Hi to all.
My brother has a Diamond that has a problem with the internal speaker.
When answering a call, he doesnt listen to the caller.
The only way to sisten is to push the hands free swich, and then ramdomly, the external speaker is activating (the hads free), but... sometimes, the normal speaker start working like it has to be in a normal call.
I could think about a malfunction, but then, why is the normal speaker working sometimes, when he push the hands free button in the dialer screen?
I made a hard reset and nothing changed. So I changed the rom, but with no results.
I will apreciate any help
i had this last week 2 days in a row at the same point of the day.
in my case it was a WM bug that when i remove my headset in standby it sometimes keeps thinking that its still in... maybe you got this same thing?
..not in my case
Same problem here for motnhs
Hi eddyther,
I have the same problem for months now, I really tried to fix it changing roms and radios but no success at all, asked it several times in the diamond forums but nobody seems to be able to give an answer. Each time when receiving a call i can only hear the other person when pushing on the speaker (hands free) mode button. Even when I call someone I do not hear the phone sound of ringing, the phone only vibrates when connecting a call and then i have to push on the speaker mode to be able to hear the other person, very unnhandy and of course very very uncomfortable as everyone hears you. I have to say that it worked only time and it was with Cloudyfa_6.5.02 beta rom, but only once beacsue after a reinsallation it stopped working again. I´m sdesperate because everything on the diamond works perfectly except for this huge problem. I just hope that if you hear something you let me know through this thread, and will do it also, so we are at least 2/ or 3.
In a spanish forum, a lot of people described the same problem and they fixed it with the radio 1.08.25.20
My brother will try it today. I will let you know about the results.
In the meantime if you want to try, here is the link:

It doesn't work !
Nothing, oh god what can be wrong looking everywhere for a solution, theres must be something out there .... we´ll keep in tocuh ok
ok, so let's continue searching...
Eddyther, got a reply on a question I had asked on this issue and they say it can be because of having installed ones an incompatible rom, they advice to go back and splash the original rom once again, I will have to search and download the original spl and rom of vodafone , will let you know tomorrow if anything changed ok, perhaps we can get a reslt out of this or anywhere soon, because iñ really desperate.
I will try changing the mic. I found it for about 4 euros, and I have de service manual, for dissasembling.
I will let you know about the results.
About the rom , I changed it twice. I don't think the problem is there
ok let me know if it works ok, in that case please let me know where you got the mic and the manual so i can give it a try myself too !
thanks mate !
Guys, any luck? I'm having the same problem, as you can see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496058
Yesssss!!!
Yesterday I got the speaker, dismanteled the Diamond, changed the speaker, rebuilded the Diamond....and no image on the screen!!!
Opened the Diamond again, pressed the 2 connectors that are connecting the 2 main boards...., close it again...
And the speaker (and also the screen) work like a charm.
In total, 3 hours (i went very carefully), 7 euros (around 9 $), and a lot of patience !!!
So this is what I did (no pictures, sorry..but follow the service manual, that has pictures!!!))
1) got the speaker here (spanish site, but look for yours):
http://www.ssmoviles.com/altavoz-delantero-para-htc-diamond.html
It is "almost" the same speaker (but instead of 2 contacts for + and - he has 2 with a "V" form, that look like 4 contacts: anyway it feets perfectly)
2) Got the service manual, that has a "step by step" to desmantle the Diamond (with pictures) here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?jnh4f2ndyzz
(this is an alternative site, I don't remember were I find mine. If it is not ok, let me know and I will look for it)
3) normal small "star" screwdriver, plastic knife (like the ones used in the birthdays), for making pression on the main board, and small tongs
4) Followed the step by step dissassembling procedure of the manual (point 2.2)
5) Avoided the antenna cover dissassembling (no need for our purposes)
6) Arrived until page 25, disconecting the GPS coaxial cable, skiping the rest of the procedure.
