Power management bug(?) in 2.03 ROMs block incoming calls !? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hello all,
I installed the official 2.03.404.2 NLD ROM on my HTC Touch Diamond.
(Radio version is 1.09.25.23). I didn't use the backup utility to restore my settings afterward, instead I installed my few applications by hand again.
I configured the phone to only use GSM, both to conserve power and costs (I have wifi both at home and in the office).
However, with this new ROM, often the phone becomes unresponsive to incoming calls. It happens often after the power management puts the phone to sleep whilst I have an active wi-fi connection using Opera.
People who try to call me then get my mailbox, even though the phone is ON and everything looks normal on the display. Crazy enough, the Diamond itself can make phone calls without problems, and then I'm immediately flooded with text messages from my provider telling me there are messages on my mailbox.
I now make dummy phone calls several times daily just to be sure the phone remains logged into the network, but this really sucks. Does anyone else experience this?

what network are you using?

T-mobile NL over GSM.
But the problem coincides with the installation of the new ROM.

I have exactly the same ROM / same Radio / same provider (T-Mobile NLD) as you have, and I don't have this problem (at least, not that I know off). I also have the phone in GSM mode almost always instead of 3G mode. So I think it's not a bug in the rom. However, there is already a newer rom available than the one we have, so maybe you could try upgrading to the latest?

I have ROM version: 1.93.720.2 WWE (Radio version: 1.00.25.07) on my HTC Diamond. I have never modified or upgraded my ROM. I face a similar kinda problem as yours. The only difference is that it happens once in a day and that too early morning. So I have to make a call to any no. to wake my phone up. This sounds funny but yeah I m facing this problem. Is it bcos of ROM version? Whats the latest ROM version for HTC Diamond? How can I update it? If I update ROM will I lose all my data. Please hlp I m new to this.
I m from India and using AIRTEL network over GSM.

@Suchit_g:
Early in the morning, you mean shortly
after pulling out the charger cable?
Sounds like a power management prob.
@Drazix: Thanks for the info about
the new ROM, I will try it out.

Hmm bobokonijn
Even I thought so but this happens even if my phone is not charging. I charge my phone once in two days but this happens almost every morning. The 1st call of the day should be made by me. If I fail to call, my callers get the unavailability message even if my phone is on and showing network signal bars. My phone starts working only and only if I use network (either call someone or use GPRS) for the 1st time in the morning and then for the rest of the day my phone works without any problems. Hope someone can help me out with this?

Calls drop

Guys,
When I got my P3600 some weeks ago I didn't experience any problems with problems with calls dropping. But ever since I've upgraded to WM6 I am experiencing this problem... the calls drop at random, sometimes I can talk for hours without any disconnect, and sometimes the call drops and I cannot even call the person back... And even after downgrading to the shipped rom, I still have this problem... That made me wonder if maybe I have had problem when I got the device but at that point I was just lucky not to have calls dropping.
Yesterday was the last time a call dropped on me. I couldn't call the person back, the phone didn't establish a new connection. When I finally got the person back on the phone (2 minutes later) he/she said that the whole time she thought I was driving through a tunnel and that I would reconnect because... I stayed connected at the other phone... After 2 minutes, she said, the connection was finally broken and that's when I was able to call again.
So sounds to me that windows mobile disconnects me and that the operators network still keeps my number connected.
Well, needless to say, I want to fix this issue. I have a 3G Vodafone NL subscription but I read that 3G could be the cause of my issue. so I've just disabled 3G. Now I'm just running on GPRS... Which isn't how I want it to stay. Any ideas, same experience/ pointers how to solve this?
Thnx. Arend
Reply from HTC
This is the reply I got from HTC:
Try to remove it off 3G go to settings / phone / band - then select GSM from the top drop down menu.
Should now reset.
If it comes up with an error, turn on flight mode then do the above again.
Click to collapse
So based on this reply it seems that 3G might be causing my issue.
I replied to HTC:
I have followed your instructions but now I can only use gprs... but I have a 3G subscription with my provider. So even if this workaround works, it's not to my satisfaction.
Pls advice.

