Could'nt find it with search, so here is my problem:
- i get free 20mb 3g-traffic each month free
- my phone connects not only with umts but also with GSM/GRPS
how do you disable the use of gsm for a data connection?
thx for an answer
*bump*
nobody got a clue?
You seem to be able to set it to UMTS only - I've just tried it.
Obviously if you lose the 3G / HSDPA signal, you won't get any calls / texts coming through as it won't automatically switch to GPRS.
Menu >> Settings >> Personal tab >> Phone >> Band tab >> Select your GSM / UMTS band (choose one that is your UMTS band only, not UMTS & GSM).
SV
hm...
that should suffice as a temporary solution. i do not want to get calls with my 3g-only rate anyway. even if i think that it's quite complicated to switch between my sim cards with all the extra settings.
so: thanks!!
ok i tried to do that but it didn't work
i only have 2 options:
UMTS(900+2100)+GSM(900+1800)
UMTS(850+1900)+GMS(850+1900)
GSM(900+1800) is common in germany. dunno the umts band :-/

Is there any way to configure the UMTS Band settings on the Trinity / D810? I ask as the ROM provides the following options:
Network Type:
Auto
GSM
WCDMA
GSM/UMTS Band:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
Now ... for the HSDPA Network in Australia for Telstra (Next G), I need the phone to work on the UMTS(850) Band. However, by selecting the option above where the only UMTS(850) is available means that the alternate 3G Band (not HSDPA) of UMTS(2100) is not available, and the GSM Bands in the same selection are not valid for the Australian market.
Couple of queries, and I hope there are ways of configuring the device to achieve this (without getting a new ROM to support it):
When a Band selection is made, what is the order which the device uses the connections? ... i.e. if the selection was GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850), will it look for UMTS or GSM first? If UMTS, which band - 1900 or 850?
When Auto is selected, I am guessing it uses each option in the list until it finds a valid network? This would mean that for Australia, if left on Auto, you would never select HSDPA for Telstra as it would find the 3G UMTS(2100) network first (non-HSDPA).
My assumptions are that if left on Auto, it looks based on list order (which is the network order in the registry). So, for Australia, I need a setting like the following:
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850+2100)
Is it possible to create this Band Selection without a new ROM?

The new Dopod ROM has the same band selections as yours does. I tried changing the selections to manual with bad results. I just leave it on auto now.