7) continuig from page 26 (2nd step:"loose the power button cable...") until the 3d step (loose the volume button cable), and stoping there.
Now you can take a part the upper side, the one were the photo camera is. No need to take it out totally, only until you see (under it) the speaker, that is soft glue, and can easily be pulled out and replaced by the new one (no conections needed:it has only to be placed the same way, with the conectors facing the contacts), and assemblig everything back.
The only 2 special points to follow are:
a) being dissassemblig, and taking parts and screws out, put them in order on a paper and write their place on the board in order to avoid mistakes in the assemblig)
b) when you assemble the two parts of the board, that have 2 male and 2 female conectors, take care to gently but firmly press one board to the other in order to connect both of them (the first time I didn't press enought and the screen didn't work: I had to dissassemble the Diamond again).
At the beggining, it seems complicated, but beleave me, be calm, take your time, disconnect every connector with love, and it will be OK
c) last thing: don't look for the picture of the speaker in the service manual: it doesn't appear, but it is under the photo camera, belive me.
Good luck !!!!
Thanks, eddyther. I conclude, that is a hardware-problem since it works for you.
I think I will get my retailer to fix it instead trying to fix it myself.
You are right. I also thaught it was a soft/rom problem, but it is a harware one.
If you have guarranty, send it to repair.
It is not my case, so I decided to make a try...
brought back to SAT
Hi Eddyther, I changed mine back to original Vodafone Rom and I have send my Diamond back, hopefully they will repair it and will not see that I flashed many tims to other roms. Anyway if they won´t repair, i will give your method a try for sure !
Thanks
Good luck !!

Can anyone tell me what's going on with my XDA2i pls. It's been very stable for the past 6 months which is the last time I Sprite backuped. But last week the camera disappeared and Windows media player appeared on the camera button. So I thought I would re-install the ROM then restore from the June Sprite backup - remember I have been using the camera which must have been on that backup.
After the ROM install, the camera is there and working, but if I try to then do a restore from the Sprite backup, the camera is removed.
Thanks
Mike
search it at here, im sure you'll find any camera software to install....
if you need something great camera application, try CoolCamera at www.ateksoft.com
you can do it! Mike!
thanks
Thanks Clustered .... I will definitely try that camera app, - does it improve the quality of the images (I find them much worse than the supposedly poorer camera in my old XDA 2)
I have since discovered that the camera app is not being removed (there are still 4 camera related files in the Windows directory), but all reference to these are being removed somehow, so that the camera program is not visible in the 'Programs' section, nor is it associated with the camera button on soft boot.
I have temporarily got round the problem by placing the camera.exe icon in the SPB Today function, so at least I can get it started with the stylus
Any clues .... should I be looking at some registry entries.
By the way .... ironically I would like to reprogram the default for the camera button to scroll-down which I use in microsoft reader. Do you know how I could do this (tried Vito button mapper yonks ago but it seemed to cause quite a few problems)
Thanks
Mike
I had this, do you find the battery is discharging at a quicker rate??
The history with mine was it lost the cam function swapping to WMP on the button. Only way to cure it was to hard reset.... of course it would go and do the cam fail just when i had got everything set up and running nice for a few months. I found as it went further down the line that using the back up i had would instigate the cam error quicker than if i didnt.
It started to do it more and more. So i sent it back, they said all fixed. of course it wasnt 'cos the internal battery had discharged thus doing a hard reset clearing the error
Finaly on the 3rd return they did a board swap... which meant i had to get tomtom to re do the activation codes for me.
Load of hastle but it hasnt been a problem in 3 months now.
Aaargh ! yes that's exactly what's happening - battery running down quickly, so I just ordered a coupla new ones (fortunately didn't pay the O2 price of £39 and have ordered from Hong Kong at about a fiver).