I'll post their reply.
Further, if someone has more info on the subject please let me know.
Same problem here...
No issues before upgrading to WM6. Sometimes the call drops out after a few minutes, sometimes a few seconds, and sometimes already after a few rings. The other day I had to make a call 5 or 6 times to finish the conversation - very annoying...
I'm running the first official Australian WM6 release for Dopod/HTC, i.e. the one that got pulled off the web for a while. Possibly going to the newer release of the ROM update solves the problem? Even though I think both versions run on the same radio ROM.
I've used the same rom as you to upgrade to WM6. But in my case, even when downgrading to the shipped rom, I still had calls dropping. And like you, sometimes after minutes, seconds etc.
Still having no drops since I have turned 3G off. But I just wanted to look something up on the internet... took minutes to get the info on my screen with GRPS, so it's not much like a solution.
This is the reply of HTC:
Dear sir,
Regarding your situation with the device , I would suggest you, to? resolve your issue with the network coverage ,to practice a hard reset on your mobile with the following step:
START -> Setting->System->CLEAR STORAGE and follow the procedure, if you have already done this manipulation , I would direct you? to this service and check the right number on this area with your network ush the green button to call->then go to menu-> option ->Services->select the on the following list ->Voice mail etc-> and then get setting -> and check that the number is right with your network provider.
Click to collapse
Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, I have performed hard resets... indeed, multiple
The second action they adviced, sounded a bit strange to me. But when I retrieved the settings I saw that there was no number filled in for voicemail. So I've entered 1233 (Vodafone NL voicemailnumber).
So maybe the last action has nothing to do with my issue, but who knows.
So now I am running again on 3G. I'll keep y'all posted.
Just checked it on my device and there is already an entry under voice mail. So I severly doubt that it has anything to do with the voice mail settings, too.
No, I guess you are right.
Further, since I am running 3G my signal I noticed my signal is weaker then running GPRS-only. My calls have not dropped since but I do get complaints that people sometimes cannot hear what I say because my line goes dead, and a moment later it's back again.
I've got another reply from HTC:
---
If a hard reset didn't solve the problem and the problem only occurs when switching to 3G, than this can be caused by the following;
1. Problem with the device.
2. Problem with the network, ???
I would suggest to test your SIM in another HTC device with 3G and see what happens. If it happens again than it is a? problem with the network. If it works with that 3G device than it could be a faulty device. The experience is that it is related to the 3G network himself. If it is a network issue, than you can ask them to deactivate the 3G/HSDPA.
We can't find this out for you in the UK, you need to see if you could determine the problem yourself.
---
Thus the support of HTC.
So now I have written an email to vodafone. I'll keep you posted.
Same problem !

Ok... but I'm somewhat confused... are you experiencing the same problem with 1.41.00.11? Or did you solve the problem by flashing to 1.41.00.11?
2----> solve by reflashing with 1.41.00.11
Ok, I've upgraded to 1.41.00.11.
So far, I've experienced no calls dropping on me.
Nevertheless, I've also made a phonecall to Vodafone explaining the issue. They acknowlegde the issue... SAY WHAT?!! Yes... they acknowledge the issue and recommend turning the device to GRPS only. WHAT?!!.. Chill, they can at least try that, who knows, maybe I would have said yes.
So, I explained GPRS only is not an option since it is a tiny bit slower then what I am paying for.
They've put the call through to their 2nd line and keep me informed. So as soon as I hear something I will get back to you.
ps. What I found very great is that they did not cut it off with "Ow, you are using the HTC P3600... I'm sorry, we do not support that device." Vodafone NL, keep up this great level of support!
Ok, so far I've heard nothing from Vodafone. And so far I have had one call that dropped. So although that is a huge improvement, it still sucks.
So... now what? The way I see it:
1. I want to have fast internet on my PDA (3G), so only GPRS is not an option
2. There are problems with the 3G network which make calls drop every now and then
3. Vodafone isn't going to fix this in a short period of time.
So the question is: what is more import to me: 3G or a reliable phone connections?
The answer is: reliable phone connection.
So I will switch my network to GSM instead of auto and when
I really need fast internet I will switch to 3G.
Case closed... well, not really... but still, case closed.
Hi
I think is not the operator problem and could be the phone problem, I am using the D810 in Singapore with Starhub and have the same problem with drop calls once I use 3G network. If I switch to GSM only than is perfect no drop calls and calls quality improve also.
So sad having a 3.5G phone and can't use 3.5G service
Could be, but HTC and Vodafone confirmed me that it has to do with the 3G network. And I do not want to know the technical details about all that so I'll leave it at that.

