.
And since I know how most people dislike RapidShare, I have attached the file to this post. Maybe others will find this as useful as I have.
Enjoy.

Very good, good solution.
tnx m8..
No problem, glad I could help.
I just found it weird that I was unable to find where anyone had done this before. I'm sure it has been but I just couldn't find any silent ringtones to download.
Great idea jwbrint!
I have recorded silence in the past on old phones BUT it always makes SOME noise.
Will download this now - GREAT
This is a great forum. I just found it. I am retired (old) so bear with me if I am a little slow on some things. I just got a Samsung M520 with Sprint and I want to setup a genuine silent ringer. I downloaded the attached silent ringer from this thread but the format has to be changed to something I have never heard of. I will paste in a copy of a post that describes the way the ringer has to be saved/formatted.
Would any of you younger more tech savy users be willing to convert this ringer to the proper format and attach it here for me? I am going to copy it to my SD card and then move it to the Samsung so that I can assign it. On this Samsung the ringer needs to appear as a video and then the phone will allow assigning and moving it. I know it works that way because I created a "video ringer" using my camcorder feature and this phone will allow ringers if they are "cloaked" as video. Go figure!
Paste:
Change the profile at the bottom of your program window to 3GPP2 - 3rd Generation Partnership Project (*.3g2). Change the "Destination" textbox to the place where you want your ringtone to save to. If you wish to save the property settings and destination, you can click on "Save As..." to save the profile. Now press the "encode" button. Once it finishes, goto your destination and find the file you just converted. Make sure your file is under 512kb. If it is not, lower the duration, bit rate, or sample rate. You're almost finished.
Now you'll need to transfer the converted file onto your phone memory using one of the three ways mentioned in the beginning. It MUST be in the following folder: \DCIM\100SSMED\. Look familiar? It's the same place where you store all of your pictures and videos.
End of paste.
My computer is old -- 500 meghz with 200 meg of Ram so some of this video stuff is beyond its capabilities. I am on XP. I don't know of a software for doing these conversions that runs well on under 150 meg of Ram. Open to suggestions.
Sorry to beg but if you can attach this here I'ld be appreciative. The file size has to be under 500 K so feel free to shorten the ringer time if you need to. Thanks in advance.
I am going to reading around here alot for the next couple of days. This place is cool.
it's interesting how 30 seconds of nothing can be almost half a meg!!!

320k silence .
Hello Fellas, I happen to come across this thread. Okay, help me with this. A silent ringtone? Are you trying to avoid a call? I mean do you set a ringtone for everyone else? Not trying to make fun just trying to understand the rational.
It comes in handy if you have a particular person (or persons) who call you on a regular basis, but your phone cannot ring... like when you're in a meeting.
it also helps if you want to have an sms notification but not a phone call notification
Thanks!
Great help for wrong numbers.
I get calls from an old lady who cant figure out how to reprogram her speed dail.
thanks!~!******
Thanks
I just downloaded the silence...ahhh...and applied it to a friend who calls WAY too much each day. Now if I could just stop this person from leaving me 10 messages a day on voice mail, arg!
Thank you so much!! I've been looking for this forever!! It works so well ^^
Thanks for nothing!! LOL
This is a very useful alternative of using commercial programs that can auto silent the blacklisted people, etc.
Smart!

Some call filtering applications are slow, so that phone still rings once before being silenced. SPB Phone Suite 1.3.1 is like this. If you know of one that does not have this problem, please share
And thanks to OP for the silent ringtone!
thx for sharing
awesome. thanks
The best ringer ever!
Does anyone know the name of the Tilt's calculator image files? I need to know what the names of the portrait and landscape files are for the calculator. These files would be in the .png format, and they would likely be in the Windows folder on the phone. I know that, on the 8525, the files are called spbcalc_L and spbcalc_P; but on the 8925 (AT&T Tilt), the names have been changed to something else. These two files allow the phone's standard calculator to display in both landscape and portrait modes. Please let me know if you are aware of these names. Thanks a lot!
That's the names of them on my Tilt. They are in the /Windows directory.

Thanks a lot for your reply. That's funny, though, because I've looked through the Windows directories of a couple of Tilts but haven't seen files with those names. I've even selected "show all files" but still haven't see them. Spbcalc_L and Spbcalc_P were no where on the Tilts that I've seen. I personally have the 8525; but most people now have the Tilt, so I was hoping to get those files from someone with this phone. I lost mine accidentally when trying to upgrade the calculator skins. Well, if you have any further ideas that may help me, I'd appreciate it. At any rate, though, thanks a lot for your reply. I appreciate it.