Sounds like it isn't worth me returning it to O2, as a board swap would cost a lot - it's 13 months old now
Interestingly though ..... a hard reset puts it right, but as soon as I restore data and programs from a Sprite backup, the problem is back. And yet the Sprite backup was done back in June when I definitely wasn't having this problem. And an earlier backup does not cause it. Does it seem possible that one of the applications we are using has a time -related problem? Only thing I can think of recently was the British summer time auto correction.
Thanks
Mike
dont worry bout it being 13months old they got 2 yr warranty!!!! get it down to them now. you will get it sent off, if they dont replace the board, call the number for the repair company as soon as you get it back, tell them its doing the same (as you can tell from my post before the prob clears n they just turn it round) they send you a package and you send it off as a bouncer, give then a fault report, they will swap the board.
make a note of all yer device info, imea, mac address etc. to confirm the board has been replaced.
i put a pen mark on the warranty void sticker under the battery covering the screw to see if they went inside.... they didnt the first times it went back.
if you have tomtom you will need to scan n send them a copy of the board change document to get your codes reset, also send them the device code tomtom gives you when you try to run it. they require that. it took them about 5 days to sort out at tomtom
You know what gets me about this place is i could have just said send it back but i prefer to give folks as much explination... like i would in return.... unlike i have had on posts ive made where folks have said post it in the right section etc.... not telling me where or assuming you understand all about reg editors or rom changes..... following link from page to page is so frustrating... sorry rant over now
hope you get it sorted soon.,... wish i could get my Q's answered.
Thanks mate .... I'll do all that. Fortunately I can afford the time, as I've got a couple of working XDAII that two of our guys ditched in favour of execs, so I'll just set one of those up until they sort the XDAIIi
Thanks
Again
Mike
Me too
Hi Guys
You have described exactly what happened to me. I use a Motorola BT head set (820 I think) and the tom tom navigator 3 with BT satelite reciever.
I gave up in the end. It seemed to be due to the BT stack or somthing to do with the Tom Tom BT drivers. I have 2 xdaIIi's and I now use one as a gps only (does not even have a sim card) and the other one as a phone (with the Motorola head set) I dont have any problems.
If I try to use two BT items together..... with in about one week the moment i loose the camera and the battery lasts about 6 hours from full.
If I remember correctly the head set would stop working or lock up the phone, you then have to do a soft reset then the camera goes etc etc.
I can tell you I am absolutley fed up with BT I am yet to come across a BT anything that works first time every time. Even if it does work today, tomorrow who knows if it will work. The reason i am looking athe postings is because my new £400 Garmin Nuvi 660 wont connect to the XDA!!**!^%$!£"
Any way best ot luck, you are going to need it.
Hmmmmm .... don't think it's bluetooth, as I don't ever have it switched on - I prefer to use the bog standard handsfree speaker kit and don't use GPS/TomTom.
Plenty of things lock up the phone though :-(
I've gone back to my XDA II and ya know what .... I prefer it. The quality of colour saturation on the screen is much better - OK it's not quite as bright as the XDA IIi but the latter is not really any good itrself on a bright day.
.... and the camera in the II is just a gem - OK only 640k but the way it renders the image is just like silk compared to the naff camera in the IIi
... and I'm not really gonna miss the wifi, and I never really bothered using IE in landscape.
So I think I'll stick with the old II and see what you guys think of the Orbit (?) when it comes along
Mike
Well.... great service (eventually) from O2. They sent me a replacement without even waiting for the faulty XDA2i. Bad news is they sent an XDA2s ....but they then sent an XDA2i the next day. It's not brand new but presumably it's been 'reconditioned'.
Charged it up, did a hard reset - camera was there OK. Did a Sprite restore from a known good time (last June). But camera had disappeared again
I guess it's remotely possible that they have sent me the one that Richard (?)returned but I think he said they'd definitely done a board swap on his.
Despite the good advice on here, I'm still inclined to thhink this may be a software conflict problem rather than a hardware issue. And somehow it seems to be connected with time. I had not installed anything new when I suddenly lost the camera about 3 weeks ago. I'm restoring from a Sprite backup that definitely was not displaying any problems when I made it.
