Well, it only just started.

Lemmings!!!

Can't wait for this to improve. This plus an SNES emulator would make the G1 kick so much ass

Search "NESemu" in the market. Pretty solid NES emulator with a handful of ROMs already loaded. No sound of course and a bit laggy but I think that is because of the G1's processor from what I have read.
EDIT: Scratch that - I just realized you said "S"NES... My mistake

Hope some developers take use of this soon ;D
How about old school q1/qw. i'm still a big fan, and it's opengl
Might run better for this hardware
I concur. A lot of the games for Android are fun yes, but however, none of them are amazing nor graphically intensive. Establishing an engine that runs (optimized, once this one is) in Android will add another tool to the shed. Who doesn't want to play Quake on their phone anyway?

exactly, Quake III won't run well. Quake I on the other hand might... oh wait it has... the version was demoed on the G1 before release. ANd never reappeared. now it is possible with Open GL.

My thoughts exactly! It was getting roughly 30FPS running at 384mHz, imagine at 528mHz, maybe 2000FPS?!?!?!?!? haha.
that was 30 frames before any kinda optimization. so this is a real good method to develop games. and it looks great on the g1

GTA 2?!

Hi there ,
ive got a simple question for you
Is it possible that Gta 2 will come out on the G1?!
It would be so great to play my favorite oldschool game on the G1
Thanks and Bye
With some Luck you will be able to play the GTA2 Playstation version in near future with MESS
you can ALREADY play the GAMEBOY version using Kidd gbc...

i've been waiting for an update since the beginning of kiddGBC the dev claims there's a reason we can't faster, i'll see if i can find the email and put up his reason. if i remember correctly it was that java stuff was missing something
The KiddGBC developer is to silly to run native code on the G1 so his emulator uses only dalvik and so it sucks big time!
It is indeed possible to run native code on the G1 ... the ScummVM emulator and the arcade one does it!

Quake 2 for android

http://quake2-android.sourceforge.net/
looks promising and dev is offering beta testing for those who donate over $3. I dont have a paypal account, anyone test this yet?
thanks
WOW!
from what i saw that looked great!
i love first person shooters and will sooooo drain a battery if they get games like this on our android os!
Just donated five dollars, I'll post up a quick run down once I get my grubby paws on an apk
I won't risk donating for this one
The guy is the infamous Valdimir Silva - with the worst and sloppiest ports of games like Doom and Quake. I seriously doubt this one will be an exception, but we'll see. Please give us feedback if you get the app. I hope he actually sends you an apk and doesn't take donations for some vaporware or a doom WAD for Quake 2, which I remember exists. I bet his next "port" will be CS 1.6 - there's a doom WAD for De dust too

i want quake3 arena so i can play some instaunlagged on my phone
Force closing after one one run, however, during that one run, it's pretty smooth.
where do i get the pak0.pak? i'm having trouble downloaing in my area and it tells me to get the pak0.pak and move it over using cpu?
Unreal Tournament being ported to Linux is almost impossible because it uses the Unreal Game Engine, which is created by Epic Games and is NOT open source... I mean, you could get the code off some shady torrent site, but there's no possible legal way of porting Unreal Engine to anything other than Windows, Mac OS X, PSP, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Gamecube, Wii, etc...
The Quake engine's source code was released, so it is possible to run Quake now on a PSP, iPhone, ANDROID, etc.
P.S.
If there was an HTC Android phone with a full keyboard, a VERY FAST CPU, a high-res display, 512 MB RAM and some really good GPU, we'd be running Quake 3 and going to WLAN parties by now
Back to evaluating the game.
Pretty choppy on my phone. Not surprised, though.

what ROM are you on? and what phone? i'm on the HTC dream xROM 1.5r4 with about 40 apps (apps2sd of course) and my sdcard specs are in my sig. things runs smooth as hell with NO sound. WITH sound it runs a bit choppy.
G1 with the latest CM rom. I'll try it with no sound and see if that helps.
Thanks.
How do you enable sound
How do you huys enable sound. I saw there was a setting toggle while you are in game and use the menu of the application - toggle sound and toggle onscreen controls and I toggle the sound but nothing happens. Do you have to restart the game to get sound to work? A pretty damn good port btw - I regret saying bad things about the dev...
I am trying to run this, keeps F/C on start though. It ran after I first installed it but seems to hate me now.

UT is probably not the best example for a difficult linux port. "Porting" Unreal Tournament to Linux consists of installing it with the Linux installer provided by Epic themselves.

Tried and True Emulator Apps (NES, GBA, ETC.)

Hello All,
I was hoping if anyone can post their experiences using thier emulator apps.
Been using 'Gameboid' for a few days now. Im pretty impressed it runs the games it does. Sound syncing is not 100 percent but doable or you can even turn off your sound. I can confirm Advance Wars works VERY well and is a must have if you use the program. I am overall satisfied with it and hopefully will continue to see more compatibility with more updates.
**PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY GAME DOWNLOAD SITES AS THIS THREAD MAY BE SUBJECT TO CLOSE IF YOU DO SO... Thank you.
I use Snesoid religiously. Love it.
i use gameboid and snes emulator regulary buyed.
snes go well, you can play but without sound because it eat more resources.
gameboid go, but it's a little bit slow, and it's a problem when you play games like micro machines, mario etc because you have to take an immediately responce, and you don't have it
i use a dream with cyanogen mod 4.2.5