Cant Recieve Calls While on HSDPA, T-Mobile UK

Hey Every1,
While surfing the web lets say on a HSDPA connection if someone tries to call me they are automatically sent to my voicemail. I then get a text some time later saying I missed their call. The only way to solve this is to not use the internet and then disconnect the data session by clicking the h in the top bar.
Ive been searching through the forum and on the web in general and have seen this problem mentioned in regards to vodaphone but not t-mobile. In fact with t-mobile I have read that it should/does cancel the data session automatically to allow for the call or drop down to 3g so that call can be taken.
1) has anyone else experienced this problem?
2) if so is there a soloution? The only one I can think of is to disable hsdpa in the registry or set connections to cancel data connections after a small period of inactivity.
This is kind of frustrating when ure trying to find a friend and using google maps and he/she cant call get hold of u cos it keeps going to voicemail!!
Any help/other users on t-mopbie uk commenting on whether they suffer from this problem would be appreciated.
Im running standard tmobile radio (1.27.12.32)
Thanks
I'm using the 1.27.12.17 radio, and can make and receive calls when on an HSDPA connection. I'm on T-Mobile, too. Possibly change the radio and see if that makes a difference?
I get the same problem when using data on the HSDPA connection. When using 3G, the call will go through.
According to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321596 it is likely to be a network problem. Is it worth asking T-Mobile about this? Are people on other networks having this issue too?

Is that radio a standard t-mobile one or did u flash that ureself? Thanks
Did a bit of diagnosis and further reading on other info from other sites.
It appears I am not alone, and unfortunatly the information is varied some saying its networ and other the phone.
Its not just HSDPA but 3G to, if ure doing some data donwnloading it wont allow u take a call. The only way to have data and the ability to recieve calls at the same time is using standard gprs, which kind of defeats the purpose of having this phone in the first place. Here are some things i tried.
1) HSDPA ON - tried looking at some pages and whilst i was downloadin called from my other mobile to my kaiser, no luck took a while then went to voicemail. Once it finished downloading and it was inactive (but ie still up) it dropped down to 3g and accepted incoming calls. Also i tried to make a call while surfing and it worked fine. When i then rang from a 3rd phone whilst on the call i made it recieved it in hsdpa mode no probs (call waiting).
2) HSDPA OFF - Same as above to be honest not even worth dropping down as u cant even tell if it will accept calls as it just says on 3g rather than dropping down.
3) UMTS OFF - Works fine recieves data and make and recieves calls.
This is really annloying as it defeats the purpose of having this phone. Im quite happy to not surf and talk at the same time but i dont want to miss important calls. Id really like to know if any1 else is experiencing this problem and what they did about it, whether it is indeed network specific or a problem with me/all kaisers.
This also means u really cant have skype and or msn signed in all the time as it wont auto disconnect when a call comes in.
Thanks

oh one last thing, when u flashed the radio rom did put a different software rom on it e.g. from t-mobile to htc original? As u had a radio file did u bother to sim unlock...how did it go...
Sounds like i might just flash the radio rom to see if it cures the problem and might aswell sim unlock it at the same time. Just curious to know ure experiences

Someone on T-Mobile please comment.....
Hi,
I'm on T-mobile UK, I'm on the standard WnW so dont have the HSDPA, but I did have the same problem on 3G, couldnt take calls while surfing.
It was bugging me as hell. After some research (out here and on some other forums) I tried the bandswitch app to change the band to GSM (it was on 'auto') and it worked. After a couple of days, I uninstalled bandswitch and reverted to 'auto' again and everything worked fine. I havent had problems and its been over a month now.
Regarding sim unlocking and CID unlocking, I've done that recently. I was on radio version - 1.27.12.11 and am now on 1.27.12.32
just waiting for a good stable 6.1 rom and will flash then.
hope this helps.
cheers
Thanks Koowdewil im gonna give that a try
Do u know where i can find the bandswitch app that you used???
here: ??? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844
I emailed T-Mobile about this and here is there response:
Dear .....
I am afraid this is normal for this device. When you are browsing the web and the page has already loaded then the call will come through as normal. However if the device is still in the process of downloading the site then the call will go to voicemail. I am afraid there is no way round this issue as this is the way it has been designed by the manufacturers. Please contact us if you have any further queries. Thanks.