Regards
Mike
my cam issue would come back if i used a restore from a good point too. But that was on the old board. Ive just done a full clean install of everything and its seems to be ok. I did wonder is some gimp out there had writen some kind of virus that i had got somehow.
It might be the startup programs/services...
Try checking the Camera_Detect.lnk if it's functioning normally...
Although I'm really not sure if it is the cause but I have a similar problem but not with the camera...
Rather, it's the rotatescreen icon...
I hard reset and the icon is there but when I have installed programs it disappears once I soft reset... not sure which of the programs installed overrides the icon startup...
But I think it's during the startup that somehow make these services (camera, screen rotate, etc.) fail to run because some of the programs might be clashing with them on startups/bootups/soft reset...
I think you might be correct, as the replacemnt XDA2i that O2 sent displayed exactly the same problem when I put all my stuff back on it, but after another hard reset I put just a limited range of utilities back on, and so far in a week or so, it has been faultless
Mike
Ok, so the vibration on my Kaiser just stopped working one day last week....it was just after I installed MSVC so I though it was a software issue.
I uninstalled MSVC, soft reset but that didn't work. I searched and searched on XDA but couldn't find a solution. I haven't done any registry tweaking to turn off flashing LED's and I've tried fiddling with the sounds & notifications settings.
In the end I did a hard reset and decided to flash a new ROM while at it - well, that didn't fix it either.....
I found a thread on the vibration motor connectors in the Hermes forum so even though I haven't dropped my phone, decided to dismantle it (again) to have a look. Thing is I don't know where the vibration motor is in the Kaiser so I was kind of checking anything that looked like a connector......after all that, vibration is still not working!!!!!
Is the motor in the screen (rather than the back of the phone)??? Has anyone got any ideas how I can fix this??
Any help would be much appreciated - I keep missing calls when I'm out and about - and at work since I normally keep my phone on vibrate
Rgds

You may have to Warranty Return the Bad Boy.
Noooooo.....it's not under warranty
Thanks for your reply though

I just played with mine and looking at the phone from behind (screen away from you) it feels like it vibrates from the the right hand side - directly opposite the top camera button on the keyboard halve.
I found this which agrees with me as it shows the vibrate motor (Part "ME8") on pages 91/92 down that side.
This is very helpful if the part is faulty and you want to (and are able to) fix it yourself BUT if you installed software just before it broke the fault is more likely to be software related.
Which "new ROM" did you decide to flash?
And what radio version do you currently have installed (Start>Settings>SystemDevice Information)
Is your sound working OK? I ask because if not it may be due to a faulty radio. You should check this out - maybe try to install a new radio before you play with the hardware!?
Keep us posted.

Thanks for your reply - I'll check out your links, I was thinking of dismantling my kaiser again to double check again anyway.
I flashed ROMeOS v3.5 ROM but kept the same radio 1.65.16.25 - my sound has been working fine and so is my wifi, HSDPA etc.
I'll post back with the results
Well I have tried flashing the radio again - even dismantled it all again. I'm gonna have to send it in for repair - got some quotes and it looks like it's gonna cost me between £35-£55
I'll post an update once I get my phone fixed just in case this happens to anyone else....
Update - fixed!!
Well today I spoke to a muppet at an HTC call centre who asked me if I had checked that I had turned on vibration mode in my phone settings...and if I'd tested it was working by receiving phone calls....
Anyway, I didn't want to pay £50 to get my phone fixed so I opened it up again to see what I could do - I got inspired again by a thread in the Trinity forum where someone fixed the vibration by tightening a screw.
So - tonight I just fiddled a bit with the turning part of the vibrator motor then tested it by holding the battery against the connectors before closing up the phone - well it worked!!!!!
Now the vibration is back plus I saved myself some money
Glad to hear you fixed it & at no cost!

Heeeelpp !!!
