So i just got the Tilt last week. Been using it every day and would say that I am in pretty good understanding of how it works.
My understanding:
Screen dim is set to 10seconds - Meaning after 10 seconds of no use screen will dim (wont be as bright) this works perfectly every time
"Turn off divice if not usef for 1min" - From my understanding it should turn off the screen after 1 minute of no use and shouldnt come on unless I press the power button on the right.
This is where I am having issues. It wont turn the screen off.. it just stays at dimmed.
First let me explain how i have the phone set up since I think it has something to do with that.
I use it for phone calls, email (through Exchange), and text messaging.
Ive tested it a couple times and the screen turns off just fine if I have direct push (email feature) turned off in the Comm Manager.
However with the Direct push ON it seems to not wanna turn off... just dims.
At first I thought... well maybe it cant get email pushed to it if its turned off... but nope, if I manually turn the screen off (by pressing the side button).. and email myself.. sure enough the phone comes out of the turn off state and tells me I got an email... same deal with texts.
So I am dumbfounded. What is not letting it turn off the screen? The only thing that is running in tast manager is ActiveSync.
Thanks in advance for any help
Where do you leave your 400$+ device that it is unattended for over a minute? Mine is out, on, check mail, off, back in pocket.
it has nothing to do with being unattended... i just feel like i should be able to..
Pick it up -> Turn on -> Glance for new emails -> Put it back down.
Without having to turn off the screen every time... seems like it should do that on its own.. otherwise it would be kind of pointless to have that auto turn off after 1 min function.. right?
So... since that function is there.. and its not doing it.. that means something is wrong. so im trying to figure out what is wrong.
It could be a lot of factors so its going to be time consuming to find the exact cause of the problem. Not sure if your willing to hard reset the device to attempt troubleshooting from a hard reset with no other programs installed to rule out the ROM itself your using or if its third party software or possibly other changes/tweaks you might have made.
I know it works as it should for me with the Q-Mobile 1.2 ROM. Both the dimming and device power off setting work fine. And I have Push email enabled so activesync is always connected.

Some of us have a life...
I have the same issue... stock ATT rom, with lots of stuff on it. I'm pretty accustomed to using the power button to turn off the screen when I'm done. All 3 tilts I've had have this issue. I know it also happened running the stock HTC rom.
I am interested in a solution if anyone has any ideas.
I believe I had the same problem. There are two places to change the dim settings. One setting is under:
Settings\Systems\Power\Advance
Another is under:
Settings\System\Backlight\BatteryPower.
At that point I would make sure all these numbers match up that way you know it will dim and shut off at the correct time. One time is to dim, the other is to shut the screen off. Hope were talking about he same problem, and see if that helps.

This works for me, I set them all the same and the screen dims and turns off.
Thanks much!

Welcome. I had the same trouble, as I was irritated that the screen would shut off at 1 minute. Sometimes programs or installations take longer then that and with Wifi it can disconnect. Glad I could help.
The problem is related to Activesync and Exchange direct push.
I had the same problem. As long as Activesync is connected to Exchange the phone does not enter standby.
Try disabling direct push and kill activesync and then see if it works.
I had to configure activesync to check for mail every 30mins instead of direct push to work around the problem.
If anybody has direct push and standby working please let me know. I'm sick of this workaround.

Excellent.. changing the setting in both of the places mentioned above to 1minute fixed the issue.. now i have direct push and active sync on.. and it turns off after 1 min yay
Just curious, anyone have any problems with their screens turning back on after being off? I'm pretty sure this is related to my check email interval. Its not a problem for me anymore since I've been using slide2unlock, but before then Id pull my device out and all kinds of programs would be running...but I still get awakened in the middle of the night by a bright screen if I do not put my phone face down on my nightstand.

No problems here. I'm using my own ROM however.

I've had that. Mine's related to SPB backup which runs at 3AM. Also, pressing any key brings this device out of standby as opposed to my Hermes where only the power button would do this. I don't really like this "feature" much as I now need to have keylock enabled to keep the phone from waking up.

Hi:
I hope I understood your issue correctly.
If you want phone to ONLY wake when you push the power button, you need to go to Start/Settings/System/KeyLock There, select the first option, which is lock all buttons except power button.

That is really strange. I'm using Dutty V3 and just tried activating Direct push. Setting Backlight and power timeout to one minute. After leaving the device for one minute the screen dims but does not enter standby.
If I kill activesync it does enter standby but Direct push stops working.

This issue has plagued me since the Droid 3 (didn't plague my T-Mobile HTC devices such as the G1, MyTouch Slide, or G2)...
What I want:
Hold the volume down button and the volume goes from max down to VIBRATE, and then down to silent (if you hold it long enough).
What I have:
Hold the volume down button and the volume goes from max down to VIBRATE or SILENT (depending on audio setting).
I am currently using a sound profile toggle, but that messes up my notification settings. Is there any program out there that you are all using that works as I want it to work?
When I sleep or am at work, I need silent.
When I am in other "quieter" locations I need vibrate.
When I am out and about I need the settings at their loudest.
Why does it not work this way out of the box? Why must we choose between silent or vibrate.
did you try just passing the volume down button multiple times instead of holding It?

Yes. Does this work on your phone? Does it go:
Silent > Vibrate > Volume Minimum to Volume Maximum?
Ok. I admit, it does not. I seriously thought it did. I think Motorola made the vibrate setting an option instead of having a vibrate mode, so the phone is simply either on sound or silent.