Stephen
T-Mobile
Yes, you could try there or just google it, danielherrero is the developer. I've heard about t-mobiles response but after switching the mode to 'gsm' for some time and then reverting back to 'auto' I havent had the problem.
Thanks so much gonna give this a try
I'm on T-Mobile UK and have flashed Duttys new 6.1 ROM and am experiencing this same issue. any ideas which is the best 6.1 compatible Radio for T-Mobile Uk?
Funnily enough I have started badgering T-mo UK about the 6.1 update already and they have started using there normal excuse of doing heavy beta testing compared to other CPs.
Typically ignoring them I am awaiting a response from my contact on the inside about the 6.1 update release....
With regards to the Call/HSDPA/3G issue I cannot say I have experienced this however 90% of the time mine is fixed to GSM lol
I've got a 3 PAYG sim and TM contract. Just tried this with 3 and call came in when streaming with realplayer and loading internet page no problem.
Same with test with TM too.
Using Duttys 6.1 with 1.64.08.21 radio.
Im on T-mobile UK with webnwalk and having no problems with this, I used a tweak to enable hsdpa/3g on continues so its always ON...
I can still recieve calls while using the inet at the same time.
Hi everybody, I am using GPRS and facing the same issue; No incoming call while GPRS is on... so any idea ?

Unable to make a call in GSM network - works in 3G

My TyTN II is no more than one month old. Radio and ROM are all stock and I never tried any custom ROMs nor did I install hardSPL on it. The problem is all of a sudden I can't make any calls. If I dial a number it just says Call Ended following with couple of silent beeps. If someone call me they got to my voicemail. The strange thing is that after couple of retries, it works, I can make a call but then after another try, it stops working again.
In all that time, sending and receiving SMS works normally.
And now the very strange part of the problem. If I switch to 3G mode, everything is ok. No problems at all. If I switich back to GSM only mode, the problem is back.
I've contacted HTC in my country (I'm somewhere in Europe ) and all they can say is, hard reset your phone and if that does not work, send it for repair.
I consider that a valid response and I'm about to do just that but before I go and erase all of my applications and settings from my phone (which will take me ages to get them back) I was wondering if someone has previous experiance with this sort of a problem and if it can be fixed without hard reseting the phone.
I have the same issue but when I turn G3 mode ON. I can not make call with auto G3 mode on (I have to try a lot of times to make a simple call). If I use only GSM its works ok.
Zol
I have the same problem, i cannot make a call on 3g network only on GSM. I took the phone to the service and they said i had to change the motherboard it costs ~335 EUR. F*ck
Can anybody tell me an alternative solution?

Cingular Radio Question - Cannot Receive Calls

I have the Cingular 8125 version of this phone and over the past few weeks I've had one nagging issue with the phone. I cannot always receive calls (The 'E' symbol to the left of the bars turns into an X sometimes, or sometimes it even boots with an X there. I can make calls but not receive them when this is the case)
I'm not sure what it could be. I went back to the factory ROM from HTC, and it seems to work better than a couple other ROMs, although it just acted up again (after about a week of behaving nicely). If I clear storage and make it fresh again, then it seems to start working again (like now, although I'm not sure how long it will last this time).
So, could it be the radio? I have no idea what the radio actually does, but it sounds like it involves calling. When I first wanted to install new ROMs, I tried to do a HardSPL change or something following a guide here. Eventually I went back to original data, radio, etc. and now for new roms I do SoftSPL. Here is my device information - please let me know if something doesn't look right...
ROM version 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM date: 5/11/06
Radio version 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version 2.25.11.102
WM5.0 OS 5.1.195 (build 14928.2.2.0)
IPL 2.25.0001
SPL 2.25.0001
GSM 2.25.11
OS 2.25.11.1
If all of this looks like it should from the factory, are there any other ideas on what causes this issue? Again, I can ALWAYS make calls, but if it acts up and that 'X' shows up where an 'E' (or 'G' occasionally), then received calls go straight to my voice mail.
Note: I bought the phone on eBay and it is supposed to be unlocked for any service provider. I have AT&T so I do not know if it truly is unlocked (and don't really care, for now). However, I thought I would mention this in case that process might affect the information above, or if in the process it could cause a problem such as mine with the phone. I have flashed new ROMs and things of that nature several times, which may or may not set the phone back to default (locked to AT&T) - I do not know these things.
I had the same problems that you are experienceing....so I upgraded my radio to 2.71.1, and it pretty much fixed all of my problems...simply hit up Google for Wizard Radio 2.27.1 and you should be able to find it.
Just for verification (as neither are bringing results that jump out at me), which radio am I looking for? 2.27.1 or 2.71.1 ? Your answer consists of both. I am assuming 2.71. I found 2.71.11 and downloaded it, is this correct?
Next, should this not work I can easily revert back to the default radio, correct? I'm pretty sure, but just want to make sure as I haven't specifically updated the radio - just ROMs (which I believe have various radio versions anyways)
yeah man, 2.71.11 is correct, I kinda got cross eyed for a sec there lol. But yes, 2.71.11 is the one that I have been using for a good while now, and I have had no problems with it. And also, yes, you can revert back to your old Radio ROM if this one does not work any better.
Thanks. I'm about to update and we will see what happens. I will post results for anyone curious that runs across this thread.
I've had the issue on the factory ROM, jaguar 4.0, and another HTC-business or something ROM, so perhaps this radio update will fix it.
2.71.11 radio installed. When it reset after flashing the ROM, the phone was not working properly (same issue, not receiving calls). I did a soft reset and it is working now, although there hasn't been enough time to see if it will continue working.
However, I would like to note that I am pretty sure of one thing now: When the phone boots up, sometimes the GSM row is missing (only shows the other 3, not all 4). When this happens, the phone cannot receive incoming calls (but can make them). When all four show on boot, the phone works fine. However, it may be that while the phone is on, it becomes disconnected somehow and stops working. I haven't determined that yet, as this is just one thing I am starting to watch patterns in.