I am going crazy over this problem :
I have had my HTC Diamond for less than two months and it has worked fine.
Two days ago it started misinterpreting my stylus' pointing on the screen.
It seem that the sensory-element in the screen has "moved"...
I have recalibrated the screen several times and it works for some 6 - 10 clicks.
Then the touch of the stylus is either not registered (if I try to reach something on top part of the screen) or I get results as if I was pointing between 0,1cm - 1,5 cm or more above og under (it varies) the actual contact point of the stylus (needless to say - I have given up using my fingertip).
I have tried with soft reset and have also tried the hard reset but to no avail.
It means that I can't use the phone for one thing and also, that most of the other functions are out of reach or very very hard to use because of the displacement.
Ozgur ? / Anybody ?
Chuckle
I have exactly the same problem on my wifes Diamond. Just havent got round to reporting it yet, thought i'd let her suffer a while first.

If it is acting up like mine, she must be crawling the walls by now and refusing any form of physical contact - just like the phone does ...
Mine is so bad now, that I can't call a number from my list or pick up the phone without 4 -5 tries at hitting the right spot let alone using any other function.
Against better knowledge I today updated the ROM with the new one from HTC - and it is quite evident, that is is a hardware thing.
I am handing in my complaints and the phone today.
I had the same problem on dutty's v2.2 rom yesterday. I reflashed a radio as i had problem with gps as well and it is good back again. Reflash your radio. If not flash radio and other rom. Usually HTC rom don't upgrade your radio!
Same problem here, my diamond stated misinterpreting slightly the stylus, now it's all just messed up, wherever you click, it detects the pulsation at the upper left side of the screen. It doesn't pass the calibration phase either.
I did not try to reflash the radio, just reflashed the stock SPL and original Vodafone ROM for sending it to RMA. However they are telling me that the whole RMA-thing will take AT LEAST 2 weeks. Over 15 days without my phone. I need it, that's madness! They should give the users a new phone and send the other back to HTC for whatever they want to do with it!
I think it happened after I tried playing a bad-formatted WAV file and the phone crashed. Should I try the Radio thing?
So the phone (XT860 Bell) has problems when I unlock it the screen stays black. The phone works though cause when someone calls I can still pick up as I know somewhat where the green button is. But for the rest I can't do anything.
The only way to get the phone back is to remove the battery and restart the phone. Then it works again.
Anyone else had this problem?
have you tried hard resetting it?
No will do so. But before doing that I thought maybe there is some simple solution.
After the update to 2.3.6 things went all a bit wrong I think.
If you got this after the update, I am quite confident data wipe will solve your problem. You can try wiping cache only first - this way you won't lose your configuration and might solve the problem. The update supposedly wipes cache, but maybe that didn't work properly while you were updating. Enter stock recovery and give it a try.
Hey thanks for the help. But just did a reset. Not sure what went wrong when I did the update. Did wipe. Annnnyways. Right now it's stable. Let's see if it stays like this.
Ok sadly the reset didn't fix it. It took a whole day to go black again but still happened.
Any other solutions? I am scared that it's a hardware failure...but let's hope not cause I am in Holland.
I have the droid 3 and the same exact thing is happening to me. Sorry to tell you this but it has to deal wit the connector between the keyboard and screen. I've taken mine to get checked by a "phone doctor" and they told me that. I will tell you this now ,since it is still in the early stages, it's going to get worse to the point that it will stay black. Get it fixed by a techy or get a replacement soon. Mine reached it's point today and I am going to need to get it fixed. Hope it helps.

Doesn't sound good man :-(......
Though it happened a lot the passed days since the reset ( knock on wood) only once. Do wonder why it happens less now.
Yea you can reset all you want it's going to go blank. I had to right the dial pad numbers with marker on the screen just to make calls. I say get it fixed or replaced soon
I've got the same issue here. I know the thread is old, but I'm from the Netherlands (just like eezdva) and would like to know how to repair this.