Theres a Genesis emulator out there too but I havent used it yet..
Hoping theres a few more people out there that can offer us more reviews on these apps.
There will NEVER be a game that will be an Android game as elaborate as a SNES, GBA and or NES one.. never.......

nes, genesis, snes, and gameboid emulators all work great, i've played quite a few games on all of them. scummvm is another great emulator (of sorts) and i've been playing return to zork, discworld series, 7th guest and beneath a steel sky with them.
still excited about gaming on this platform and it will only become better in the future.
If you like point & click games and missed out on many oldschool classic (or, wth, even want to play them again) i would recomend scumm. It works great on android device, especially if you have a trackball (kinda slugish it is, but for precise aming - priceless)
I've read about Android Arcade Emulator (capcom, neo-geo arcade games) but I'm not using it (those games where made for playing with mates - kinda hard on small device ), apparently it runs the more famous games without lag.
I also use gameboid. works great.

It depends on which game it is, its not 100 percent compatible yet. Also make sure the bios file is not compressed by any programs (ex. winrar, winzip and or power archiver)
Ive downloaded some games that force closes it as well. What I did was simply delete the game and threw another one into the SD card.
Report back and let me know your results and we can both figure out another solution if you cant play another game..
The best emulator out right now is ggNES. It runs NES games at full speed with sound on. No slow down, no errors, just perfect.
I like the xxxoid emulators, but the app author isn't making them run more efficiently, he's adding other stuff. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's even updating, but full speed emulation can be done, and ggNES had a free version to boot.
ggNES is a definite download and is running great on my G1.
Time to play Bionic Commando and kill me some Hitler:

Issue is, While RPGs and Tactic based games. (Yes I love advance wars) Are great on the emulators. Games like Star Sigma etc are harder.. even mario is hard. Seems action games are just harder to manage that fast paced stuff on the emulators. Anyone else notice that?
Or have they got better? Curious about the snes one tho if that runs smooth.
Edit: Just read others.. I agree I use gbaroid and nesroid and while the dev makes updates.. the speed seems to be the complaint.. but I really dont wanna buy ggnes just for speed after I paid for one.. heh..

ggNES is currently the best at playing Nes roms. Try the ggNES lite and see how it works out for you, if you like it why not buy it?
Snesoid runs good at least on my phone. Its also dependent on how many apps are using up your memory. Get Advanced Task Manager to fix that problem prior to using any emulator.
Ok Ill give it a shot. I use Taskiller pro personally. Works well I think. Unless you know something works better? Advanced Task Manager I have as well.
Maybe its decent enough to play River City Ransom. =)

There are alot of programs similar to Advanced Task Manager, yours is one of them. As long as they close unused programs it should be fine.
Hopefully you see improvement running River City with the Emulator change. Let us know how it went..

[APP] SJ7 (Sonic's Jewels 7) Master System/Game Gear emulator

Hey everyone I thought I would take the chance to tell everyone about a new emulator from Samuel Blanchard that is coming out! It is called Sonic's Jewels 7 it is a Master system/ Game Gear emulator! We have submitted it to the Marketplace and hopefully it passes certification! it should be out within 6 days! Check here http://www.wpcentral.com/sega-gamegear-master-emulator-way-windows-phone-marketplace and our facebook page for the latest info! https://www.facebook.com/WarioJewels7
Edit: SJ7 has been released onto the marketplace! Get it here! http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/apps/5031fb24-830a-40e5-b756-f08395775c87
A version with bug fixes and sound will be submitted very soon!
What's the difference between the Trial and the Full version ?

I am looking forward to when you release it!
There was some great master system games/Game gear (Phantasy star, one of my all time fav games) and there was even a version of Sonic for the master system (if you have the complete cart it's worth some good $$, they are pretty rare).
Personaly I would love to see a Genesis Emulator more but, NES is just getting complete now (vNES light runs awsome now my my 1st gen device) NES/Master system are on the same level 8 bit.
So Next gen should be SNES and Genesis. You also run into a problem, more buttons are not easy to do on a touch screen.
I do look forward to testing this version, as long as it's running at full speed with sound on a 1st gen device then I would be something I am am interested in.

I grabbed it too, Phantasy Star, just epic. Sorry but, the missing sound really kills it.

Is a GBA emulator totally impossible in WP7?
GPSP, a GBA emulator for Symbian S60 v5 on my old Nokia 5530 worked pretty well...
With sound you'll loose one or two frames (depend of the game and your device) but it's always playable and much more immersive
I've making some test with a GBA emulator. it works but it is very slow. You must understand that "normal" Apps and Games on WP7 running on a virtual machine and not access directly the CPU. This is a bottle neck to develop apps who needs all the power of CPU.
Again, When will the update with the sound be out ? Can I expect it in a few days or a few weeks ?
Also, can you get your skydrive support to sync game saves too ?

I understand, but can't you also offload some of the work to the GPU? I'm just wondering, hope you can manage a working GBA emulator on WP7!
Also, if I could make a recommendation, controls would be much better if they were dynamically placed in relation to the position of the fingers.
A perfect example of what I'm talking about are the controls in the Xbox Live "Z0MBIES (on the ph0ne), the "Relative Controls" option in the settings. I can't play without that option, and Sonic's Jewels would be much better with that setting!
it seems the store rejected it . it the app opensource ? or can you tell if it's a 100% C# application ?