Check out settings profiles lite, it won't be exactly what you're looking for by using the volume key but the end result should be the functionality you're going for.
I have three profiles right now on mine, they're easily toggled from a widget on the home screen. I have: Work - all silent except ringer (wife calls me on that line rather than a work line) Church - all on silent/vibrate and then Normal for outside of those other two scenarios. You can configure it to do other settings as well, but it'd at least do the basic you're going for.
I just use SilentToggleWidget. Kind of a pain, but this IS the sort of problem that can be solved by careful application of CyanogenMod
I gotta say that Blackberry at least did that right, yeah I said Blackberry!
I'm in so many situations where I want it to know someone called/txt'd but I don't need it to interrupt conversation with a ring. Seems like it should be standard but even my D1 couldn't do that.

Indeed. If we get fastboot files soon, I'm going to try to see if I can manage to make a port of CM 7.2 until we get CM9 running stable, but at this rate, it looks like we might have a pretty stable port of CM9 first.

Actually, it COULD. Then they updated the software, and the ability went away ...
Of course, then I installed CM and got LEDs when the screen was on AND my silent/vibrate options...

Yea, at the moment I'm waiting on fastboot files until I start flashing away. The work everybody is doing at the moment is great, but I need the phone for work, so... it needs to work!
I'm using Zeus 6.11. This is perhaps a "feature not a bug" but I'd appreciate an explanation from those who know!
During a call, the screen detects when it is near something (a face!) and switches off. Great - but when I need to input numbers during a call, it keeps switching the screen off when I move my hand near it.
Is there a way to disable this so that I can input numbers during a call?
Thanks, and sorry for the stupid question if it is one (it probably is).
just try not to block the distance sensor which is next to the front camera(including ur hands and fingers)...the screen will light up automatically..

Just make sure you don't have the "Settings->Accessibility->Power button ends call" checked
It took a day to figure out why pressing the power button ended the calls, i forgot about this option and there was nothing related to it in the Calls section.

Which rom are you using? This bug is present in some roms.
Think Im using this: [ROM][4.2.2]RunnyCM AOKP MR1
Also something I noticed is that sometimes when I press the 'power' button to turn the screen ON, I see that the phone is turning on like it was turned off by itself...

Hi. I have similar problem on "[ROM][AOSP JDQ39E][cfX 4.8.1-toolchain] OFFICIAL codefireX" but it screen goes black when I'm trying to phone someone or when I answering the phone, also when I'm trying to make voice call on skype. Any solution for that?
Another problem that I have with all of the roms is when I'm trying connect to a wireless network at work, phone is getting in a loop of rebooting untill I will get out of the wireless network range or manage to disconnect from the network but at home and anywhere else connects without any problem... Any ideas?

I've solved a problem with Proximity Sensor - there was little bit of dust so I've lifted the screen where sensor is and I've blowed some compressed air. I would like to disactivate this sensor but Proximity Actions "Play" doesn't work for me somehow.
My main prblem now is the rebooting issue when I'm trying to connect to wireless network at work.
If I set my phone's ringer to "Vibrate" or "Silent" and I accidentally trigger my Touchless control, will the phone make a noise? For example, if I am sitting in class or in a test, I would hate for my phone to accidentally make sounds.
Is the sound of TC tied to the phone ringer volume or the phone's media volume? If it's tied to the ringer volume, I can quickly silence it when needed by just using the volume rocker buttons right? If it's the latter, I have to go into the volume settings and change the media volume to silent?
(Google Now used to be tied to the phone's ringer volume; it is now tied to the phone media volume. Any way to change this too?)
Don't say the hotword. Fixed. If TC is going off randomly for you, you should probably retrain the recognition.
I really wish Google now had its own volume control.

Go to Toucless Controls in settings and uncheck "Launch Phrase Sound". That way it won't been when you trigger it.
Mine also triggers frequently at the mall.. gonna try re training it. Given, I did trick it to activate on "Ok Google" instead of "Ok Google Now" lol.

However, after you launch it, if the phone continues to pick up words and decides to start googling or calling someone, it will still continue to make noises.

I think sometimes it may jut trigger from ambient noises. Still, there are situations when you absolutely do not want to risk your phone going off: interview, movie theatre, exam, etc... I know you can shutdown the phone, but that can sometimes be inconvenient.
Speaking of which, is there a reboot function anywhere? I can only find power off. It's sometimes annoying when you want to reboot your phone and walk away and come back, but now you have to wait for it to power off and then manually power it back on again.

I've not had my phone, ambient noise or otherwise, respond and start doing touch less controls unless I've said OK Google Now. I'd be interested to know why yours does. i.e. can I make mine more sensitive? (because sometimes it doesn't even respond when I say OK Google Now)
As for reboot... I'm not aware of anything on the stock X. If you are rooted, there are Xposed modules to give you the "4 option power menu" thing of the old days.. And there are apps like Quick Boot (Reboot) which will reboot your phone normally (works like power off/on reboot), to bootloader, to recovery, or to power off.

Is there any reason why Google took away the 4 power menu option and took away the Reboot option from the power menu?

I don't know. I had HTC for a while there, and thought it might have been an HTC Sense thing, or an added hack that I did.
I know there was a "restart" option on the menu, but it didn't shut down and reboot the phone, it just restarted some of the services/features, not a true reboot.

Nop. Yesterday it was happening while I was on the bus in the back seat which is in front of the engine. No one was talking.
Like I said, it's because I tricked it to record my launch phrase as "Ok Google" instead of "Ok Google Now". If I do it the proper way I don't have issues.
Can't believe didn't think of this: just turn off Touchless Controls when you need the guarantee of silence -_-
Or make yourself in a meeting using Assist