If you can't take it back and want to try to fix it yourself you need to search for a droid 3 flex cable. The one you want has the front facing camera, front sensors and earpiece speaker on it. Then head on over to ifixit for a teardown guide (sorry no repair manual yet, I plan on working on one).
I have to add that taking this phone apart to replace this part is no small feat, and it would probably be better finding a phone doctor to do it for you, or just getting a new phone.
When you buy the part, request an OEM part, I have been sent cables where the front facing camera displays sideways, or doesn't work at all. Most also don't come with the front button deflector, and that has to be transferred from the old cable.
Hope this helps
Ok . Well I don't really know what the problem is. But it went away. Actually it started I think after applying the update . I got myself another external sdcard . At a certain moment I decided to remove it and things cooled down. It now actually never happens anymore.
Well I gues you're lucky!
My screen sometimes starts all scrambled and the phone doesn't power on. Sliding the screen a couple of time sometimes helpes, but most of the time I don't really know howto get the phone working again. I think it's more stable when I leave the phone 'slided out' (don't know the right word now).
And I searched Motorolas website and found 2 reparing companies in the Netherlands. They both are authorized by Motorola, as of such I think this repair will be in warranty.
I do have to send it for repair. I don't want to take it apart because of what bitz_dv said. I'll let you know!
No Fix
When I was gone on a short holiday my college got a call from the 'authorized' motorola repair center. They can't fix my phone. I need to pay 11 euro to get it back and that's it. I tried calling them but there was no answer.
I sended my phone in on 22 may 2012 and now they decided they can't repair it. I spoke to Ted from Negri Electronics who told me to get in touch with Motorola as my warranty is still valid.
I'm a little confused, where should I go if an official repair center can't fix my phone but do tell me the repair is within warranty..
What can I do? Besides ordering the parts and take the phone apart myself..
I started my search for the flex cable... I did repair a N97 once, within the warranty period and later on sended it in and they repaired it under warranty....
Is this the cable I'm searching for:
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Motorola-Droid-3-XT862-Motherboard-Flex-Ribbon-p/mot1040660.htm
I am from Netherlands, and have the same problem with the screen, looks like many users from Netherlands do.. coincidence?
When i jst slide out the keyboard , a little bit is enough, and the screen goes black ( black screen of death ) it doesnt power on with power button.
I looked for a flex cable at ebay, and it surprised me , that cable is also doing the front camera, and speaker... My front camera wasnt working too, and speaker made strange sounds many times, so it could be that cable, but not sure.
Check my thread, i have also uploaded a video to make it more clear

Hey!
I was a happy owner of SGS+ with BroodROM (or another popular rom from this forum, I don't remember the name) till yesterday, when the internal microphone decided to stop working. Any application (camera, dialer, etc.) just receives a constant regular noise from it and that's all(this makes the phone useless as I can't make a single phone call...). I've already come back to the stock rom(nothing changed) and I'm preparing to go and replace it in the shop (the phone still have 14 months of guarantee, but before I do it, I have a question:
Did anyone have ever got a similar problem and is there a way to repair it without replacing the phone?
Thanks for any help.
I had the same problem with my S3. Just get something thin, stick it in the microphone hole and give it a wiggle. Somtime's dirt and dust can get clogged dude. Worked for me. Don't force it up though otherwise you'll damage your microphone, a little dab'll do ya!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Repaired
Tip actually got useless, because the microphone repaired itself... Anyway thanks for it, it may become handy for me in future.
The weirdest thing is that it happened suddenly and with no reason. I didn't do anything to the phone(I tested it everyday and I used it as usually) and today I have tested the microphone with camera recorder and then with dialer and it worked...
So the problem came out of blue and repaired itself (or as you say, there was some dust which fall out, although how would the dust get in the mic over night and block it, so there would be completely no input at all?) out of blue too.
Anyway, phone works again, so it is a great news for me . Thanks for help.