One more question... I know that this would be an imposition, and I feel bad asking you, but would you mind posting those calculator image files on here - if that is even possible. Or, would you be willing to e-mail them to me? Again, I know that this is an imposition and I apologize for asking. I've just been unable to get these files from anywhere. HTC and AT&T have been of no use to me, and I'm trying to avoid having to deal with the hassles of a master reset on my phone. Thanks for anything that you could do.
Is there any way how to assign specific ringtones to some of mine contacts? Even my old Motorola had this feature very useful specificaly for the people who need to be accesible by some of their contacts all the time, but can call back most of the callers later.

You can assign ringtones to contacts stored in the phone. You cannot assign them to contacts on the SIM.

How will you do that? I have no such option in menu in Contacts?
after the contact is saved, you will see the option to set a ringtone for them under their mobile phone number when editing the contact form.

Go into contacts, highlight the name, click on Menu > Edit. If the contact is stored on the phone and not on the sim, you should see "Ring tone:" under "Mobile Tel:"
Got it it.
Sorry it was stupid question, but I overlooked it always when I was checking settings. Sometimes we just need somebody to open our eyes.
Thank you.

It's no big thing. We all miss stuff sometimes.
Look at vipRingtone
I think this is what you are looking for located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328560
You could try Ringo, it allows you to use mp3s and assign to individuals and your outlook group categories. You can do the same with SMS notifications.
to be honest, i'm really surprised no user flamed you for this question. it is really too basic, you can find the answer in the user manual that came with your phone. but as someone said, everybody overlooks things sometimes. cheers!

I took joy in the fact that I haven't seen anyone ask this before. That made it worth answering without any snarkiness.
I must say I'm a little disappointed. When I say the subject of this post, and that jarek91 was the last poster, I was expecting to read some juicy trash.
But I must agree with jarek91 that I actually haven't seen this question floating around in quite a while.
OK guys, so I found that my original question was not so stupid after all. Of course I overlooked edit setting in contacts, but as I now controled all contacts transfered from the old phone, it seems like they all have already assigned the proper specific ringtone. However, whatever I do (and I tried all settings on phone for changing ringtone from none, through generic to specific) all incoming calls still have only one ringtone.
What now?
I am using 1.83.631.4 (radio 1.27.15.32) Rogers Rom (only ROM with public caller ID)
From what I remember that is the exact reason I looked around for something. As I said earlier try Ringo!

I tried, and it realy works. Thank you.
What I want is a "unknown caller" specific ringtone. AFAIK this cannot be done without additional software. Can someone please prove me wrong on this. Essentially I need a discrete call tone for no caller ID.

+1 (the rest of this is to make the message long enough to post)
hey guys.
Just a simple request to those who you have the time to do so.
I recently installed Gtrab's W4X WM6.5 Cooked Rom but didn't realise it had a lot of the ringtones included with the xperia missing.
I've searched the forums and found the odd file containing ringtones taken from handsets but they are different tones.
Could you please copy and zip all the ringtones from the Windows folder from a default Xperia rom and upload it to the internet for me please
Cheers,
Hyped
I need them too. can somebody please post them?
Thank you
Press me softly....
Thank you for your help, however, unfortunately, these are not the ringtones I need.
I'm not sure where they're saved but there are some ringtones called like Alarm1, Alarm2, Alarm3 and such. And it's in this location I need the ringtones. I think they are scattered throughout the Windows folder admist the system files.
So, could you possible collect and zip these please

Extract the rar file on your computer, connect device via active sync, once syncing click "explore" and your my documents folder should be visible, move the extracted mp3 ringtones to this folder. Hope that helps
Thx
But does anybody have also the ringtones for sms ?
There is one ringtone, i really miss on the ROM´s, but i do not remember the name
Its gonna be difficult if you don't have the name. I used dreamland on the stock rom.

I flashed energy rom so i don't have the stock ones at hand
There is a thread or two around here somewhere with a link to all the OEM ringtones / sounds etc. I'm not sure what it was titled though.
It was a rar file and nearly 38mB in size.
:edit Found it. I used the top secret 'Search' button. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=526164

sweet. thx for the help here. not that ringtones are hard to come by but there was a ringtone i really liked to use and now im used to itl lol. when there is a different tone ringing i dont always notice its MY phone hahah.
Hi all, I recently upgraded to the Cognition 4 ROM on my Captivate but I don't like any of the message notification sounds. Frankly I kind of got used to the default Captivate AT&T sounds for my notifications. As you may suspect though, I did not back up these tones so I was wondering if someone out there still has the default image on their phone (or just the tone) and could upload it to me? I've been looking all over to download it but I can't even remember what it's called. I just know it's the default sound. If you want to zip the whole directory, that's fine with me as well.
Any help would be appreciated, even if you could tell me the name of it so as I can search for it myself.
Thanks!
-maj
P.S.
I think the file name might be pause.ogg.
if someone could find this in their /system/media/sounds/notifications folder and post it, I'd be very happy!
Here, under "Cog3.02Audio. Enjoy...
