Will upgrading UNLOCKED change it back to LOCKED - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have the kaiser (htc 8925) 6.1 upgrade and was going to flash my phone with it. I am afraid however it will relock it.. Is this a possibility? Is going from 6.0 to 6.1 even worth it? I also have some special communication settings configured so it will work with TMOBILE, would I lose those as well??
Thanks!

1.) No, once unlocked always unlocked
2.) No, unless it is a 6.1 custom rom
3.) Probably if you don't upgrade with a T-mobile rom or back up your settings, but I would write them all down anyway just in case so I could put them back manually.

I bought an unlocked AT&T tilt with WM6 and flashed WM6.1 and it remained unlocked.
So don't worry.

Unlock with new ROM?

I upgraded my T-Mobile MDA to the newest ROM and everything is great... now I want to do the same for my Cingular 8125 except that I need it unlocked for use with AT&T. It's running good with the stock ROM and it's unlocked... but I want the newest ROM on it.
Question is, how can I upgrade to the newest ROM and be assured it will be unlocked? It's a phone I use A LOT (!!!) so if it can't be unlocked after I do the upgrade, I'm screwed.
Thanks!
I thought once unlocked always unlocked. i upgraded my 8125, but i also use Cingular's service.
I need someone to confirm that then, I can't afford for it to be locked after the upgrade... and the upgrade should fix some of the problems I've been having.
SIM and CID unlocked my MDA Vario with Lokiwiz and after that installed 2 different ROMs and it still unlocked...
what do you need to be unlocked specifically, what ability do you need, and I can try it on my phone possibly.
I want to be able to make calls with my AT&T SIM card, and I'm using MMode for internet.
Well, here goes nothing... thought I'd just hope it works... 1% done so far.
Worked great, thanks for the suggestions guys
good to hear.

Cingular 8125 Questions

Hey gang.
Sorry if this is a dupe somewhere but I tried to look around and could not find this information.
I have an 8125 which is unlocked. I am finding the device slow and am told the new upgraded 2.x rom fixes much of the speed issues.
What I couldn't find was, if I install one of the rom updates, is my phone now locked again and I have to manually unlock it myself?
If it remains unlocked, I was thinking of installing the following:
http://www.cingular.com/midtolarge/microsoft
Is this a 2.x rom?
Also I am on Rogers GSM network, do I have to redo anything as far as text messages, phone etc? It's a new phone so I have no contact list etc.
Just want to make sure I'm not getting myself into a bricked phone before I do it
Thanks and take care!
once u unlock it, its always unlocked.
That is the 2.25 ROM, official Cingular release. You don't need to be unlocked to upgrade to it though.
When you start going to ROM's like Summiter's and the Mr. Clean ROM (or even some of the other carrier ROM's), then you'll definitely have to be CID unlocked.
As far as text messaging, no. That's pretty much stored on the SIM card as far as I can tell (at least it was for me).
For your Internet and such, that you will have to likely input.
Good luck!

HTC TYTN II (not Tilt) Questions

Hello, I am going to buy an HTC TYTN II Unlocked phone. I am now using an ATT 8525 on which I installed the HTC TYTN rom with WM6. I unlocked the 8525 using the Hard/SPL and SIM/CID unlock. My question is, since the TYTN II I am buying will be unlocked, do I still need to do the HARD/SPL and SIM/CID unlock to make the phone work on multiple carriers? I don't think I will be playing around with any different roms on the TYTN II since I heard it is a good rom, so my main question is about the SIM issue.
Thanks, sorry if this is a stupid question.
nope. its an unlocked phone by default if you buy it htc branded, so you don't need to do anything to sim unlock it, it'll just work - just make sure you let it set everying up properly when you turn it on for the first time
If you are buying an "unlocked" phone, it is SIM unlocked. That's what makes it possible to use it on any GSM carrier.
You only need to flash HardSPL (CID unlock the phone) if you plan to flash ROMs. That being said - the HTC ROM is decent, but not up to par with what the pros are cooking up here. I was hesitant to flash, so I used it for the first week. When I started flashing, I never looked back. They take the best from the stock ROMs and improve upon it (particularly in the speed and performance arena). FWIW.
Hey thanks for the clarification. I guess I should consider using a cooked ROM like I did for my 8525, what a difference it made to use the TYTN rom. I know there is a link for the HardSPL, so all I need to do is flash that to the TYTN II and I can use any rom I find, right? What about the issues with the drivers for the TYTN II, do any new roms address those issues? If I flash HardSPL am I then forced to immediately flash a new rom?
Is this the link for the HardSPL for the TYTN II?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
I don't need to run the SIM unlocker obviously, right? Just HardSPL?
What about SuperCID and Security Unlocker?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361236
Do I need to bother with this?
Hey there. What if I do the SIM/CID unlock on the TYTN II already unlocked phone? I remember that I had to do that on my 8525 before I could do the HardSPL. In other words, should I do the SIM/CID unlock and then do the HardSPL??
Thanks!
SIM unlock and CID unlock are two different things. If you are buying an "unlocked" phone, it will be SIM unlocked and you don't need to run anything. I wouldn't run anything SIM related (like the SIM unlocker that was released), just so you don't cause an issue. HardSPL (which will CID unlock your phone) will not force you to immediately flash a new ROM...just gives you the option to. Does not affect the current ROM you have on it. So there is no confusion - you should be looking here for info on HardSPL. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679 If you have any issues with the HardSPL, there are several stickies and many topics related to problems.
I have not used SuperCID or Security Unlocker. As such, there is no need to in order to take advantage of custom ROMs.
Again...don't mess around with the SIM unlocker if you are buying an "unlocked" phone. You do HAVE to run HardSPL before you try to flash a ROM or radio or anything. However, once you flash HardSPL you do not HAVE to immediately flash a ROM or radio.
I highly encourage you to read the wiki and the stickies more than once before you start messing around with this stuff or if you are even slightly confused. The standard ROM isn't so bad that you have to run out and flash the first day if you are not comfortable doing so. Good luck.
I'm getting a locked ATT which I'll be CID unlocking as well as SIM unlocking. What then would be the best ROM to run for the best overall functionality etc etc
Thanks
JG
Hey thanks for the help. I am fairly conifdent about flashing roms. I did it with no problem on the 8525 and it has worked well so far. I guess I will wait and play with the standard rom on the TYTN II and then decide about changing, but I will definitely flash HardSPL as soon as I get it.
Thanks again!!

