Hello,
Is it possible to run the camera in the background and record video and turn off the screen while the video is recording?
Or does somebody know an application which can do it?
Thanks
The problem is that when you press the power button it suspends device and doesn't just turn off the screen. There are utilities that can just turn off the screen (which also "locks" the device). I use WKtasks function>Backlight off from ok-button long press and AEBPlus actions screen to do that
Thanks for the tip. I've tried these 2 applications, but they both don't turn off the display when recording. I have also tried to use CoolCamera, but it does'nt work.
I would love to know a solution for this also i use the Qik app and would love if it would run with the screen toggled off or even better in the background.

We all know about the issues with the camera - especially in dark areas, it simply jerks and blurs and you cant see what is happening on screen.
Here is a workaround that i have found which enables fluid motion on the lcd for taking photos and videos on my Tytn 2 (Stock rom).
Steps:
1) Press the camera button to launch the camera application.
2) When it loads up and is on screen, press the power button to turn off the display.
3) Wait 15 seconds.
4) Press the power button to turn on the display.
5) The camera/video recording should be smooth, even in dark areas.
This works for me every time. However sometimes it is shortlived (about a minute). As soon as you exit the camera application you will have to perform the above steps again.
I have recorded a 12 minute video in a dark area and it was very smooth. I have tested with HTC camera v4.0.8 and v5.0.4.2915.00 available here http://rs331.rapidshare.com/files/85747451/Nadavi_HTC_Camera_5_0_4_2915_00.cab

Apologies for the dupe.
When turning off the screen (on my AT&T Tilt), the programs stop running. Active sync disconnects, Wi-Fi disconnects, voice recorder pauses, and etc. Does anyone know if there is a setting on the phone that will let these programs run in the background with the screen off? Or a configuration tool (3rd party software) that can do this?
To clarify further, all the programs run okay when the screen is dimmed (backlight off). The problem is when I press the "Power" button (quickly) to shut the screen off (but not turning off the phone completely, I can still get calls, but all the buttons are locked except power button, but thats okay). When I do that (to save power), the problem is the Wi-Fi disconnects, Active Sync disconnects, and the voice recorder pauses recording. Then everything resumes again when I turn the screen back on. On my laptop when I am organizing or reading files, favorites, music, videos, etc. and transferring files back and forth it runs the laptop battery down because the screen has to be partially on (you can still see the time even though it is dimmed out, and the phone gets very hot too after a while like this, I know there is a way to shut off charging, but I still want to charge and work with the files on the phone with my laptop, but I don't need the phone's screen to be on). So it would be nice if Active Sync kept working with the screen off (rather than just dimmed out).
The Wi-Fi disconnects too when the screen is shut off, which is okay unless you are doing the same work organizing/ transferring files over a wireless link with a LAN network (especially if you left your data cord elsewhere). I know I could just have it dim and not turn the screen off, but it still wastes allot of power even with a dim screen.
Also I use the voice recorder for dictation, meetings, and long conferences, so the battery runs down as long as it is recording (If I tap the power button (to turn off the screen) it pauses the recording, when I tap it again and the screen turns back on it resumes recording). Perhaps there is a 3rd party voice recorder application that keeps running regardless of the display screen being turned on or off (but I have not been able to find one, thats why I think there may be a setting I am missing to allow programs to run in the background even if the screen is off).
this is a BIG miss in WM6. it was posible in WM5.
we also talk about this inability to turn only the backlight off in WM6,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448355, and we just hope HTC or Microsoft will help us,
unfortunately it seems that untill now noone have found a solution for this
When I launch the camera, the screen must turn on.
When I press the power off function, the screen is truned off but I can't take a photo.
Any software to soft this problem?
Thank you!
WKtasks function>Backlight off from ok-button long press and AEBPlus actions screen to do that.
CoolCamera
I've tried these 2 applications, but they both don't turn off the display when recording or shooting.
Out of curiosity, why would you want the screen off anyway? Surely that means you'd have no idea what you're taking a picture of?
In fact, I am a detector. I always need to spy on someone and take photo secretly.
Is it possible to minimize camera soft on xperia, and continue to record?
Or is it possible to at least turn off display while recording is in progress? (power button which according to manual should turn off display, turns off recording too).
Maybe there is some 3rd party soft that allows you to do this?
TIA Marek.
another "spycam"?
Something like that.
But also thing to use, when you want to record something really long. My card is enough large to fit almost 10h video there. When screen is on, battery would be dead in less then half of this time, and phone may get pretty warm when back-light is on for such a long time.
hey there
somebody know an app to turn off the display?
not to lock the device, just to turn off the screen.
i want to watch videos on my tv over hdmi and there´s no need for the display to stay on while watching.
thanks in advance
You can try changing the security settings to when you press the turnoff/on button it won't lock the screen... It's precisely:
Settings-Location & Security-Configure lock screen-Off
Maybe it'll make works as it says it "NEVER lock the screen" it's a good option I think
thanks for your answer
unfortunately thats not what i´m looking for. even if there´s no screen lock defined the device will go into a locked state if power button is pressed.
try to run a video on youtube and press power.
i cant imagine that its so odd to just turn off the display itself or that it whould be complicated to have an app for that.
am i the only one who uses android as a media player for a tv?
Ever tried androidwebkey? it's an app wich let you control your phone/tablet from your pc (or any other device with an internet browser). You can launch/close apps, acces terminal and stuff. But you can also adjust your brightness, even to zero (totally off). Try it out!
I imagine you could use Tasker to turn off the screen automatically whenever you plug the hdmi cord in.