There are quite a few other reasons other then Rom(OS) or Radio Rom in not getting good reception or signal quality,it may cud be a Hardware problem, the external antenna might not be getting a proper connection with the internal antenna connectors, did you ever drop your phone,it sometimes happen that while dropping the connectors loose proper connection, secondly, may be the network signal quality is not better in the area where you move, try out in different locations, check if it improves.
BTW,OS (Rom) has got nothing to do with reception/signal quality, its only the Radio Rom (GSM),which improves the signal quality.Changing/flashing Roms (OS) will not effect Radio(GSM) of the phone,it'll only effect if the Rom which you are flashing contains an upgraded version of Radio Rom in it.
Thanks for the response. I knew only some ROMs included an update for the radio. I've managed to get Jaguar 4.0 installed back on the phone and the 2.71.11 radio. It's been working, but then again that was only since last night. We will see if it lasts through the week.
If not, I will attempt to check out the hardware connections for the antenna. I took the phone apart once when I was letting it dry out after an accident, and it isn't too difficult to take apart. Just need to look up where the antenna connection is. I haven't had any major drops, but the phone was purchased used (although it worked perfectly fine for a couple weeks I believe when first purchased as I was testing out various ROMs for it). Anyways, thanks. I will check antenna if this radio update doesn't help.
It still sounds strange though. The signal bars would say the signal was strong, I'd have great reception making calls, but the 'X' would be to the left of those signal bars and I couldn't receive calls at all. It seems that if the radio / antenna was causing a poor reception, it would apply to both incoming and outgoing calls and the reception would correctly be represented by the signal bars. Again, the signal bars are usually strong, even when I cannot receive calls.
Something is screwy, i had TNTv2 6.1 flashed for a couple of weeks with the 2.19.11 radio, seemed to work fine. Just recently its been acting up. Last night even, people were trying to call but my phone never rang, no SMS, pages, or voicemail notifications would go through either. I did notice that my phone dropped signal and displayed an H (prob similar to your X) and then got signal again. After it registered again, still nothing.
This morning i did a soft reset, SMS notifications didn't come through until i sent myself an SMS through email, then they all flooded in....
This whole radio ordeal sucks. I'm on AT&T btw.

[Q] Droid 3 - GSM Module freezes

Hello,
Some time ago I bought a Motorola Droid 3 from Verizon.
As I live in Europe I unlocked it (bought a code on ebay).
I also flashed it with some radio ROM which was for a europe version of the phone.
I restored a stock ROM.
Sometimes when I try to call someone when I hit the Dial button it just starts to 'dial' shows connecting and freezes like that.
All the buttons seem responsive but whatever I click nothing happens
It just stays on connecting I can`t close this I can`t disconnect I can`t do anything other than Power off the phone and then power on again (the Power off is the only button which works normally).
Sometimes when someone tries to call me he/she receives a message that my phone is currently turned off...
I think there`s some problem with the GSM module it just freezes (no data is transfered, no calls can be accepted or no outgoing calls can be made)
When I reboot the phone everything works normally
I tried with many different ROMs but the issue is the same.
I was looking for some other Radio ROMs which I can use but I couldn`t find any.
Does anyone have any Idea what may cause this issue?
what model is listed on label under battery? XT862?
in Menu>Settings>About Phone
which system version is on phone? 5.7.906
which baseband is installed? N_03.18.29P