They don't like anyone to ask about which rom to use because ther are so many, you just have to decide and play around with them on your own.

What is the best religion?
Which is the best football team?
OK the last one doesnt really apply as everyone knows it is Man United but you get the idea. Everyone has their own needs, preferences etc.
Best advice is to read the relevent ROM threads and choose one that sounds most appropriate for your needs. FWIW though Duttys ROMs do seem very popular.

Downgrade to 6.0

Hello,
how can I downgrade a AT7T tilt 8925 WM6.1 to Wm6.0 I want to unlock it.
Do I need to have a sim card in the phone to unlock it?
no. but you need to run simlock.exe which is in the windows folder. All of it's right here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361039
(a la bill lumbergh) If you could just go ahead and RTFM that would be terrific.

Are you sure you have 6.1? AT$T has not released a 6.1 upgrade for the Tilt. If you are sure that you have 6.1, then it must be a cooked rom . In that case all you have to do is re-flash to whatever rom you want.

if all you want to do is sim unlock your device than the only thing you need to do is pick up the phone and call att. The will give you the unlock code with in 5 minutes. (just tell them you are going over seas and need the unlock code).
If however you want to flash a rom to your device .. than you need to flash hardspl; a simple search "hardspl for kaiser" will pull all info you need. and after that you need to read the kaiser wiki section on rom flashing.
Once you have full understanding of what you are doing than happily proceed
I look at the my Rom version and it is 1.57.502.2.
and my Radio Version is a 1.27.12.11
So is that a WM 6.1 or just a 6.0.

That is the original AT$T 6.0 rom . AT$T has not yet upgraded that rom to 6.1
If you want to unlock your phone to use on another carrier, just follow the steps on this wiki:http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser

Can someone please help me figure out what to do? Do I, or do I not downgrade before I can sim/cid unlock?
My current phone is
R 1.65.21.18
G 25.88.40.05h
D 3.57.00.00
I have already loaded the Hard SPL, and am wanting to Flash soon. I have been reading for the last 4 days, and keep reading so many admins telling us to search and read, but there is soo much info out there, that it is hard to tell what is needed.
Also, Can someone explain the difference between a cid and superCID?
Liquidd.
Just make sure you have the proper hardspl for 6.0 and make sure you follow
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
and you are done.
You really should read until your eyes actually bleed. j/k
That worked great. Thanks a lot.

Tmobile Wing (Herald) Rom for AT&T Use?

Is there a Rom that will allow the AT&T software to be installed on the Tmobile Wing (Herald)?
Also how would you be able to CID unlock this to install other software on it? I already have it sim unlocked but not CID unlocked.
Thanks for any help.
Flandrel
To CID unlock it, you'll have to use HardSPL.
What AT&T software are you refering to?

Rom or software needed to be able to run at&t, or is it not needed? was thinking of the radio, windows mobile, etc., and how would I be able to setup the at&t network (media net, network settings, etc)?
I switched from tmobile to at&t and want to have the wing as a full backup phone.
I now have the at&t tilt 8925 (kais100) with my new at&t acct and loving it.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Flandrel
I have att, all you need is a unlocked phone. You can install whatever you want. At least, so far I have had no problem installing all the software I needed.
HTH
Exactly as caribbean_spur said. If the data plan is what you're worried about, just install Network Wizard and run the AT&T setup in it.

Sounds great. Where would I get the network wizard? Hate to be a pain but tried to find it and want to make sure I got the right one.
Thanks