I could do that to, but it would mean I don't get HSDPA. I have verified this. The only way to get HSDPA is to set the Band selection to the one with UMTS(850) in it ... this is not ideal, and that's why I posed the question to this forum.
No one??
I am guessing that no one has ever come across this, or needed to do it?
Registry Patch
This Registry patch works for the Hermes. It might work on the Trinity.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\BandType]
"ItemCount"=dword:00000006
"ItemName1"="Auto"
"ItemName2"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)"
"ItemName3"="GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)"
"ItemName4"="UMTS(2100+800)"
"ItemName5"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+850)"
"ItemName6"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)"
"ItemValue1"=dword:00000000
"ItemValue2"=dword:00000001
"ItemValue3"=dword:00000002
"ItemValue4"=dword:00000003
"ItemValue5"=dword:00000004
"ItemValue6"=dword:00000005
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\UMTS\BandSelection]
"Band"=dword:00000005
You really just need to add ItemName5 and 6, and ItemValue5 and 6, and change the ItemCount from 4 to 6 (as you added two options) using your favorite Registry Editor.
Do a soft reboot of the phone. Now you can select the NextG option GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)
3G connection
I drive around the Perth Metro area a lot for work and am finding that if left on Auto the connection is lost quite often mid call. How have you found the 810's management of the bands? And the auto fallback? Is there a way to set the fallback threshold so it drops back if under 2 bar signal strength? At the moment it sits on 1 bar strength and drops out mid call.
I have just got the HTC Mteor but I can't get it to work with GPRS on orange PAYG or Contract. I saw some files on this forum but it won't let me run them on the phone. Can anyone help me set it up please?
sorry to havent answerd your question in other thread...
when this from my post don't works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1244877&postcount=8
just google for the correct settings from your provider!!
or just call them that they say you the settings!!
also my provider has a map on his webpage where i can check what coverage is available in my location!!
also when you see the 3g symbol in top bar you are in a 3g location!
maybe you must have a special contract with your provider to start connections in 3g area?!
just try to set bandwidch to GSM (means only GPRS/EDGE) and test the connection!!
if this works your provider maybe have lock if you haven't a special "3g Contract"
I tried to contact Orange but they didn't have this phone on their list and then they gave me some settings that didn't work?
I don't think this phone works on 3G actually. I know it has GPRS covergae because there is always a letter "G" on the top of the screen. If anyone else has this phone on Orange then can you let me know what setting you are using please.
when your provider supports 3g then your phone have no problems!!!
UMTS is supported by mteor from factory out!!
HSDPA Supports is added with actuell Shipped ROM !!!
when you only have the G icon it means you have only configured (in bandwitch selection gsm) or your network coverage has only GPRS available!!
just check the settings under settings/phone/bandwitch(?!)
there are 2 lines first band: 1. AUto 2. GSM 3. WCDMA (=3g, hsdpa)
2nd is the region... should normaly be on auto...
I just checked the setting that you mentioned and it was set to auto on both options. I tried setting to the 3G and it said that it was not possible to connect when I typed in an internet address on internet explorer.
maybe you have not 3g coverage at your location!! or your contract didn allow 3g connection!! ask your provider!!
when configuring the data connection look to the modem options there you can select different modems .. just try gprs only
Hi All,
I've got a standard HTC branded kaiser.
Where I live I've got access to a 900/1800MHz GSM network (for backup) as well as 2 seperate UMTS networks on 2100 & 850MHz.
I'd really like the phone to use the networks in this order:
850MHz UMTS (Primary carrier)
2100MHz UMTS (Roaming agreement)
900/1800 GSM (Primary carrier)
Unfortunately I can't make it happen ....
* If the phone is set to auto (GSM/UMTS) and also auto band, it locks onto the 2100 UMTS and stays there. UMTS>GSM. This is the case even if I deselect the roaming carrier from network preferences.
* If I lock the phone band to GSM(900/1800)+UMTS(2100) it behaves the same as above.
* If I lock the phone band to GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850) it then will lock onto the correct 1st choice, but it won't fallback to GSM
So how can I make this work? Ideally I need a band option like GSM(900/1800)+UMTS(850/2100), but it just isn't gonna happen.
Even though this is a quad band GSM and triple band UMTS phone I'm forced to choose a combination that isn't optimal?
Any ideas?
Hello, my title resume my question :how to force GPRS instead of EDge or 3G ?
I've an old offer orange called Orange Sans limite wich have to be used on the GPRS settings..
Or, on the diamond as if i disable the 3G , the edge still be here..
I must have to stay on Gprs simple.
Anyone could have some solution?
I've already try to tweak something with schaps configuration but nothing good
Thanks a lot for your help!
I believe you can set this by clicking => start => settings => personal => telephone => band
I don't know if these are the correct names because i have a dutch phone..
Yes that's the trick i used to do to : band : GSm
But like this there is still edge and not GPRS icon and connection
GPRS Force

On Band tab
Select your network type: GSM
Select your GSM/UMTS band: UTMS(900+2100)+GSM(900+1800)
Press OK .. [it may end existing data connection Press Ok to that as well]
This is what i do since i've ppc ...
Exept that i've GSM 900 +1800 and Umts 2100
But stil edge connections and not GPRS
Force use of plain GPRS instead of EDGE
See also here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-337798.html for this question without an answer.
A good reason for doing this is that on many EDGE networks is if data is actively being transferred many networks will drop incoming calls (caller gets busy/voicemail) which I think is due to a lack of available free timeslots to notify the phone of a incoming call (all slots filled with your data and your phone stops monitoring a control channel I think. Some, but not many edge networks, can tell the phone about the incoming call via the data slots. With plain old GRPS this problem does not occur.
If when you are not using it your phone could use plain old GPRS to sync email, download RSS feeds etc, then there's zero chance of missing an incoming call.
Unfortunately I haven't found any way to do this.
hi guys,
i've googled a bit but didnt find what i was looking for.... i've been using an iphone for quite a while before switching to the diamond2 - on my iphone i was able to deactivate 3g/hsdpa and only use edge, which improved battery life by one third. is this possible with the diamond2 as well?
thanks in advance.
Yes, telephone keypad [dialer], menĂ¹, option, Band and you can choose GSM or WCDMA
i live in austria and as far as i'm informed there is only gsm, no wcdma? or do you mean to only select gsm, not umts networks? if so, i don't think that's possible, because i can only choose:
gsm (900+1800) + umts (900+2100)
gsm (1900+850) + umts (1900+850)
umts(2100+800)
tia
there s 2 drop down lists - choose the first - it should have a choice of auto / gsm / utms - the second drop down contains the frequency - leave this on auto
There is a very nice app that allows you to enable or disable 3G in the Comm-Manager
